isn't the concept of a ladder for (dueling) kind of silly?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think it is, but it's not going to appeal to everyone.
Ranked matches can be a lot of fun, and there's nothin' wrong with wanting to see how you stack up against others. -
You can have multiple characters on the ladder, but each will have its own rank.
At one point, Ownage had 3 or 4 of the top 5 on the ladder. -
You don't have to start by fighting the person at the bottom. You can challenge and/or fight anyone on the ladder, regardless of their current position.
If you beat someone who's unranked, you become the lowest ranked player on the ladder (above any previously ranked players who are now "inactive" (i.e., they have not fought a match in the last 30 days).
If you beat someone who's ranked, you move up half the distance between their rank and your own (For example, with 6 people currently ranked on the ladder, if you're unranked and beat #1, you would be the 7th ranked player and then move up three spots to #4. -
The updated rankings look like this:
1. Poisen Havok rad/psy Defender
2. Xtreme Chaos "Widow"
3. Syphonics spines/regen Scrapper
4. Shadowcat rad/therm Corruptor
5. -Kurgain elec/therm Corruptor
6. Dreadful Avails spines/sr Scrapper

who holds the #1 spot right now and with what build?
[/ QUOTE ]
Looks like Poisen Spiner took the #1 spot with a win over Xtreme Chaos. I'm not sure what character he used though. Once I find out, and if I get a few minutes here, I will update the rankings.
Glad to see some action on the ladder! Killo, good to see you finally got your comp up and running.

Dude I'm not even afk how does he get #1? lol I can't be classified as inactive if no one challenges me can I?
[/ QUOTE ]
You haven't fought in over 30 days, so you are "inactive" and he moves to #1. That's the same way that you moved to #1. -

I've been playin' with my wee and havin' trouble findin' the time to login to coX.
As others have pointed out, it only takes two to tango, so if you are interested in getting ranked on the ladder simply find an opponent who's willing to fight. If you or your opponent are not already signed up for the ladder, all you need to do is post your: character name, AT, Primary/Secondary, and global handle in this thread. The loser should post the results in this thread or on the ladder site, and I will update the rankings.
Since no ladder matches have been fought in over a month, the #1 spot is currently up for grabs.
With the pvp league done for now (Nice work on the league Jimmay!), maybe I'll try to find time to host a tournament next week or something.
Anyway, just letting you know that I'm still around and will update the ladder rankings if anyone's interested in fighting ladder matches.

Sorry to see you go Peril. Always fun fightin' and chattin' with ya'.
Take care man.
I've found my interest in this game dwindling down to nothingness as well, but haven't pulled the plug just yet.
Peace! -
Since the rules for joining a new ladder team and being eligible to play were created by morons, I would like to officially remove my name from the roster of the Freaks.
I don't know if this will allow me to be eligible on a new team any sooner or not, but whatever.
Good luck Freaks! Thanks for accepting me into the group, and I'm sorry I was generally unavailable. I wish you all well, and hope to see you on the battlefield soon.

I remember a guy whose name I have forgotten, but I believe it was "Lightening Boy" or something like that (Lab used to call him "He who shall not be named" and that appears to have led to me forgetting his actual name).
It was pre-CoV, and he had an ice/em blaster. His claim to fame was a series of last man standing matches where he would just stay in phase shift for hours on end until the last of his opponents left the match.
Thankfully, I was never in any of those last man standing matches, but I did agree to duel him once on my rad/psy at lvl 40. "Good luck have fun" in arena match chat, and then just before the match starts he "stealth-switches" the settings to a Rated match at lvl 1 - 5. I killed him a couple times real quick and he quit out. Fun stuff. -
Im not sayin that practice doesnt help. But do you want to use the one day of the week where youll have enough players for a full team on a practice match or an official match? Id rather do an official every time. I dont care if I lose, Ill just say GG and think of it as good practice. Win next time.
In response to Ajax, Im probably defining official differently. After arena came out, Protector players were among the first to flock to Test in hopes of more action, and HR had a lot of fights against other groups on Test. It might have been anywhere between 4 v 4 to 8 v 8 for any given fight and teams would fight any number of times. It was your group against their group, and thats as official as it ever got. Teams fought and didnt keep a record of it. Hard to believe I know. The Dark Ages. -

