  1. Since we've begun talking about names, I've just reserved Aqua Viva ("Living Water") over on Justice.

That statement pretty much sums up the whole conversation. PvP came some time after launch with the introduction of the arenas. It was fun sometimes, but because ATs were not balanced against each other, there were situations where Arcetype A would almost always beat Archetype B, but B would almost always beat C. "Rock-Paper-Scissors" gameplay at its finest, which discouraged a lot of folks.

Things could have been improved when City of Villains launched and we actually had faction vs faction in open-zone PvP. In the end, though it pretty much remained "Rock-Paper-Scissors" with the occasional Stalker gank thrown in for variety. Now, I will say that PvP in this game was fun during the CoV beta, where you had tons of people fighting all across the PvP zones. Sadly, the numbers just couldn't be sustained once CoV went live.

As for the "Issue 13" thing people refer to: It was actually intended to be the start of a long-term overhaul of PvP to make it far less reliant on the luck of which AT you have vs that of the person you're fighting. A major part of this overhaul was to implement a second form of power balance that only worked in PvP; it was either that or majorly change how the game was played for the vast majority who didn't engage in PvP. The problem was that the existing PvP community at the time was FAR from helpful. In fact, instead of helping to test things out and provide constructive feedback, most either trolled, actively raged, or just crossed their arms and demanded their old PvP back.

As a result, the dev team became far less willing to make PvP a high priority with regard to the devotion of time and resources. Combine that with the "Ultra Mode" graphics overhaul, Going Rogue, the conversion to the Freedom hybrid F2P model, and the departure of the former lead power designer who spearheaded the proposed long-term PvP overhaul, and you've got what PvP is in CoH today. It exists, and may occasionally get a bone thrown to it. But barring some miracle, it's likely not going to be revisited in any significant manner.

Bug. It should be "Master of Ms. Liberty Task Force". Expect it to change.

Yet Ms. Liberty is there in I.P. Guys Removing Statesman the way it was done is Like umm... a pb and j sammich with no Bread. When other Devs Left they were not obliterated By dev community. Sorry Posi i do not agree with this move. If you look at top cow comics Overshadowing all when the game came out I.e. The comic was a promo release who is there larger than life...not Ms. Liberty ....I mean this is like Star Wars Missing 1 of its key Characters.
If the current dev team wanted to remove Statesman out of any sort of ill-will toward Jack Emmert, they'd have done so long ago. They've said as much. Also, all things must eventually change. Getting rid of Statesman and Sister Psyche shows that the current dev team is willing to make lasting, impactful changes in order to advance the game lore.

Or a Better theory, Star Trek without any of its famous Captains...Lets just take Fred (generic name inserted) and stick him there( Fred Could also be a her with a bad case of 5 pm shadow). Hate to say it guys ya killed Kirk without doing the torch pass to Picard. All in All ,,,not good
One of the ideas behind offing States and Psyche is to further shift the focus onto the player characters. Regardless of what their bios may say, all hero PCs have been living in the shadow of Statesman and the Freedom Phalanx since day 1. Now, that shadow isn't cast nearly as wide.

That's sort of the problem. We saw 1 patch that attempted to fix it (it did not) but they never tried to tweak the actual mission numbers for folks to test.
Doing it in waves would be a traditional fix, and also probably the quickest. But the dev(s) behind the mission obviously wanted the encounter to have a bit of an "epic" feel, thus the massive presence at Tyrant's doorstep. Question is: Do they want to sacrifice that "epic" feeling for the sake of easier playability (given that it can currently be completed, albeit slowly), or do they plan on leaving it as-is and looking for alternative solutions?

YES! Because it's SO easy to identify and correct problems that may or may not be correctable via traditional methods (for example: lessening the chance that AoEs will overload the mapserver while still making Arachnos seem like they've brought sufficient force to bear against Tyrant).

How long did it take for the lag in the ITF to get fixed without reducing the number of mobs? Because that's sort of the same thing we're looking at with this mission.

Bingo. Praetorian Marcus Cole is a man who traded in his principles in an attempt to preserve the greater good and save humanity. As I've invoked many times in relation to him, "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions".

Of course, some members of our community don't see that because to them, if you're not a paragon of morality, you're just a dirty villain.

  10. Just wondering if any news, hints, or teasers came from the devs' mouths. Any lore stuff, as well.

IRL, I'm a fine, upstanding member of my community who regularly donates to and is involved with charitable causes, and lives life by the golden rule. Doesn't mean that in-game, I can't be a slightly-unhinged cybernetic abomination obsessed with mechanical perfection, who has no qualms with "lending" his services to those parties who make the best offers.

FREE PRINCESS HAT! WHO DOESN'T LIKE FREE COSTUME PARTS?!

Did you not read the entire thread?

I started off with a stupid post wherein I mockingly demanded "gender equality" because of one little free hat. Then GG responded. Then I responded to her. Etc., etc. A Prince (His Royal Badness) reference was made.

I may find GG's black-and-white sense of morality rather naive. I may find her occasional outbursts of "FEMINISM YAY!" to be annoying. I may find her need to always try to appear right, even if all she has is a single word response and a , to be particularly grating. But I've never singled her out for any reason other than to counter a statement she's made. Believe me, there are some posters here who take every opportunity to verbally attack GG; I'm absolutely not one of those posters.

And if you couldn't tell that my last post to her wasn't serious, your sarcasm detector is more than broken, my friend. I'm not even sure you have one!

Anyways: FREE PRINCESS HAT THAT IS APPARENTLY SLIGHTLY OFF-THE-MARK BUT IT'S FREE YAY!

If it's the same bug we had when beta started, the work-around is to never use two AoEs in a row. There's something about the AoEs' particle effects that swamps the server or swamps the connection or something.
It wasn't so much "fixed" as it was "lessened". It's definitely not as bad as it was during early beta, but it's unfortunately still not good enough.

Perhaps I'll find a nice secluded cave somewhere and become a hermit as punishment for being so soundly trounced by your superior logic.

It has NOTHING to do with the fact that I need to be up again in four hours. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

  20. Ah, I see that wanting to have a wider variety of costume options (which there's nothing inherently wrong with) and wrapping it in the guise of "gender equality" in order to make it sound like you're being discriminated against has roots far back in history.

    I STILL WANT THAT HAT.

CONVERSELY, IF THAT ISN'T LOGISTICALLY POSSIBLE, I WANT THE PRINCESS HAT MADE AVAILABLE FOR MALE AND HUGE TOONS. IF TIME PERMITS.

That's Penelope Yin. She's grown up now and is an honest-to-goodness super-hero. She has a bunch of different psychic powers, including some from Psychic Melee, a speculated forthcoming set.
