Quote:I found her. On the SW most island in Imperial City. About 140 yards NE of the Tiberian Bluff marker.I accidentally shot my mouth off correcting someone who was talking about it on the Help Channel. Lucky me, they were nice enough to straighten me out. Apparently, the contact is actually intermittent as well--and when they are gone there is a cloud of fireflies placeholder. Where did I just hear about such a thing...?

Quote:I think that if they went to this model the game would go under. There is enough people playing today that would be happy with just the free part that Paragon Studios could not afford to keep running. At least with my method they still make at least the same amount per customer and more on some that want more access. You still would have to worry about the longer term players though that would throw up the BS flag and leave the game for it.That would be a tad different from what I was going for
I guess that silver would be a (free) but extremely limited account, gold would be what we have now (mostly) and platinum would be what we've come to expect plus no microtransactions.
They could even lower the bar for gold so that current use is deemed 'platinum'.
Free (+MTs), $9.95 (+MTs), $14.95.
If you choose to only use one server, then you're no better or worse off than now; especially being that each tier limits you to a server set (not just one server). -
Quote:This might work on a new game just being introduced, but I don't think they could successfully market it to an audience that has been playing the game for a while. Especially if they had to pay more for the same gaming experience that they have been getting for less. Just for arguments sake, let's say the the pay scale goes like this:Anyway... since the convo has steered to fee tactics, I would suggest 'tiered membership'
Silver - Access to only X servers; limited Y number of of character slots, MA slots and costume slots (and other limitations, some, which can be overcome through micro-transactions) - lowest cost (or free)
Gold - Increases server access, character, MA and costume slot limits; paid server transfers; limited ig-mail privileges; even split between micro-transactions and items built into free releases (regular cost)
Platinum - Full access to all servers and slots; free server transfers; full ig-mail privileges (item transfer); anything that would normally come as a micro-transaction is built into free updates
[Not a complete example but hopefully, you get the idea]
Silver - $14.99
Gold - $15.99
Platinum - $16.99
I know this is different from your example, but this way they make money on all accounts. Only problem is that the long term players have been getting full access to the game now for only $14.99 a month, BUT that same amount would now only get them limited access. Can you hear the mental screams? Especially if the server they have been playing on is no longer one of the ones they have access to for the lower prices? -
Quote:If micro-transactions is the only way to keep this game afloat, then I will not be staying. I will be on the first wave out, as a matter of fact, and I think that IF they were to announce such a thing you would find a rather large portion of the player base would leave as well. I love this game, but not enough that I want to pay for the game every month and then pay again for every new piece of shiny they put out. That, MaestroMavius, is Business 101. That is why you will not see them make that kind of announcement AND why we have to keep our eyes open for what is going on. That is Smart Consumer 101.If micro-trans is the only way to keep this game going then I'll be on board 100%. IF things are that dire.
However, if this is to be the deal going forward I think the company should be upfront about it. Instead of just slowly releasing them and hoping we don't notice.
The lack of response from OCR concerning this is starting to really get me worried. We're transitioning from a period of great interaction between the community and Mods/Devs to a more traditional annoucements only style of relationship. I still can't figure out why and that in turn leads to rampant speculation.
If the future of COX is to be micro-transaction based. Tell us now so we're prepared going forward. Rather than continue to hemorrhage existing subscribers out of fear of communication/ company commitment.
This is business 101 guys. -
Quote:I hear what you are saying, but I am just not sure I agree. An Aura Pack would probably be received better than the "Emote Pack" was, but not as well as most of the other packs were either.Hmmm, an Aura pack might actually be well received by the CoX community. Let us assume that they are developing an aura pack.
Let us also assume that it will have approximately 8 auras in it. I would most likely purchase this pack (I'm a sucker for costume pieces). Especially if said aura's would be available right from level 1 (which, if I'm paying for them, I would want them to be).
This said, I think the dev's will understand that it would be more economical to try for value for dollar. The Party Pack in that regard was a failure, as $1 per emote was percieved as way to high.
Is $1/aura too high? How about if said aura was available at level 1? Let marketing explore for a bit. Now that GR is out, micro transactions will be their main cash injections. (subscriptions being their bread and butter).
Just some thoughts.
Oh, and the Three aura's are freaking awesome!!!!
To be honest, I am a completionist, I love costume pieces, and all that, but auras fall into that part of the game I just don't use much. I like the glowing eyes and most of the others look cool and all, but they also give me a headache when I'm traveling (literally a headache, right behind the eyes).
They also don't do anything for my toon, powers wise. They do help with some themes and all, but not enough to warrant paying for them. At least not for me. At this point, every time they do put out a paid for pack it is also going to be pushing me away from this game.
It would really suck to leave after more than six years, but I really do not like the direction this game is headed and if it continues, then I can't. -
Quote:Thanks for the idea, but I don't think that I would be willing to move away from Guardian. Not unless my SG's could be moved over as well, which I doubt. I put way to much energy into those bases to loose them now. Also I live in Hawaii (moved here last year from NC) now and a west coast server is best for me. Well, I guess it is time to really start putting in trouble tickets on a regular basis and try forcing a fix then. Thanks again Hallowed. You may want to see if you have the some problems on another server. If not, it would point pretty clearly to Guardian. When we started running our villains on Infinity (years ago), we noticed virtually none of the problems that were regularly occurring on Guardian. Also, since I think you're on the East Coast, try one of the E. Coast servers, as you should have better performance.

