Thanks all for the responses.
Stargeek, have a cookie for pointing out that wonderful resource. -
The overview is very much appreciated. It has let me know I am on the right track as it is pretty close to the build I am using now. The main difference is that I have not taken Dull Pain. Right now I am just keeping it low impact leveling and not running tfs or AV's or anything of the sort so I really don't feel like I need it. For this kind of play I tend to prefer more passives and less "Oh S&*$" buttons. For high impact play, pvp and soloing avs and such, iwinbuttons are king... but not for what I'm doing now.
A thousand thanks. -
Greetings all, I'm looking to farm up some merits, but don't really have the ability to run TFs (familial duties) so I was looking for some advice on the best way to get them solo. I know I can run oro arcs to get them, and was just looking for some advice on some of the more efficient arcs as far as time to reward ratios.
Currently doing this with a 27 scrapper so the higher level content would not be available to me (yet) but feel free to include it as I am steadily rising.
Much appreciated! -
Quote:That's unfortunate. Guess I'll be staying blueside until GR drops. They specifically said that wouldn't be the case at Hero-con.
I think its a mistake, but there you go.
(For all the rabid defenders of the red market, my opinion is just as valid as your so unless you have something constructive to say please don't bother, I already know you don't agree with me) -
The kat animations are very nice. I've actually tossed some Apocalyptica in the playlist and am getting fired up to swing some steel just now. They seem to go quite well together.
Werner, I've seen your name touted around as one of the "go to guys" for regen. Do you have any guides on how to be a god with that kinda build? Looking for something low to medium income (rerolled on a new server, willing to put some effort into doing it right but not looking for like billion inf builds or anything). -
Interesting, thanks for the insight. I'll have to look into it when I get high enough to bother really worrying about performance.
I actually have a katana that I prefer, as I like the style and animations for the set. I just didn't want to shoot myself in the foot if BS was a wide margin better... since I do like it as well, for a different looking character. -
So I've been tinkering with a Katana scrapper and I was looking over the Broadsword set.
It appears to me that the sets are virtual clones except Katana does less damage and has faster recharge.
Perhaps I've missed something, but that seems like it would be a significantly weaker set later in the game once you start stacking up bonuses and have a full attack chain with decent recharge. Did I miss something or is katana just a weaker set for a well developed character? There is no question that the faster recharge is nice at lower levels before you have a fleshed out attack chain, but that's not really worth shooting yourself in the foot for higher level play.
Did I miss something? -
EDIT: Post removed
Nevermind. This has long since degenerated from amusing to just pathetic. -
Several days ago when this thread kind of exploded into the mess that it is now, I decided to actually test the assertions of the marketeers posting here.
I placed bids on a number of odd level (17, 23, 27, 29 etc) recipes. I chose recipes that would be useful for frankenslotting, but avoided the high demand quads and such. All bids were placed at reasonable prices, in that if it had a consistent history I matched it. If there were large price spikes, I placed bids reflecting the median price.
Every bid is still sitting unfilled. -
Thanks all, just wanted to check since in many other games recasting a dot power before the damage had run its course would clip the dot and you would lose DPS. Of course, most of them don't have a built in recast timer to prevent you from simply stacking the same dot up on a target etc.
Good to know, much appreciated. -
So I am leveling up a Fire/Kin (two dual boxed actually) and I have a question regarding the DoT damage of several powers.
Between speed boost from the dual boxed kin and siphon speed, I'm sitting on a healthy chunk of recharge. If I cast a damage over time power, and cast it again on the same target before all the damage has applied what happens?
Do they stack and both do full damage? Or does the original get clipped and overwritten by the newly cast power? -
Quote:Well said. The villain market just doesn't have the same levels of supply and you just can't get things as easily.
No anecdotal evidence from experienced and smug marketeers can change that fact.
People that have an actual life outside the game will never have all the same knowledge and abilities to take advantage of a scarce market and so they will opt for the blueside one, which has a lot more stuff on it.
All of the idiotic e-peen measuring by marketeers about how deep they roll in the redside market does nothing to change any of this.
But it is funny at least to watch you make fools of yourselves.
Way to add nothing useful to the thread. So are you being deliberately thick, or is it for real? The point is... casual friendly play=a thriving playerbase. The less casual friendly your play, the smaller your playerbase will be. Redside is not as casual friendly due to weaker market and more scarcity in teaming (among other things). The point I was making was to highlight that relationship. But you either totally missed the point, or deliberately missed it in an attempt to troll the thread. -
Quote:I strongly agree with this. The only downer is the nerfed xp in AE. But the complete lack of travel time is a bonus, thought that may end up evening out when you consider sifting through all the potentially terribad missions to find one worth playing, heh.You can also run arcs on your higher level characters for merits through the flashback system. It'll never be as efficient as TFs as you say, but it would probably be a good deal faster.
