  1. Anyone know how to get VIP status back? I lost mine right before the announcement and was going to resub, and now I cannot. My SG base is shut down and I can't get in there. Was hoping to get the most out of playing for the last few months we have the game.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
I seem to remember reading a LONG time ago that certain keys are "locked", that is changing them doesn't actually change their original use. ie numbers across top of keyboard being set to your first row power slots. Perhaps with this "locked" bind and additional binds it generates the "too many binds" error? I know that EVERYtime I change my binds I get at least one such message, I just can't determine which key since the error doesn't say, but I *think* it might be the v key, which I always rebind to down in flight.

    [/ QUOTE ]

None of the keys are "blocked." They simply come w/ default settings out of the box. Some keys, however, are recommended to be stayed away from. Like the number keys and the movement keys. That is not to say that you couldn't use a shift+<key> command.

    [ QUOTE ]
I have a particular key configuration that I want to load for each new character I create (I'm an altoholic). Unfortunately, for the three of the commands that I change, they already have 2 keys bound to them in the default bind configuration. Thus, when I load my saved keybinds.txt file, I get three messages that such and such command cannot have more than two keys bound to it. Then, I have to go into the Keymapping menu anyway to bind these commands to my preferred keys.

How can I fix this problem? Is there a command that will clear all the bound keys from a command that I could put at the start of keybinds.txt?

    [/ QUOTE ]

A slightly easier way to set this up would be to go into the options menu ingame. There at the bottom of the keymapping tab you will find Load Keybinds and Save Keybinds command that can be set to any key. This will automatically save your current characters bind set as the file "keybinds" in your CoH folder. Hitting the "load keybinds" button will load them from there as well. I have "L" set to load the keybinds and "shift+L" to save them. Just open your "keybinds" file, make any changes, save the changes, then hit whatever button you have set for load keybinds.
  3. Here is what I have posted in another thread in response to the "sticking" problem.

    [ QUOTE ]
Here's one to try. I have the above bind bound to my tab button. Then when I encounter a Q/V/or Cyst I use this bind:

    /bind shift+mbutton "target_enemy_next"

This allows me to continue conning the group. Takes a little getting used to for combat purposes. I also have the mbutton bound for "target_enemy_near" so oftentimes that helps in combat to get the target off a dead Q or V.

    [/ QUOTE ]
  4. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    /bind TAB "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next void$$target_custom_next quant$$target_custom_next cyst"

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is just a note to anyone that might decide to use this bind: If there is a quantum, void, or cyst in the area you will be unable to tab off of them once they are selected unless you loose line of sight or after they fade away (after they are defeated). This makes it hard to gain a new target if you need to fire on another target.

So, my suggestion is to make this into a macro or bind it to a different key if you use TAB all the time like I do.

Anyway, just my two influence worth.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have this one set up on my TAB button. Then I have this bind for when I come accross a Void/Quatum/or Cyst:

    /bind shift+mbutton "target_enemy_next"

This bind allows me to continue conning the group.
  5. Yeah, I have that problem too. I have 3 macro buttons setup for changing into each of my 3 forms. I use them as "just in case" buttons. Once I accidentally loaded my binds from another character, but didn't notice until I was in combat and couldn't switch forms. EEEEK! So now I have those buttons to change in the event I somehow mess my binds up. On a whim I recently clicked one and nothing happened. Opened it up to edit and the whole bind was gone. Pretty sure its a bug so I have /bugged it a few times.
  6. One quick note on copying binds from the forums.

I am seeing an increasing number of posts, both here and in my Guide to Binds for the Peacebringer, where someone is getting a "goto_tray" error msg. I think it has to do w/ when ppl copy/paste things from the forum page directly into their chat window. For whatever reason the bind doesn't transfer right.

This is not to excuse my typo earlier, but there are ppl that have the problem when copy/pasting from here. Even when the bind is typed correctly.
  7. Hmmm...

Ok, logged in my character and tried to copy the bind into the chat window. I got the same error msg after that. I think it may be due to the binds being bold in the guide (sry, made them bold for ease of reading ), but copy/paste does not work. You have to type them in manually.

Remember, for massive bind changes, it is easier to edit your binds by going to the keybinds file located in your CoH program file. Just use the "bindLoad" bind located at the end of the guide to load your changes when done.