Quote:And here I was starting to get encouraged. This however is not a good sign in my opinion. Oh well, guess we'll have to wait and see.Hey Folks,
Well it seems like the leak was slightly larger than we thought, if it werent for those meddling Soldiers of Arachnos! While the Snow and Firefly Auras were for a future issue (and are now being included as part of Issue 19), the Storm Cloud Aura is for a completely different initiative and will be removed from availability in the live environment.
Thanks, -
I've actually wondered this myself many times in the past and I have to say Hallowed, I don't appreciate you reminding me of it. Seriously though, thanks for the feedback.

Quote:I play exclusively on Guardian. I see a good mix of the obvious server lag and unknown lag. The TF I was talking about I know the one guy getting disconnected was not in the US, but I am not sure which country he was in. He did specifically say though that he never had lag prior to issue 17. The more I think about it my lag actually started getting bad at Issue 17 as well (then got horrible even in the wee hours during GR.Issue 18), so I have to wonder if maybe UM is at least partially responsible. I keep my UM on the lowest settings and my video card is supposed to be able to go much higher, but still . . .Hmm. My SG has people from both coasts and one player in Europe, and, other than one person with a bad internet connection, we don't see disconnects.
I'd say we see the extended 1-5 sec server-side lag spikes once per hour, on average (and it's clear when it happens that it's server-side lag, as it hits everyone regardless of location). Primarily, we are playing on Freedom now, while still occasionally running on our original Guardian/Infinity servers. The lag is certainly more noticeable on Freedom, but given the load, that's to be expected.
What server are you on? It might be a server-specific issue. -
Quote:If I still lived in NC I definitely would make the drive. That is saying a lot from me because I HATE cities. Would bring both of my kids as well (14 and 16). Only one plays, but the other one is interested in the game design aspect and would like to pick some brains, so to speak. Heck, I have two tickets worth of travel miles already, so buying one more wouldn't even be that bad. Dang, actually getting a little excited here.Out of curiosity, how many of you would come if your under 18 kids were allowed in?
As for devs attending the Meet & Greet, War Witch, Noble Savage and Ghost Falcon will be there. Black Pebble and I will be there too.
I will also ask a couple of friends that live in the area about it Avatea, but since the original announcement upset them so much, I haven't seen them or their kids on-line. -
Quote:I agree with Cende and will only add that this will also most likely mean taking up a character slot in the mean time as well.So what happens to characters that we create in Praetoria once the Reactivation Weekend is over?
For instance, I don't have GR, but I've always wanted to try a brute, but don't want to start in the RI. So I'll roll one in Praetoria once the Reactivation Weekend gets here. What happens to that toon once the weekend is over? Does the toon disappear? Or will I only get to access the toon again once I get GR? -
Quote:I have no problems with your opinion, you are welcome to it. I even think you are right about leveling too quickly, considering that Praetoria will only be open to Level 14 for the folks that don't own GR. If they gave a "Double XP Weekend" at the same time they give a "Free GR Weekend", then you would only get about half the content a toon normally does to get to Level 14. Hard to showcase all the GR content, when you would effectively only see about a third of it.If I typed what I want to type I would be in alot of trouble. Here's what I can type without the bad stuff... i hope. GR was weak IMO (can't reply to that... it's IMO). They won't do double XP because it would make the people doing the new content lvl too quickly. They think you would want to enjoy the 1 - 20 stuff for as long as you can. and they are wrong. IMO again.
There is one thing about your post that I will comment on. Try not to attack everyone with it before they even disagree with you. -

I've noticed it around the clock and it doesn't matter how many people seem to be on the server. Even only one dot is enough to cause lag. I recently did a TF at about 4am to 5am EST with only 6 people and one guy got mapservered in every mission. Most of us also died at least once per mission thanks to lag. You know the type I'm talking about. Game stops working for about four or five seconds and starts up only to have your toon fall over dead. My personal favorite type of lag is the 300 yard lag spikes while trying to travel. I've even tried the "/unloadgfx" and "/sync" commands to no affect. Anyways, it's really starting to annoy me.

