Hi dudes! Just checking in to say Hi, how you doing? Getting settled back in the UK here but just not had time for CoH and Artz stuff yet! Been setting up a new business, renovating the new house and STILL not fixed my main pc yet, but soon, soon all that rubbish life stuff will be done and i can get back to the fun
And no, if you've seen some guy flying around in your town, doing good, righting wrongs, saving the ladiez, it's not me... what? It's not, honest like.... -
Wow Syrusb, wow...
That's talent I just don't have O.o -
Well, this is it! Tomorrow is our last day in Cyprus, who knows what new adventure awaits us in the UK... probably something that involves lots of rain...
Don't know exactly how long i'll be without pc or home internet, etc, but i'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunity to sit in a wifi pub with my phone and annoy you all with a random off-topic comment or two!
Cya soon. H. -

Do we have a theme for Jan at all? Time's a tickin'

maybe that could be a contributing factor to your culling exercise. I know there's artists i follow because i love their art, but i know they couldn't do Robot H3NRi justice coz it's not their style. I still love their art tho. Just saying

Swift Fist, I love the flash, he's one of my favourite characters, if this wasn't based on him, it's brilliant! If it was, it's brilliant!
St Embers, Bubba will be after you for commisions
Facilitator Mediator Initiator, .... i can't help but be intrigued...
These are great Cami, good stuffz -

Thanks Dee. I wondered if there would be suspicion that i was using DAZ4 as it's something i'm very much into at the moment. I can assure you this is painted ( i can paint also
) It's the reason i featured myself and my own bike in the picture, as it's original to me, there's no possibility of it being a DAZ product.
Infact here she is:
Incidently Dee, i don't know if you've continued with DAZ at all, but it's taught me loads about lighting and surface reflection etc, all good stuff that's applicable to 2d painting too. I've not seen you post anything 3d so thought maybe you hadn't pursued it? -
k, cool
British Hero couldn't resist the chance to show off his superspeed against this willing biker

Hmm, dust is not a valid example of age, i have some brand new dust here. I know it's brand new because i only just dusted this room last May...

i've used something like this technique before, it's really useful. I didn't use greys though, used blue for the shadows and white for the highlights and just varied the opacity of the layer i was on for depth of shadow/highlight. It's just one colour and white on top of the flats. This pic was done that way:

So are we posting entries here or in the DA page?

I think there will always be room for discussion as to what constitutes 'art'.
The more i explore 3d art, i'm finding it's probably more comparable to photographic art than traditional art. Setting the scene, correct lighting, model choice, etc, are all essential to creating a good finished piece, as Chris mentioned. And although a photographic artist does not personally 'create' the content in his pictures, in my opinion photography is certainly art.
The same could be said for such contemporary artists as Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and others who have created some of their most famous pieces from everyday pre-made objects, none of which they personally produced themselves. The art is in creating the scene.
Art appreciation will, and should, always be ruled by opinion, we're all different and we all appreciate different things. I have very few pieces of art in my own house due to the fact that my wife (who incidently is a skilled photographer) and i, although sharing the same opinion on most things in life and both being big fans of art, have such differing tastes in art that we hardly ever both like a piece enough to own it.
Be interesting to maybe start a new thread (so as not to derail from Night Hornets own artz in this thread) to discuss our tastes and opinions on different types of art as most that frequent here are interested in art at some level. -
Definately more cars yep, i didn't have any plans to do other flags but you've just given me an idea
-
i think what i'm trying to say is, i post stuff i've done so that people say, 'ooh, i like that H', or, 'ahh, H, that's not right, you need to change this'... i post for a reaction, to be noticed. All that political shite to win at the end isn't for me
-
Quote:I don't follow, dyou mean 'I think winning is a ...'I think competing is a huge component towards getting entries... Compare the FART's to the various Art Jam's we've had on the boards... The FART gets more entries and more interest.
If so i agree, people play to win, but that was awful last year (just imo). I was just trying to think of a way for everyone to have the incentive to compete, without all that **** towards the final for the big 'WIN'.
edit: seems i can't talk without the ****, lol -
Here's an idea...
Last Year Bubba worked his **** off to make a workable system, it came upon problems because everyone has a different idea of what it should be.
I dropped out just because i couldn't put the time in over the summer,, but watching the fight to win towards the end, well, it wasn't pretty, so, my idea...
Don't have a winner. But maybe publicise the thing on DA? We all have watchers, the more you post the more people look. The incentive then is to post every month because as soon as it's tagged, 'posted this as part of the 2012 FArt battle... blah blah' people think, ooh, a competition, that's a link to lots of good art... if you post it, they will come... maybe...
Just an idea, you're not competing to win, but to be seen...
prehaps? -
Quote:I'm honoured you're confusing me with CR, he's a much better artist than meI think, and CR would probably agree, you don't need a tablet to learn to draw and color. Emphasis on that learn part.
But you're absolutely right, you don't need all that stuff to learn, just something to draw with and on and you're all seti only went into tablets and stuff because Xeno mentioned he didn't ink or colour because he couldn't afford a wacom...
And @ Xeno, sorry mate, i did assume there, i should have checked your DA, (good stuff in there btw)

Quote:If you would like to see what potential you have, but don't want to spend a heap, there's a load of free or cheap stuff for the beginner.I never ink for fear I will screw it it up (and can't afford a wacom pad) thus never color I shall have to post here and see what happens
a wacom is certainly a big name in tablets, but personally i wasn't sure if digital art was for me so i bought the cheapest pad on amazon, it was less than 20 quid and i still use it now, it's great.
And for some software to do you artz digitally, i can't mention GIMP enoughIt's very similar to photoshop in most aspects with the bonus that it's completely free. http://www.gimp.org/ Then you can scan in your drawings, or draw them digitally and do what you like to them without fear of ruining the original.
Just some info if art sparks your interest, and as DD says, practice, practice, practice. You'll be amazed how quickly you start improving. gl with it mate -
Hey, thanks Ebon, though that's not the finished version, it's the first attempt with the mismatched texture map.
Here's the finished version, complete with new leather seats and improved chrome technique.
-
Heh, thanks for the vote of confidence Fireheart, appreciate it
Don't worry though, i've not abandoned the painting. 3d art and also 3d modelling is just a new area i'm exploring at the moment, just give myself a wider understanding of the digital art world i guess.
I am planning to try to enter the FArt 2012 but with moving to the UK in January, it'll depend on how time comsuming the move and getting sorted will be, and how long i'll be without internet... and when, where and even 'if' my pc turns up, lol... -
Cheers for clarifying that guys. I suspected that would be the case but just thought i'd ask
