  1. Hey all, I just finished enhancing up...too probably a little over 150mil. I got some lucky drops that I sold (Including a blessing of the Zephyr I sold for 70mil and a Kismet that I of course kept )

Anywho, Here is my finalized build with correct IO levels...As you will see, I put two lvl 45 recharge IO's into Build up because I was wondering if it's a good idea to slot Gaussian's chance for build up into it. If not then i'll just put another recharge into it...

This is my build with Weave:

Storm/Dark seems like a great choice. Off the top of my head I can imagine that TT should fit in well with keeping everyone if your debuff range.

Although I have a D4 and a Storm corr, I don't have exp with the combo so I can only imagine...hehe
  3. Gammos

    Ugh!

    What's a healer? :P

Anyway, it's funny that you post this because I was on a team with my Cold/Sonic and although my shields were doing most of the work (I was buffing before and after we entered mission) all the praise went to the empath on the team.

It was like I wasn't even there...However they neglected to notice that the only time there were any deaths were when they didn't wait for me to re-apply my shields...

    Proactive support > Reactive support

I don't expect anyone to bend over backwards to thank other players, but a little acknowledgment would be welcome..-___-

PS. Im not gonna even get into how my debuffs (sleet, -res etc) allowed us to breeze through missions...
  4. Lol ohh ok, no problem.

Anyway, I think I've figured out a solution!

Im gonna take this build (The one you made that altered my build with fighting pool) and im gonna turn it into two seperate builds, one with fighting and one with Arctic APP. The one with the APP im gonna see if I can those last 2%'s to cap S/L/E/N.

Im gonna try to work the market to try and afford at least the fighting pool build for now. I only have 30mil now but im only lvl 45 and im sure with a few lucky drops ill make the inf in no time..

I know you said you prefer using lower level IOs, but I also want to note that unless you're getting a bonus you don't want to lose while exemping, there's absolutely no reason not to use level 50 IOs if you need a higher enhancement level. (They're often easier to find than lower level IOs.)
    I said that? O.o

I have no problem using lvl 50 normal IO's. if I 3-slot something I dont go past 40 because of ED, but if I am at least lvl47 and only have 2-slots, I always use 45-50 range normal IOs

Perhaps when I said I was dirt poor and didn't want expensive sets, you thought I meant high lvl IOs?
  6. Im sorry, I didn't even SEE this post untill right now...I wonder why..@_@

Remember, anything above 45% will not be used except in cases where your defense is being debuffed, so most of the time the extra defense will not help you. In addition, Ice has EA, which gives a significant defense boost when you're surrounded by foes. My recommendation is that Ice tanks aim for 45% or just above without EA, which leaves EA for those occasions when you need some additional defense.

And as I noted in an earlier post, your end reduction slotting is rather misdirected. The second end red slot in Wet Ice and Chilling Embrace just yields an additional .05 EPS; additional end reduction in a high-end toggle like Icicle would be much more effective. (As a matter of fact, Icicles at 80% end reduction is still more costly than *unslotted* WI and CE!) So those two additional slots could and should be used for something else.

Here's a summary of the changes I'd recommend. (Please note that slotting for less S/L/E/NE defense allows you to slot for other things, in this case, regen and F/C defense.)

    1. Smashing Haymaker sets: instead of filling the last two slots with Focused Smite, use two slots of Pounding Slugfest instead (Acc/Dam, Dam/Rchg) for an 8% regen bonus.

    2. Pull the second slot from Chilling Embrace and put it in Health so you can reach the ED cut-off for Heal.

    3. Pull the second slot from Wet Ice and put it in Tough--you may have to shuffle slots a bit to do this. 5-slot Tough with Aegis for the F/C def bonus. (I normally don't advise more than 4 slots in a standard toggle, but the Aegis bonuses are very nice.)

    4. You have Cleaving Blow in your AoEs for an additional E/NE bonus you don't need. I'd slot a mix of Scirocco's Dervish and Multi Strike instead--two Scirocco's give you a 10% regen bonus.

    5. You also don't need the third set of Eradication to be well above the soft-cap, so consider slotting a Scirocco's Dervish and/or a Multi Strike set instead since they both have F/C bonuses. (The Scirocco's bonus is considerably better, but they are also quite a bit more expensive than Multi Strike.)

