Well, visually this character reads pretty young to me so I didn't want to get that crazy. I was thinking of having this image being along side another that would be after she lost the contest, that would be saucier.

Hola,
I added a wip for Vikki Vandale. Also the generous Eddy Swan has Gifted his slot to EnnVee, so EnnVee please let me know what character you'd like done with screenies and all that. Gratz! -
Quote:Lol thanks Foo, I'm just hassling ya.
I'm tryin' ta say you good! -
When? Lol whatcha trying to say Foo?
The last two sketches I think have turned out really well, in part because I've been using some 3d to establish the basic pose. Here's an example of me using 3d assets to set up a scene for a paint:
Before painting in Photoshop:
After postwork in Photoshop:
In terms of realism, I think I'm better at digital sculpting than drawing. However, the effort it takes to do 3d from scratch (sculpting, rigging, lighting, texturing, etc.) is prohibitive since I do everything myself. I don't buy premade assets. Over the last year, I've really been working on improving my drawing and rendering skills in 2d, so I think i'm reaching a point where I can seemlessly blend rough 3d elements into a 2d composition.
Both of those recent sketches used this unfinished bust of Batgirl I sculpted a while back: http://battlewraith.deviantart.com/a...-Wip2-96814361
All the other Barely Super sketches done so far are straight drawing with no reference. -
You've got tons of great work in your gallery. You should post some of your favorites because you're under-represented on the fanart section.

Yes, sorry Mousedroid. I've had to turn three people down so far that came to me after the slots filled up. I will sell copies of the book after its finished, but I needed to cap on the number of preorders otherwise I'll never get the thing done. Depending on how this one goes, I'll probably do more in the future as well as my normal commissions.
VexXxa-- Don't get fired, lol!
Pyro--Yeah I'll see what I can do when I come back to the piece after all the teaser sketches are done. I had two specific characters in mind for this compositions, and they represented certain things narratively, but I'll keep Natrix in mind.
Btw, does anybody know what the deal is with Deviantart lately? I have different folders set up in my gallery. When I go to the folder, I can't view any of the pics inside unless I'm using that stupid "sitback" function. It's getting really irritating. -
Chris would you mind if I popped this in photoshop and did some adjustments?
-
Lol yeah I kinda thought that joke might be coming after I wrote that.

Things are basically in the right place and the right size, but you don't have enough anatomical detail to indicate depth. I added a little more space to the right side to indicate the curvature of the face, but other than that I just added more detail to what you already had.
Also forgot to use red lines lol. -
You're definitely improving. Do you want a redline on this?
-
Ok I just uploaded a sketch of Demon Trix. I'm not sure if this is over the line with regard to Deviantart, such check it out while you can ladies!

So you're talking about everybody submitting fully rendered, polished pieces? Or preliminary layouts to be considered for judging, which will be rendered out if they are selected?

Powerstream--
I think you are misunderstanding the Juggertha comment. I don't think it was mentioned to imply that his work sucks. Rather, of all the posters I've run across on these forums Juggertha is the least responsive to criticism of his work and the most demanding of proper "etiquette" when adressing him. I think that's why Suichi mentioned it. -
Added a Pinup Girl Wip. It's rough in more ways than one. Like.....Suichiro rough.

Quote:No, things are definitely wrong or right when viewed within the proper context. There is a context for realistic rendering which involves techniques which have been developed over hundreds of years. There are things such as bad perspective, incorrect anatomy, etc.
Which I would agree with when it comes to things that are impacting someone's life. But art is subjective. Period. Maybe someone didn't use a certain perspective because they didn't want to. Maybe Picasso just had bad eye sight. No one can say it's wrong or right.
There are traditions apart from realism of course. But let's keep it real here: If you want to draw a kickass picture of superman fighting the Hulk, you're not going to turn to Dadaism or Abstract Expressionism. -
Quote:My ideal customer is like that, the connotations of your wording aside. The people I really like to work with are the ones that are familiar with my work and are interested in seeing what I would do with the source material. Basically, they have enough interest and faith in my ability to permit me to explore the character and express what I see in it, as opposed to the orthodox way it's generally done.
If a collector wants to just toss some money at an artist and tell them to do whatever, that's certainly their prerogative.
If the client has very concrete ideas about what they want done, that's fine. But the more proscibed things become, the more commercial and academic the endeavor becomes. Maybe the artist works harder because they know the client is picky. Or maybe the client is more satisfied because the artist stays closer to their expressed expectations. Whether or not the art is actually better is a subjective appraisal. Personally, I really doubt it. -
You mean a Wacom tablet?
This is ZBrush, it's a digital sculpting application: http://www.pixologic.com/home.php
