And if someone PAID you to do a piece? Then you damn well BETTER listen to what people have to say... or do you want to be known as someone who charges fees for work that could be better?
Because really, if you're going to roll with the pros and charge for your work, you better make sure that you're as good of an artist as you can be...
In short, if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Gotta' ask man... do you ever do commissions? -
I'm shocked no one has mentioned my easter egg in this one.
-
I'm strggling to think of a valid reason for that.

Personally, as someone with no capacity to create art (and thus am left with mostly critique when surfing through this particular board. HAHAhaaa. Surfboard), I try to gauge things specifically on whether or not the artist is even asking for critique.

If I ask, I want it. For example...
'something is bugging me about the figure in this piece, but I can't quite put my finger on it. What do you guys think?'
But if I'm posting up a pic (especially a paid commission), I would hope that if someone is making negative comments about it, they'd take it to a PM. Because, if someone truely has critique and help in mind, they don't need to gloat all over the boards bashing art... a polite whisper will do. -
hmmm... maybe I should add some effects of him 'beaming in'??

Well now, ever since Juggy started takin' on the Rikti a few months back, I've noticed a sharp increase in other heroes taking on the cause.
Here you can see Avo Prime cutting down an alien freak with just one swipe.

I do commission covers all the time. My gallery is in my sig, if you want to take a look.
I have a few pieces in queue, but if you're willing to wait a couple of weeks (or take the chance that you get bumped up), I'd love to do something for you.

So we're okay as long as we link to another site where the pic may be found, and not directly to the pic itself, if I'm reading you correctly?
Okay, now, get back to your Kheldian!!
[/ QUOTE ]
Sort of, but not exactly. If you link to deviant art, and I log into it, and there are either icons or a featured picture that is NSFW, then I'm going to yank it down. However if I have to go in and look in your gallery to find it, I will probably leave it up. It also depends on the nature of the NSFW. There is NSFW, and then there is N S F W. If you catch the meaning. And I think almost all of you know the difference.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I think that the N S F W bit is someting we should all be careful of. -

Hey all!
Just finished a piece that some of you guys expressed some interest in - namely Khep and Dark-E.
Im a little nervous about it since some folks have already seen the sketch and might already have some expectations - hopefully my version will live up to the one they had in mind.

As always - thanks for all the support, you guys rule.

That is a seriously GREAT piece.

Great piece Juggy!
There is one thing that makes me go Hmmm... I get the feeling that this is a bit of new territory for you? Specifically departing from natural color schemes, sort of experimenting in extreme monochroma. (Well, the piece itself isn't purely monochromatic, but how it differs is even itself interesting too.) I'm getting the feeling over your recent pieces you've been sort of focused on trying to get more out of your backgrounds in some way other than actually having to deal with the mundane part of filling in background detail. It's kind of an Andy Warhol direction overall.
Forgive me Juggy, but I've been quite interested in watching specifically how your art style may evolve over time. It just seems like you can make anything look good, so it's interesting to see where you choose to go with it.

It's comments like this that keep me posting here.
Thanks Goldbricker.
You know, not every one of my pieces is a homerun. You know that, and I know that. But I'm glad that otehr people can see me tying to stretch in different directions.
What I am short of in talent, I try to make up for in perserverance. -

I have to say though, in all honesty, I was looking forward to a 3 way artist take on my Omega Brothers.
Now Juggy, what's a guy gotta do to possibly go through with that (for some sort of compensation, of course). I am startin to salivate for more artz...

if those other guys do it, I can finish my end of it. -

A mass email to everyone that had registered on his site before (so far as i can figure).
Newsletter style. -
I just got a mass-mailout from MMOART today regarding the 'reboot'. Hopefully, it will reach all of their old customers so that they'll all have the option of continuing on with them or not.
((odd though, how did the whole mass-email work if... ah, nm.)) -

Doc Aether is one serious magic user. You may have seen him stomping some CoT recently... he seems to have a lot of extra energy of late.

So hey, seeing as I'm the one who started this, I figured I'd better chime in with my thoughts.
I started this because I was... unhappy with fans getting shafted with their art commissions. I love this community, and wanted to make sure that it didn't sink into a dark place.
Now, the 'artist in question' is back and willing to make amends. He's stated that he'll either finish the piece, or give the money back. IMO, anyone who has a grievance at this point needs to make a decision. And whatever decision they make, they've gotta' stick with it.
I'm going to bow out of it at this point. I came in, because 'the artist in question' had disappeared and many were left feeling they had no option. I made this thread (and some art) so that they would have one. But I'm not here to take away customers from a fellow artist.
I hope you all can kind of see why I'm saying.
-Juggy -
A BIG FYI for you all... you need to head to MMOART's site for a major update.
-
Some quick thoughts...
1. I'm glad that Jomaro appears to be ok.
2. Some of the new art is fantastic.
3. Anyone complaining about MMOART... should be asking for that refund and then moving on with it.
4. I'm kind of confused as to what all happened. -

Have you ever refused a commission on the basis that the character is just so horrible looking that you did not want to associate with it?
[/ QUOTE ]
I've refused commissions for the following reasons:
-The person failed to pay me in the past.
-The person is requesting someting that I don't feel comfortable with (sex stuff)
-I don't think I'd be able to complete to any satisfactory level (and ghen suggest an artist who will)
-The character is really lame... at that point, I decide to take a month's vacation and blame it on fatigue. -
[ QUOTE ]
My only complaint is when does the peice of art become property of the commissioner and not the artist?
[/ QUOTE ]
when they pay me.
If they are just displaying it, and not making money off of it, I have no problem. They wanted someting customized, they got it.
If they want to make money off of the image, they should disclose its use before hand so a fair arrangement can be made.