    6. As I mentioned earlier, Icicles needs a lot of end reduction, and slotting it with a set of Multi Strikes would be a good choice for that reason. You can pull a slot from Hasten to use as a 6th slot.

I know you said you prefer using lower level IOs, but I also want to note that unless you're getting a bonus you don't want to lose while exemping, there's absolutely no reason not to use level 50 IOs if you need a higher enhancement level. (They're often easier to find than lower level IOs.)

Like all percentages, it is out of 100%.
Ok, I thought as much. I was just confused by when you talking about multiplyin accuracy and getting numbers over 100% etc.

In my own Ice/Axe build, which is posted upthread, I took Boxing and Tough but not Weave. If you're able to soft-cap without Weave, you could easily take 2 APP attacks instead. That's one of the benefits of soft-capping without Weave, it frees up some power slots for other things you might want to take. *What* to take is purely personal preference, IMO.

I see...The only reason I was interested in the APP was really for Ice Storm, but if I don't have room for it then I may not take the set at all.

Once again thank you very much for your assistance and patience
  8. Ok, I think I understand. Whats the percentage out of? (base to-hit is 75% but out of what, 100%?)

Also, now that you cover soft cap without weave on your new build, if it was you would you take an APP?

Thanks so much for your help!
  9. Ok I see...cool. So if it were you, would you use weave or APP's? Because at the same time I don't know if im even gonna have room for those extra attacks in my chain necessarily.

Even though it's called the "Kismet +Acc", but it's actually 6% ToHit. Confusing, I know, and I have no idea why the devs decided to name it that way.
Also, everytime I try to understand the difference between accuracy and to-hit I get a headache :/. Can you please explain to me in lamens terms what the difference is?
  10. Quote:
You could do both, if you have the funds (or you might do one and then work toward the other). Remember you get two builds now.
    Oh yea! Forgot about that...lol.

Man you guys are not helping me fight my indecisiveness haha..

    @Finduilas:

Thats a great alteration you made! Before I was ok with not having an APP..but now I have to reconsider it again lol..this is gonna take some more time.

    A couple questions:

Is there a need to go past the soft cap?

I notice there is less accuracy in your attacks, why is that?

My build uses less end than yours, will end drain really not be an issue with the way you slotted?
  11. In my haste I forgot to add an explanation lol.

In each of these builds, I took what I feel are the best components and meshed them with my build. I changed the IO's to smashing haymaker (I only crushing impact because I already had these IO's on him) and I changed up some slotting and IO choices for better enhancements and bonuses without giving up too much on the power's stats themselves.

The first altered build gives me defense in the 40's with E/NE in the 45's with the use of APP's.

The Second build chooses weave instead and doesn't get Icicles and Hasten until 47 and 49 respectively. This build gets my defenses in the 50's. It doesn't afford an APP but I don't mind that.

I think im gonna with the the build with the fighting pool, however it's still open to critique! Thanks again!

  16. Thanks for the Advice! Yea, I know some of the items may be weirdly slotted..lol (the build is before when IO's were a luxury instead of the Standard)

    Quote:
Hoarfrost: Recharge, Heal, end red, and off the wall.. Steadfast +3% def. 6 slot it early
Do you really think it needs an end redux? The way I figured, it's not used often enough to really drain my end..

Also, what APP would you suggest? I initially took Energy for FA in PvP (again, really old build lol)
  17. Hello everyone,

I have an Ice/Axe Tank and he's currently at lvl 44. I would like to take him to 50 but I require some assistance..

    *SN*: is Ice/Axe still decent?

Anyway...Here is my build..(I just whipped this up and I have no idea when I really got these powers or at what levels I enhanced them and the IO levels are approximate.). I chose Energy as a APP but im willing to change it easily..

  18. Ok guys sorry for the delay. Well, Here it goes...

“A Spark of Flame” Chapter 2

    Present Day

The clock was ticking. He knew he only had a few more moments left in that place, and he could not be more relieved. Everyone in the room was dead quiet, concentrating on completing the task at hand. Jordan finished and double checked to make sure everything was the best it could be. He then walked down to the person in charge with his head held up high.

“Here you go prof,” Jordan said with a smile that could only come from a college student who just completed his last final exam of the semester. As Jordan was handing in his test, Ray started walking up to the professor, clearly finished with his as well. They both exchanged grins as they walked out of the classroom. Jordan nearly did a back flip out of excitement.