Edit: I have pm'd CuppoJo to see if I can make a change to the guide to discourage copy/pasting and I will also try to make them not bold anymore. Sry for the inconvenience.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
    For Human form: /bind g “ goto_tray1 $$powexec_toggle_off bright nova$$powexec_toggle_off white dwarf$$powexec_name shining shield”

    [/ QUOTE ]

Think I found the problem. If you were copying the bind directly from the forum page, I forgot to put a space between goto_tray and 1 in this bind. Oops, so sorry. The bind should read:

    /bind g “ goto_tray 1 $$powexec_toggle_off bright nova$$powexec_toggle_off white dwarf$$powexec_name shining shield”
  9. Can you post the bind that you are using?

    Do you mean this bind:

    Goto_tray <tray number>

If so, you should be typing in the number of the tray instead of "<tray number>" So the bind should look like this:

    /bind g "goto_tray 1"

This bind will switch the bottom tray to tray 1. Also you need a space between tray and 1 . That was a mistake I made early on.
  10. I have heard of CityBinder, but never used it. I think I'll give it a try. I love anything that will make my playing more efficient. The speed on demand binds sounds especially interesting. It also sounds as though the recent update has made it quite easy to use. If so, guess I wrote this whole guide for nada.
  11. Wow! Thanx, I really appreciate all the binds/ info. Will definitely have to include them in version 2.0

    [ QUOTE ]
I noticed you didn;t turn off stealth in your Quantum Flight bind and I agree

    [/ QUOTE ]

The reason for this is that I generally go to Q Fly from Nova or Dwarf form so SS/Stealth is not on at the time. I have a bind set up to turn off SS/Stealth for when I am in combat to save on endurance. So they are never really on when I go to run. If they do happen to be on I of course enjoy the stealth bonus.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
You should also be aware that you can bind stuff to your unbindable keys by adding a shift or alt modifier.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good point, but I would still advise against messing w/ the default movement keys.

    [ QUOTE ]
Furthermore, you can also bind multiple toggles to just 1 key, but you have to press it multiple times to activate each one in order.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Great suggestion! Added it to the guide using my Stealth/SS bind.

    Thanx for the positive feedback!
  13. [ QUOTE ]
while you're absolutely right that you do not want to include emotes or strings of text in your primary binds, this should not discourage those who wish to add a little flavor to their Kheldians from doing so.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Couldn't agree more! I am simply trying to discourage people from using emoted sayings each time they shape shift. Once or twice during a teaming experience shouldn't be too bad.

I am a bind FREAK. I have tons of binds for combat and such as well as many catch phrases I use, and I have been told once or twice to cut it out in the middle of a mission.

I just don't want to see people end up on the I Got Kicked thread for binding a single phrase to their shapeshift key.

Edit: BTW, Thanx for the positive feedback! Also, great idea for binding two functionally identical keys. I think I'll be trying that out.

    Kheldian Guides

The Pocket Guide to Binds for the Peacebringer

Here is a handy dandy little guide I came up with due to the increasing number of posts here in the Kheldian forum asking for Peacebringer specific binds. Enjoy!
  15. This is a guide for Key Binds and Macros pertaining to the Peacebringer. If you have never used Key binds or Macros before, you’re gonna want to start using them now. This guide will not go through a step by step process on how to bind, but I will review the basics of Bind/Macro writing in general. If you have a Kheldian to play with, then you probably have at least heard of Binds and Macros. In this guide I will be focusing on the Peacebringer power sets Luminous Blast and Luminous Aura. For the Warshades out there, you can simply substitute your power names for any of the Peacebringer ones. Also, Iscariot has some great binds listed in his guide Iscariot's Guide to the Triform Warshade

Why is it helpful to use Key Binds or Macros for my Peacebringer?

The Kheldian power sets are unique in that you can shape shift from one form to another, and the powers available in one form are not available in the other two. So, when you are in Human form you cannot use powers available in Nova form. Key binds and Macros make the process of switching forms and using powers available in that form much more efficient. So, when you switch from Human to Bright Nova you don’t have to go hunting for your Nova attacks in the power trays.

    Key Binding basics

Some things to remember when using Key Binds and Macros:

You cannot make your character into an automaton. City of Heroes will only allow one power to be turned on by a Key Bind or Macro at a time. You can, however, turn off as many powers as you want with a single bind. This is useful info later on as many of the binds I have turn off several powers while activating one.

Certain keys should never be used when Key Binding. These are; Q, W, E, A, S, D, X, the Space Bar, the Right and Left Mouse Buttons, and any of the Number Keys (use the Numpad Keys instead). Basically, leave the movement keys alone.

Caps don’t matter. Binds are not case specific, so you can type them in all caps if you want to. It makes no never-mind.

