An aggro aura is only effective in melee range, and in the next stage of powerset proliferation, tankers are going to start getting sets without taunt auras. Not all tankers take auras or Taunt anyway. A keldian dwarf who is serious about the tanking role will be continually spamming an aoe to compensate for the lack of aura.
In my experience, tanking keldian dwarfs are better at holding aggro than most Granite Tankers, and certainly better than most scrappers.
A well played keldian will also be switching forms regually in battle, so thier ability to do significant ranged aoe damage adds to thier aggro management ability.

I have to strongly agree with everything youve said. (Allthough ive gone to all Human and absolutly love it). WS Tanking is absolutly amazing, Level from 20-40 in constant teams with Tanks ive kept the agro by far. It may depend on the ability of the player but i find a Kheldian Tank who knows how to play a great success. -

Yep, what he said.
The thing about Warshades is that you have to be extremely patient when building one when picking up powers and slotting at the right time. It's probably not until around Lv 34 or 38 that a Warshade starts to really shine.
You also have to be a bit patient with your play, and this is hard when in a group because most just dive right in. Best thing for a Warshade is to look at the upcoming mob to see what nasties are there. Voids and Quants are obviously a priority target. Other Nictus beings can be hazardous to the team, especially them ruddy Cyst Crystals! Then specific danger enemy types for that particular mob, Sappers for Malta for example.
Then there is being aware of how long it takes to get a Warshade up to serious pwnage mode. Blasters can fire Aim and Build Up almost instantly, and Tankers and Scrappers the same with build up, but Warshades need time to fire Eclipse for the increased damage resistance, Double Mire for the increased damage output then changing back to a Nova for blasting power or firing off quasar.
If you keep this in mind though and practice your play with team mate that you play with regularly then you'll soon be picking off mobs in a matter of seconds. Especially a few mobs down the line when you have 2 Fluffy pets as backup!
I teamed my WS once and the team leader jokingly asked me to stop mauling the mobs and leave some for the rest of them!
And as far as Tanking with a WS goes, they make a pretty good makeshift tank. The only thing to remember is to not stay in Dwarf mode all the time otherwise you are not helping yourself or the team. Make use of the powers in human form to set up a mob for a trashing in Dwarf mode and return to human mode when done to recharge yourself with Stygian Circle and create another Fluffy pet if needs be.
Although the drawback with tanking with a Dwarf is that you need to keep spamming its taunt power to keep the mob on you as Dwarfs do not have the Gauntlet inherent power that tanks have to back up taunt. Plus the Peacebringer Dwarf has 2 single target attacks and 1 AoE attack where as the WS Dwarf has only the 3 single target attacks. Sure the third helps you a bit in draining a single targets health and topping up yours a bit, but sometimes a team might want that third PB Dwarf attack to take a group of foes down. That is if they dont mind the knockback of course.

See me and a mate were comparing PB's and WS's tanking both being level 36. We found the Sunless Mire creates such a big advantage over PB's for tanking. Also all i tend to do is play in 8man teams, and just storm through missions with a Spines/Dark scrapper and a Fire/Kin Controller. Speeding through missions. Always keep 2 fluffys up and the occasional Quasar in the middle of combat. But yeah deffinatly. from 35+ They really start to shine. -

You recon its the fact people believe too much what people say that they dont have the courage to tank properly as a WS. For me i charge in to a mob and just hope the team saw me Lol -
This post is purly to describe what i feel its like to play a Warshade, there is no goal to this post apart from the hope it may incourage other players to play a Warshade.
Ive just come back after a 3year+ Break. Came back with 2 other mates who hit 50 way back before the release of the Arena.
We all started new characters, Mine being a Warshade.
I can see how people get extreamly annoyed playing them, One of the facts is how people think there so Sucky and not the best at a certain thing, And the other fact they make you so Indecisive about what type of WS to Role. Tank/HumanOnly/TriBuild etc.
We started these characters around 4 days ago, And were all level 36. The Tanking ability of a WS is quite amazing i believe, Ive had comments like, "I never knew Warshades could tank this well etc". Ontop of that you have your pets absolutly great Damage boost. And if your playing with a Healer. then a bit of Quasar in the middle of a huge fight it always a Laugh. I can see the downsides of the Warshade completly, but the amount of Laughs you get out of it exceed completly. Its made me feel as if i was back on release when the highest leveled player was 36 and you were 32. The antisipation of everything was great. Just cant wait to continue Leveling.
Quick question: Does anyone seriously know the tanking abilitys of the Warshade at level 50? Because farming Pink missions with a full team without a Tank and with or without a healer is extreamly easy at the moment. Just wondering, because i hear alot of comments how they suck. Just would like to know the facts or if its people just playing Poorly. -
Im trying to put together a 8man Synapse TF tomorro at anypoint. Just thought i would give the forums a try. So yeah anyone up for it chuck your names down.
Atm we have :
20 Fire/Fire Blaster
20 Fire/Kinetics Controller
26 Spines/Dark Scrapper
Thanks -
Well i just come back after a 2 year break, Been speaking too Whitedeath recently and it crashed not so long ago, Blaze is back i believe. But i dont think its getting remade.
And my comp decided to go bang today so No CoH for like ages. -
Well my Computer decided to go pro and my Display Driver decided too Fry, im now installing CoH on my laptop but i recon there may be a tad of lag. Anyway ill see if i can still make the raid tonight.
-
Im kind of new too all this Controller Stuff, never rolled one before..Also its also to do with the fact i dont have enough power slots too get those extra moves, and i dont believe there as good as the ones ive chosen.
-
Yeh, ive changed my build a tad compared with my statement earlier, i didnt know what i was typing. My controller now has Steamy Mist and Artic air, i have them both on without a netend loss and my endurance is around average.
Atm im stuck on getting a move for 28,
my choices are, Shiver, Flashfreeze, O2 Boost, SnowStorm, Hurricane and Thunderclap.
Shiver is just a wealer version of Freezing rain except a Cone AOE which means going in.
Flashfreeze is just pants.
Snowsotmr, Thunderclap and Hurricane all push mobs away and scatter as wheremy build is too keep mobs tight together.
The only other choice i really have is Super speed but i already have fly.
Looking at your build has just confused me even more because you've taken a different playstyle too mine. -
Ok, ive been away for around 2 years, just come back recently and in the past couple of days i got a Ice/Storm Controller too 20. I am enjoying it, but not greatly.I Love the Holds but controller doesnt seem to be my thing.
So im planning on building a Defender but a bit puzzled on what Power sets to go for. Ive kind of cut it down too a Few sets, the sets are:
Dark/Dark
Dark/Elec
Kin/Elec
Now, im just wondering which set you lot think works best and why.
Thanks. -
Ok in my honest opinion, i believe theres 2 main ways too play a Ice/Storm, Hold/KnockBack and Hold/Debuff
On my Ice/Storm im going for a Hold/Knockback combo missing out Artic Air, Shiver, Freezing Rain, Steamy Mist, Hurricane etc. These are too big a End Drainer for my liking and i believe as a controller your job is too hold/Crowd Control, and leave debuffing too defenders.
But thats how im going too play the game and thats what will best suit me.