“I am SO GLAD finals are ova! They were really startin to hinder my social life!” he said exuberantly as they began walking back towards Jordan’s car.

“Yea seriously,” added his best friend Ray. “If I even look at another book, I’m gonna go on a rampage!”

Jordan and Ray attended a small, yet well known, university in Paragon City, Rhode Island. They had decided to start their third year of college outside of Brooklyn so they could be in a safer environment more conducive to learning. Well actually, both Jordan and Ray’s mothers insisted that they leave out of fear of the streets of New York. In fact, they had never been happier with their moms’ decision. Not only were they in a new city and a new school, but they both were living on their own for the first time in an apartment in Atlas Park. It was a chance for them to start over.

“Ooo scary” Jordan said sarcastically as they began driving from their school in Steel Canyon to their apartment. “What were you gonna do? Throw pencil erasers at everyone like you did in fifth grade?” he added laughing.

“You ain’t never gonna let that die are you?” Ray said shaking his head. “A man makes one mistake and gets sent to the principal’s office…”

“Dawg, you hit the teacher in her eye!”

“Well she had it comin!” They both paused and bursted out laughing at the memory of their childhood escapades. “Hey JT, let’s go down to the park and toss some pig skin like the good ol’ days”

“Aight cool that sound fun bro” Jordan said as he pulled into their apartment. It only took them about twenty minutes to change, grab some food and be on their way out.

As they both were forewarned, life was…different in the city of heroes. In a few short months, they had eye witnessed many super-powered heroes roaming the city fighting crime, some of them even in the skies above. It all didn’t faze Jordan and Ray however because they had seen it all back home. The streets are the streets no matter where one goes. They both walked down the block to the park, a place that always left them awestruck by its beauty. Atlas Park has always been a place where heroes gathered. That may also be because the town hall and hero registration forms are there. To Jordan and Ray though, it was a place to play ball.

“After all these years, you STILL throw like a girl!” said Jordan laughing as he caught the ball.

“Well these years have not made you look less like one either sis,” he said laughing as he caught Jordan’s toss. They both continued to play for a while, just tossing the ball around. The sun eventually started to set, so they both decided to call it quits for the night.

“Man this brings back memories…” said Jordan as they began walking back home.

“Yea dawg, can you believe it’s been a whole ten years since…well…the incident?” Ray said cautiously. He knew that Jordan did not like re-visiting that memory.

“I don’t wanna talk about that Ray.” Jordan had tried to block out that day from his memory for ten years and still it haunted him; the day that he almost lost control and killed four kids along with Ray in a fire that somehow came from him. Since that incident he had tried to find a way to control that power so that he would never go berserk again, but he had not since found a way to bring it out.

“JT…You know, we have to talk about it sometime man. You can’t let it eat you up inside like that. I forgave you a long time ago for that because I know that it wasn’t ya fault bro.”

“Look man I don’t-” Just as they were about to reach their apartment door, they noticed a man with a mask and a bat giving an older woman trouble across the street.

“JT do you see that?” Ray said whispering.

“Yea, I see it,” Jordan looked around and once again noticed that there are never any heroes around when you need them. “I think she needs our help.”

“I think your right.” As they both began walking towards the old woman, they heard her pleas.

“Please young man, I don’t have any money. I’m just trying to get home.” said the frightened woman.

“Well maybe you should have taken another route lady” said the thug with the bat.

“Picking on older people ain’t cool man” said Ray with his right fist in his other hand.

“Oh yea?” said the thug, “what are you two clowns gonna do about it?”

“Well, you got two choices homeboy. You can either go back to whatever rock you crawled out of, or you can stay here and catch this [censored] beatin that we bout to give you” Jordan said with a slick smile on his face.

“Who do you two losers think you are?” said the thug while pulling out a gun on the men.

“Dear Lord!” said the old woman.

Instinctively Jordan and Ray put their hands in the air.

“Yea, say something now punks!” the thug was advancing on the two men with the gun shuffling between the two of them, “not so tough in the face of steel are you?” he said laughing.

In that instant, Jordan felt the same surge of warmth that he had been trying to harness for years. He felt the ferocious fire inside of his body and longed to teach the thug a lesson he would not soon forget. Jordan was pissed.