I also think that for solo players, who don't have much time to play and can't get in on TFs that the AE is a better choice for leveling. Tickets come in quite a bit faster than merits, due to not getting any other rewards.
The advantage is that you get to tailor your rewards to the character. No more Mutant origin SOs for your Natural origin character.
You can also focus buy exactly what kind of salvage you need, and can even turn a decent proft from selling off choice pieces of salvage or bronze rolls.
The only disadvantage is that you can't ticket buy specific IO set recipies, but outside of that, everything is there to be purchased without the use of inf. -
Quote:Heh, toss a 4, 2 and 5 month old on top of that and it gets pretty hectic!Right - also having a 10yo (and a 7yo), that's exactly where I am in regards to TFs/SFs. If I am absolutely certain that the kids are occupied - which usually involves them being out of the house (or out of state
) - I might join a TF. If there's a chance I'll need to attend to them in any way (and there are seemingly countless ways), I won't, like you say as a matter of courtesy.
This. Since I've not been playing my 50, but rather leveling... the merits are rolling in exceptionally slow. Sure I can get a real nice high end piece... in 4-6 weeks. -
Quote:That's a pretty slick attempt at setting up a straw man. When did I ever say it was about pricing. Everything I have mentioned about market flaw (aside from a single example of price fixing, which I pointed out was an example and not the root of the problem) has been in reference to supply, not price. Thats twice already today you've tried to make it seem like I'm saying something other than what I actually posted.I've took a glance at common IOs on blueside ad red, there isn't really a significant difference in pricing.
Quote:That doesn't sound very casual, at least not to me. I would consider myself a "casual" player, and I'm lucky if I participate in a TF once a month.
But some people seem to have serious issues understanding that if the market is your sole source of IO's, it rapidly becomes very flawed when supply is significantly lower than demand. But god forbid anyone should disagree with them or point out flaws in the system. But hey, lets see how many more straw men arguments and personal attacks this thread can garnish today, it's off to a solid start within just a short time! -
Quote:Sorry, not a lot of TFs and raids that I've seen forming up between 11 Pm and 3 Am. Thats generally the only timeframe when I could commit to being at the keyboard that long. Juggling wife work and 5 kids will often keep you from making time commitments like that. Which means no TF farming for merits.Morning thread,
Who are you to assume that I am not a casual gamer? I spend MAYBE 30minute to an hour fooling around with the market. I spend 2 to 3 hours playing the game and some days I can't even manage that. I RP very casually. I PvP even more casually. And I try to run atleast 3 to 4 speed SFs a day if not every other day for merits. (PvP is broke and PvPECs ideas of balancing just make me sick to my stomach.)
Any casual gamer can IO out their build redside. It just takes a willingness to work the market and run LGTFs, ITFs, Hami raids for merits. You're argument isn't for the casual gamer, it's for the lazy gamer.
You're lazy. There's nothing wrong with that, you have every right to be lazy, it's a game. However, you don't speak for the casual gamer. With a little bit of effort the casual gamer can afford to IO out their build.
But hey, keep up with the personal attacks. It's clearly helping your case. -
Quote:You're confusing casual with incompetent. I've known plenty of casuals who go and buy a full set (or as much of it as they can find) even if it gives no bonuses really worth having and gives things they don't particularly need (rech in a toggle or similar) just because it is a set and it is neat. Many people like to have something shiny and new for their character every once in a while. Not that actual casuals would bother with sets, anyways, since those require things like research, planning, and using tools like MIDs so that you can see the actual numbers beforehand in order to choose effectively. They tend to stick with TOs, DOs, SOs, and their basic IO versions from recipes that've dropped. They'll also tend to slot haphazardly, based on what they seem to need at the moment, unless they bother to ask in broadcast/local/help.
-
The red market isn't broken. It simply isn't casual friendly. Not everyone plans their build out 15 levels in advance so they can place bids far enough in advance to actually get the sets they need at the point when they are level appropriate.
It isn't broken. It is just very poorly supplied. It is also so low traffic it is exceedingly easy to manipulate. I know, I've done it just so I can understand it. You seem to just want to fixate on the idea that I fail at playing the market, when you really have no way of knowing one way or the other. I understand how to do it, I just don't enjoy it. My 10 year old also doesn't enjoy it, and he also doesn't enjoy waiting 3+ days for a fun little shiny thing to slot in his powers. Personally... I usually have at least a rough plan in mids so I could place bids 15 levels in advance so I have some chance of filling them... and there are times I have done exactly that.
Bottom line is, it's just not casual friendly. That pretty much describes redside. That right there is your population problem. Less casual high end content, less casual access to the market, less players... coincidence? I think not. WoW is the most casual friendly MMO ever created, and has the highest playerbase by a ridiculous margin.
