One of the first rules of game design is that when realism conflicts with fun, fun wins.
The goal of base raiding is to make it an event, something both sides can look forward to, strategize for, and participate in. Unannounced raids might be "realistic" (and I use quotes here because we are talking about a comic book) but they sure aren't much fun for the defenders. If I have to be on line all the time, am forced to bail missions because I have to go defend my base, or find someone trashed our base at 11 AM just because my SG has to deal with real-life things like jobs and work, well that is not fun.
To be fun, a base raid has to feel exciting -- and fair. That means fair to both sides. That means giving both SG's notice so both groups can organize their members, make arrangements to be online and develop plans. Scheduling will actually strengthen SG's -- it gives them more purpose, more "We need to be online at this time."
We are also looking at some other options for "instant raids" for pick up play, but again finding ways to keep things from being a no-fun grief fest.

From those of us with jobs: thank you!

From those of us without lives: GRRRR!
I kinda expected it to be this way and I say, it's a good choice. -

Maybe Jackson could dig up a bit of dirt on whether Azuria's consistent loss of key artifacts is incompetence or design.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or if there's a giant hole in the back that no one has noticed yet. I keep expecting some 'Find the junk Azuria las lost" TF. Mountain ranges of ball point pens...Lakes of socks...piles of her magical items...
Very nice article. I'll definately be waving to her the next time I pass through city hall on my way to find more of Azuria's lost junk.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think at some point in the game you should go to Azuira and ask for some artifact, you desperately need it, but she won't give it to you because of the danger involved. So you have to acctualy go to a MAGI safe house and steal the artifact. The entrance bar should say, "Steal an artifact from Azuira? This should only take about 5 minutes." -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
And I'd just like to add my support for an article on the amazing misplacer of artifacts, Ms Azuria.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seriously, why do my contacts still think its a good idea to give her Li Kuah Tehs Eldrict Spatula of Grue-slaying anyway?
[/ QUOTE ]
Azuira secretly hates all heroes because they ruined her personal life. She has cast compulsion spells on all the contacts in the city so when ever they come in contact with a magic artifact they immedately think Azuria should have it. She then calls the CoT or whoever and tells them where to find it. -

I really loved this line from the article...
"was particularly egregious during Mayor Spanky Rabinowitzs many years in office."
Mayor Spanky!!??
I wonder if he is into spanking Fanboys??
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats been around since I2 and maybe before, I'm not sure if they added in Spanky's Boardwalk in TI after I2.
Edit, Hurray for Gil coming back. And I look foward to seeing the rest of this series of articles.
But Gil, if I could make a personal request, do General Hammond next. Please.

but it's ok, without the sheep, the people who can think for themselves wouldn't be so special.
[/ QUOTE ]
I just have to warn you that the tired old "You're all sheep and I'm better than you because I can think for myself!" attack/defense really doesn't work. Maybe it makes you feel more secure in your vision of reality, maybe it's just something you tell yourself to feel better, but really it's as much a load of crap as anything else mentioned in this thread (such as "DOOOOOOOM" and "brown nosing fanboys").

Villians known good in Praetorian Earth for sure we have heard about the Carnival of Light and on another dimension the woman who becomes Countess Crey is a freedom fighter fighting against Nemesis, so its possible the Crey of Prae Earth could also be good.

Everyones favorite evil CEO is good on Preatorian Earth. Anyone who is level 40 has meet Ghost Falcon, on our world a hero named Invisable Falcon disappered when he had a run in with Crey. His evil Preatorian alternate, Ghost Falcon, was captured by Crey and brainwashed to be a good guy and now he's here giving us enhancements. -