“Ray, stand behind me,” whispered Jordan. He then focused with all his might and concentrated the fire into his hands.

“Your doin it JT!” said Ray in hushed excitement.

Meanwhile, the thug continued laughing unaware of Jordan’s power increasing. His laugh was quickly transformed into a howl of pain as Jordan transferred some of his onto the gun.

“OUCH!” The thug howled in pain while dropping the gun on the ground like it was made of fire. Ray’s mouth fell open as he saw the boils and blisters on the thug’s gun hand.

“What the hell?!” said the thug, clutching his burnt hand in pain. He then noticed the radiant bluish-red flame that was emanating from Jordan’s hands. “You’re one of them?!” he exclaimed as he took two steps back.

“Uh…maybe, maybe not!” said Jordan quickly trying to improvise. “So you best get the hell outta here before I do what I did to your arm to your whole body!”

“Yea!” said Ray, just adding emphasis.

“You’re gonna regret this super!” said the thug backing away, “no one messes with the Hellions! No one!!!” He said as he ran away.

“Young man, thank you so much!” said the old woman earnestly.

“It was nothing,” said Jordan as they waved goodbye to the woman.

“Yo, that was off the hook JT!” said Ray in awe as they were making their way back to the apartment.

“Thanks dawg, I think I’m starting to get the hang of this power,” said Jordan deep in thought, “I gotta find a way to try to control it better,” he said while running what just happened in his head over and over again.

As Jordan and Ray were walking back into their apartment, Jordan found that he had many questions to think about. For one thing, who were the Hellions? Could he learn to control his power and someday be like one of those “supers” the Hellion seemed to be scared of? There was only one thing that seemed certain to him; the one emotion that could unlock his powers, was anger…

Definitely a good start, and nice to see a hero who screws up drastically the first time he uses his powers.

    Thanks for the nod, btw!

    “A Spark of Flame”

    Name: Jordan Taylor
    Alias: Fiya Man
    D.O.B: 07/24/1988- Age: 20
    Place of Birth: Brooklyn, NY
Powers: Manipulation of the Fire Element- Insufficient data for complete analysis.

Jordan “JT” Taylor was a regular kid who enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved his mother D’vina Taylor, who had always worked hard to provide for him and keep him safe. He loved sports and played them often with his best friend Raymond Johnson, who just like Jordan, accepted the fact that his father didn’t give a damn enough about him to stick around. That’s not something he thinks about often, though.

“Jordan baby, I don’t want you staying outside too late. You know it can be dangerous out there” said Mrs. Taylor one day as she kissed him goodbye.

“Don’t worry mom”, said Jordan while hugging his mom. “Me and ray are only gonna be out for an hour or two. And don’t worry we are gonna stay right outside the apartment just like you like it” he added while grinning.

“You better baby boy, mama don’t play that mess,” she said with a return grin. “Don’t forget your football baby.”

“I won’t mama.” Football was Jordan’s favorite sport. Today he had on his Blue Giants t-shirt, his matching shorts, and his white Nike’s. He was ready to play ball. Just as Jordan opened the door to his apartment to exit, he saw Raymond exit his apartment. It was hard to miss, considering they lived across the hall from each other.

“What’s good Ray?” said Jordan as they greeted each other.

“Just chillin JT. You ready to ball?”

    “You already know, my dude”

They both exited the apartment building and crossed the street to the patch of grass where they had played catch for the past two years. Jordan and Ray had been friends every since they could remember, which should not have been too long, considering they were both ten years old.

“You throw like a girl Ray” said Jordan laughing.

“Well you look like one” said Ray in retort.
The two started laughing and trading insults like it was the thing to do. Well, on the streets of Brooklyn, you need to have a sense of humor and some wit to make friends sometimes.

“Think fast Ray” said Jordan as he threw the pig skin. Ray didn’t look up in time and the ball landed in the alley behind the grass patch

“How the hell was I s’posed to catch that?” said Ray as he both walked to where the ball landed.
As Ray walked to go get the ball he realized that it was in the hands of the neighborhood bully, Devin. Although Devin was only a year older than the boys, he was taller and easily twice the size of both Jordan and Ray. He had his crew of “friends” with him and no kid wanted to get on their bad side.

“Oh…h-hey Devin” said Ray as he took a step back. At this point Jordan had already caught up to Ray and was prepared for the worst.