Succeeding at the market redside is not tough, it simply is not enjoyable, or possible on a time window comparable to blue.
We're just going to have to accept that we want different things from the game.
EDIT: Just wanted to add, my villains are comfortable as long as I'm not trying to buy purple sets or anything, and that is resting on the inf I made previously. I hadn't played since back around the time issue 12 was announced. So issue 11 was what... 2 years ago? There's been considerable inflation since then and I'm still comfortable for casual play without having to really think about inf. Like I said, it's not tough to make inf on the market, just boring. -
Quote:Vent? Nah. I've been playing pretty much exclusively blue for a few weeks now and I do have one major complaint. It takes so much longer to sort through what is actually available to purchase for the toons I am leveling. I am quite pleased with the state of play that I am currently experiencing.No,no. Don't teach him anything. He just wants to complain. Let him vent.
It is just providing quite a lot of amusement watching you act superior and e-thug it up about how tough you are surviving the the rough rough world of playing villains, while constantly trying to dodge admitting that the market redside is in a bad state. -
I fall into the camp of stamina being "must have".
Even on my SS/WP brute, I took it, but I did take it much later. Getting Health and stamina complements WP quite well. More regen, and more recovery to fuel your toggles. Especially if you run tough/weave.
But then, I think this is a game and want to play it as such. I want to run in and bust faces, not manage my blue bar. -
Quote:Because I can't fix it. I can only work around it. There is a difference.Humility, if you have the capacity to fix your problem then fix it. Otherwise, why *****?
Totally aside from that, I pay people a monthly fee to fix things like this.
Hell, the whole concept of the GR expansion pretty much admits the devs have no way to fix redside population. Once that is established, the only way to have a healthy market is to merge it with blue.
But accepting that fact is tough once you've taken the internet tough guy stance. Have fun sticking redside where you can be the big fish in a small pool. -
You're absolutely right. The keyword for redside marketeering is indeed "patients" as in only mental patients think it's a healthy market.
Oh, whats that? You meant patience?
Well, you're right about that. It takes a lot of patience. It's pretty sweet when you hit 15 and bid on some 18 recipe sets. With enough patience you might even buy the whole set by the time your level 25 or so!
You like redside, we get it. You feel all e-thug for making it in the oh so hard world of City of Villains. That still doesn't mean the market is healthy. -
I grabbed one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130521
and it runs phenominal with pretty much everything maxed out. But I don't generally team so it's just me. It might bog down with a full team throwing stuff around. -
Hah, I had totally forgotten these boards even had rep ratings. If you check the OP's recent posts he's pretty much trolling lately about this subject. "You traitors suck, come back to redside" and the like. I didn't rep hit him, but I can see why people did.
-
Quote:Nope, I blame marketeers for destroying the market redside. There is simply not enough traffic to prevent someone with disposable cash from outright cornering a particular item and completely destroying the market for it.and yet you blame marketeers for your woes.
If you are being disingenuous and really don't know how to play the market, I'd be more than willing to direct you to the market forums.
Otherwise, your market complaints confuse me.
To go back to my earlier example Circuit boards, one day they're 500-1500 past sales. The next they are 150K with stacks and stacks of bids on them. This is solid in my mind because my son got a recipe drop that he wanted to craft and slot and we needed a circuit board for it. He asked me what happened and why it was like that. I explained about the open market and that someone had cornered it for the strict purpose of making some extra money, and that was why it was a pain for us to get this done.
His response? "So basically they're just jerks?" Trust a 10 year old to cut to the heart of the matter.
Bottom line, it's your $15 and you can play how you want. It's also my $15 and I can continue to consider you a waste of skin for playing in a manner based on taking advantage of others.
For the record, I'm far from a pauper redside. I know I can't hang with the big dogs, but I think I've got 2-300 mil in raw inf with about that much sitting in my base enhance tables and at least a few hundred mil slotted in my brute.
Bottom line, I don't find market pvp fun. It's not difficult, just lame and tedious. Marketeers abusing the exceedingly limited market supply redside has the effect of driving yet more playerbase away from red. I would prefer to play red, I like it better. but I simply will not play in that environment. I want a market where I can grab some basic sets for my toons when they hit 20. You know why? Because it's fun. I want a market where I can find a full set of recipes in the teens to give to my son when he hits his next level and slots out his new shiny attack power. You know why? Because it's fun and it makes his day.
That simply is not a feature you can rely on for redside. You know why? Because we have market pvp e-thugs who think buying lowbie stuff is about "survival of the fittest" and then wonder why vil zones are ghost towns. This obviously isn't the only reason, but it damn sure contributes.
Have fun with that.