10mop not knowing about veng stacking displays their lack of practice on test
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, you're right, we "practiced" by challenging groups to officials so we weren't doing daily practices with teams who were using the exploit or else we would have known before we did. It was my fault for thinking a group of experienced players could jump right into official matches. I didn't know that we needed to practice using an exploit to compete with the top groups.
[ QUOTE ]
really? which official was that?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, but my memory's hazy and I hardly recall what I did this past weekend. Unfortunately, I don't have detailed records of every "official" match that I ever fought in with various SG's. HR didn't have a web site in those days, and I didn't go around screenshotting every match. -
I just read some pages of this thread that I missed previously. This is a great thread!
[ QUOTE ]
Granted HR was badass back in the day. During Tribute's run that was the only team we faced that we didn't totally oblilerate and they were actually low scoring matches. It's too bad they weren't more active since I'm sure they would have been a huge force for quite some time, they just didnt have enough people. In our 'official' against them, it was supposed to be 8v8, but i think we had to cut it to 7v7 because of lack of players on their side. One thing tribute had going for it was we had a deep roster of about 20 people, which was actually big at the time for a pvp group. Though in i4 HR was the only SG I saw as a 'threat' until HVND started becoming prominent.

High praise from the Nino!

It featured the first time a rad/psi defender was used in an official match (Chris Havok on Rad Hawk), and the last time a spines/regen scrapper was used in an official match (Rystorm).
[/ QUOTE ]
For the record, I had definitely used my rad/psy defender, VX, in an official match prior to Tribute leaving the game and coming back. Peritus and I were the only rad/psy's I ever saw on test for a good while. -
The last official match for 10 Minutes of Pain was against LD.
Match start. Two blasters rush, double nuke, 3 LD members dead LD has a player conveniently disconnect. Restart match.
Match 2 start: We get the early lead, but they use vengeance stacking to roll us. Same for match 3.
We only had one person with Veng (and it wasn't until after the match that he explained how teams were now stacking vengeance for a big advantage). We decided not to fight any more for a while because we thought that using the exploit was lame and didn't want to practice using it, but could see that fighting without using it was suicide.
I know I was slow in learning about the effects of Veng stacking, but I really lost respect for LD when I learned of the exploit. Their claims of being "arguably the Best SG ever" just make me laugh. Using an exploit to roll groups who don't know about it doesn't win a group many points in my book.
Though our group was made of vet pvPers, we had been out of the hard core official match scene on Test for a while, and were just tryin' to get together for some fun matches with other groups. LD looked like the best group at the time, so we challenged them to see how we'd fare against the best. It would have been a much more fun and interesting match if they hadn't been using an incredibly powerful exploit.
LD definitely had a great group of players, and I'm sure they would have been fine without the exploit. It's too bad that no group was willing to say "Hey this exploit is ridiculous, and shouldn't be used" until after Castle posted that it was an exploit and suggested banning it.
I'm glad to see that now there appears to be a general feeling among groups that true exploits should be brought to everyone's attention. -
Here are the basic tourney rules I will be using for some upcoming duel ladder events.
The tournament match-ups will be set up at random.
It's all in good fun. If you do enter, please attempt to exhibit good sportsmanship.
<ul type="square">[*] 1st round matches will start promptly (please) at 9:00pm ET My first round match will start at 9:05 ET and all other matches should start before mine. If your opponent does not show up and no replacement is available, you will win by forfeit, and a loss will be credited to your opponent (A loss will only be credited to the opponent if he does not cancel his entry prior to the match-ups being posted and no replacement can be found). This is the same for every round.[*] 2nd round matches will start at 9:25pm ET(If I'm still in, my matches will start 5 minutes later than the rounds' posted start time to ensure everyone gets started.) [*] The Championship match will start at 9:45pm ET
There may be byes in the 1st round of the tournament, depending on the number of entrants. The deadline for entry is one day before the match.
Once I set the match-ups, I will stick to them (However, I will do my best to have late arrivals replace any no-shows). I will draw names out of a hat to determine the match-ups.
Please try to be logged in to the test server at least 10 minutes prior to the tournament start time so we can verify that you are online and ready to fight, and you can set up the match with your opponent. If you and your scheduled opponent are ready to fight your first round match prior to the scheduled start time, you may certainly do so (This is true for any round. If you and your opponent are ready to go, you do not need to wait for the scheduled start time).
Rules:
It will be set up for 2 (1 round), 4 (2 rounds), or 8 (3 rounds) people depending on how many people respond to say they are in.
Meet in Pocket D
The match should be set for Super Heavy Weight (lvl 48 - 50).
It should be set as a 10 minute match
No additional options should be selected (e.g., No Travel Powers, Max Recovery). It should just be the standard match options.
Inspirations:
Only store bought inspirations should be used. Everyone should be using store bought inspirations. Arrange a swap/burn with your opponent if you feel it's needed.
No build switching (i.e. if you play as Terp Man 6 in round 1, you can't play as Terp Man 3 in round 2, etc...).
Replacement Rules:
Any players that sign up after the deadline or are present at the time of the tournament can be used as replacements for any players that dont show up, or to fill in byes.
Disconnect Rules:
If a player disconnects during the match, that player is credited with a loss, and the other player will advance. However, if the tournament is down to the Final 4, and your opponent (who was not diconnected) agrees to a rematch, you two can restart the match.
If a player does not zone in to a match before the countdown has been completed, the match should be restarted.
If both players are booted from the match, the match should be restarted.
Maps:
Matches should be restarted in the Monkey Cage or Small Office Map
Ties:
In the event of a tie, the players will fight a rematch (unless both players feel a rematch would also result in a tie). If the rematch is a tie, players will fight in a last man standing match. If both players feel that a rematch, even a last man standing match will be pointless, the winner will be decided by rock/paper/scissors.
Stalkers lose ties by default to any other AT.
Deadline for Entry:
One day before the match -
No limit to Phase duration. People phasing for a whole match if they knew they couldn't win...or getting a single kill and then phasing for the remainder of the match.
-
"We're the best SG eva!!! We quit. Here's the exploit we used to win our matches."

