Yeah, it's been over three weeks. But thanks for telling me all about how focused they've been. And after I19, they'll be sooooo focused on I20 that they'll be immune from any criticism then, too! And then there's I21! Man, you just know they'll be too focused on I21 to expect them to fix any glaring exploits in less than a month...

Please keep in mind that the devs' timetable is not whatever you might imagine it should be.
They're immune from any criticism about not fixing a well known exploit over the course of a month because "You don't have their timetable!" You just say "Standard code rant" and then they can get away with anything! Got it. Ma, it must be nice to have such a blanket to hide under. Almost as good as their three week vacations!

Has anyone ever "whined about whining" and not sounded stupid doing it? Probably not. Especially since it required reading a thread of complaints that someone is supposedly against, just so they can say "Just don't listen to those guys! Man, it's so annoying to listen to you"

Pot meet kettle. Speck meet plank.

Not really. There's only a couple that see "constant" use so there's no reason to stand outside the WW in King's Row for example. Steel Canyon is popular because it's right near the university so if you're working on crafting badges or something that's a good place to go. Furthermore, once I know that the guys offering to buy my common salvage hang out in SC, why drop it for less money in Talos?

Way back in the day in another fantasy based MMORPG that pre-dates CoH, there was no auction house. Players wound up creating de facto auction zones based on what was convenient and other players would go there because that's where the action was. It didn't stop anyone from offering to buy/sell stuff in a dungeon six zones over but the real business still took place in these "player auction" areas.

I also don't see why the Boresights would disappear. If the demand already strips the supply then the only thing that would change would be the price which would, in this case, probably stay at the cap.
Because right now the supply and demand would stabilize around the 250k mark. Sometimes a little higher, sometimes a little lower depending on that day, how many people are on and whatever else. If you artificially capped it at less than half that, you have everyone who would have spent between 100k-250k+ all buying Boresights instead of just the people willing to pay 225k-275k. You're artificially changing the demand because now it's not "Who wants a Boresight for around 250k?" but "Who wants a Boresight for no more than 100k?"

Let's just pretend that, left alone, Boresights would sell for 250,000 inf. This means there's obviously a hot market for Boresights and people really want them for them to be selling at 250k. If they cap them at the AH for 100,000 inf then any Boresights put on the AH will disappear immediately. This is something folks would pay 2.5x that price so any legitimate ones will be snatched up immediately. So now you still have people wanting Boresights and none on the market so what do people do? They stand by Wentworths in AP or Steel Canyon broadcasting "WTB Boresights 150k each PST!!!" over and over. And you think "I can sell my Boresight for a capped 100k (less fees) at WW or sell it to this guy directly for a cool 150k." Kind of a no-brainer, huh? And the next guy who has money to burn says "I'll buy them for 200k each!" and "I'll buy them for 250k each!" and now you're right back to where you started.

Obviously not every item is coveted enough to go over the hypothetical 100,000 cap in the first place so Demonic Blood Samples would continue selling for 1,000 or 10,000 or 25,000 at WW's as usual. But anything that's already being pushed over that level won't magically go down due to a market cap -- you'll just ensure that those items never get listed on the market because it's an instant loss.

I'd say it varies from case to case. How much effect did it have? How hard is it to roll back what's been done? How egregious was its use? One size doesn't fit all just as one punishment doesn't fit every offense in real life. Thinking that one major case of exploiting should result in lost levels or whatever doesn't mean that I'm required to demand that everyone who ever blasted a stuck Hellion from range needs to be permabanned.

I think this is a key portion of where our difference in opinion lies. I'm not sure you can "break" the game rules of a computer game by using game-functions.
That's pretty much the definition of a game exploit so I'm not sure how you'd hold this opinion and then later agree that it's an exploit.
  7. The only thing price caps in the AH would do is cause people to sell things off-market. Witness the most valuable PvPIOs where people buy & sell them outside the market to get around the influence cap. If your recipe or salvage is worth Cap+X to someone, then any enterprising person will find a way to get Cap+X for it.

