Quote:We should be able to squeeze you inI would like to attend, and if you would like I'll pop in the day before and check things are going ok with the cybercafe (as Bham is my hometown. Last time I went in and they actually couldn't get CoH working and so my assistance got CoH functioning on all machines ready for the meetup
).
I can bring my laptop, and also as it's my hometown there are many places I can recommend to eat, drink and have fun
Is there space for me?
I think the main thing will be making sure all the computers have the NCSoft Launcher sorted out on them, or the shortcut thing that uses the launcher... and to make sure all the games are up-to-date with patches. Also, if you could check that there's maybe enough space in the back room for a few... people and a couple of fold up tables or something, that would be really cool too
I'm hoping to travel down either on the Thursday or the Friday, so will try and pop by the cafe at some point too just to say "Hi" and make sure everything is okay.
I used to live in Birmingham a few years ago, although a lot has changed since then. Before I got stuck in the wheelchair I used to regularly go to Costa's and the Torriador pub (when it was still a goth/rock hang out). I'm thinking that a meal in Wetherspoons might be an idea at some point too. -

Quote:From looking at the time zones on my 'puter clock:I know there is an hours time difference between the UK and mainland EU but what is the time difference between UK/EU and the various time zones in NA. Im not very good as figuring that type of thing out!!
Pacific Time is -8 hours behind UK time (GMT)
Mountain Time -7 hours behind UK time
Central Time (US & Canada) -6 hours behind UK time
Eastern Time (US & Canada)-5 hours behind UK time
Atlantic Time -4 hours behind UK time
UK - GMT 0
Amsterdam / Berlin / Rome / Stockholm / Vienna +1 hour ahead of UK time
Helsinki +2 hours ahead of UK time...
I think? -
I vaguely remember seeing one when I went to visit a friend up there... a quick search on the interweb gave me
L 2 K Internet Gaming Cafe
32 Princess St, Manchester M1 4LB
They don't appear to have CoX on the list, but I'm sure if you gave them a call they'd put it on one of their machines for you -

This is where we find that all the good names have already been taken on the US servers :P
-
Congratulations
Welcome to the world young super hero/villain
Hope you're all doing well -
Quote:Well, I could rename it that, but the folks coming to the meet aren't really local, half don't even play on the same servers or team with each other as far as I'm awareThis is more like an SG meet not a EU Players Meet. You should rename this the local UK Players meet.
Honestly, you might be better off meeting in a Marriott or something. This event will blow that poor local cybercafe out of the water.Plus it's open to anyone from the EU community that would like come along.
As for hosting it at a Marriott or other hotel we'd have a teeny bit of a problem holding the in-game costume competitions, the all night TF's and other things that are being planned for this years event.
The cybercafe isn't actually local to me at all, but Birmingham is a nice central location for people to be able to get to with public transport/airport and motorways. They managed fine with us last yearThey even said we can go back this year lol.
It's a pity that Omega Sektor shut down, as that place would have been ideal - loads of space and literally just around the corner from GlobalGaming, more computers etc, but there just aren't that many cybercafe's left it seems, well not in such a central location. I did look at running the event at another gaming place in the Birmingham area, but it's a little out of the way and more expensive whereas this place is right in the city centre with all the shops, cafe's, hotels and transport links. There are probably a few places down in London, but I really can't travel that far due to my disability.
Btw, I think there's a difference in terms between 'local' US and 'local' EU... local for us is the same town, or a short bus/car journey to somewhere less than an hour away. -

Quote:Haven't seen you in game for a while oh Seffs of the squeaks and chittersHmm... Unlikely I can wrangle my computer to Brum. >.< OTOH, I can always turn up anyway, I guess.
The last one was a blast, so if I can turn up I'm liable to stick around for both days. Hotels? Nah, just forget sleep and game more. =4
Also, this means I'll have to get in game now and then, doesn't it?
Depending on the 'maybes' that turn up there should be enough computers to go around too(okay, maybe one or two folks sharing but we'll see!)

Just out of curiosity, did you do know there's been Gladiators going on for quite some time? http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=246382
They also stuck last years season up to watch here -
Quote:There's not really that much room in the actual place itself, but there's plenty of pubs/restaurants just around the corner. There's also fast food places for those that like chatting over a burger instead lol, or assorted coffee shops for the die hard caffeine addictSmall question since i've NEVER been to an event like this. When we arent at the computers is there an area to just relax and chat to everybody?
Sorry if it seems obvious but i really have no idea what to expect in that scenario. With it being in Internet Cafe they don't mind you snacking and drinking by the computers either, so long as you don't make too much of a mess
Last year people tended to wander around and chat to other people at the computers, then head out en mass to grab food from one of the nearby places, or Tesco's. -
What kind of things would people like to see run at this years event?
Last year we had some in-game costume competitions and such. So we could do another one of those, possibly with a theme.
This year I was thinking we could maybe do a prize for the person that turns up in the best costume (or that dares show up in costume), although in saying that I know a lot of guys in-game who play girls.... *shudder*
Possibility of an all night TF event, if someone would like to run one? I know a few people have expressed a wish to do some kind of all-night event. (no +4 x8 teams)
Ideas are welcome!I want everyone to have a good time
-
Why have I got visions of everyone doing the synchronised Dante dance this year... like some bizarre episode of Fame or something
-
Eeeep! That's all 15 computers taken (not taking in to consideration the 'maybe attending' folks)...
I don't want to turn anyone away that would like to come along, but the only thing I can think of is if some folks would be willing to share computers, or take turns, say someone has a computer for the morning, another the afternoon?
Would that be acceptable? Or shall I say that folks can only now attend if they bring their own laptops? -