Good points Starhammer and i do agree with most of it. Your post has made me really think about what bothers me with the whole alignment system and I think it comes down to it's too easy (other than the Hero Morality Mission just seeming wrong). By this I mean you go from Villain to Rogue to Hero. It's too fast, too simple. To me it might be more plausible if it was Villain to Rogue to Vigilante to Hero. A little more "shades of gray" there in my opinion. I know it would take longer to switch completely over, but even that is more realistic. Anyways, that's my two cents.

Well, at least they dropped it from the previous 21+ requirements. Still feels like they are alienating a huge segment of their fans by keeping the younger crowd out. I just can't figure why they don't do this but make it so anyone under 18 has to be chaperoned by a parent or legal guardian. Well anyways, for all those that can attend, have fun.
-
Quote:Not a bad point, except I play on a server already with a lower population normally, and even during the most "Dead" hours during the week, the lag can get bad. This while playing on a computer built to play the MMOs, with a Internet connection speed most envy. I wouldn't even mention this except EVERY group I team with complains of the same problem. So, while you do have a point, so does the person you quoted. You're not misunderstanding, you've got it right.
Of course, you're forgetting that their are other restaurants. The restaurant you frequent is overcrowded to the point of getting poor service. You lament that they're advertising for more customers.
But there are other restaurants with lesser crowds and great service. Over the past year, you were giving coupons to join them with a free ride to their door. But, you chose to stay in the overcrowded restaurant. Enjoy your free hamburger there! -
I have to agree personally and this is probably why I like TFs/SFs better than raids. More time to joke around and interact. Raids are just too much action all at once to be able to do anything but fight and try to stay alive.

Quote:Well, let me see. I'll start this by first saying I have seen a lot of the same people asking for Power Set Respecs, not a lot of people asking for them. But that may just be me. I stated before that the companies model for this game is get a toon to 50, then make an alt. That has been stated many times now. It MAY be changing since they are coming out with the Incarnates System, but we'll have to wait and see.Well, you guys talked me into deleting my Shields/mace tanker at level 43. Good job.
YOU don't think. Judging from the amount of requests we see for dynamic respecs, I think your thought might be wrong.
We have been told "ABSOLUTELY AT NO TIME, EVER, NEVER!" on the following issues:
*transferring loot to ourselves
*power customization
*switching factions
*merged markets
*and I think server transfers
...and all of those came to pass, so pardon me if I take your caveat with a grain of salt. On second thought, I'll just move the Tank to a new server and wait.
As for those items you listed, most of them were not said "Absolutely Not" going to happen. Most were said, basically, "probably not" or "not on the radar". For instance:
Power Customization - listed as would like too, but probably not due to coding issues.
Switching Factions - they wanted to do this since CoV first came out and it took until now to happen.
Market Mergers - listed as a "probably not" because of the price imbalance between the red and blue markets. Switching Factions later made this absolutely necessary.
As for Loot Transfers and Server Transfers, I don't remember what was said about them, nor do I care. You are absolutely right to take my opinion on this matter with a grain of salt though. Just keep in mind that it is based in what was actually said, not on how I interpreted what they said. -
I've been pretty much convinced for a while now that "raiding" just isn't as fun as other styles of play. Even as boring as Farming the same mission over and over is, it's more fun to me than raiding. Shoot, about the only time you will see me even do a Rikti Raid is because I need the merits to buy a new robot. I do not delude myself though that other people don't like to raid, just not a big game pleaser for me. If I had my choice though, the raids would be replaced by actual TFs/SFs.

OK, I keep hearing about it on the Globals and Broadcast chat in the game. I know it is giving me problems and I have a new computer built to run this game. So how many other people here in the forums are experiencing a LOT more lag then usual and mapserver disconnects too?
-
Quote:Yes, the original argument was about Powerset Respecs and as I said I doubt it will happen. As for a better Respec System, I would be happy if they did update it a little. At least show what level you are respecing to at any given time in the process. As things stand right now, I would rather delete a toon than respec it, which is exactly what I have done now for about three years.Only if you mean 'allowing people to respec powersets'. I don't see that happening.
Better respec system? The current one is horrible, clunky wreck. I think that alone is excuse enough to give it an overhaul to make the process less painful.
And that way people whining about x,y and z changes have one less leg to stand on, namely 'But respeccing is horrible!' -
Hey Avatea, could we please get some clarification here? Mostly what features of GR will be available? I am pretty certain side switching, for example, will not be, but a little word from you would help.