No they didn't. Finding ways to break the game rules and have underling class mobs give boss level experience is taking advantage of a bug, hence an exploit. Revisiting game balance in general is not.

Why don't you finds events where the devs explicitly said it was an exploit and compare it to that instead of making up your own examples?

Maybe you missed the quoted section where someone was "Just saying" that this was a holiday. My three week vacation remark was sarcasm.

The exploit's been known about for weeks. For someone else to self-righteously inform me that this is a holiday and so I shouldn't think it was disappointing that this exploit still hasn't been fixed (or maybe I just think they're all "slaves"!) showed "colossal ignorance" on his part. Feel free to let him know. Thanks!

    Just saying.
I need to work for NCSoft where they get three weeks off for Thanksgiving!

    Just saying. Good point, though!

I assume it's a combination of the spam but, larger than that, the complete ambivalence shown so far by the devs which makes the spam possible. This has been going on for weeks and it's be pushing a month provided it's actually fixed on Tuesday. No one believes that there'll be any crack down or anyone losing levels or anything like that. People can sit and openly spam for exploit teams because there's no indication that anyone actually cares. That's the part that gets disheartening; the spam itself is just a symptom.
  12. Malta Action Figure is the mission that makes me pause from my -1/x0 tips speed runs and crank that baby up to x8 on my Tanker. Even if I go down (about 75/25 in my favor), it's still great fun while it lasts.

On my tanker. The rest of my characters sigh deeply when they see it.
  13. Thanks for the tips. I have no idea where I got the Achille's Heel notion from. I must have misread the Def Buff on the Protector Bots as Def Debuff. Or else confused the ToHit Debuff. Or something...

    First 50?

My Earth/Storm controller really started to bloom post-32. It was the 31 levels before that that were a soul-eroding grind.

On the plus side, you get Hurricane and I've heard you do enjoy Hurricane
  15. In my experience, it's mainly at Atlas. Between WW's, and now in the AE and standing the crowds during Rikti/Zombie events.
  16. Positron's follow-up also said that you "probably" wouldn't lose your character and only the "worst" characters would be punished.

I doubt anything much will come from this aside from the devs eventually getting around to patching it after the Thanksgiving weekend. Maybe this Tuesday but I'm not holding my breath.
  17. Quick question: Are combat procs generally useful for slotting on bots? I stuck a Chance For Smashing proc from one of the Knockback sets in my drones -- is this a good idea? What about something like -Res Achilles in the protector bots? Any other procs that work well or should be avoided as "not as good as it sounds on paper"?

If it makes any difference to the suggestions, it's a Bots/FF.
  18. Crazy 88er's ran up the price of Alchemical Silvers so I can't casually purple my warshade!
  19. I wish I wasn't missing all these (and my tank needs the first 4 TFs!). Life with the infant has really diminished my ability to commit to a TF these days though. I might not get TFC on him until... umm.... the baby starts school!

It's playing hell with the market, especially for people who aren't farming and need to buy common salvage.

But this current situation's been going on for weeks now and if the Powers That Be haven't gotten around to fixing it despite everyone and their dog knowing about it for nearly a month, I'm not about to take up caring about it on their behalf.

As for the expensive IO's, the stock answer these days is to run Tip missions for A-Merits. One or Two merits (2-4 days work not counting the ability to buy a merit every day) will get you nearly any sought-after IO aside from purples or PVP's.

It's not, really. It was more just me finding it a little funny that the question of "Double XP" would come up or that it would appeal to a lot of people when the AE thing has been going on for weeks now without a fix. I admit that it doesn't actually address the "Double XP" issue.
  22. Until they fix the AE, every second is mega-double-xp weekend.
  23. So very, very signed. Trying to find good sets for my AR/Dev blaster was a depressing experience compared to my other characters.

    "Huh... another Positron's, I guess."
