  1. Haven't posted a progress report in a few days. Newest stuff is on page 2 of my album now, click the headshot if you want to check it out. Did some more today, but didn't grab any renders of it since the computer started having a conniption when I started rigging her. She's almost done though, I have a little more work to do on some of the textures maps, but the geometry is pretty much final at this point. I also need to figure out why the shadows are doing what they're doing under her nose and eyebrows, looks kinda funky.

I'm teaching myself to use Poser, so I'm interested in how props are made, because while there's a huge assortment of Poser props available, there are just some things in CoH that can't be found

Although, right now, I'm getting some help with COH prop creation for future renders
I know nothing of Poser. Once I'm completely done with the character though, she would be usable in a game engine, and I assume Poser.

By actual, do you mean physical model? Then no. Not yet at least. Once I'm done with her and get her rigged and posed, I might get a 3D print made of her, but for now she exists solely in 3DS Max.

As for an update, the low poly version is "done" at 7,498 tris, two tris under the limit. The picture once again leads to my facebook album. And the link is to a short video render of her glove.

It's not a physical model, yet. I'm about to update the other thread with a few more pictures. PM me if you want so we don't sidetrack this thread too much.

As I said here, I did actually start a thread over in the screenshots and fan creations section, forgot to mention it here. Although, is this technically cross-posting? I don't know. Anyway, if anybody wants to see where I'm at after three days of modeling: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=211364

And mine's a DP/Elec. Tesla-gloves ftw lol. I'm not sure if I'll actually be able to include them in the final low-poly model though. I have a tri limit of 7.5k and I'm actually 74 tris over as it is with the placeholder stuff. If I can make better hair and optimize her a bit, I should be able to, but I'm not sure yet. I hope I can since they're a big part of her "powers".
  7. Holster "argument" aside, thanks for the kind words, guys. Seven new images of her now, just click the picture to link to my facebook album. Hair is still placeholder, as are the eyebrows.

And Canine, it's for a school project, so I can't get burnt out or I won't get an A in the class (and I can't have that in a modeling class).
  8. So, this character didn't actually start out as a CoX character, but fate made it so by having NCSoft start the DP beta around the same time I came up with her. The character was originally thought up to be the character for my Low Polygon Modeling class to go along with all the props I've been modeling (they're all steampunk and not exactly CoX related, so I shall refrain from posting them here). I'm two days into the project and feeling happy enough with my progress to share (even though there is still a lot to fix and a lot to add).

The character's bio (updated for CoX): Amelia van Diemen is the daughter of renowned industrialist and inventor, Claude van Diemen. As the only child of the brilliant mechanic, Amelia gets whatever new "toy" she wants, whether it is a steam-powered gatling gun or a pair of sparring gloves with embedded miniature Tesla coils. Thanks to her father's wealth and inventions, Amelia is free to spend her time however she pleases; this usually entails traveling the world in search of ancient secrets. Recently, she found herself transported through time and space thanks to one such uncovered secret, winding up in Paragon City. Making the most of her predicament as always, she has taken up crime-fighting as her latest hobby.

    Her in-game version:

Her model sheet (including all the extra bits that I can't add in CoH) drawn by my good friend:

    Day One of modeling:

Wasn't very happy with her at this stage, face looked nothing like the model sheet and some aspects just felt totally wrong.

    Day Two of modeling:

Feeling much better about her at this stage, still a lot to do (like fix her hips, and her gloves, and her boots, and give her non-placeholder hair, and add all the little props) but I'm liking the direction it's going in now. Adding materials to her really helped to make her look right imo.

I'll be updating this thread as I continue to work on her. And if the thread hasn't been pruned by next quarter, I'll hopefully be throwing up some animations once I learn how to rig and such.

Comments are welcome, as are constructive suggestions. Thanks.

Thanks. I'll actually be modeling her myself as a school project starting tonight. I'll be able to throw in all the extra details that I wish I could add in CoH. As soon as I get some decent progress on her, I'll post again, or maybe start a thread in the screenshots and fanart section.
  10. Here's my character, Amelia van Diemen. Steampunk inspired.