Please stay away from adding emotes or sayings to your binds. Remember you will be changing forms a lot as a Peacebringer. Combat is fluid and the situation demands may change quickly. You may need to be blasting away one minute, and healing yourself up or activating build up the next. This is totally a personal choice, mind you, but your teammates will not be happy having to hear “Now I must enter NOVA FORM!!!” each time you shape shift.

What are Key Binds and Macros?

Key Bind: Combination of in-game functions- slash commands, powers, emotes or speeches- bound together to be executed by a single hotkey.

Macro: Similar to a Key Bind except that the custom command is bound to a button on your Powers Tray.

Quick Glossary of Key Bind commands used in this guide:

    Powexec_name <power name>
Turns the named power on and off each time the key or macro button is pressed.

    Powexec_toggle_on <power name>
Toggles the power on each time the key or macro button is pressed. The power will stay on until you either click the actual power button or use another Bind or Macro that turns it off. Edit: This command can be used to violate the afore-mentioned rule that you cannot turn on more than one power with a key bind. Although, you will have to hit the key again for each power you wish to turn on. The powers will turn on from last in the bind to first. See the Stealth/Super Speed bind below for an example.

    Powexec_toggle_off <power name>
Toggles the named power off each time the key or macro button is pressed. Used when you need to turn off one or more toggles in a bind or macro.

    Goto_tray <tray number>
Switches the bottom tray to the tray you have designated. Why switch trays? The answer is simple; place the powers for the designated form in a corresponding tray. When I change to Human form my bottom tray switches to tray 1 where all of my human attacks are. When I change to Bright Nova form my bottom tray switches to tray 2 where all of my Nova attacks are.

    Goto_tray_alt <tray number>
Switches the middle tray to the tray you have designated.

    Goto_tray_alt2 <tray number>
Switches the top tray to the tray you have designated.

    $$
    Separates commands in a bind.

Ok, all that is great, but can I actually Bind something now!?

Now let’s get down to the meat and potatoes of how to make binds for your Peacebringer. The reason I gave all the info above is so that you can be a bit more creative in your binding. If you know the foundation of how to bind you can make binds that fit your play style. Rather than me just giving out a list of “here are the binds I use.” So anyway, here are the binds I use. Feel free to substitute any key or just copy and paste into your chat window. I am simply listing the key that I have it bound to for personal convienience.

    Bright Nova:

    /bind t “goto_tray 2$$powexec_toggle_on bright nova”

Activates Nova form, and switches to power tray 2.

    White Dwarf:

    /bind y “goto_tray 3$$powexec_toggle_on white dwarf”

Activates Dwarf form, and switches to power tray 3.

    Human Binds:

Note: You can use any of the below binds when already in human form. They will simply activate the power at the end of the bind.

    Shining Shield Bind

    /bind g “goto_tray 1$$powexec_toggle_off bright nova$$powexec_toggle_off white dwarf$$powexec_name shining shield”

Turns off Nova and Dwarf, switches to power tray 1, and activates the shining shield. Pressing the same key again will turn off the shield. This is a very popular version for switching to human form. Substitute any power at the end of the bind as needed. You can also substitute powexec_toggle_on instead of powexec_name to keep the toggle on until you manually turn it off.

    Combat Flight/Energy Flight Bind

    /bind f “goto_tray 1$$powexec_toggle_off bright nova$$powexec_toggle_off white dwarf$$powexec_name combat flight$$powexec_name energy flight”

Turns off Nova and Dwarf, switches to power tray 1, and activates Energy Flight. Pressing the button again will switch you to Combat Flight. I also have added into my bind “powexec_toggle_off sprint” to save on endurance if I activate flight from a sprinting mode.

    Stealth/Super Speed bind

    /bind SHIFT+F "goto_tray 1$$ powexec_toggle_off White Dwarf$$ powexec_toggle_off Bright Nova$$ powexec_toggle_on stealth$$powexec_toggle_on super speed "

Turns off Nova and Dwarf, and switches to power tray 1 just like the other binds in this guide. This bind will also turn on both toggles, starting with Super Speed, when the "shift+f" key combo is pressed twice.

    Quantum Flight Bind

    /bind numpadenter “goto_tray 1$$powexec_toggle_off bright nova$$powexec_toggle_off white dwarf$$powexec_name quantum flight”

THE PANIC BUTTON! Turns off Nova and Dwarf, switches to power tray 1 , and activates Quantum Flight. Having it bound to the numpad enter key makes it a quick and easy panic button to reach. I also add to this one “powexec_toggle_off shining shield$$powexec_toggle_off sprint$$powexec_toggle_off super speed” to save on endurance.

    Hey! What about the Macros?

