I'll hopefully catch you guys up at some point, have managed to get to lvl7 already via 'conventional' teaming.
So far what seems to be the 'best' time of day to team as a unit? -
Have people who have started this made a supergroup to house the members? Would be an easy way of keeping track of those toons who are like minded.
If you have or are going to it might be worth posting the SG name and leader(s) here in this post so people, when they come accross this thread can find you easier in-game. I say this cos I'm well up for it -
In short if you have a nuke - for goodness sake use it. I've been in big teams where I seem to be the only one 'letting one off'
(oh, and btw Inferno is the best - shame defenders can't get it) -
All nukes are fun and depending on the team have different effects. The best 3 IMO (and because I havent seen the others used that much) are;
Nova (from energy) Activate it by standing in the middle of a group of foes and hitting the button, bang! If you dont have the enemy nailed to the floor they will go flying in all directions due to its knockback.
Thunderous Blast (from elec) Activate it by targeting a foe and hitting the button, good because you dont have to be in the middle of the bad guys. You will rarely floor foes with full health however you will drain those you hit of a fair amount of endurance. I would suggest that its slotted with more endurance modifiers than damage however that it pure opinion.
Inferno (from fire) Activate it by standing in the middle of a group of foes and hitting the button, pop! If you didnt have the mobs aggro before then you will now should you not floor them, does damage over time.
Each have their situational advantages, not to mention the ones I havent highlighted, and if you have more than 1 nuke in the team then the Nova should always go last if you plan to double nuke. In theory I would guess that the Thunderous blast should go first however unless done with perfect timing (or a fully taunted group) it doesnt make too much of a difference and it can have a minor scattering effect because its ranged (i.e. the group move towards you).
In short, and with no other outside factors, TB then Inferno then Nova (although you wont need all 3).
To get the best from your nuke ensure that as many of the following are done before you let off;
The enemy are as densely packed into the smallest flat area as possible A taunting character (Tank/Brute) will do this best.
The enemy are de-buffed.
You are buffed by a combination of inspirations, team buffs and self buffs. (A smarties selection of inspirations wont hurt especially Reds and purples)
The outcome will vary however should result in many arrests/deaths when this is the result smile to yourself or celebrate in some other way youll certainly get praise for a good nuke (dont tell them that without all the buffs, de-buffs and aggro management it would have been half as spectacular instead lavish yourself in their worship, for good reason see below)
Outcomes however can (not too often but can) result in a faceplant (especially for the Inferno) when this is the result smile to yourself youll certainly get a lot of nice aggro management Guff or simple lol.
As the caster of either a Inferno or Nova you will always have a best friend with anyone who has the good powers from the the Kinetics set. A Fulcrum Shift right before the nuke usually helps flatten the lot plus Transference and Transfusion will both keep you alive and with the ability to hit back quick. Either that or pop a blue and get your defensive toggles on between popping greens. Over all running away after a nuke doesnt work too well maybe with the exception of the Nova, in my experience, staying put so your team members can regain the aggro from you, heal you and buff you are made so much simpler when the mobs are still standing focused on one spot rather than running after you which usually makes the healers job three times as hard. In short dont be a coward you caused this mess now you stay and take responsibility for it. In my opinion youre average survival is no different however staying will benefit the team and could turn a potential team wipe into victory. -
Fire/Fire can be played in so many ways - I only took 4 of the secondary set (Ring of fire, Fire sword, Build up & Consume) and all of the primaries, means I can solo OKish and team for the most fun I've had in CoX so far. I prefer the 8 man team where I usually have 3 attack cycles;
1st group, pop a red & yellow (if I have them) select central target, BU+Aim run towards the group and Fireball, jump into the middle and Inferno before the BU+Aim wares off, pop a blue and consume, hasten and toggles (if anyone is left standing) (don't fireball if there is a fulcrum shift going, stand in the mob and pray you don't get mezzed until you hit the inferno)
2nd group, select the center most boss/lieu, BU+Aim, Fireball, fire breath, rain of fire, maybe snow storm in there too (from cold epic), Fireball, pray, fire breath, single melee/range attacks while shouting Die die die! at the screen, apologise to the wife and explain that gaming isnt making you aggressive, pop a green cos the explanation to the wife cost you too much time not activating powers, pray, ..
3rd group, (required for fast teams) Throw in a few fire balls and fire breaths and let someone else earn the xp for once. Longingly look at the progress of Inferno thanking your previous wisdom for 3 slotting recharge on it, tell your team that your nuke is ready and smile to yourself - you can't help it, you're having too much fun!
I duo'ed my fire/fire for the first 35 levels and actually respeced flares into the build (in place of combustion) and have never looked back - more useful for smaller teams and soloing however I still use it plenty whatever state I'm in.
I have no end reducers on any of my primary/secondary powersets, I usually find a fair team covers for any end issues.
The most fun, in my experience with this build, is in big teams where the foe are a sea of Red & Purple AoE heaven.
Despite what people say about flooring the whole group you will nearly always get aggro from somewhere if the team is good you'll ignore the oncoming mobs and save your end however fire sword and fire blast have been my friends for a long time. Never really had need for aura style attacks, I dont even see Fire sword circle being all that useful (to me). The only time I get into the middle of a group is for inferno, the rest of the time Im close to the fringe selecting the best targets for my next Fireball and/or Fire breath.
A Kinetics defender or trolley will be your friend as well as a good empath who shares out the forts to non-scrappers too. Playing this build has taught me that debt is the best part of the game, while you have it you get to enjoy the toon for twice as long Im sad that mine turned 49 today and that Ill shortly be playing an alt cos the sense of achievement has dwindled. I therefore plan to finish his heroing with plenty of unannounced nukes just so that last level lasts as long as possible. Long live Bumguffy! -
You have me all wrong, if I ever get the time I can't wait to try as many of the other defender powersets as possible. If I had to choose a favorite AT then Defender it would be by a mile.
Judging by my number of posts you can tell I'm a nOOb right? Therefore would someone please tell me what 'teh' stands for, I thought it was a typo but seeing it so often now I'm not so sure. -
Empaths unappreciated? Don't think so. I usually have to tell others to stop thanking my pure empathy defender, still telling them at level 38.
In my opinion there is not enough 'Wow - great blasting....' bla bla bla
Guffette will continue to Guff out heals and buffs in defiant until it stops being fun. Not sure its gonna happen
