after emailing NC Soft about why they have not communicated any information about maintenance to us. there reply is

We appreciate that it can be frustrating waiting for maintenance but please do appreciate that we cannot always say for certain when normal service will be resumed. Better that everything is running smoothly when it goes live, yes?!

---- But why not tell us about it before you take down the servers?

My broadcasts were ever few mins for about 5mins. 2 of us broadcasting from the SG. Well inside the rules that i was given by the Devs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Reading that, you can interpret it that you either broadcast your message a maximum of 2-3 times, or you broadcast it repeatedly for 5 minutes solid, with a few minutes inbetween?

    Can you clarifiy?

    [/ QUOTE ]

1 broadcast, wait a 2 or 3 mins, 1 broadcast, wait 2-3 mins 1 broadcast. that was it. Oh and my SG leader mate did a different broadcast (So it said different things) at the same time i did mine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's frequent enough to be annoying, and I would have considered that spamming.

    [/ QUOTE ]

well considering the rules the Devs gave me were 1 a second i think i was extremely kind to do one ever few mins.

What i find annoying is the constant chit chat from people who refused to use local chat when talking in the square.

And in your answer to did i get any members. around 20. from a range of lvls.

I try every single way of getting new SG members, im not that new to the game. We are a well established SG and the odd broadcast doesnt hurt.

City of Angels and HGX were doing exactly the same the other day infact.

Sorry if i sound as if im on a rant, at work and clients are frustrating me
  11. Yesterday while on the game i was in AE doing a team, asked this one person to join and he said im not teaming with you, due to the fact my broadcasts annoyed him. Fingers crossed he checks out the thread!

    Rude and for no reason.

Also about the frequency of my broadcasts after i had been petitioned i sent out a petition myself asking about those who had petitioned my and why.

The reply email i got simply said, you were petitioned because your broadcasts were in atlas, players felt i was interupting the flow of the MA broadcasting and that i had broadcast too much.
The rest of the email basically said they had ignored all the petitions due to the fact i broke no rules and they didnt see my broadcasts as interfering.

Wish i had that email still.

again people. loosing the thread here, this is not a dig at farming and MA, there is a thread on that btw

Remember we are discussing the way newbies are treated when coming to the game and how rude some player have become to these new character purely for the fact they are new to the game and ask the odd question or broadcast a little.

    Please read my first entry

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did read your OP, and I feel that the animosity that you experienced when using broadcast is directly related that fact that many people now use broadcast for farming purposes.

This has only started since the AE building appeared in Atlas. I've seen many broadcasts in Atlas over the years, with people asking players to join their SG.

I can't recall seeing a player - never mind many players - getting upset about it.

The only thing that springs to mind is the frequency that made the broadcast. How often did you make the broadcast and for how long?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didnt want to annoy anyone which is why before hand i emailed the Devs to make sure that i wouldnt be broadcasting to much.

Ok well go off topic all your want then people

I wonder what server you were on? I'm not trying to advocate one from the other and I'm only talking from my experience. I play mostly on Defiant and I find almost every player (new and vet) to be very friendly, sure there has been the occasional "idiot", however this has been a very rare event for me. I have ventured onto Union a few times (red & blue) and I was surprised by the difference. But then perhaps it's reasonable to assume that more players would provide a greater range of different personalities.

Perhaps I've just been lucky but I have to say that even when I join a team of people I don't know, usually they're all great fun people and I still think that coh has a great community. I do play everyday too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

All i will say in reply to this is...
    "the joys of union!"

I agree with Havens point about the way that new players are treated.

They should be nurtured and helped along to gain a respect for each archetype and the game as a whole.

Introduce them to things gradually rather than plunging them into the 'deep end.'

They are the life blood for this games continued existence.

Make their time a happy one and they'll subscribe for longer.

I've had mixed dealings with veteran players, on the whole most have been helpful but a couple have left me thinking 'what the heck' and 'why am I bothering.'

As for the SG broadcasting, a few of my characters need a good home. So give me some details and next time I'm on with them I'll let you know.