Hi everyone
As requested by all those that attended last year, and for those that couldn't make it, I've organised another EU Player Meet in Birmingham for this year.
Date: Saturday 3rd September and Sunday 4th September 2011
Location: The Net Adventure Cyber Cafe which incorporates GlobalGaming Arena.
Prices: Half day pass - 10am till 5pm / 5pm - midnight - £7
All day - 10 am till midnight - £12
All night - midnight till 10am - £12
They are situated just around the corner from where Omega Sektor used to be. There's a map HERE, and they have off street car parking just opposite in the multi-storey carpark.
GGA only has 15 computers but they have space for a further 8 computers in the main room, and another room which can also accommodate 8 more. So, if any of you would prefer to take your own computers they don't mind. I know that I'll be taking my laptop again.
Panicking already here. Let me know if you'd like to come along this year, and which days if you'll only be attending on the one thanks, and also if you'd like to bring your own computer/laptop please.
Looking forward to seeing you all again.
Kallandra (I must be crazy to be doing this again LOL)
More details as and when I get them. -
Quote:*looks shifty*I went to Memorabilia just in order to visit the CoH stand, and I'd probably go again if Paragon/NCSoft were there.
The player meet in Birmingham was awesome, and the support for it from the EU marketing people was very much appreciated. I'd definitely sign up for another of those. -

Quote:There are 2 Villain-side missions that unlock the Ouroboros Portal, one being the Echo Down the Aeons from Marshall Brass (lvl 15-19) and the Time After Time arc from your Patron (lvl 45-50)Yeah, I just don't remember any of the others. Hero-side has something like three or four arcs that unlock it, while villain-side only has one, and it's a 15-20 arc.
Personally, I feel that Ouroboros deserves a contact somewhere who you can do a mission for to snag a portal, maybe a level 50 contact which is past the point where either side can get a portal via non-PvP-zone means.
There are loads of ways to get the portal! -
I had this happen when I logged in last night on a toon I'd not played in 200 days or so. I logged in to the RWZ to find all my trays completely empty except for the 2 presents from the Winter Event.
I decided to try logging in on a few of my other toons to see what happened:
WS (Vigilante) - Union - 19 days offline - Zoned in to Talos = Fine
Stalker (Villain) - Union - 94 days offline - Zoned in to Pocket D = All Trays Cleared except for 2 presents
Brute (Villain) - Union - 17 days offline - Zoned in to Pocket D = Fine
Mastermind (Villain) - Union -112 days offline - Zoned in to Cap au Diable = Fine
Corruptor (Villain) - Union - 221 days offline - Zoned in to Pocket D = All Trays Cleared except for 2 presents
Tanker (Hero) - Union - 54 days offline - Zoned in to Ouroboros = Fine then Zoned to Atlas then to RWZ = Also fine -
I actually know people who speak like that in real life *shudders*

Does it really matter if sie and hir aren't in everyday use? Can we please stop being pedantic
I personally feel that enough discussion has been had over the OP using these terms.
As to the other matter of liking comic books? I never really got in to them, but I always loved watching superhero/supervillain cartoons when I was younger. Not just Superman, Batman et al, but Dangermouse, Hong Kong Phooey and Battle of the Planets. I think those are what got me in to the super hero genre. -
Quote:Well, at 3 months you can get a nice Kilt costume piece as a Veteran Reward. If you really want to make a character that could possibly be viewed as a monstrous mountain of a woman you could do something like this with the Huge body type.
After all those complaints, I think I should also list some of the things that I think CoX does right. Top of the list, absolute bloody first, is flying. The sense of flying in CoX is utterly thrilling and feels exactly the way it does in dreams. Sometimes I just fly around the skyscrapers in Steel Canyon and feel mellow. I think if the game consisted of nothing but that, I might still pay money to play it. Also on the list of top things (which is odd, since it's also on my list of complaints) is the costume system. I'd really like to see more body types (where are the Blobs, where are the Gigantas, where are the Doll Mans, where are the She-Hulks?), vehicles, a lot more hats, better conforming for chest props, and, and, and... but I suspect I could (and would) do that no matter how many options that gave. The variety is pretty impressive, and I'm sorely tempted to purchase some of those expansion packs.

Who cares about furries! I've always wanted to make toons like some of my old favourite cartoon characters! Who says animals can't be super heroes or super villains?
For instance:
Secret Squirrel
Morocco Mole
Danger Mouse
Penfold
Stiletto
Nero
Baron Greenback
Count Duckula
Scooby Doo
Hong Kong Phooey