For any of the binds listed above simply substitute “/macro <name>” instead of “/bind <key>” and you will get a handy dandy little Macro button on your power tray to press to your hearts content. Here’s an example using the Shining Shield bind:

    /macro Shield “goto_tray 1$$powexec_toggle_off bright nova$$powexec_toggle_off white dwarf$$powexec_name shining shield”

You will then get a button on the first available slot on your Powers Tray marked "Shield."

    Miscellaneous Binds:

    /bind mbutton “target_enemy_near”

This bind helps to quickly target the closest enemy for a melee attack.

    /bind TAB "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next void$$target_custom_next quant$$target_custom_next cyst"

Tab will “con” through enemies as normal until a Void, Quantum, or Cyst is in sight then it will default to targeting only that mob. Great for finding Quantums hiding in the back of a big crowd or for targeting Cysts surrounded by tons of Unbound Nictus. Some suggest adding in “target_cusom_next sapper” I have that bound to another key and only use when I’m on Malta missions.

    /bind SHIFT+L "bind_save"

This bind will save your current bind set to the default “keybinds” file found in your CoH game folder. You can open up this file and edit your binds without having to type them out one at a time in the chat window. As with any bind remember that any key will do, so bind the key you wish to use.

    /bind L "bind_load"

This bind will load your current bind set from the default “keybinds” file found in your CoH game folder. You may wish to use a key that is found outside the “chatting keys” so that you don’t accidentally load the wrong set of binds. I use this key because it helps me remember “L” for load.

    Some parting thoughts:

I am sure that there are many more great binds out there that I have not covered in this guide. This is only intended to be more of a “get ya started” guide for Peacebringer newbies. Please feel free to add any that you find useful to this thread. Remember when binding, the sky is the limit, so make binds for all the situations you can think of. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try things out. I constantly have the notepad open and I am always tinkering with my binds trying out new combos to make my Peacebringer more efficient. Good luck out there!

  16. I'm actually thinking about putting together a guide to binds for the PB (actually it'll be more of a directory so they can all be in one place) so any binds you have I would love to use. The super speed/stealth bind sounds especially helpful. The one I use requires me to tap the key twice.
Anyway, I appreciate you letting me post my thoughts in your guide thread.
  17. Hey Papa and all the Peacebringer “newbies” out there,

I just wanted to give some feedback on your guide as someone who has used it from the beginning of their Peacbringer career. It has been my #1 source of info for power choices and lvling outside of the forums and testing certain “iffy” power combos on the Training Server. If you get a chance, I would love some input on what you think of my build (posted below). Currently, I am at lvl 33, and have just respec’d my toon to mirror the build more closely. Originally, I disagreed w/ the Stealth/Super Speed idea, but after I respec’d at 32 I added them in there.

I have been bugging Papa for some updates to his guide ever since I started playing a Peacebringer a few months ago. Mostly, I just wanted to see how his slotting compared to my own. As far as power choices go, I have followed the guide very closely and have to say that I was very, very happy with it overall. For the first few lvls I went with Gleaming Blast instead of the Shining Shield to get to Nova as quick as possible. Then I used the freespec w/ I7 to drop Gleaming Blast and pick up the shield. The rest of this is gonna read a bit like a guide of my own, but that is not my intention. I only wish to relate what I have learned while playing a Peacebringer using this guide.

My thought’s on playing a Peacebringer:
As someone who’s only 50 is a scrapper, I have to say that playing a Peacebringer is a challenge. I have played every kind of AT (outside of the villains) to at least lvl 20 and most to the 30s. It is easy to see why people think of the Peacebringer as gimped or weak. It is an AT that takes lots of thought and planning. It is very easy to gimp your Peacebringer by over-slotting or under-slotting certain powers. Another way to gimp your PB is by going whacky with the respecs. I took a solid week to plan my respec at 32. I copied my toon over to the Training Sever tons of times to try out different combos. Ultimately, I ended up going with basically the same build I already had w/ some very minor adjustments (the Stealth/SS addition mentioned above and that was about it). It had worked for me all the way to 32, why wouldn’t it take me to 50? For me, there is no other way to play a PB other than Tri-Form. Why take something and try to make it something else? The heart of the AT is shape-shifting, and I say go with it. If you want a scrapper, play a scrapper. If you want a tank, play a tank. And so on…

