Twixt didn't actually leave after I13 (or if he did, someone else was playing his account). I've killed him (Party, his BS/Regen) a few times in Freedom RV.

    [/ QUOTE ]

According to his blog, he was due to leave right around the advent of i13. He'd put a stop on his account and was playing the last few days/weeks.

Now I wouldn't be surprised if he was lying about that too.
Though there was some intimation elsewhere that he'd actually sold the account, but I take that with a grain of salt.

If you've killed him recently, he's apparently back on. Or was on for an activation weekend or something.
  2. Son, have someone waste a bunch of YOUR time and see how kindly disposed YOU are to them.

We do not, however, want someone reactivating their account and deleting some of the dirty little tracks that point to their research method being slightly less clean and forthright than they intimated.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    O SNAP!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Remember some of our conversation at dinner that night Philotic? I have lots of experience with people attempting to do exactly what he's done.
  4. Okay a bit of SearchFu turns up the Forums user Fasque as Twixt's player.

Sending a PM to The Ocho to see if we can get his posts locked and saved for a bit. Apparently there's going to be a counterpoint response to the article by some of the players here.

Note: This is NOT something that's going to be "Oh he was a [censored] + character assasination + rant" thing. We do not, however, want someone reactivating their account and deleting some of the dirty little tracks that point to their research method being slightly less clean and forthright than they intimated.
  5. I wouldn't say Twixt was responsible for it.

I'd say Twixt's methods merely highlighted some of the problems with Old Style PVP.
  6. He was a large turd in a very small bowl.

That sort of thing tends to skew one's perspective.

Essentially, he got a look at how i13 was going to change things for the worse for him and ran.

I'm sure it wouldn't have been as "educational" a larger portion of the population been resistant (in the game mechanics sense) to his ploy.
  7. Okay, here's my luddite take on this after reading the article, seeing his "leaving CoH" blog post, and doing a bit of search-fu through what's left of his posts in the board.

He "perfected" a way to abuse one of the mechanics of the game while ignoring several others (such as the reward mechanic).

When confronted by someone for whom his preferred method of assault didn't work effectively enough on, he left the zone.

He claims to have stopped playing due to "upcoming changes in the game made by the developer".

The upcoming changes he mentions were, *TA-DAAAA!*, Issue 13. This issue made drastic changes to PVP and several of these changes HEAVILY impacted on his preferred method of assaulting other players.

What he was doing technically falls under Section 6, Subsection D, item 9.

It's split up, so I'll give you the text in sentence form.

"You agree not to use the service to stalk or otherwise harass another member."

What he was doing qualifies as harassment. Especially if I'm reading a few of the chat/kill logs right.

Granted, there is some leeway in PvP zones about this. The fact that he was never (at least to our knowledge) officially reprimanded for it speaks to how much leeway there is.

His paper is, in essence, "Poke someone enough, even legally, and they're going to get very angry. Even in online games."

He's now done the equivalent of recreating Galileo's apocryphal ball-dropping experiment to reaffirm gravitation.

And ticked some people off in the process.

And if what he was doing was so "okay" by the devs playbook, why were changes to PVP instituted that crippled this sort of "play"?

In short, he has a short paper with an obvious, nearly self-fulfilling hypothesis.

If he's the type of lazy "professional academic" he appears to be, he really has nothing to be proud of. But then again, he's locked into a profession that's "Publish or Perish". Even if his research methods are sloppy and suspect, he's still got to put out an attempt at a paper.

So, for being the sort of researcher he is, having picked the lifestyle he has, and the sort of player he was, he deserves no more than a tiny modicum pity.

I like that defense numbers window.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Click on Powers, then Combat Attributes.
Expand your attributes and right-click on whichever attribute you want to monitor and select "Monitor Attribute".

You'll get a monitor window that comes up and you can drag it pretty much anywhere.
  9. And I thought I was funny-enough looking already
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Nah, but perhaps you're one of those folks like Malaise or Infernal who's his own opposite.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Jeckyl and Hyde? Nah. Doesn't ring a KILLMAIMDESTROY!