And a pair of action shots, I call them "Don't bring a baseball bat to a gunfight"

Does this mean that you'll be taking away the flintlock that's already in the power selection? I hope not. Although, if you do decide to do so, hopefully you'll add a pepperbox as has already been suggested. I've got a model just about ready to go for you if you'd accept it. heh. 12. At first glance, it looks like a lot of melee attacks. I'd probably trim one of those and add some sort of boost, possibly a watered down combo of EM's boosts.

Also at first glance, it looks like marital manipulation.

Congratz to SV. And I do have Heroes on Guardian, as it is my home server, but as I haven't been playing all too much recently, that influence would go to better use on yourself. Go buy an IO or something lol.
  14. <--- is me. Well, was me about 5 years ago. Haven't really changed much though.

Toons are about 50/50 for gender make-up. It is kinda funny. There have been quite a few people that I've met whilst playing a female toon, and they treat me a lot differently than those who have met me on a male toon. And there's a few who still don't believe that I'm a guy. It's a little weird.

Strange little avatar glitch there. Hopefully fixed now.
  15. The first one is just a replaced asset. It's like the splasher program, it lets you put your own custom art in for wall details and stuff. Only works if everyone has the image then though. If you were to walk into that base, you would see it as the standard wall art.

The water is from a slow field, the defense item. They float it above the ground surface and tint the underneath blue-ish.
  16. Here's my take:

Yeah, I went with the arcane hood and the Valkyrie boots too >.< I didn't see that Alasdair did that until it sent me down to the QR box. heh.

Well, you could PM a costume file's contents. All you'd have to do is open up the costume file in notepad and select it all and copy and paste it into a PM, then the recipient would just open up notepad and paste it into there and save it out as a costume file. Should work, no?
  18. Forgot about getting more shots of her the other night. Don't have what I said I would, but she commandeered a room in my base... And I had to get a few pics. One and Two

Speaking of which, is this actually working correctly and giving extra influence? When I tested it, I was actually earning less influence when exemplaring. My test results can be found here.
  20. I've got a new toon that would be perfect for some pin-up style art. I didn't have any screenshots of her prior to posting, but here she is in the character select screen. Her name's Cinderotic and she's a fire/sr scrapper. Her mutant power is her fiery melee, but the SR is all natural ability honed from years of dancing and having to avoid groping hands of unruly patrons. I'll get some better screenshots and some close-ups later tonight (I'm not off of school for the summer, so I've gotta head to class now).
  21. That's darkening it up? The blue in that most recent one is a lot brighter than before. It looked much better with the darker blue, I think. I liked the one with the white gloves the best, although I might change the gloves to a different color. The rest of that one looks great to me though.

I noticed this too. I didn't exactly do any scientifically accurate testing, but it seems to me that in the first mission of Maria's arc, Chimera only uses his bow. In the mission to defeat Chimera that isn't in her arc, he used his bow and katana equally. When I tried him out in AE, he used only his sword and downed me in about 4 attacks (3 times >.< ). I realize that it's all the same NPC, but it seems like he has different preferences for fighting depending on the mission.

Also, congratz to you, Crush, and welcome to the club.

    Lucky Number 7

Took down Ghost Widow as an AV, with no temps and no insps. She got me with Soul Storm the first go at it, but thankfully, she never landed another Soul Storm on me the second go. There's now seven different AVs I've downed with no temps and no insps. It feels damn good.

And thank you, all you scrappers; for lessons learned through lurking and inspiration. I wouldn't be doing it if it weren't for you guys.
  24. I'm Johnstone. I go by other names as well, but I'm trying to consolidate myself into one identity... No, I don't have DID.

As for what I do... Well, I can draw, though I don't do it often since school work takes up most of my time that I'm not spending playing CoX. Mostly, I just lurk here and check out all the cool art. Sometimes I try to help with costume creations, or enter the palette contest. But I haven't entered in forever since I've come up blank with all the recent themes.
