Someone with the username CBruce on the MMORPG.com forums seeming to claim to be BaBs denies being fired and/or being involved with the news of the layoffs being leaked.

He didn't like me at all, but as a person I wish him nothing but the best and I hope he and the others laid off land on their feet and hit the ground running.

Quote:Technically, even though the leak was on Test and not the GR Test, but since only people in the GR beta at the time could get on Test...eh nevermind.I took pictures of the slots as they were on test (not beta, the accidental leak to test) but I run afoul of Mod 12 enough so I'm not going to push my luck.
Mod 12 nuked the thread in the beta forum with pictures. Which is odd, because they've done little to stop people from talking about it since.

Quote:Let's discuss worse case scenarios. So we get Tankmages...at 50...after earning a bunch of slots. The Devs are juggling a fundamental concept that has to be balanced out in all MMOs: How do they give players more power without pushing things over the edge allowing players to have god-like Tankmages? Honestly I'm not really sure how they are going to keep things from going too far with this Incarnate system.
I mean I already have several fully Purple-IO'd characters who are practically god-like right now. Just how much more all-powerful will the Devs let me make those kinds of characters? I'm not really saying I -don't- want the Incarnate system to happen. I'm just going to be very interested whether the Devs will be able to make it a significant system without unbalancing the game with it.
-We'll have people soloing at +4x8.
We already have that with some ATs. The game hasn't exploded.
-People start soloing Monsters and GMs.
The rewards for GMs and Monsters are so meager it's not really worth doing more than once for bragging rights.
-People start soloing the existing level 50 TFs.
Again, see above. There are already better ways to farm.
-The current level 50 content will be trivialized.
It's already trivial for some. As it should be, this is a game not a job. If you want challenge from the content we have now, don't be an Incarnate, just like now if you find the game too easy, don't IO out and min/max.

Quote:Besides the Alpha, the first four slots shown were all things most players would like:Yes.
Joking aside, the different slots do different things. Alpha was like a free global enhancement; some later slots added powers, some others added effects like -regen to existing power. No idea if they will launch in that state. What I saw on test for a short time was VERY overpowering.
-An extreme AoE attack
-A team buff
-Utility/damage bonus for your attacks
-Pet summons
It seems to me the obvious bases have been covered. It makes me wonder what the last four (Omega Slot excluded) will be.

Doomsday cannot be modeled in game because unlike CoX characters, he only gains XP when he faceplants.
Which brings up an interesting idea for a defensive powerset. The set would be based around faceplanting (no Firey/Energy Aura jokes please). You ride into your first spawn with the expectation you'll fall, but when you use the second core power of your set, a self rez, you come back stronger than before. Eact time you rez, the buff stacks to a point. The first core power of the set would obviously be a passive that provides debt protection.

Quote:For the little vertical movement you ever do in this game, flight temp powers suffice.I don't think that's the problem, at least with Fly.
Super Speed moves that fast after all.
I think it has to do with putting a limitation on Fly, because it offers a vertical movement, while Super Speed is for the most part horizontal.
Seriously, if the speeds of the travels were fairly balanced against each other, you wouldn't see a skew towards any specific travel in either PvE or PvE. They'd all be roughly equal in popularity.
I'd say you definately do see a skew away from Fly in PvP, not as much as Teleport now, mind you. 90% of players in PvP I've seen are SS, SJ (or both) with flight temps. It's called 'lolFly' for a reason.
In PvE, I'm inclined to believe that most people just go for concept anyways, regardless of the numbers. In other words, The people who take Fly don't take it because of its advantages, but take it inspite of its flaws. Further, I think even if Fly's horizontal speed was the same as Super Speed's, you would still see a lot of Super Speeders in PvE regardless.
The people who pick for concept will pick the travel that fits their concept no matter how it performs. The min/maxers will pick the "best" performer no matter which travel it is. In that light, it seems silly to me to balance the travels like they have, or to claim they're balanced when there seems to be two that have been judged as clear 'losers'(or at least lacking in performance).
The question I ask you is this: If a power is outclassed by its peers, yet is popular despite that fact, does that mean the devs should do something? History says they usually do, because there's been a number of powers and powersets that were far from being unpopular, yet had flaws/issues and got buffed.