    *COUGH*

    Sorry. Now where were we?
  11. [ QUOTE ]
I made my evil Praetorian counterpart the week COV came out. My main COH toon is a hero of the people, for the people; thus 'Great Briton' become comes...

...'Fascist Briton', brutal superhuman enforcer of the Police State of Great Britain.

Nothing like crushing dissent beneath a giant nightstick. LOL

    [/ QUOTE ]

Go ahead. Laugh at the funny cap. I dare ya!
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Hmm. I guess for the forum avatar it would have to be Impervium_Imp_With_a_Goatee_That_Means_He's_Evil.

I toyed with a Praetorian version of my Sonic/Sonic defender as a Sonic/Sonic corruptor, but it felt too much like playing the same powersets over again. (Neurophon vs Battlesong, btw).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since I already have a goatee, does this mean my evil version is clean-shaven?
  13. This is just an example of Crazy Prepared.

There are even non-weaponized versions of this existing in comics.

For example, Enchantress from DC comics always has a roll of duct tape on her person.

So, for those little instances where your enemy is gloating about how they're immune to your primary and secondary forms of butt-kickery.
*Pulls a rocket launcher out of hammerspace*
    Villain: What the....oh crap...
    *KABOOM!*
  14. If this was a stealth nerf, it failed it's stealth check months ago.
  15. Not that having the ambushes shredded wouldn't have made it faster.
  16. Pics! It happened!

Okay this was a much different experience than the blue side run.

The ambushes were annoying, but not insurmountable.

And, once we were able to take Reichsman on, we beat him down incredibly fast.

    Full disclosure: 3 nukes.
  17. Should be in the pics listed above.

18,258 inf for the first one.

The award for the second fight is kinda weird. I got three separate inf awards, one of which should ostensibly be for completing the TF.

    18,362 inf.

I think the two 24,000+ inf awards are for:

    A: Completing the mission
    B: Completing the TF
  18. Yeah, the group originally was iffy about fighting Reichsman the first time. But we'd gotten him down about 10% when they finally asked.

I basically said "I'm good either way, so far, I don't feel a thing."
    Stupid-high defense numbers FTW!
  19. Running Invincible, 2 hours 43 minutes 19 seconds for the whole TF.

Link to pics with a completion time in one of them.

Each of the Reichsman fights was at LEAST half an hour.

People on other servers, like Pinnacle, are reporting 30 minute Reichsmans. I'm thinking they avoided the first Reichsman fight (probably makes sense if you really and truly need the dimensional grounding gun to actually beat him the first time) and stealthed a bunch of it. I know we stealthed the Reichsman Earth mission.

    Everything else we just steamrolled.
  20. Roughly what part of the country are you in?
  21. Hyperstrike

    32 Min Kahn!?!?!

What powersets were your trollers running?

I went through with 4 blasters, 2 defenders, a troller and myself (tank).
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Try the Hero side version. It'll be the new speed Katie within hours.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Katie? Maybe.

Speed? Right up to the Reichsman fight(s).

Ran it, on Invincible, today and thumped Reichsman both times. 2 hours, 43 minutes. Fully 75 of which was just beating down Reichsman.

AND WE HAD FOUR BLASTERS plus pets! If I hadn't been nearly unhittable, I'd have been a smear on the wall and all 6-7 of my squishies would have been in deep dookie.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Obviously you will just have to go back and do it again to verify now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

NOT today! My hand still hasn't finished reattaching itself to my wrist.

Actually, the second fight might go a bit more smoothly. If you'll notice, we had an extra blaster during the first fight. He had to bail for work (darned real life concerns!). While I don't think we're going to cut 20 minutes out of the second fight, I DO think we'll shave a few minutes off here or there.
  24. Okay, shut my mouth.

I am now and evil exploit exploiter!

    KHAAAAAAAAAAAN!