I'm only a casual player so it may be sometime.

    [/ QUOTE ]

@Havens is my global name. Give us a bell sometime.

    ----------

Im glad im not the only one who thinks these newbies are being treated badly. And of course me and them should ignore these idiots that insist they are better than everyone else. But of course you want to feel welcome by all on this game.

Helping lower levels along and being social to them etc, should be rewarded in some way i think. To encourage a more social and friendly game play.

I may only have been playing 2 months and a bit now but i am a rather well established player and i just see this as a shame. If i didnt enjoy the game so much i would leave due to the Vet/high level big heads.

Anyone who is interested in joining an SG that infact helps and teaches and rescues the newbies. Give us a bell. Global names above. We are a home for any player

Screw those horrid hardcore gamers and lets show them how the game should be played!
  16. loosing the train of the thread people... keep it on the subject please.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
The game used to be alot more friendly. What you now have is a bunch of vets who are unhappy with the current situation and are looking to vent it - you just gave them an excuse.

I get annoyed by alot of atlas spam, which is why those people get put on ignore. End of story. I then go about my business.

What i have noticed however is that the newbies these days seem less inclined to actually listen to good, vet advice. *turns on grumpy old man voice* Back in my day, when you were new and obviously didnt know alot about your toon and vets offered you help with making it more powerful, you noted it, went away and looked into it since you didnt want to suck. I watched with equal amazement and a twisted sense of 'car crash' as the worst fire tank ive ever seen dished abuse to all who attempted to help them fix their toon which couldnt tank S/L damage mobs which any of my scrappers would tank for brunch. Yeah, brunch, not even breakfast :P

Anyway, dont worry about the Atlas thing, people are just grumpy. As long as you arent taking the P, dont worry about it. People are idiots in real life and on the net. They just get more brave on the net because you cant see them...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes i agree there are some helpful Vets, but i would say now the majority are not willing to help what so ever anymore. I would safely say if it wasnt for a few lovely Vets that i came to my rescue i wouldnt be playing the game.

I do agree if they took the MA building out of atlas it would be fantastic, happier vets, less broadcasts flying around the place and it would give the newbies a chance to get some good help.

But, even tho we have the MA building in atlas and the Vets dont like this, there is no need for there anger at it to then be taken out on new players who just simply want a little help.

Especially when in a mish, rather than having a go at someone who is not doing very well in the mish tell them how to improve there player. Its not all about the XP.
  18. Ive just read all of your posts, and one thing keeps coming up, "ignore them".

But my whole point on this matter has nothing to do with me, i couldnt care less about those rude players. Its about the new members of the game, who sign in for the first time ask a few questions over broadcast or what have you and then are abused for the fact there new to the game and not sure what to do. They wont come back to the game after that! Unless there like me and just think "ill show you that i can be better you [censored]"

We need more new members to the game to liven it up, and to get that we need these players to be polite, bare with the newbies, and damn well help!!!
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Those people who you met are probably exactly the same in real life. You're lucky to meet them in an online game rather than having them as your boss or something.

Regarding the PvP incident, I don't see it any different from any other game where I've played PvP. It's human nature, competition gets them all fired up and if they win they get to boast and if they lose they get to cry. It's a lose-lose scenario for those who just want to play for fun and not for winning.

Broadcasting in Atlas is a whole other matter. I do admit I find it a bit annoying when people advertise farms and SGs and whatnot in there. Some people just take it too far and petition it, but they're only doing harm to themselves. You ever played a game and had someone come up to you and tell you to "giv al ur stuf or my friend he admin he ban u"? This is pretty much the same, although smaller.

Usually the perspective of veterans and hardcore players is that any SGs that are advertised in Atlas broadcast aren't worth joining which might be the root of their aggressive attittude towards the one broadcasting. I wouldn't say behavior like that does warrant it, but as I said, I probably wouldn't join an SG based on an Atlas broadcast.

