    Deviant Roster!

Yesterday I finished my first Hero art, so, um, does that qualify me? The rest of my posted work is just traditional art though.

    Grave Enigma

Quite a huge list by-the-way. Nice work.
  2. She looks outstanding!
As I've noted on the DA comments, I'm digging the colors and the motion with your dynamic pose...
    Great 8, as always.
  3. Happy birthday Celtic!

That is the coolest gift TA... the expression on CB is priceless.

    Awesome pic, Grave !
    Really awesome !

    I appreciate the encouragement Spino.
It's an odd feeling to be done with my first project in a year though... no idea what painting to start next.

    Looks that Kill

Thanks guys, this was the first time I've broken Painter out in years, so I'm glad you like it

Soul Train - yea I chose the lightning because I wanted to play with ambient light sources. The green crystals were planned to give off a glow too, but it didn't go with the other two colors (orange and purple).

    Looks that Kill

During lunch I was trying to finish this Painting for Katfood, and was shocked to realize Vince Neil was shouting the perfect theme music in my ears (Looks that Kill... she's a cool cool kat... she'll slice you apart...). The program crashed before I could save the full hour of work, but I did finish moments ago.

I doubt anyone remembers the WIP of Kat in December, I found so little time to paint it seemed futile to post more updates.
  7. Great artwork and congrats on the millions

    Not to offend.

    [ QUOTE ]
Well, Grave, discussing does not naturally mean getting "worked up."
    That would be arguing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Generally anyone starting a conversation stating I don't mean to offend you is looking for an argument. It may have been taken as a taunt, based on the first several comments.

You have my take on the matter... back to art for me.

Someone print out a pic of Feral Kat and go! Please! :P

    Fixed that for you.

It's still in my scraps - the world isn't ready for it yet

    What's to discuss?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm with Hex's first reply. Why should anyone get all worked up over this?

The monk wasn't tortured. He willingly made a martyr of himself for the exposure it would create. Thus, his death became his legacy. If it's in poor taste to remember him burning, he would have done it in the privacy of his temple, without mobs of bystanders or cameras (you think the reporter was there on accident?) around.

I wouldn't throw stones at a person creating this alt weather they are Budist, Christian or Mooney. After all, the monk intended his name (and sacrificial act) to live beyond 1963...

Having said that, I don't think I'd enjoy playing the character.

Plus, there's a certain amount of prestige to having your own site. Wjen I send art directors to my online art, it's just better to send them to a place where that's all they see.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's hard to look more professional than MyName.com too. It shows a commitment to your art and a memorable address for future reference.

Gratz on getting a new web host.
  12. Grave_Enigma

    Um....Anyone?

    [ QUOTE ]
I've posted this before, but it remains helpful and true.

    [ QUOTE ]
anyway, if you want art of your character (I really should make a quick guide for this) here is a list of ways to get it:
<ul type="square"> [*] First regardless what type of pieces you are having done, you need a site to upload your screenshots and images. I personally use www.photobucket.com for my reference shots since it's free to get an account and I can manage and directly link to my images. There are many other free image upload sites out there, just find the one that works for you.
[*] next you need to have decent reference shots. Below are examples of both bad and good:
+ VERY BAD!!! Make sure there aren't any powers running on you that would get in the way of your costume. Also don't take it at night, the darkness effect makes everything dark blue and harder to see.
+ Bad but workable... This still doesn't give us a close-up view of the costume and certainly doesn't give us multiple angles to work with.
+ Good and very workable! This gives us multiple angles of shots, cropped (in MSPaint) from a screenshot like the previous example, and then added all together into one image. Still we could do better such as the next example.
+ Ideal Reference Shot! To get this kind of shot do the following: go to the tailor on your character and opened the desired costume. Get your first angle shot ready and hit the printscreen key. Next you'll want to open up MSPaint (or any other image editor) and paste into a new document. Do this until you have 3-4 shots and then crop out the unnecessary parts and organize them like in the example.
+ This is crazy ideal, and pretty unnecessary! If it's important to you go ahead and do this with all your character's costumes, but you better off doing each costume individually as a separate file (more web-user friendly that way). [*] Next you'll want to browse through the Art Forums here. There are many people that do free art and sketches for practice, most of the time nothing extraordinary, but good work never-the-less. Browsing through threads here also lets you see what people have commissioned ($paid for$) talented artists to do for them.[*] Commission a piece from an artist, ask around in this forum if you are having trouble finding artists that work for your price range. Regluars like Rowr and Thor's Assassin, will be more than happy to help you out. Also browsing through someone's DeviantArt friends and favorites list will give you good idea of the artists out there.[*] The most important thing that will score you art here is becoming an active member of our art community. Frequently posting and engaging in friendly conversation is what I mean by "active" member. We're a very friendly and welcoming community here, and anything extra you bring with you will be happily accepted by us. Also we are such compliment whores here! [/list]

    Finally Deviant

    Welcome DJ!

