One question though.

Does this mean I'm losing my driver?

Not at all! Dad's driving his own car, and actually had initially not planned to come due to not wanting to "step on my toes" ::rolls eyes grinning:: When I told him quite bluntly that it would be *awesome* if he could come, he promptly bought his ticket. hehe. So even though he'll be there, and I'll be spending time with him, he'll have his own transportation, and I'll still be driving.

...

Which reminds me to brush up on the area map so that in case of GPS failure, I know where we are. hehehe...
2. ::clears throat, almost giggling with glee::

I am proud to announce that my Dad (@Mortus Amicus) will be joining us for Dinner and the Con! :: squeals:: He's actually *driving* out from Ohio on his own starting a week beforehand. He's been playing for a few months now, and was really interested in coming and meeting people from the game to make some new friends.

Depending on how clean we get his car before his drive (heh...) he might have some room to drive people around as well. I'll get some clarification on that in the upcoming weeks.

So count one more on the list Red!
3. I tried posting in the PVP area of the forums with hope that since it's the forums that the PVPers frequent, that on a whim one of them might actually answer a kinda weird question I had, dealing with the Swiss Draw tournament rules.

I was part of a group on Justice the other night trying to get the badge, and after reading the rules both in-game, and on the wiki, we thought we understood it fairly well.

Not the case in the LEAST.

Mind you, we were trying to get certain people to win for a badge, but, you would think that would help you understand the rules... how to win a competition for which you've entered. The rules are overall downright confusing, and there doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason for the winning or loosing of a match. The rules state:

Quote:
Swiss Draw Tournament - This new arena match type is a two-phase tournament that returns you to the Battle Terminal between matches. During the first phase, each player who enters this tournament will square off against another player. Once a 'Top 8' has been determined, the tournament enters its second phase. The second phase is a single elimination style tournament where only the 'Top 8' can continue. Those who do not qualify are removed from the tournament. The single elimination tournament continues until the last player is standing and that player is declared the winner.
also tagged in the wiki:

Quote:
An 8 to 64 player tournament that will have players duking it out 1 vs 1 until the top 8 combatants are chosen. After this point there will be three rounds of single elimination to determine the winner of the tournament.
Now, we had people that would lose twice, then be taken to the final round, some that would win one, lose one, and be dropped, or the opposite, and the same outcome. It didn't seem to matter on arena rank, points, or kills. There was no pattern, and no explanation.

Can *someone* pleasepleasepleaseplease either help, or can we please get a better write-up on how to win this, or how it works? Because right now, I can only guess that it's broken or borked somehow, with no easy fix.

Thanks!
4. Now, normally I wouldn't come into the PVP area of the forum. Not usually my thing--but I'm trying to be more open and learn more about this area of the game. Seriously, I am. Usually no interest in pvp, but I'm at least mildly curious about it, and have been, well, "dabbling" in it for the past couple of weeks.

Yes, mainly for badging purposes, but, in all honesty, I'm REALLY curious about this side of the game, and to see if it's something that I might want to do every once in a while.

That being said, last night a fairly large group gathered on Justice to see about getting the swiss draw win badge for several people. What ended up was a bunch of badgers trying to get a pvp badge that seemed to have no direction.

The rules for the Swiss Draw match are deceptively simple. One big match, then smaller ones to determine a winner. Through the course of what I think became *Seven hours* we could figure out no rhyme or reason for the winning and losing of the matches. There is nothing in the description of the Swiss Draw match that clearly states what is needed to win the whole thing, or to win even a portion of it. I came to the forums thinking to look at the guides and try and figure it out--but in the Guide to Guides, all the links are broken from the forum move. I'm stuck.

I'd really like to figure this out. Not just for the badge (which would be nice to have, since I left early and didn't get to participate), but for the clarity of a match that seems simple, but is actually probably one of the most convoluted aspects of the game I have seen yet. I'd like to start small with PVP personally, because jumping into a zone or match with a ton of vet. pvp players to me seems pointless and fruitless and utterly demoralizing and not at all fun. However, smaller, one on one matches, 2 vs 2 matches and then maybe more free-for-all styles can start coming after that. The arena badges and the PVP zone badges may seem like a bother (and trust me, I've thought that many a time), but I'm really curious about this swiss draw match now and if it's completely borked to all heck an back right now, or if there is some unknown way that it determines victors and losers.

Please. I guess for *everyone* could someone answer this for me? Or explain a bit clearer than what the wiki says for it? (which is exactly what the "help" in the arena tells you)
5. That looks fabulous! ^_^ And yes, making sure it comes apart easily is a wonderful thing as well. I have a 6'x6' monster that I've moved 3 times now that I'm *praying* stays together when I put it where I want it next. I can't fit it here at my parent's place, so it's sitting in storage.

I wish I had the wood-working skills to do something like that... it looks wonderful!
6. You would have to get this going on a night I'm working... But if you guys are still at it around 10pm, if I could shoulder my way in, I would love to help out and get the badge(s))
7. I actually was the one to tell teh Meg to get his tail over to the forums and respond. I'm glad he listened. heh.

I hope that I'll have my Designated Driver from last year, Karoiseka, driving again this year, even though I'll be sober. This would likely mean The Meg, Arwen and Phantom would be with me as well, although I haven't had a chance to talk to any of them about it.

I'll post back later after talking to them about ride arrangements.

