Seriously, great work on the pose, lighting, art style, etc. Looks fantastic.
Yeah, that Moxie one was a long time in the making. I'm glad to see how it turned out - at certain points, I wasn't sure whout it.

Glad to hear. And I must say, I totally dig your siggy. I've gotta find out how to do that pic/linkage stuff.
  2. Just finished these up this weekend and thought I'd share with you all. Feel free to comment, but keep in mind a few of them no longer belong to me

Moxie - I originally sketched this up a few months back, so I'm guessing that's why it is sort of channeling MJ. Dig the old look of it though.

Dr Strange - I did this up recently for a challenge over on the PJ boards. Who knows if I'll win (not a stellar track record for contests).

The Daybreak Patrol - Just finished this one up. Always a bit tough to give everyone equal billing in a piece, but from what I hear, I hit it pretty close to the mark on this one. I always dig SGs with themed costumes.

Feel free to click on the linkies for larger views.
  3. this is pretty cool.
    got more?
  4. 1. what gets in the way of your art making?

Mostly, my daughter. I love her to bits, but it is nearly impossible to get a lot of computer time when she's around.

    2. what helps you get in the mood?

    Watching animations.

    3. what percentage of dedicaiton/skill, do you think would make a good artist ?

80% dedication, 20% skill. If you have the dedication, and keep at it, the skill will improve. And yes, I know there's going to be a flurry of people who say - "I've drawn for years and can only draw a stickman", but that only touches the surface. I've ben reading about the theroy that it takes 10,000 hours to be an expert at something... and that's what I think is needed to realy be up there. So, if you're still drawing stickmen after 10,000 hours of practice, then my theory is out to lunch.

if they ruined the movie version of my fav childrens book expect at least several more days of crankiness .

also got mod 8 to remove a few of the stickies up above , these were generally out of date threads that involved CoH europe contests and their specific rules that had stopped being done in 2008 as well as a thread by a retired redname that was pretty much the same as what TA's stickied thread covers but the other thread was much smaller and out of date .
Just out of curiousity Deebs, how do you feel about artists who are 'in game' blatantly advertising? Over the years, there's been a few threads saying 'look at me' and the like, but they were never too much of an issue (I thought). Now though, there seems to be a fair bit more (just an opinion).

Do they bother you (and others)?

Were those the ones you were reporting?

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally, on the one hand, I'm glad that people can come here and be able to find a way to purchase fan art. But on the other hand I can see where Deebs is coming from - I really am not sure if I want to see this place turn into a market.

    Whatever happened to subtlety?
  6. oooh, I dig that look. ^^

Yeah, it's all seeming a little too overt to me. Too much of 'buy this' and 'SALE inside' for my taste. I'm a little surprised the Mods have not come in with the hammer.

I'm all for people showing off their stuff, and offering their skills, but I wonder where the line is.
  8. As an artist on this forum, I've always felt appreciated. Many people, artist or not, have included my character in their work. And the vast majority of people have been supportive when I post up something.
  9. I'm a Photoshop man myself. Steep learning curve, but afterwards it's easy.

  10. I too have noticed a 'shift' in advertising. Not so much from one group to another, but rather that it has become far more blatant.

It seemed to me that before, people would try not to specifically mention paid transactions... nowadays, there's sales galore.

I don't mind, I just wonder what changed.
  11. Juggertha

    Take that!

    right to the gutt
  12. I think an artist can charge whatever they wish, whether they are low-balling or high-balling, or for whatever reason - it's totally up to them. And as long as they put it out there ahead of time, it's reasonable.

It's up to the consumer to choose whether it is worth it for them. I have commissioned some pretty expensive artists, some cheaper ones, and a number of sales - and almost always I found I got what I paid for and expected.

My biggest concern in this area is a) artists taking money but not delivering, and b) people commissioning but not paying. Other than that, it's all opinion.

Yeah, I'm feeling quite awake after morning cardio.
  15. Pretty cute, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing.
As for copyright stuff, you can add :iconjuggertha: to the comments section, and that should do what you're trying to accomplish.

Thanks for adding Juggy to this
  16. I think this is a great post - obviously well thought out.

I'm both an artist (if I can call myself that) and a collector. I've commissioned dozens of pieces, and have found most of the artists to be very responsive. I had seen their galleries prior, and was generally happy with the results. As an artist, I try to keep my price list and waiting list as up to date as possible... but I get some odd pieces that seem to hang on my list for a long time (for various reasons... client disappears/loses contact, that sort of thing). I've done probably over a hundred commissions for the CoH crowd, and I don't think I've had any major mess-ups. I'm sure not all of my peices have been perfect, far from it, but I've always tried to get the work out as promised.

I really ca sympathize with your frustrations in 'buying local' - the selection is limited. Basically, the same complaint people may have about 'buying local' in any market.