My strategy for playing this character is more of a 3 stage Tri-Form. In the first stage I picked mostly powers that carried over to the Nova form (Hasten, Build Up, and Essence Boost) or powers that helped in defense like Radiant Strike. If a mob gets in too close, just switch to human and pound him with a Radiant Strike to send him flying. Also, I found that Incandescent Strike, due to its looong animation, isn’t so good for this. I died many times during the powers activation time without ever hitting the target. IS is great for use with the Stealth/SS combo however. I totally agree with Papa that you should stay away from powers that another form can do better. The exception to this would be Gleaming Blast. Not as good with damage as the Nova equivalent, but you will need something to round out the attack chain once you get Light Form. I plan to pick it back up in the 40s. Possibly at 44. During the first stage I focused on slotting mostly the Nova form. My slotting is almost exactly the same as Papa’s in this respect. Except that I six slotted the form and also put 3 slots into Hasten. So far I haven’t had a need to put any Acc into the Nova attacks. The three To-Hits in the form plus Build up at the beginning of most fights has been sufficient. The Def-Debuff from the Nova attacks has also helped considerably.
The second stage started once I picked up Dwarf form and will continue through lvl 40. Here is where my power choices differ from Papa’s in terms of order picked. This is due mostly to play-style. My wife also started playing the game around this time so I had to pick Glowing Touch to have something to keep her alive.  Basically all I have done w/ these lvls is slot my Dwarf form and attacks. I fully plan on 6 slotting the 2 main attacks and having the lowest attack 4 slotted. I have found no need to keep more than an acc in the taunt so far. The Dwarf heal should also be fully slotted before you begin putting anything into the human Reform Essence. When you’re in Dwarf form you are usually in the thick of it and cannot switch to human for a heal anyway so it is great to have the Dwarf heal come back faster. The exception to this would be to drop into Quantum Flight for buffs, but that is not always an option as sometimes your end is too low to support Q Fly for more than a few seconds.
The third stage will start once I hit 41 and will continue to 50. This is where I will flesh out the human part of my build by slotting all my human attacks to make them more effective when I have to go into Light Form. I also plan to pick up Pulsar during this stage. As you can see below, I don’t have it yet. It just hasn’t worked for me so far. Probably due mainly to the fact that I want to slot up the forms first before the human attacks and Pulsar has a -20% acc so it really blows outta the box.

My build below shows how I have slotted my powers and what lvls I took them at so far:

Some things to consider when playing a Peacebringer:
    Binds are your friend.
You will definitely need binds (or macros if you prefer) to help you keep your power trays in order and to change forms efficiently. If you’ve never used binds before, you will need to start using them now. Otherwise when you shift you’ll have to go hunting for you powers before you can fight. I have always been a bind fanatic so making binds for my PB wasn’t that hard. I just surfed the forums to find the ones I needed. Personally I keep 3 trays open at all times. The top tray (#9) is all my toggles. The middle tray (#4) is all my buffs so no matter what form I’m in, I can see if something is recharged yet. The bottom tray can be #1, #2, or #3 depending on what form I’m in. Here are the basic binds I use:

    For Nova form: /bind t “goto_tray 2$$powexec_toggle_on bright nova”

    For Dwarf form: /bind y “goto_tray 3$$powexec_toggle_on white dwarf”

    For Human form: /bind g “goto_tray1$$powexec_toggle_off bright nova$$powexec_toggle_off white dwarf$$powexec_name shining shield”

For the human form bind you can substitute any power you want at the end. I have about 7 different keys to switch to human form depending on what the situation calls for (8 including a panic button for switching to Quantum Flight).

Human form drains end like crazy.
I plan on having Conserve Power 3 slotted soon to have it available as often as possible. Stamina is a possibility, though you will have to drop a few valuable power choices to take it. I may take it in the late game to offset the end drain of Quantum Flight or fighting in human form. Another option is to slot an endred in each attack and you should be fine. Also, I plan to have an endred in each of the big attacks on both alien forms as having Hasten running so much is quite draining.

Voids/Quantums will kill you fast (even in dwarf form).
All you have to do is miss a Quantum Gunner in a huge mob once to learn to respect these guys and kill em fast. Con through every single mob (especially in missions) before attacking, and let your teammates know where the Quantums and Voids are so they can be taken out first. A handy bind I have found for this is:

    /bind TAB "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next void$$target_custom_next quant$$target_custom_next cyst"

This bind will allow you to con through enemies as normal, but will default to any Quantum or Void in a pack of baddies. It is also useful in helping to targets Cysts while they are surrounded by Unbound Nictus.

Well those are my thoughts in a nutshell. Papa has made a great guide here. Take what you want from it and leave what you don’t. As for my ramblings… they’re just intended to add a little spice to what is already laid out in the guide, and to second a few of Papa’s better ideas. Have fun out there!
