Yea defo something that needs to be put into place cos i feel the villains are too nice in co-op zones when really we'd be looking for any oppotunity to bump off our rivals or get away with something valuble. Would be difficult to pull off successfully but be really good if heroes and villains got different objectives or villains got side ones like "make sure the heroes are defeated at least 10 times" or something for a bonus...course the heroes would get the bonus if they dont die more than 10 times...
Thats just an example, my brain is still in recovery.

There could be morphing scenery too, just like in RV.
Like say it was a medieval zone, with a castle and a town and a forst and some farms - and there was some source of evil that was causing trouble in the area, with demons or werewolves or things like that, and it was the heroes task to locate and destroy this source, and it was the Villains task to protect it with a view to harnessing its power themselves.
Every 30 minutes or so, the game would add up the Villain mission successes and the hero mission successes, and the landscape would change a bit to reflect whoever had won that pahse - like if the Villains were winning, and succeeding in protecting the source of the evil, then you'd see a farm or two abandoned, or even parts of the town too, and more of the demons/monsters roaming about - but if the Heroes were winning, and succeeding in getting closer to the source of the evil, then the monsters/demons would be reduced in number, and the forest (where the source of the evil would probably be located) would become more wholesome looking. -

No comment - though there are good reasons I haven't played an MM since I7 and you're getting fairly close to one of them
[/ QUOTE ]
Can't you just use the taser power to herd them? -

[ QUOTE ]
That'd be quite possible - if you're a Villain, then you can easily betray the Midnight Squads trust when they let you use their crystal to travel back in time.
[/ QUOTE ]
We actually have the option to betray them even before that, but of course you wouldn't know...
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd heard rumors about it
Of course, any betrayl has to be done secretly, otherwise Villains wouldn't be able to be given any new Midnighter content
-
[ QUOTE ]
I'd like the villains to join with whoever is being evil in another time tho, earn some sort of bonus like the pvp areas or something...
[/ QUOTE ]
That'd be quite possible - if you're a Villain, then you can easily betray the Midnight Squads trust when they let you use their crystal to travel back in time.
For example, say there was some dangerous and powerful artifact that the Midnighters discovered was in this particular time period, and they sent Heroes and Villains there to get it - but unknown to the Midnighters, Lord Recluse had also heard of this item, and sent his most powerful servants there to retreive it (Aracnos being involved would have to be unknown to the Midnighters, otherwise they might not trust Villains enough to be sent on this mission).
Once Villains had travelled via the crystal to the new zone, they could then get missions from their Patron whp would be in the zone too - these Villain only missions would involve you betraying the Midnight Squad to help you Patron instead. -

If Nemesis went back to the Middle Ages, he'd be like a wizard-knight or an alchemist-knight to the people of that time - but for us, he'd still be the AV we've been fighing in the present.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you talking about some kind of Gotham by Gaslight/ElseWorlds or Marvel 1880s Universe? that would be rather charming, seeing a steam-powered Positron or Sister Psyche as a Gypsy fortune teller - something like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, I mean more how people of the time would interpret someone like Nemesis if he showed up - his armor makes him look a bit like a knight, and his machines would be thought of as some kind of magic or alchemy. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ok, Polearms... once they're in does that mean it would be easy to re-use the animations to give me a cattle prod powerset?

Post-ED, there's no place like moan
But back to the sci-fi fantasy thing - I could see there might be some who'd have a problem if we were going back in tiem and fighing totally unrealted threats to the present day - but by making present day villains travel back in time, it helps keep the continuity of the larger battle.

If you take on time-travelling, dimension-hopping supervillains, you should be prepared fopr the fact that some of your fights may not take place in a modern-day Ameircan city

Yea Kang travelled the boundries of time plenty and I kinda see him as nemesis (probably brothers) but I'm on the same wavelength prefer some sort of rich background story rather than "lets go back in time and stop the naughty black knight"...(if the naughty black night was black scorpion then fair do's).
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah - it's like with Cimerora - as you play through the content, it links up more and more with our present day problems.
It's a more interesting way of telling a zone story than if we already know who the main enemy is. -

On the other hand, the line that distinguishes science-fiction and Fantasy is very thin and, on occasions, subjective. I say without shadow of doubt that the original Star Wars saga is more of a typical Fantasy story that a science-fiction one.

And don't forget, the costume creator has given us plenty of knights and witches and Egyptian priests and priestesses running around in a modern city - they must have gotten here somehow - it'd be nice forn them to visit home again

Thats a good point, but we are talking about the mythology here. It may have a bearing but it has no place in a modern setting. It should have remained a myth.
[/ QUOTE ]
But superheroes and time travel go together - it's a major source of plots and retcons
I'm hoping for a lot more non-modern zones we can travel to - like the Middle Ages or ancient Egyptian - stuff like the pyramids are just asking for a visit - it could be in a zone with the sphinx, and a temple and some of those tombs cut into the rocks.
Or a medieval place with a castle and a town and a forest to explore.
If a villain could time travel, then it's only logical that he would try and alter history to help him in the present - it's what villains do
The game is a sci-fi fantasy, where mythological people and creatures exist alongside modern and futuristic people and creatures, and as time travel is a well-established part of the game, it makes sense to visit periods where there is a lot of strong mythology, like the Greeks and Romans, or Egypt or medieval times.

Over the many years and now several hundred comics that I have collect I can not once re-call a contemporary story line that ever had time travel with in it.
[/ QUOTE ]
CoH is based a lot of the older style Golden Age and Silver Age comics - that's why we have so much of the mythology and the campness

Further one of the main attractions of this game is that it is firmly entrenched in science fiction NOT fantasy.

Couple that with GR's clue about "offline", and I think there's a good chance that it'll be pretty well full featured AND runs offline from the main game.

I'd avoid jumping to conclusions... especially ones taking a cryptic hint into a context it was never intended for

Statesman_4_Prez, did you mean Obliteration for the T9 power? I don't want to be picky, but if you're going to make a post purely to suggest power names, then getting the names right is probably a good start

All chat channels would translate the text into a mix of leet and capitals, otherwise the weekend wouldn't be H4RDK0R - to show how extreme it is, you have to shout, and the leet spelling shows how only the elite can cope with the hardcore-ness of the event.
