Quote:I think so too though there's so far to go. But considering two other comics were inbetween this and the last kitty one, there was some new techniques I picked up.It could just be faulty wiring in my head, but it looks like you're getting better at the drawing, too. Toons are a little smoother looking, faces slightly more expressive, bodies posed a touch more naturally... I like it lots!

It's even easier to tell if you look back and forth from the last kitty comic to this one -
Quote:That's why I said early on to never answer these truthfullyWorst. Security Questions. Evar!
These answers (as well as birthdays, anniversaries, Father's middle name, etc.) can usually be easily found on a quick trip to Facebook and Ancestors.com. If you don't want your friends (or enemies) who know you play COH to be able to socially engineer their way into your account, do NOT use this kind of easily searchable personal information for security questions.
In fact, I have an article about it on my website:

Your O'Reilly/OReilly/oreilly/o'reilly example is poor in this case. Because otherwise *for a computer system* you are telling it accept a lot of different answers for one (for something that respects punctuation AND case).
If on the other hand the system is to not allow ANY punctuation and to IGNORE case, then yes, they are the same... (assuming that the system just ignores punctuation and doesnt replace it with a space).
Now, for a HUMAN to confirm these details (depending on their own rules) if you say "O'reilly".
What is the difference between

There is a difference, and a computer system will pick up on the difference, although visually there is no difference. If someone wants to make their security answers harder, they should be allowed. BUT the problem is that you are taking that option away from them.
*edit* dammit, the forum software didnt allow my example to show properly, but it *does* have several spaces after it when i edit the post....
$altered = converttolower(stripspecialandspaces($input))
if ($altered == $stored) huzzah();
I know this system would work assuming they ran the same code on the original submissions and the test later. And I'm not yet seeing an appreciable difference in security as a result if that's what you're saying.

#33. A Valentine's comic (a little late). Plenty of catgirls though

Quote:Ok, then I return with this. Are you really less secure having leeway on the challenge answers? If you pick something stupidly obvious (like answering any question they ask you with the truth), how does it change anything?More tries before lockout, I can understand (although I personally dont agree with it).
Making it have "leeway" though I *dont* agree with fullstop. That just makes it more insecure (same as having all passwords lowercase even if you entered it as a mixture of upper and lower case).
Some people also complain about passwords requiring at least 1 number, and at least 1 uppercase letter. I can see *why* they would complain about it, but as you never know where that number/uppercase letter will appear, it doesnt necessarily make it exponentially faster to break brute force wise.
The only reason they'd be close in the first place is because they already know the answer and they'd get it anyway with a few more tries. I see this as helpful to regular people and not any easier for the bad guy.
I'm thinking there should be no functional difference between the listings of Oreily that I posted above. -
Quote:Agreed. There's a balance to be had here, but it seems that they could have easily avoided all the heartache by warning people ahead of time and having a looser restriction on the number of tries during a certain period. That way people could try 10 to 15 variations. Either that or have a one or two letter margin for error. Perhaps removing all whitespace and not being case sensitive. That actually puts my mind at rest and slightly disturbs me as well.
Disturbs me in that if your name changes for *LEGAL* reasons, you cannot change the account details concerning your name.
Puts my mind at rest in that the details are not easily changed....
Let's face it, there are are a lot of ways to say O'reily, oreily, o'reily, Oreily, OREILY. -
Quote:Huh. I tried to change the account details to my name, but it won't let me. My brother's name is still on the account.1) Contract phone set up in someone else's name but paid by YOUR bank account. You are the one who uses the phone exclusively.
Apart from the bank details, all of the other account details (name, address DOB) are in the other persons name.
Who owns the account?
2) Who owns the NCsoft account if its someone else who pays and the card details are in one persons name (who doesnt play) but the actual PLAYERS details are on the main account.
The answer to Number to number 1 is "the person whose name the contract is set up in".
And pretty much every single other system that I have met uses the same setup. The account holder is the one at the top of the list... not the one who actually pays for it (for if that is the case, then my GF owns my account... even though its in my name, and was set up before I even met her)
*final edit* I have been given an account for another MMO. First thing i did was change *ALL* the details over to mine. Email address, name, physical address, etc etc all over to mine.
You can do the same with Ncsoft's account page as well.
I dont know if Arcanaville would agree with me, but I regularly go into my main account page to update passwords, double check details and change the security questions around every few months. -
Quote:Oh good. I was afraid to admit it, but I'm in the same situation. My brother played for a month and didn't really get into it. He let me create a character and the rest is history. I've paid on the account for the last 5 years and as far as I'm concerned, I'm the owner... but I have no idea what he might have put for challenge questions and after this long he might not either. My account (opened in May 2005) has always been in someone else's name because they opened it and gave it to me as a gift. It's a very good thing that I set the questions myself years ago, and that I kept them in my Gmail. Forcing this change without giving people the chance to review the questions is ridiculous.
Let's hope for the best...
EDIT: Aaaaaand nada. I have two accounts (one my brother set up and one I set up). I'll have to ask him for what he put in, but on the account I set up, I'm definitely using the right answers and still can't get in. I bet customer support is really busy. -
Quote:Agreed. Especially if they haven't paid on it in years. Clearly it's your account now.If your name is on the credit card that was used to pay for everything, that might be very helpful to your cause. As far as I'm concerned, the person that pays is the person that owns.
I suppose you could always have a friend call and say they're from NCSoft and that there's a credit on the account of 67.50 and they need to validate him as the user before they can issue the refund: what's the challenge questions, what's the password, etc
I'm of course kidding since that might likely lead to trouble... definitely kidding. -
I realize some people are having very frustrating experiences, but for me it worked well the first time. Even though some installations are in program files and some in program files(x86) it still found them and everything worked without a hitch.
Whatever the other issues, this seems a lot better than the previous launcher. I like having more control and I can't wait to see how the distributed download assists with speed. -
-
Any word on how to open more than one client? My two accounts require this
-
Distributed downloads is pretty nice. Also cool to have a launcher for regular/test/beta.
So.... Now how do I run my two accounts simultaneously? -
Whatever questions there are, do NOT use real answers. Real answers can be easy to find especially if someone knows you. People most likely to steal your account, what do you know, also people who know you.
Write them down if you have to, but many famous people (including Prez Obama) had accounts stolen because they used real answers to challenge questions. -
Quote:ThanksRed, those are great! and Jordan Yen, That's ADORABLE! super adorable! Especially the plates along the bottom and the kheldians!
I found inspiration in real Japanese dishes and then just changed them to glowing purple and blue for the kheldians. In the end, everything but the map and background picture are all hand-drawn or created.
I think I did a pretty good job though perhaps it's too busy for a in-game billboard. So much to learn... -
I really kinda almost believed I had a shot, so yeah, I'm disappointed, but the winners were great as usual.

