Quote:If your argument is the pricing/recharge then I can hit even better defensive numbers as I switch out purples. That is nice if you have the influence for the Purples, and the PvP IOs. I have used Purples before and they drain end like no tomorrow yes the recharge was nice but it did not do any good when I had no end, plus they are expensive, not to mention you only had 4 KB prot, Go with fin Idea its way better build for cheaper cost.
Edit: Just noticed OP, "In theory, cost isn't a barrier, as I'll just keep on saving up the Inf to get the next piece, bit by bit, til I have what comes out of suggestions, so I'm looking for the top-end suggestions." So any argument about cost is void.
The 4kb is an oversight caused by speed building and takes 2 seconds to fix.
As someone with two DM/FA toons (Brute & Scrapper) I did not encounter the end problems you seemed to. Actually, based on my experience with DM/FA, I would argue MORE recharge not less. Almost all your best tools are on timers that benefit greatly from 'MOAR-SP33D!'. Think Regen and not Willpower. -
One of Dark Melee's strengths is a strong single target attack chain. This depends on DPA. I recommend picking up all three quick single target punches and dropping Shadow Maul as it'll slow down your ST DPS.
Removing Shadow Maul guts any feeble AOE you we're planning on doing with Dark Melee but you can do better AOE by picking up Mu Mastery anyway. AOE is Dark Melee's biggest drawback so I highly recommend any APP that fills in that gap (which Energy Mastery does not do).
You shouldn't need as much base recovery as other toons as you have two aoe end recovery powers available to you.
I have done a quick-n-dirty build that shows my suggestions.

Quote:It may seem that someone is being selfish (I assume you're referring to ultrawatt) when they don't post their own build, it may even be true (I am not saying it is ultrawatt), but it is not the ONLY reason avoid posting a personal build.I am a bit confused...why would someone not be willing to share a build of theirs? It seems the only reason would be for PvP purpose, which is a miniscule concern. Other then that it seems like you're just being oddly selfish about something that would have no direct effect to your ability to enjoy the game.
One 'good' reason not to post a build is to avoid un-wanted/un-needed nerf hammers. If you've figured out a way to push a particular combination into realms of performance (without a perceived 'balancing' drawback) that'll make people jealous you can, inadvertently, cause harm to the combination as a whole by inciting a 'balancing' nerf. If your 'secret-formula' stays with you and doesn't proliferate then there is no need for a global change as your build is an anomaly and not the norm.
There are many other reasons as well but I thought I'd give you at least that one. -
I know ultrawatt but I am bored and feel like number-crunching for the 'optimal' PvE SS/FA. Its a 'One Build to rule them all' kind of thing. Plus I enjoy seeing what other, perhaps more creative folk, come up with.

Sounds like you had fun BeornAgain. Glad to hear it!

Good to see all the same ole Regen issues migrating to the 'Brute Squad'
My DM/Regen was one of my first 50s, one of the easiest rides to 50, and one of the quickest abandoned to obscurity once I got her there. Its that early ramp-up of perceived 'power' that makes Regen a fun ride but leaves some players feeling left behind performance-wise at the level-cap (see ascii graph below, Regen is 'o', most others are '+'). Its just alot easier/cheaper to do 'epic' things with the other more layered sets. Just my 2-bits.
Code:^ | + | | | + | o | + o P o O o + W o + E o + R o + | o + | o + | o + | o + | o + | o + | o+ |o +------LEVELS------------------------->

Thanks for showing your build Syntax42. It always helps to see how others are doing it.

Quote:Unfortunately you were right about the Performance Shifter proc not working in attacksDoesn't seem bad on ST, Rage will help you hit even with Kinetic Combats' low acc and Punch/Hay have low recharge already.
You could raise your defs overall by removing one slot from Blazing Aura and slotting weave better, or losing 5% rech and slotting BA with 3 eradications (triple, quad, damage) and a 50 dam/end from some set. I might be mistaken but I don't think the PF proc gives you end from attacks.
I made some changes (like your BA suggestion) and ended up with less recharge but more e/ne def and more recovery.

The Brute Community seems well versed in creating specialized SS/FA builds to accomplish many of the PvE tasks available to us (farming, solo TFs, etc.) but I was wondering what the 'best' generalized PvE build might look like. The build that could do everything at least 'second-best' to a specialized build.
You can find my attempt below (please ignore power order and slotting levels, I started off a Neogumbercules build).
I think it will farm well but think it may be a bit ST light for say Solo MoITF and is missing Taunt and stacked stealth.