I'll give this a go, sorry if I left anyone out.
New Recuits
Mended Ribs, Alan- My character
Sartain- Pretty sure she likes him and for all her habits Alan quite likes her. He also tresures the coin she gave him, though he would never admit to it.
Vulpa- Wants to avoid Vulpa at the moment, he still feels bad about exposing her to Fox Soldier and is afriad she'll remember that they are part of the same supergroup.
Raymond- Alan's best friend based mostly on the fact that at the Acedemy Raymond was the first person who was realy nice to him. He would do praticly anything for Raymond and trust him more than anyone else on the team.
Radon- Alan would like to consider Radon a close friend, but he still abit worried over the Cloak of Fear fiasco.
Celes- Alan feels a real kinship with her because they share the same problem. Alan considers her the sister he never had.
Patchwork- Something might be missing from the pile of hero parts, but Alan would trust Patchwork anywhere, except maybe with a secret.
Super Shard- At the moment Alan's trusting him to keep the secret of his father. As long as he keeps it Alan will always help him and trust him no matter what.
Mister Null- Even Alan's instant opinion hasn't realy desided what to make of Mister Null.
Demonic Shadow- Alan thinks he understands Demonic, but wished he was more open about what was going on with him. No real opinion.
Hydrocity- hasn't meet him yet.
2nd characters
Red Son- Still shocked he's alive and in Paragon.
Fox Soldier- Alan wants to punch him in the face for what he did to Vulpa.
Trevor Gulo and William Black- Hasn't meet them yet
Psyosis- Alan hates him. Psyosis sold him out when he was an illegal vigilante and for all the good this has done him Alan still hate him.
3rd characters
A. King- Alan wants to find out who he is and why he brought Red Son here.
Lance Corporal- Alan's Mentor who has his total respect.
Left-handless man- Has yet to meet. (though I can't wait to see more about this)
As I was writing this I realised I've introduced alot of Characters to this RP. I'm glad other people are adding there own stories, I'm afraid I might end up scaring everyone away with everything I've add. -

See my prior post for the correct answer. That's from Manticore himself posting the changes. All those body switches made Psyche's powersets a mite odd, IMHO.
[/ QUOTE ]
You are correct. Sister Psyche has always been a Mindrider. Her merge with Aurora Borealis was obviously the most extreme case, but she occasionally picks up other powers when she is riding with a super.
[/ QUOTE ]
Mindrider, eh? Interesting...I haven't heard this term used yet. Did you just coin it, or is it a peek at things to come?
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait, I know the answer to this one, Manticore: "Check out the upcoming City of Heroes novel for more on this term and the relationship between Statesman and Lord Recluse!"
Right?

Wrong, you forgot the part about 'it will be written by Robert Weinburg and available this fall.' -

Hey Raven, what happened to your logo - and are we ever going to find out about your in game version - we have heard the backstory on every other Trainer/TF Giver - you need to demand equal rights - he seems like a cool character i want to know what he is all about - and any plans for Ravenstorm or Moonglow to get Pratoriean Counterparts - everyone else has them!!
[/ QUOTE ]
In Moonfire story it say she was a college student. Since all the trainers and TF givers are connected some how I'm betting that they both went to Witherop University or something like that. As for Preatorian conterparts, Sunice and...well Ravenshadow.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok havent heard of Sunice - whats the 411 on her?
[/ QUOTE ]
I was just trying to think of some random, but vaguely fitting name for the Preatorian version of Moonfire (The Striga TF contact). Since it's sort of an up is down dimension I just thought it would be fitting for her to be called Sunice. You know, just the total oppiste of her name. She doesn't exist, I was jsut messing around.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not true at all... all of the Praetorean counterparts have the exact same power sets, but most of their names are different. The only name that I have noticed that stays the same is Infernal. What's up with that?
[/ QUOTE ]
And Mailise. I'm not saying she would have different powers, but she's a Peacebringer. So her evil self might be Nictus infested. Another point, do the Kheldians exist on Preatorian Earth. If not then both probly wouldn't exist. Though it would make an iterestig Kheldian only mission. -

Storm Wright stared at the mad man and shook his head. I don't have time for this. He thought. He walked back to the Red River and dove in. In the water he took off his rebreather and breathed in the water and swum out to sea again. Where he ended up noone realy knows, but a grey skined man has been seen on Striga Isle not long ago. He was seen fleeing a lab and documents by a man named Dr. Joseph Deringer. To date this theft has remained a mystery.

So does Shadowhunter have a hero version of him like all the other Praetorian archvillains or did I miss that somewhere?

His hero version is the contact for the Eden Spire trail, the Woodsman.