“Yo punk” exclaimed Devin, “your ball landed on my new shoes!” Devin and his 3 friends each took a step towards the boys.

“My fault D, I threw the ball too far...it was an accident.” Jordan tried to look apologetic but for some reason he didn’t feel sorry. In fact he was beginning to feel a warm sensation in his body, unlike he has ever felt before.

“Well maybe since you hit me, we should hit you back! I mean it’s only fair right?” said Devin maliciously.

“An eye for an eye…” said one of his friends.

“A Tooth for a tooth punk” said another.

“Yo fellas, let’s not take it that far” Ray asked pleadingly, “We will just take our ball and be out.”
“It’s not that easy punk [censored],” by now Devin and his gang were moving in on Ray and Jordan.
“You know what man?” Jordan said angrily, “If you wanna start something, then make the first move!” Jordan was praying that Devin was one of those “all talk” bullies.

“Gladly!” Devin said, before punching Jordan square in the jaw and sending him back about 3 feet onto the ground.

Jordan hit the ground hard. All at once, the warm sensation he had been feeling completely filled his insides. It was like he was a flame in a human’s body. He did not understand what was happening, but he suddenly felt the urge to make Devin and his gang pay for their bullying.

“JT!” Ray screamed but as he turned and tried to go to his friend’s aide, Devin grabbed him and lifted him from his shirt.

“Where do you think your goin punk?!” said Devin, cocking back and delivering a punch that sent Ray flying to the ground next to Jordan.
Devin and his gang of friends started laughing and making snide comments.

“Yea, say something now [censored],” said Devin as he laughed and gave one of his buddies a high five.
Ray turned to help Jordan get up, but as he did, he saw something resembling a flame in Jordan’s eyes.

“JT, you aight?” He said as he put a hand on Jordan’s shoulder. He immediately took his hand off of Jordan however and massaged his slightly burnt hand.

“What the hell?” said Ray astonished.

By now, the fiery sensation that Jordan had been feeling had fully taken control of his body. He was unresponsive to Ray’s attempts to get his attention. In fact, he was too busy trying to figure out what was going on and why he felt this surge of power in him. Jordan began to stand up, and as he did, he bent over in anguish. The flame took over his consciousness and he was no longer in control.

    “JT!” Ray exclaimed.

“Damn lil punk, don’t die on me, hahaha!” Devin said in laughter while walking towards Jordan. “I mean it’s not like I-”

But that was all that Devin got out before the ground burst into flames around Jordan. Jordan was releasing a vivid and belligerent flame that was flickering in a large radius around him. He slowly walked towards his assailant and the flames flickered wilder and wilder with each step. Although the grass was being engulfed in flame, the fire did not spread outside of Jordan’s desired radius.

“Holy [censored]!” said Devin as he tried to get back up. Devin and the gang turned around and tried to run but every step they took was slowed and difficult. Eventually, they all fell to their knees and started choking from the inhaled soot.
Jordan stood in front of the fallen bullies and watched, almost as if he were watching a movie and not actually causing it. Devin and the gang were slowly choking and coughing to death. Patches of their clothes were slowly burning off. Part of him wanted to stop, but he was too infuriated and wanted them to suffer for what they have done. He was no longer in control of the flames.
    “J…*cough* T…” said a choking Ray.

Jordan turned to his friend and saw that he was stuck in the flame patch as well. Ray was on the ground with his arm extended as he tried to stop coughing long enough to catch his friend’s attention. Jordan was so horrified at the thought of his closest friend in pain because of him that he snapped back into awareness. He quickly tried to calm down so that he could regain control of himself and save his friend’s life. Using all the strength he had, he drew the flames back into him. The radius shrunk and shrunk back into Jordan. His body glowed a fiery red for a second and then the warm sensation was gone. The entire ordeal left Jordan exhausted. Jordan collapsed to the ground and lost consciousness.

Devin and the gang slowly began to get up and make sense of what had just happened. They all looked mortified and one by one slowly started to back away.

“Y…you b-b-better watch your back, ya f-freak!” said Devin as he and the group ran for their lives up the block.

Ray didn’t have time to yell after them. He quickly went to Jordan’s side and, although hesitant, grabbed his shoulder to try to wake him up.

    “JT wake up!”
    “JT we gotta go!”
    “JT…please….”