People aren't taking flight temps for speed. They're taking them either for brief vertical movement or to position themselves stationary in the air. There is no advantage in Fly for that. The endurance drain difference is negligible.

There are like a half dozen ways to get flight temps, one of which literally involves you logging out and doing nothing.
Ninja Run =/= Super Speed
Ninja Run < Super Speed

Quote:Look at what their response to the Party Pack backlash was: Distract everyone with a "party" that only served to promote sales of the pack and toss a couple freebies to quiet the rabble.I find this conversation interesting. Not so much because of the specific topic at hand, but that this thread has spontaneously moved into the area of micro transactions, and continued discussion of the Party Pack, well over a month after its announcement. Just goes to show the extent of ill will the PP has generated in and of itself, as well as over the general issue of MTs.
Those are not the actions of someone who's done wrong and is trying to make up for it. Those are more like the actions of someone who knows they're being greedy and is trying to minimize damage with trifles in time to make their next grab for cash.

Quote:When you put it that way, sounds like something perfect for the Incarnate system; Incarnate class travel powers. It would be like Superman scorching the sky in his wake on the way to the gulag in Kingdom Come. THAT is some seriously iconic and godlike superhero flight there.
Unfortunately, cool requires effort. I try not to hope for cool things like that in this game anymore.

Quote:IIRC, the main reason they're adamant about not upping the flyspeed cap is technical. The engine simply can't load and unload assets fast enough and if you're high up, you'll really notice it. I don't think it's even a function of your system speed, the bottleneck is in the engine.I like Fly just for being iconic and easy to use, though I do wish it had a higher speed cap... it's trivially easy to get to and... 58 MPH, I think it is? is not that fast. Fly and Hover are much better than they used to be, but this still bugs me.
Still, it'd be nice if Fly had a "super sonic boost" effect done with teleportation like Shield Charge or Lightning Rod.
Or at least if they gave Fly a secondary effect that didn't come with temp power flight.

Quote:I suspect, with all due respect to theOcho, that all (yes I said ALL) of these auras were being developed for the inclusion into some kind of future booster pack.
When the Devs realized two of them (Snow and Firefly) leaked they made a quick command decision to let them become part of the upcoming Issue as a concession to all the complaints about the emote Party Pack. But once they realized yet a third aura (Storm) also leaked they knew they couldn't just keep letting all of these go for free because that'd leave them nothing left to SELL in a booster pack.
We will probably be getting a future booster pack that'll include the Storm aura as well as maybe other auras we haven't seen (leaked) yet. If that happens then I'll be reasonably suspicious that Snow and Firefly were likely supposed to be part of that pack too.
It's all good either way. It's just an interesting insight as to how the Devs react to ongoing situations like this.
I suspect you're right.
Three auras show up, chances are as part of a build they're working on at the same time.
Fireflies: Free
Snow: Free
Storm: For something else
Does not compute.
The fact they're going to remove Storm strongly indicates whatever it's for is going to cost extra. If it was for i20, why wouldn't they just leave it like the other two?
Why one weather-themed aura and not another?
With that in mind:
-In light of the Party Pack and to a lesser extent the Mutant Pack before it being so overpriced and anemic...
-In light of Going Rogue being unpolished and underwhelming in a number of areas with parts being delayed and prepurchase customers being ripped off for value and content...
-And with the overall content of the past issues shrinking ever since these microtransactional packs were started...
I'm drawing a hard line and simply refusing to purchase any more packs or expansions, no matter what they contain, until the devs get their stuff together.
These booster packs have been a slippery slope and in my opinion, the quality and value levels of the main game have suffered for it. We now pay for stuff we used to get for free and the content in each issue paid for by subscription is, at present, inadequate for a pay to play title, in my opinion. I do not pay a monthly fee so I can continually have a hand outstretched to me asking for additional money. I may not have always agreed with the dev's design choices, but I have never felt I was being ripped off by them or the game...until now.

Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
Or rather
Why take Fly and spend a power slot when you can buy jetpacks for a pittance?
I still don't think that's fair to people who actually take Fly from the Flight pool. People who didn't invest in Fly really shouldn't get all the advantages of people who did.
Temp power equivalents to Super Speed and Super Jump that are as cheap and easy to obtain as jetpacks don't really exist. All the flight temp powers still trivialize Fly and that's really lame.

Quote:So you argue the AT descriptions applies to AVs too?So let's look at those job descriptions, shall we?
"No lone criminal wants to cross paths with a Scrapper - because odds are that only the Scrapper is going to walk away."
Translation: Single target killer
Archvillain: Single target
Working as intended.
"The Tanker is an irresistible force combined with an immovable object."
AVs are resisting my irresistible force.
"The Tanker is a devastating hand to hand combatant"
None of my Tankers are devastating any AVs.
. -
Quote:In my opinion, that is exactly where Scrappers are now.You want a game where tankers do everything the best and you only need a team when you feel like having spectators.
Quote:Because that's how they do it in the comics.
. -
Quote:This is the singular most respectful, understanding and reasonable reply I've ever gotten.I understand where you are coming from. The specialist ATs, defenders, blasters, and tankers, do stand out in the current game. However, I think the game has room for those types of ATs and it seems people still play them (that may change over time, as this thread is discussing).
It is my honest opinion that when you are given the option to have what you want or at least something that is much closer to what you want, you should embrace it and enjoy. I guess you can still gripe a bit about the specialists, but they seem to be an interesting piece of the game, for variety's sake.
Of course, you have hours invested into older characters, so I get where just make a Brute is a bit casually flippant. But you mention you farm, so you could probably get one PLd by in game associates, if you prefer that.
Quote:Are you saying you don't like Brutes either? Brutes seem perfectly matched to your desires. Plenty of survivability, plenty of damage. I think you ought to enjoy them and just be content that tankers are designed to have modest damage.
Also, personally, I'm sore about Brutes getting a mechanic designed and originally intended for Tankers, even if I'm not the biggest fan of said mechanic. It's the principle and just another example of the devs giving Tankers the short end of the stick.

-
Quote:Unless it's a Scrapper. Because when you can get enough survivability to fight whatever you want, more than that isn't really needed or better.Making it so one AT survives better AND deals more damage than anything else is not fair to players of the other 13 ATs.

Quote:You could also walk up to him as a Stalker in Hide and use /em batsmash. That's the difference right there. A tank won't be beating that AV, but that AV won't be beating the tank either.
You'll be "fighting" him as much as any Tanker would be "fighting him."
Quote:A scrapper has 2 options: win or die, and they will die MUCH more frequently than they will win.
You argue statemating to an AV is better than simply not being able to survive it. I counter that by saying there's lots of ways to increase your own survivability in this game and almost always you can layer them, and more are added all the time. Any AV a Scrapper can't solo now, there's a good chance in the future he'll be able to whenever a new temp power(depending on your personal rules) or IO set comes out. There's no real offensive equivalent to capping your Defenses, and there's no Wedding Band or Eye of the Magus for killing things(Geas makes me laugh). Even with the Incarnate system, it's not not particularly geared to increase damage.

Quote:Sorry, I wouldn't cheer if I saw someone with a trust fund win the lottery either. It doesn't mean I have something personal against them.If you are ever on a team with somebody and you are not glad you have a debuff that increases their damage and are able to help them survive to dish out that damage, you're a terrible player. Period. There are no exceptions. You have no business teaming with somebody you personally hate enough to not want to help, and you have no business teaming period if you don't want to help your teammates in general.
So I'm sincerely hoping that the sarcasm I'm pretty sure I detected in what you posted wasn't actually there.