I would be more than happy to drive around again this year! ^_^ Though I might, *might* like a drop off at one point to a relative... but I'll figure that out when I get ahold of said Uncle... >.>

I'll also have a better idea of the area, since I *know* I'll be there this year, I'm planning on lookin' at some maps before I head out. Direction sense might be good, but I like being prepared... even WITH a GPS.
9. I re-arranged some things and said "screw it".

Plane ticket is BOUGHT. Count me in for dinner! ^_^

(edited to answer questions)

1) You coming? YUP!
1a) If yes, banquet menu ok? I didn't look at it, but I'm sure it will be. ^_^
1a1) If yes, which banquet items appeal? ::goes to look:: I do like Chicken Parm.... >.>
1a2) If no, what do you propose we do instead?
1b) If no, are you weenie-ing out because you THINK you can't afford it? I know I can't, but I'm going to make it work!
1b1) Does the wording of my question above change your answer? Nope!
1b2) If no, what the heck is wrong with you? >.>
2) Anything we MUST have (even if not on the banquet menu)? Can't think of anything!
(I figure we might have some leeway in this regard as omissions cost the same as some included items.)
3) Preferred dining date/time? My planned default is Friday Oct 23, 5:30pm which will hopefully allow us to dine without rushing to get to whatever Niv might be putting together on Friday Sounds good to me!! ^_^

Ummm.. *^_^*

hehe. Anyways, I've been trying to work game back into teh schedule as well now that I have a little more time. Moving back in with Mom last week should help with some things, so here's hoping for a little more game-time in the near future!
11. *IF* I can end up going, do to some oversight somehow, somewhere, if I can get the money for the plane ticket together before I have to leave instead of 2 weeks after (which is what it's looking like, but then again, there's always the credit card I was trying not to touch...) then I'll be there as well. So please add me into the total, but, again, I probably won't have a definate until end of Sept. at the earliest.

I miss all this. blech, need to get resettled... (moved back in with mom)
12. You WOULD have to do this on a day I'm working when I can't make it... or at least I don't think I can... or maybe I"ll be insane and try and make it anyways... I dunno yet.

Gratz Noodle

Gratz Noodle! ^_^ And welcome to James! ^_^
14. Hehehe... TJ, that's because I actually figured out where I was going anyways.

And you don't suck TA! ::huggles:: ty all for the warm wishes! I'm having a great b-day week, having this whole week off work!
15. Thanks everyone for the b-day wishes! I did have a great day besides some early rain! ^_^

16. Keep in touch... Justice will definitely miss you two...
17. Happy B-day GhostFalcon! ^_^
18. Desi, I'll pass on the word that you're trying to get ahold of him. I think he's on mini-hiatus while dealing with some stuff.
19. You know I'd be there if I could, Braxx. But I'll just be comin' back from a week and 1/2 off, so I can't really swing it.

SNOW DAY!

It's 1 degree out right now with a windchill of -17 here in central Ohio... >.< I'm wondering if my car is going to start for me to get things done this morning...

However, they are calling for a couple inches of snow tomorrow, so, here's hoping for a White Christmas! ^_^
21. Good luck with everything Lighthouse!

I already told you what I thought of it...

Tis amazing!!! Someday I'll scrap together something that you might want for a trade...
24. I suppose I'll throw my hand in, though I think really only one (and occasionally two) of the people on this list read the forums...

Megumi Yamato is first on my list for no other reason than being the person who got me into the game. ((well, and the people who initially gave me the CoH collector's box for free)). I logged into Justice knowing that he would be there, though, at the time he was quite busy w/ work and wasn't really on when I was. I still love the fact that we play on the same server, and it's yet another great connection that we have. He's given me some great insight on my character creation, and some goals to try and reach. I think just running around w/ Meg an Karo on occasion is one of my fav things to do in-game.

Salud/Mr. Mack/Annealer is the first one to truly take me under their wing. With Karo (my first toon ever) at lvl 18, I had *no clue* about enhances... and was just kinda randomly slotting what I was getting dropped, and not even selling off what was extra. He asked me why my dmg numbers were so low, and then asked if I had my DOs slotted yet. "Dos? What are those?" Handing me a lump of Influ, he very calmly described what I needed to do with enhances. An invite into the Clan of the Mad Catters, and over a year and 1/2 later, Salud is still one of my best in-game friends, and one I got to go visit last fall.

Trinitee is the leader of the Catters, and someone else who has been a great influence on me in the past year and 1/2. And that's not just because she randomly happens to live 15 miles from me! The three of us (Mr. Mack, Trin, Karo) made it to 50 right around the same time, and it was awesome to have such a great friend through all of it. If I need someone to go talk to, I know I can always just drive down to her house an chat. (it doesn't hurt that her kids adore me too!)

Ueki Tylor is my fiancee. If I don't mention him I'll probably get beaten. But I dragged *him* into the game.

Miss Kitty Hellfire and all her other names. Was actually the first person to send me a tell. hehe. Still on my global 21 months later, and coalitioned to the Catters, my second toon belonged to the Asguard SG she runs. She saw me running around Atlas like a loon, sent me a tell, and after I ran off, sent me another! lol I paused after she gave chase, and got me started w/ 10k influ. I had never seen such a fortune!

Meg's Friends who have also put me on their global, I'm also grateful to. (Artemis, Arwen, Mekk, Lornac) You've all been so nice to me, and it's always a pleasure to team with all of you.

I know I've probably forgotten a couple of people, but that's the main gist of it.