Whenever playing MMOs it's good to keep in mind that just the anonymous environment of MMOs promotes this kind of behavior. There's absolutely no worry about what will happen if you start mocking someone in an MMO as long as you keep it within the rules.

    Hope that made any sense.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yup this makes perfect sense. But for a smallish SG, Atlas is the biggest place to get new members, and the odd broadcast every month or so to collect some new members never hurt anyone, am i right in saying thats the whole point in the broadcast channel?!?! (rhetorical question!!!!!)

If i wasnt broadcasting for new members occasionally just adding people via teaming together and sending tells would take a life time to catch up to those SGs that have been around from the beginning.

What these hardcore players must realise is its not a game they rule over. Its a game for everyone and a strong strong enfaces on the word GAME!!!
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Some people just seem to have issues with everything, and if you let it get you down you'll never enjoy life. It's just words and if you're not breaking the rules they can [censored] all they want but it won't change owt. Cheer up lad we're not all [censored]s.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey thanks for your replys, ill reply to each separately.

These people dont bother me, that is why i am still playing.

But for example, someone new buys the game logs into Atlas for the first time (got help them!) and stumbles across these kind of players like i did, they are much more unlikely to then go renew there subscription at the end of the month after that kind of welcome are they?!

Thats why i made my SG every day we hunt down these new players and teach then how to play and help them out. so they have a good gaming experience.
  21. In another one of my posts, i was discussing how a long time player royally kicked me up the backside at PvP, and was to be honest extremely rude and offensive to me, purley for the fact i was new to the game, and wasnt so good at the PvP.

Ever since the first days of when i joined this game i was astonished at how many long time players or high lvl toons just took it upon themselves to be rude and very unwelcoming to me as a new character just for asking the odd question, or making a mistake (like running into the wrong mob), or the odd broadcast too many. This is a social game is it not?

For example, the other day, broadcasting my SG in Atlas for new members, now firstly... i didnt break a single broadcasting rule, as i emailed the Devs first to ask about the rules. And yes its a farming location, but also the most popular location on the game and i got so many new happy members to my SG.

But.. id say 1 maybe 2 minutes into the game one of my friends who understood the fact i was promoting my SG told me that at least a good 10 people had petitioned against me in Atlas (again, i had broken no rules and was not overly broadcasting), next thing i know i have abuse coming at all angles, all from long time players having a go at me.

Im sitting at home thinking blimey, a few broadcasts and i get this... what a lovely bunch of people i am playing with on this game. A nice tell from someone to say please could you keep the broadcasts down would of been nice and polite, dont you think?

Of course there are plenty of lovely people playing the game that are great.

But come on people, those of you that im talking about, buck up your ideas, be friendly no wonder no new people play the game.

    Rant over! Comments please!
  22. what the players want the will eventually get. they have to make there money and please there customers!
  23. ahhh the Devs, got them set on me and some others the other day for broadcasting about more costume slots etc in atlas square (all had our protest boards out). thats what caused that zombie raid hahaa
  24. [ QUOTE ]
If you want to try another set, you better start from level 1 as all sets have their good and bad parts. So having a level 50 which you don't have any clue about is not nice.

As your areas and badges, you will have all badges (other than anniversary one) in time and you will enter those areas when you meet their level range.

    So, I say no.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well i do have a clue about it now. Its just when you first start playing you choose your character thinking darn i have no idea what im doing then you get lvling and eventually realise, rubbish this was not the powers i hoped for. Now im a rather experienced player i could easily look up on the net or make a toon and get the power sets i want as i know all about them.

But the frustration is id like to keep my 50 but just change my power sets.

Not my fault that being new to the game meant a lack of understanding on the power sets and now i must either suffer the failings of being newbi or start a new toon from scratch again.

This happened about two weeks ago. We had 50 lvl SSTF team. We played about 3 mission when one player suddenly said "it was fun, bye..." Everybody was like what? Probably that player missed the whole idea of playing taskforce. Example of worst thing of AE magick.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not really a good example that player could easily had a million good reasons for going in a hurry. As all must remember, its only a game.
