Ablating with the sweep combo is a must have as it is very delicious to use on large teams as an counter to large ambushes.

Is this a low level Sonic/Dark that is higher than level 20, but under level 30? Do you have SO's slotted, or even IO's slotted?

Energy Drain isn't the problem in the set.
Conserve power can be overkill with energy drain, but an option for those that skip energy drain. The problem in the set in my very honest opinion is repulse. If that was changed to be something useful for a stalker, the set would be a lot better for it (eg. Hit point bonus for a limited time). -
Quote:I feel the same way, that, it is better to have it right the first time around, instead of having to back track later to fix it. A delay for the Lore slot I would be in favor of as well.I am torn on this issue. There is a part of me that says, "Give us what you've got, and worry about fixing it and adding fluff later."
And then I look at stuff like the AE, and am reminded that if it isn't right the first time, it probably won't be for a very long time. -
Only picking up the Alpha slot for 1-2 toons, and the rest of the time probably will ignore the Incarnate content.
No pressure at all as the heart of this game is Alt-itis. -
I definitely am planning on Nerve for my DB/EA stalker

Quote:I am going to have to disagree with you a little bit. Incarnate content is very time consuming, and intensive for every issue unlike power proliferation which provides far more amount of fun than a trial that will become obsolete down the line, regardless how hard they try to link the old incarnate trials with the new ones, because that is the inevitable fate of "end game content". Power proliferation is still in use, and enjoyed by everyone, new and old. That's not quite what I meant.
A new TF? I'll run that once, then probably not touch it again for a long while. That gives me a couple hours worth of content. Powerset proliferation on the other hand, gives me literally weeks to months of things to do. For example if they gave Illusion to Doms, I would probably try every single secondary with it. That's a lot of time and hence, a continued sub.
One type of those content updates keeps me subscribed pretty much indefinitely, while the other leaves me running out of things to do that I enjoy. I realize however that if the Devs were to devote all their resources to just the things I like, then folks who actually enjoy the Incarnate System would be in the same boat I am in right now. My hope is for the Devs to find a happy medium that keeps us all entertained.
When they chose to open Pandora's box that was end game content, as a result, they signed a contract that they can't repay in full, due to the nature of this beast. I honestly don't think this game would have been as successful as it has been if it had an end game from day 1. -
Let me say, that for years City of Heroes has thrived and pioneered content for a small team of 7-8 players, with the ability to bring along lower level players to higher level content. As a result, other MMORPG's have started to move this direction because of the flexibility with such team sizes.
Why does the City of Heroes team want to undue what they are known for in the entire industry? Furthermore, if the industry leader sees no reason to go back to 40 man raids, why even bother putting in place such a system for City of Heroes?
I think sometimes it is best to try to NOT reinvent the wheel. This is one of those times.
As for solo vs teaming, this is a very friendly game to team in because the lack of needing a holy trinity to do any content. But, I am concerned about the time vs reward element when it comes to soloing compared to teaming as it is way too good for teams compared to the glacial pace solo wise that can be accomplished regarding Incarnate content.
My thoughts on Issue 20 thus far, is that, it isn't a better issue than Issue 18, or Issue 19 (+19.5). So what does that mean? It means that I highly recommend the City of Heroes team goes back to the drawing board, so they can make an issue that surpasses Issue 18 or 19 for Issue 21, or really juice up what is included in Issue 20. Right now Issue 20 looks like to be a flat out bust for all purposes even those who were looking forward to incarnate content are left with a meh feeling. Furthermore, the lack of costume pieces is worrisome given the increasing trend of seeing micro transactions to obtain new costume pieces, when it was the norm to see new costumes released with every new issue, or alternating one at least. -
Energy Drain > Dark Regeneration when you start to frankenslot with IO's.
Dark Regeneration is a very neat heal when you have at least 3, or more enemies around, but if it fails to land, and more than 3 minions are on you, as a resistance based stalker set you are toast unless you start hitting some emergency powers.
Energy drain heal is weak against 1-3 enemies yes, but since EA is a defense based set, you don't rely on the heal, thus you are more than likely to engage a larger number of enemies without falling over like a resistance based set.
The heal in Energy drain when swarmed by 7-8 minions is very good due to its reliability, and the endurance return is phenomal. Not to mention the minions blue bars are pretty much empty.
I like resistanced based sets on stalkers as you know you can take X amount of damage, but resistance based sets have a smaller window to work with. This is why DR is slightly better now that you can frankenslot it with IO's, but in my view the new revamped Energy drain blows it out of the water. -
Kinetic Energy/Nin?
That might be what you are looking for or even Kinetic/SR. Kinetic/Energy Aura can work too. -
"We can rebuild him/her"
First, stick with what you love (Force mastery). Next, evaluate what you want to focus on? Are you looking at IO set bonuses? If not, then continue with the respec. Often, when you respec, but then later realize you are aiming for set bonuses, that you probably need another respec. So, pick two IO set bonuses you want to build on that you find fun? If you want the most optimal IO set bonuses to aim for then you can do that, but realize it will require a heavier investment. -
Maybe they should plan an issue to wrap up a lot of stuff? That would be neat no?

