DoT Clipping/overwriting?

So I am leveling up a Fire/Kin (two dual boxed actually) and I have a question regarding the DoT damage of several powers.

Between speed boost from the dual boxed kin and siphon speed, I'm sitting on a healthy chunk of recharge. If I cast a damage over time power, and cast it again on the same target before all the damage has applied what happens?

Do they stack and both do full damage? Or does the original get clipped and overwritten by the newly cast power?

Dunno when they're from different casters, but if the same person puts the same DoT on the same target (such as the level 1 immobilize, which has a recharge about half of the DoT duration), it definitely overwrites both the time and the damage. It's why my Plant Controllers (both Cont & Dom) use Roots as the timer when on a single target to reapply Entangle (cast Roots, then Entangle, then Roots again when it recharges, then Entangle since the original stopped DoTing a second or two before).

This. Any power that applies x ticks of damage over y period with only a single hit check cannot be "overwritten," or halted in any way short of the target dying.

Now, it is fairly easy to overwhelm the game's ability to pop up little orange numbers. If you hit something standing under someone else's Freezing Rain, for instance, you may not see some, or any, of your damage floating up there all nice and bright against the sea of gray, but that's purely a display issue. The damage is still applied and tracked, which you can verify in the combat log.

What Wonderslug and Silas said. You can't "replace" existing DoT with a new one, even for the same power. Both apply. Don't base what it's doing on what you see the orange numbers doing. For powers that appear there, look in your combat damage log.

Thanks all, just wanted to check since in many other games recasting a dot power before the damage had run its course would clip the dot and you would lose DPS. Of course, most of them don't have a built in recast timer to prevent you from simply stacking the same dot up on a target etc.

Good to know, much appreciated.