Right now, scrappers and blasters have the powersets that best fit the natural origin: swords for scrappers (katana/broadsword)/ super reflexes, and the assault rifle/devices sets for blasters. Tankers get some very natural secondaries (axe and mace) but their primaries, all defender primaries and secondaries, and all controller primaries and secondaries seem kinda non-natural.
You can (and I have) stretch natural origins to cover every AT, by going beyond the normal human concept of natural and saying that some humans naturally have psychic powers (which gives you mind control, empathy, psychic blast, and possibly also illusion control and force fields and invulnerability); you can get it to cover every powerset by saying natural applies to natural mythical or natural alien creatures. For example I saw a natural origin yeti ice/storm controller; the same concept would work for an ice blaster or ice tank.
So maybe archery is going to defenders to give them a more purely natural alternative. Course they could've just made a defender version of AR. What about a controller version of devices? (web grenade, sticky web grenade, massive web grenade, stun grenade, group cloaking device, decoy chaff, group targeting drone, independent battle drone - kinda like illusion control really but with one invis instead of 2, 2 immobilizes like all the other controller sets, and a tactics-like insta buff instead of a toggle. decoy chaff is kinda like a single decoy, looks more like a dark fluffy, but acts like a phase shifted agro getter, shorter duration and recharge, just the one, doesn't attack. Battle drone would be kinda like a phantom/singularity cross - not healable but buffable, a couple of knockback-y blasts with decent damage, and a hold (sticky web grenade) that it throws randomly, and maybe a repel. Should look like a robotic thing (maybe auto turret graphic?) Sticky web grenade is a single target hold, stun grenade is a targeted aoe disorient. (so you'd have that one two aoe hold like combo of stun grenade and massive web grenade which is an aoe immobilize, like fire controllers combining fire cages with flashfire.) No regular aoe hold.
This proposed controller primary should work well with trick arrows secondary for the extreme natural controller
[/ QUOTE ]
Go to Talos, find a Tsoo boss called Copper Serpent and attract his aggro. Now that is all natural.
This is one of those things that bug me to no end. People automaticaly assume that to be natrual you need to be an assult rifle blaster, ax tanker, Broadsword Scrapper, etc. Natural doesn't mean you have no super powers, what it means is you earned them. They weren't part of your DNA, you weren't experimented on, you don't preform magic rituals, you don't have gears in your head. You practiced and trained yourself beyond what a normal human is capple of. from using fire blast by focusing all your mind on cause the fire to being covered in spines because you mastered a style of martial arts.

I have a question though. I was watching the DVD content with the movie ad for CoH. It shows Statesman over the course of several generations. Is it the same statesman and he's Immortal? or is it a title thats passed on under certain circomstances?

It is the same man, Statesman is immortal. Look for more details about his origin, his powers and how he is tied to Lord Recluse this fall in the upcoming novel: The Web of Arachnos.

States is immortal!?!
Well I always assumed he just aged slowly or something to that affect. -
On top of my last set of questions, is Blue Steel part of the Vindicators? All the other Vindicators are trainers, so it makes sense. I feel so sorry for Blue Steel. He's the trainer of an almost completely empty zone and doesn't even have an evil alternate dimesional clone. Poor Blue Steel.

Now that the trainers are getting expanded menus (on Test), it might be nice if a "what about this contact?" entry was one of the new choices....

Yeah, that has always bugged me. You can only get a rough idea of thier history from Preatorians and that never tells you enough. TO date I had assumed Miss. Liberty was connected to States, but I never thought she was his Sidekick. That in it's self might be an interesting story. And she can't be the first, States is over a 100 years old, how many sidekicks has he had? What were they're names? And most importantly, where are they now? I would realy like to know some of this stuff. -
Storm Wright was about to stop Tanner, persistant little bugger, when someone had done it for him. He watch the mad man get back up. "What does it take to keep you on the ground?" The mad man charged again and it was Wright's turn. He drove his fist right into the enraged man's gut and then followed up with an uppercut onthat connected with the mans chin. He acctualy stumbled backwards and Wright backed up abit putting his hands in a classic boxing gaurd postion.
"What was that about stopping you were yelling earlier?" He asked the new fighter. "If this guys a hero then I gave him a chance to tell me." He had heard someting of what the enraged man had said earlier, something about his neighbor. Wright had to wonder why he cared so much if he was a villian of any kind and the only role he could see someone like this filling was a thug. But he wasn't about to take to many more hits while they sorted it all out.
(OOC Note: I don't know why Tanner would have stopped in your post Marksman, so I filled it in. And Storm Wright hasn't seen the Troll yet, he isn't about to take his eyes off of Tanner.) -
Storm Wright stood up on the second try. He looked at the Kheldian, then at the unconsious man, and then he rubbed his bald head where the man had headbutted him. "What took you so long to help?" He asked the air and followed the Kheldian into the cave. Not very social. Wright thought as he walked into the cave. He was also annoyed he had just fought that monster to help the Kheldian and not a word of thanks. He stepped into the cave.