I'll add you to my watch list as soon as I'm home... curse the IT thugs for blocking Deviants at the office - how are we supposed to pass the time

As Jugg said, I'm sure you'll find yourself flooded with fans. People will find you by seeing your paintings in other peoples' favorites - then the landslide will get to you.

    when is the deadline?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's what I want to know. XD

    [/ QUOTE ]

It seems no deadline was set in this thread, but with two issues left it must be close.

I hope if I get my Feral Kat done and shipped this week it's soon enough.

    "Drakuu"

Glad I saw Drakuu last night while browsing DA (they block it here at work).

You did a fantastic job on the tatoos, so good in fact I wondered if you were working from a 3D modeling render. The deep shadows really help to make them shine.

I dare say this is the best I've ever seen of Photoshop Elements.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Alright here's another update, decided to start putting this stuff on my website vs deviant or photobucket, I have more control over how it is presented and stuff!

    Update and Process

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for showing the progression. It's nice to see how other artists toss the pieces together.

I'm really liking the shaded version and the background is looking great!

BTW - I feel your pain regarding the Artist SG. After vowing to finish some art worthy of posting, I got addicted to gameplay once again - just when I thought I had it under control
  17. I really like the depth of field effect you've done with the focus on his left arm. Your highlights look great, but you might try a few spots of darker shadow in his skin tones. That would really make the arms and neck "pop".

Dont know how I missed this one. Awesome Job 8baller. Seems your skill on paper matches your skill ingame, good stuff!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks man. It was fun running around with you guys last night, if even for a short bit.

And, there's no paper involved (I don't think they make an eraser big enough), I work all digital tablet-style. It just seems easier these days.

Typically I'll do the rough sketching process in Alias Sketch only because I really like the 'feel' of it. Inking is a toss up right now between Sketch and Photoshop, but all the coloring is done in Photoshop.

    Thanks again,
    8

    [/ QUOTE ]

The drawing looks great 8! I really like your tight linework and looseness of her pose. As much as I like breasts, I won't get all hung up on perfect symmetry - I'm sure everything will smooth out in the final stages. Can't wait to see the colors...
    Is this a commission piece?

That was a fun team last night, glad you could join us.

It's easy enough to use the alt+spacebar to rotate in painter, I wish the rotate in photoshop was as good, but in photoshop, you're actually rotating the image which depending on the size can take some time to process. But I like that idea!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Alt+Space FTW!
I never work on my paintings square with the world. I've not played in Photoshop much in part because the rotating it is so important to me, and the pixels would distort with each canvas rotation if I did.

Question, since wading through pages of responses is difficult...can the OP edit the original post to include the server and SG name? Saves wading through pages of posts to find the info

My BF and I will be rolling toons to join the SG if there's room...I'm the artist, he's an art collector

    [/ QUOTE ]

I second the notion of an OP edit... In addition to mentioning Envisionaries SG on Liberty it would help to include a contact name. Also someone suggested we include a web-address to our gallery in each bio. Those sort of suggestions might be helpful to also include in the OP.

    FYI

You can only edit a post for a limited amount of time. I don't know exactly how long, but it is something like an hour...not the days that this thread has been here. The OP cannot be edited. Now, that doesn't mean there can't be an updates version posted here in the thread.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks Kat, I was wondering about the time limit but figured the thread was still fairly new

    The art SG ?

    [ QUOTE ]
I think having ALL the info in one place is a gooder idea, personally. Now, if we updated all the major info every couple of pages or so, well, I think that might be a good plan.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That could work. If vital info was bolded or colored, it could be easily seen by anyone scrolling through.

Also, Aerones is now in charge of upgrading our fire insurance!