I can sum up my position, as bluntly as possible: They didn't learn from the Villain PPP's.

Quote:I am assuming no, because future encounters will probably be designed around the assumption you are using X number of the Incarnate slots.Actually that is something to consider.
Can we 'skip' slots...well I suppose you can unlock them and then not slot them.
Besides a Boss class Ally isn't exactly a huge bonus and not sure on how well the buffing pet will act.
I guess that slot I could just ignore in favour of slotting up slots which have less obvious links like Judgement, Interface and Destiny. -
Biggest obstacle any MMORPG has is how to keep past content relevant? I think CoX has done a good job of keeping 1-50 content as fresh as possible, and a big part of that is a result of ignoring end game content which would have taken a lot of focus away from that. But, when end game content is introduced, you have to keep updating it once it is in, as you can't turn back and shut it down. Furthermore, the issue of keeping existing end game content is far more problematic than 1-50. For example, how do you keep Issue 19 content relevant in Issue 21 for Incarnates without making a convoluted system with overwhelming numbers of different currencies?

Quote:When the majority of the content coming in now is Incarnate content, the perception that this is all being offered now, and possibly in the future, starts to build up. Perception is a lot more potent than reality, and it may make some players pressured to make a tough choice.Nobody is forced to do this content. The people citing it most often are folks that can't let other people have content they might like because they'll feel "forced" into it.
Instead of just letting people enjoy the trials, we've had to hear for weeks how this is going to hurt CoH. Same BS I heard when Inventions launched. By some of the same people. It's of equal weight. I.e. none. -
Quote:I feel the same way, and let me add that if they follow an end game model too similar like other MMORPG, they are unknowingly forcing themselves to devote more resources competing with those games and to catch up to them. It is the equivalent of that OTHER MMORPG trying to put in character customization as intense as what exists in this game.I agree with the decision to include an end-game. I'm one of the people who wanted one. I just don't agree with the decision to follow other games' models for this game's end-game, when those end-game models are so often cited as one reason a lot of people stick with this game.
The more unique the end game becomes in CoX the better it will be. If CoX end game content mimics these other MMORPG's too much most players would rather participate in MMORPG's that have it far more streamlined already than the Pre-Archaen CoX end game. -

Quote:The end game system is being put in place, as I stated before, because of the feedback the devs probably received from those who fill out the survey when they unsuscribe (lack of end game content). The dev team probably debated it, and decided that this is an important feature to put in place to round out the game overall to compete with other MMORPG's. Of course, some of those who are existing subscribers may be not happy with this, but it overall generates a healthy game from my view to have more options which allows more greater retention rate.Eh... I really don't care about badging. Every issue has them, I just continue to ignore them. I skip past that part of the features. I don't feel the need to write dissertations about why badges are bad for the game. They aren't. As you say people like them.
Sam gets on here with the revisionist history about how he doesn't hate group content when all he does is complain about group content. That's what I'm reacting to.
As of right now I would give I20 a B-/C+ based on what we know, but I could probably bump it up a bit with further information that is discovered. -
Quote:Badge hunting is probably very popular in this game, and most likely what inspired an achievement system in that other MMORPG. Badge hunters outnumber role players, PVPers, end game raiders, and soloists combined lol.Personally, I think badge hunting is one of the most useless things in this game. I don't feel the need to complain when they add new badges however.
I don't really care about new costumes at this point either. There's already more there than I can use.
Of course I love the last two, but I'm not going to take a whiz on the whole issue just because it isn't everything I wish it could be.
They are a very major group of this game even though they are very quiet. But if you stir the hornets nest...badge hunters can be nasty...especially if you kills them in a PVP zone. o.O -

Let me say that if there is an Issue 20.5 there are disadvantages, and advantages to this approach:
On one hand you allow the player base to absorb the content slowly while ensuring the remaining content is stable to be released soon after and acts as a bridge for the next issue between the dry spells. The drawback is that a lot of the meat of issues don't launch initially which leaves a bad initial impression on some subscribers. -
Quote:We have no evidence pointing either way that it is a content rich, or poor issue. But we are allowed to toss in our 2 cents.I'm not hounding you, you're telling me how it hurts you when people challenge your ideas. But you don't have any problem putting yourself out there. You're complaining about something unfairly, and you should be able to accept when you're challenged on your ideas. The fact is that all you people playing an MMORPG and then complaining when the devs create content for teams are being wholly unreasonable.
This isn't a single player game played on a shared server. The devs have to create content for teams because GUESS WHAT, some people enjoy playing in teams. All this complaining about a very content rich issue is silly. Some issues don't have anything for soloists. A WHOLE FRIKKEN EXPANSION had one recycled trial for groups and you people are here whining when the content that should have been in the expansion is just now coming.
I think it is very mediocre in terms of content offered because it is forming the backbone of end game from my point of view. But that means that Issue 21, or Issue 20.5 (possible) need to offer more content.