Build I'd love to see (but don't think exists):- Over 100% global recharge
- Defense one purple away from soft-cap (or higher) to s/l & e/ne (before Veng)
- Capped fire resist & sm/lt resist 50%+
- Taunt
- Stacked stealth or Invis
- Vengeance
- Good with hard single-targets
- Good AOE/farmer
- Min 12pt KB protection

Quote:SKYeXi1e,I'm making a SS/fire/MU build for PvE and farming. I seem to be having end issues though, are you guys all running cardiac?
Im using spiritual it would probably be fine, except for the crashes.
this is my current build, though it still needs further slotting. i do plan to put luck of the gambler +recharge in combat jumping, maneuvers and weave.
but i did use the build in BAF and farming and i struugle with end, even with only 4-5 toggles on granted i will have more recharge for consume when i slot luck of the gamber, but still.
The following build is similar to yours but I get 35.8% S/L Defense, 98.75% Global Recharge & propose slotting Performance Shifter:Chance for +END into Ball Lightning and Electric Fences. I imagine this would be a good all-around build but could use some feedback from the SSFA community as I am not currently running this toon.
Caveats: No travel power. Only 8 KB protection. Wanted Vengeance in Build.
Alternate: You can drop Leadership pool for Concealment pool & add in Super Speed to get a travel+stacked-stealth and still keep the same numbers.

Quote:I did. But thanks for reminding me anyway!Just remember when you are adding in epics Mace is going to have redraw to deal with. It's likely what makes Claws not beat out SS in high end builds. Not that you didn't.
The numbers are below. I put ** when I was hitting less than the target-cap for a power. If you were hitting all the targets possible @ the damage cap the order would be Claws > Mace > SS. If you modify the targets hit to reflect realistic expectations the order would be Claws > SS > Mace. I don't show it below but the magic number you need to pull ahead of SS on Mace is 8 out of 10 targets hit with Crowd Control.

Thanks for the input Seril.
Quote:I just did a spreadsheet and agree with the above.Mace has two useful AoE powers that fit into a typical AoE chain just like Claws does. However, Eviscerate and Spin beat out Mace's parallels (Crowd Control and Whirling Mace respectively) in damage. The extra third of a second on Eviscerate's cast time does not give Mace the edge, given Eviscerate does roughly a third more damage than Crowd Control. Spin activates .16ish seconds faster than Whirling Mace and severely outclasses it in damage. Build Up won't make up for the gap in damage between the two power sets' attacks.
Based on my spreadsheet this is both true and false. Under optimal conditions (meaning hitting all targets of your AOE attacks and @ damage-cap) Mace would out-damage SS but Claws would still beat them both. If you adjust your targets-hit to reflect a more common result (as Bill has done with his Eviscerate numbers) Mace falls behind by around 100 dps.
I have. It is slower. But if that was my sole worry I would only roll Claws/FA or DB/FA. -
Quote:*** All my statements reference Fiery Aura Brutes only ***This. DB and Claws are king for the low level maps. SS is king of the higher stuff. */fire is going to work the best overall. Anything with a damage aura will work on a S/L level 2-3 map even if it's slower than Claws, or DB. You want to self PL a SS/elec? Make a level 2-3 S/L ambush farm and there you go. The beauty of a level 2-3 map is that you can build a normal non-farm build for it and it still works.
I understand the prevailing logic is that 'SS is king of the higher stuff'. I also understand why Claws and DB are good at the lowbie maps and are a smoother ride to 50. But, by my observation, Mace 'should' be just as good as Claws and DB on the way to 50 (the dmg auras do more dmg in 1-3 maps than the aoes do) and Mace should be close to SS at 50 due to more AOEs, more Oblits, more +Rech IOs, excetera.
The arguments for SS superiority I expect would be:
The greater AOE radius on Foot Stomp.
Rage.
My counter-points to those reasons would be:
The greater radius just makes it 'easier' not 'better'. Foot Stomp still has a cap of 10.
Rage is only helpful when below the damage-cap and is a hinderance when your at the damage-cap.
I'm looking for some logical/factual arguments as to why my assumptions are invalid. -
This sounds amusing even as I write it but, arguments about aoe radius aside, why wouldn't Mace/Fire be a contender? No KB like in some Claws attacks, more farm-usable AOEs than either Claws or SS, can slot 2 +rech IOs in AOEs instead of the 1 SS does (cuz you aint slotting it in Hand Clap), and room for more Oblits.
Can someone (who is better than me) show me an optimized build/attack-chain for Mace/Fire (like BillZBubba does, arcana time, etc.) so I can objectively compare?
I know I must be 'wrong' since it IS Mace but, for the life of me, I can't see why farming wouldn't be a reason to roll a Mace (scary).