I found some old motherboards in my Dad's closet and they had some codes for CoH on them.
I don't really know what they're for, but I think they're for new account signups only. They may not be valid anymore, but if you can use them, have at it.

Quote:I SIGN this! Please have a market workbench... PLEASE....Please consider a special SG Invention Station that ties into the BM or WW and allows access to the personal storage, rack storage and vault storage. I spent the holiday weekend going back a forth between these during my run to the 12 alpha slots. I had so much stuff to get rid of after every run that this activity stole hours from my game play.
It was so bad I had to keep a notepad next to workstation to write down what I needed to build these recipes. I want realism but too much is questionable especially for those that have lots of characters to alpha.
Here's some potential thoughts to brainstorm
Level 1 Invention workstation(existing)
Level 2 Invention workstation(access to personal, rack and vault storage)
Level 3 Invention workstation(Access to BM/WW and personal, rack and vault storage). -
I just finished mine and now the waiting begins to see the results.... dang it.

Quote:I've seen this a lot in Posi 2I've been seeing a very odd behavior from mobs that have a resurrection ability (Praetorian Clockwork Builders and Mortificators for example).
Picture this: you're fighting Praetorian Clockwork and you finish off a spawn, then look down the hall in the warehouse. You see a group of Clockwork just milling around doing Clockworky things. You engage the spawn.....and the Builder immediately takes off like the Devil himself is after him. He runs straight to one of his fallen buddies around the corner and tries to rez him. He ignores all attempts to stop him short of using holds/immobilizes. Your Brute even hits him for 3/4th's of his life bar and he still keeps right on trucking.
I've had the above happen over and over again with any type of mob that has a rez ability. The very instant they are aggro'd they take off running for the last spawn killed. Call me crazy, but I have never seen this behavior before. I've seen them rez buddies in the spawn you're fighting, sure. But never something like this.
So I just have to wonder: bug, or working as intended? I'm leaning toward bug myself. It's damned annoying either way. So what do you folks think?
Edited to add: these mobs will also refuse to attack if you make it impossible for them to get to their fallen comrade (using an immob, for example). They just stand there completely confused most of the time. That's why I'm leaning toward bug on this one.