tribute went out undefeated,

I recall Tribute getting beat by a Hell Raiser team, but the HR team had a couple of fillers (which wouldn't fly in today's nazi-ladder system). By today's standards, it would have probably been a (serious) "practice" match. -
Ahhh the good ol' days before movement suppression and ED...
And before Impale got neutered...lettin' that impale fly from half way across the map and being able to land ripper on the target before the impale got there...ahh...good times.
hahahha. IH as a toggle too and double stacked Dull Pain with perma MoG. It was soo unfair but it was FUN! -

Break Free offers 25% resistance to Repel. Escape offers 100% resistance to Repel. I could make Break Frees grant resistance anywhere from 25% to 100%. Where is the acceptable breakpoint?
25% = 4 BFs needed to obviate the effect.
33% = 3 BFs needed to obviate the effect.
50% = 2 BFs needed to obviate the effect.
100% = 1 BF needef to obviate the effect.
Once 100% resistance is reached, you can't be Repelled unless the effect is irresistible. This will apply to Force Bubble, Hurricane, and other Repel type powers as well.

<ul type="square">[*]2 bf's should free a player from the repel[*] TK toggle should de-activate after 60 seconds
I'm absolutely shocked that Castle posted in this thread, and it's great to see that some pvP issues are actually being considered. Amazing! However, the idea that they would fix TK by removing the repel effect is completely ridiculous. Hahahhahaha. Seriously. Hahahhahaha. TK's been broken for so long that I'm stunned it's actually being given attention now, but I guess someone finally pinned one of the dev's into the corner of a map for a little too long.
