Quote:I just have to nitpick this, as I'm pretty sure my Spiritual's +Healing is boosting my Rebirth destiny. I haven't expressly tested it, but it sure seems bigger than when I use a different one.I'm using the Musculature Core Paragon for my Claws/SR Scrapper. I've never tested what my DPS is without it, or any other incarnate power for that matter, so I can't say how much it adds to my attacks. (Reactive Interface probably does more.) I believe the Tier 4 Spiritual allows for triple stacking Follow Up supposedly, I may be mistaken though. I can say that the Musculature Alpha Slot does add to your Judgement damage and Lore pets damage, whereas Spiritual adds nothing to your other incarnate powers.

Quote:This made me laugh, and I salute you for it sir.OP: "Hey, I looked outside and the sky looks blue. Is it really as blue as it looks?"
Bunch of Posters: "Well, that depends on a lot of things. It's generally black at night. Clouds can give it shades of gray. At sunset or sunrise, it might take on beautiful oranges, yellows, purples, and other colors. It's brown during a dust storm or sand storm. And in a sense, the sky is actually transparent, though that may not make much difference for the purpose of this discussion."
mauk2: "The sky is blue. This is simple fact."
Bunch of Posters: "Have you looked outside at night? Does that look blue to you?"
mauk2: "Since when does 'color' mean 'only at night'? Reading comprehension much?"
Bunch of Posters: "Seriously? WE'RE the ones with the reading comprehension problem? <reiterate what has been said>"
mauk2: "Yes, seriously. Just because this forum has some ridiculous obsession with NIGHT NIGHT NIGHT does not mean that night is the only time you can look up at the sky. You can say the sky ain't blue all you want: It still is."
Somewhat on-topic, I have a question to pose regarding the virtues of Brutes vs Scrappers.
I have a character concept that I've been itching to do, Kinetic Melee/Dark Armor. I've tried this as both a Brute and a Scrapper, but I'm not sure which works better.
I can't always afford to keep the "Go! Go! Go!" mentality that works best for Fury generation, and the playstyle of a Scrapper usually works better. Conversely, the damage aura and Dark Regeneration seem much more impressive on the brute, I imagine because of the taunt aura and the increased health cap, respectively.
I don't need a super, by-the-numbers comparison, but just a general impression. Would there be a noticeable difference with these powersets between the two Archetypes? If so, what is it?
Thanks in advance! -
Thank you! This build is exactly what I was looking for. Now I now how to respec once I hit 47 and can use level 50 enhancements.

I hate to be egotistical and bump my own thread, but my scrapper is getting ever closer to 50 and I'd like some feedback on these builds by someone with much more building experience than I. Anyone? I'll give you a virtual cookie...
Edit: Adding data chunks since I just now figured out how to work Mids'. Sorry everyone!

I did that on my SS/Elec brute, and that worked out fine since he was already red-themed, but my Scrapper doesn't have any red in his costume or his powers. I guess I can change his powers to red before I commit, that's cheaper (and easier) than a respec.
-
Quote:Yeah, I noticed that Eradication has some pretty tasty bonuses. In my experience, the last 5-10% to the soft cap is the toughest to get. If you're already sitting at 39% to S/L with a build, I would call that good enough and move on to E/N defense. (I focus on E/N first, but that's just personal preference)
Eradication is an AWESOME set if you're slotting a Willpower character. It gives you more max end, 3.13% E/N defense, and 2.25% Max HP (the largest HP bonus found outside a purple set). I actually like Eradication better than Obliteration for most applications, but again, that's personal preference.
Quote:My reason for shooting for E/N defense first is because of the end drain associated with electricity attacks. The first 3 TFs feature a LOT of electricity attacks (Clocks, tons of Clocks, and Freakshow respectively), and it really sucks getting tagged with a bunch of them and having your toggles drop because you've been spamming attacks. You'll continue to fight Freashow on and off for your entire career, and if you decide to switch sides....well, then you have Mu to deal with.
So, I consider Energy defense slightly more important than S/L for a Willpower. Don't ignore S/L completely, but I've found that 35% or so to S/L is enough for a large percentage of the game (can always pop a Luck if you run into a bad situation).
Also, aside from the end drain, pure electricity attacks will stand a good chance of outright killing you as well if enough of them are getting through. You resist probably 50% of Smashing and Lethal attacks, but it is doubtful your Energy resistance is above 10%. There's also the added (and annoying) fact that a significant percentage of Electricity wielders are reluctant to close to melee and fuel RttC for you (Mu Strikers, I'm looking at YOU!). Mu, some Freakshow, and Cabal will all hover outside melee range and continually nail you with pure energy attacks, so if your defense to them isn't very high, it's gonna suck.
Quote:For the record, I'm not saying you HAVE to build anything the way I'm suggesting. I'm just explaining my reasons for why *I* build my Willpower characters this way.
Oh, one more reason: E/N defense is usually cheaper than S/L if you're looking to buy it on the market. -
So, I have an Elec/SR scrapper that just hit 46 (and is on his way to 47 as I type this up). My problem is this: I would like to go Mu for Mu Bolts (for Elec's admittedly weak ST damage) and Ball Lightning (for even more AoE goodness), but my detail-oriented mind has serious trouble reconciling the red lightning with the rest of his powers having NO red lightning. Would it really be worth sucking up the color difference?
I also have two builds to critique, if anyone's feeling so bold. Just as a guideline, I can afford the cheaper Hami-O's/LotG uniques, but I can't even start to afford the PvP uniques or purple sets.
The first has the Mu PPP and still softcapped to M/R/A:

Thanks in advance for any critique/feedback! These are my first real attempts at serious builds, so I probably screwed up somewhere...
Edit: I can't get the Incarnate stuff to work for some reason, but I was going to go with Cardiac to address the end problems he's currently having. -
Quote:This is what really gets me. I'm obviously not a programmer, nor do I actually know the amount of effort a change like this would take, but it SEEMS like this would be an easy fix. I know I'm necro'ing this thread, but my Elec/SR scrapper is having to take Leadership powers and a few other things, because A) there is no electric APP for scrappers and B) the red Mu lightning does NOT work with his powers. So I was mucking about with the Incarnate Power Customization last night and it got me thinking. Incarnate power customization works by letting you recolor ALL of the Judgement and Destiny powers regardless of which ones you have. It seems to me that that would be a practical solution for at least some of the pool customization issues (such as what happens with dual builds). Simply allow a character to set customization for all power pools and all epic pools for their AT regardless of which ones they are actually using.
I know I could suck it up and just use the Mu lightning as-is, but it doesn't fit his character at all thematically... -
Quote:I did slot both Mind Over Body and Tough so the Resistance value is at the ED cap. So you would recommend focusing on the E/N softcap over the S/L? I don't want to get ripped to shreds by mobs outside of the iTrials because I'm not S/L softcapped. You want everything except Resurgence. Strength of Will can be skipped, but I like to take it for a place to slot a Steadfast Protection Res/Def without having to add a slot to something else.
Willpower is a set that gets stronger the more of it's powers you add. Very much a case of the whole being greater than the sum of it's parts.
Also, yiou should be just fine at 39% S/L defense. If you slotted Mind Over Body and Tough you resist S/L damage pretty well, so the defense isn't as important as the E/N defense (which you get almost no resistance to at all) -
I have a Spines/Willpower scrapper in her thirties that's fairly fun to play on teams, with all the AoE damage. The problem is when I open mids to try and make a build, and realize that I have no idea what I'm doing! I've never played a /Willpower this high, so I don't know which powers from the secondary I should/shouldn't take.
Is there any way someone could give me a "starter" build, or at least some tips to build in mids? I'd like to softcap her to S/L (E/N should be a breeze compared to some secondaries because of Hightened Senses), but I can only get her to 39.2% S/L defense, including the Steadfast 3% global.
Is the S/L softcap even possible and/or feasible for a /Willpower? I can afford Hami-O's and LotG uniques/sets, but the expensive PvP IO's or purple sets are way out of my price range for a long time.
I can upload my build that I've been working on if people want, but I'm pretty sure it's... bad. Really, really bad.
Thanks for any help!
Edit to add: I don't want any APP/PPP except Body Mastery for theme and character reasons. Yes, I'm a nerd. -
Quote:I feel I really must point out that the self-rez has a magnitude thirty stun in it.I'm simply not a fan of self rez powers. IMHO, they are situational at best, and easily replaced by an awaken. If you can't think of another power worth taking, it can make for an IO mule, but I never take the power. I can usually find something to take that will help keep me for face planting in the first place.
THIRTY.
It's gimmicky, some might say, but I don't know of much safe AV/GMs that can't get stunned by it. -
I wish to direct anyone wanting to use CoH from inside Steam, while still using the NCSoft Launcher, to this thread. I just followed the steps, and now I can use the Steam community and all its bells and whistles from inside CoH.

Cannot thank you enough for this! I've been looking for a way to do this for months, it worked perfectly. Giving this a much-deserved bump.

My Bane is named Portiana (derived from the Portia genus of spiders).

Hey everyone, I'm kind of stuck. I'm doing my first real planned build in Mids for my SS/Elec brute, and I need someone more experienced with builds to look at it and see if they can give me a hand. I can't get to the S/L softcap, and I've optimized it as far as I'm able.
I don't have a ton of money, which is why there's no super expensive uniques, but I should have enough to afford the more expensive sets.
And if I'm way off left base and it's not possible/feasible to softcap S/L on an /Elec, well, let me know that too.
