One big thing that was player suggested that might not seem like it was:
Auto Logout.
We used to have huge threads featuring screenshots of people standing around Paragon with Away messages of "Gone to the Gym, be back in 5 hours," "At work, I'll be back tomorrow," and such. Many people believed this contributed to lag, so they asked for an auto-logout feature. -
Essentially, it turned into one of those heated flagwaving debates you see on FreeRepublic or Fox News.
OH MY GOD, WE CAN'T BE PATRIOTS BY STANDING NEXT TO THE FLAG? WHO CARES IF OTHER COUNTRIES CAN BE PATRIOTS OF THEIR HOMELAND NOW! USA USA USA!
It was like when anyone used to face Yokozuna in the WWF and the fans chanted USA, even though Yokozuna was American, too.
It was one of the dumber controversies in this game's history, along with the one person who kept saying that witches were offensive to his Wiccan religion. -
Yup. I like where we are at now, too. They seem to take the suggestions that benefit the entire playerbase (even if some stuff like ED or supression doesn't seem like it does).
If the devs just listened to players 100% and implemented every suggestion, though, the game would be killed in seconds. It might have been before your time, Kitty, but I've seen such fabulously gamebreaking suggestions as:
* Blasters should never get debt
* Blasters should have no hitpoints and take no damage
* Blasters should have unlimited endurance
* Tankers should never lose one on one in PvP
etc etc etc -
This is but the tip of the iceberg.
I'll probably be here all night posting things that come to mind.
It's fun thinking about this and realizing that some of the stuff in the game right now that we take for granted wasn't originally there and was suggested by players. RSKing probably being the biggest one. -
* Changes to the in-game email system, though most people barely use it.
* Addition of a few seconds of hover to TP self so you can continue to TP without dropping like a stone. -
* Changes to Hami-O enhancements were suggested by the playerbase
* The ability to give leadership to another player on a team
* The Team Search flags for what you are particularly looking for
* Inspiration selling bartenders in Pocket D
* "Traps" inside missions like in the first mission of the Hess TF
* Elec Mastery Blaster Power Pool
* Pets following players up/down elevators
* AutoRSKing for Task Forces and Trials
* Removal of flight's tohit debuff -
* More skirt costume options
* More ninja costume options
* Spikes and chains for costumes
* Lab Coats for costumes
* Arena match invites TPing you to the nearest Arena
* A Hospital in the Croatoa University
* Addition of various elite bosses in early CoH TFs to make them more interesting
* The upcoming rebuilding of Boomtown (previewed in CoV)
* Hostages that can fight alongside you
* Wave missions
* More protect X missions
* More story arcs and website articles expanding the backstory and continuity of CoH/CoV
* Reverse Sidekicking
* Multiple Costume Slots -
* No Debt until level 10
* Half Debt within missions
* New zone-specific accolades like the Gaes
* Changes to the way Hami-Os were awarded so that everyone that attacks Hamidon gets one
* Bloody Bay being changed from Free for All to Hero vs Villain
* Addition of Banished Pantheon in Bloody Bay and Sharkhead Isle
* Two ships in PI that spawn more Malta and Carnies for those needing help on kill missions
* The Calvin Scott TF as a temporary TF that moves the story forward
* The combined pricing scheme of CoH and CoV
* Electric Armor for Brutes
* Thug Masterminds
* Changes to how early you get cell phone numbers from contacts
* Changes to what kind of enhancements contacts sell
* Changes to placement of PvP Zone Liasons (they used to be inside the zone, now they are outside them by the enterance)
* The Pocket D event was player suggested (Heroes and Villains teaming up)
* A lot of the current emotes added in I6 were player suggested
* TP and Rez Prompts
* The ability to go back and do old story arcs if you have none open (I1 feature)
* Respecifications were asked for heavily, at first the devs resisted
* The concept of "free respecs" were player suggested around the change to Tanker provoke -
Not sure if it counts, but changing the Arena board into the Badge board was definitely player suggested.
* Plant Control for domination has been suggested since CoH launch and will most likely be brought over to CoH in the future.
* Many kheldian powers were changed and kheldians were buffed around player suggestions
* Special missions for Kheldians, hopefully to be expanded to more ATs in the future
* Badges that unlock costume pieces
* AT-specific temp powers in the early game
* A second contact chain in Mercy Isle in CoV
* Combining similiar missions
* SG bios were added
* SG bases will have vaults for enhancements in I7
* Deathsurge badge was added after many requested it
* Spawnable monsters in CoV
* I actually suggested Winter Minion and Red Cap gladiators in CoV Beta
* Added confuse protection and perception buffs around bases in PvP zones
* The changes to Gravity Control in the early game
* The change from elude into a ghetto phase shift into what it is today
* Stackable dark armors
* Stackable Ice armors
* Changed graphics for Dark, Ice, and Stone armors
* Changed graphics for Katana scrappers
* Increased bonus for teaming based on team size
* Increased mission complete bonus based on mission difficulty
* The mission difficulty slider itself
* Supergroup badges
* A Maple Leaf chest symbol
* Pirate-themed costume pieces were highly suggested in CoV Beta and put in fairly quickly
* Badges that unlock contacts and story arcs
* Portals to help get to RCS and the Shadow Shard zones
* The removal of the "Power 10" enhancement scheme in stores
* Increased blaster hitpoints and damage cap
* The new domination (original domination meant the lower in health a target was, the easier and longer you can hold them)
* The new scourge (Scourge used to be double damage when a target was at 20% HP, now you get a chance to scourge at 50% that increases as the enemy goes down in HP)
* Removal of Ice Brutes
* New zones featuring missions that only exist in that zone so there's less travel
* More "active" zones featuring enemies fighting enemies -
Yup, just looked it up and it's Archon_Voss, who I think posted quite a bit when I3 was on test since he had such a big part in making Striga Isle.

Isn't Tisirin head of all NC Soft Support or something?
I still think our list is missing some people. Weaver_One isn't accepting PMs, so I'm not sure if he's still around or not. And I could swear that War_Witch said that her and Ravenstorm had a third person that's actually in charge of zone layout with them. And, of course, Weirdbeard and Supermartin and Devastatutus.
I'll go look through War_Witch's posts to see if I can find the name of that third designer. -
[ QUOTE ]
Why the delay to get a name?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hate to speak out of turn here, but I think Castle being chosen as the Stalker AT rep in CoV Beta was the catalyst for his "coming out" as a redname on the forums as it were. -
[ QUOTE ]
Heroes created in April/May 2004 as well as being around last anniversary and this one should get something extra extra special too!
[/ QUOTE ]
Really, you just have to do the second half of your sentence to get this gladiator.
The Celebrant badge wasn't based on how long you've been with the game, just if you logged in during the month of the anniversary last year.
So this is a nice reward for people who've at least been here a year. -
[ QUOTE ]
I also vote 5th Column Mek Man, in the hopes that player input will influence your decision. What better way to celebrate two years with CoX than with the longest standing bug in the game?
Hey, we kid because we love. It's such a dumb, harmless bug, it's not really worth the time spent hunting it down, but that makes it no less funny every time it happens.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't doubt them doing it. And I wouldn't doubt the Gladiator badge description being "Another Mek Man? These things show up all over the place for almost no reason..."
It'd be like the plaque in King's Row memorializing one of the first big easter egg bugs the game had. -
[ QUOTE ]
I do find it distressing that the game is losing so much staff when it needs it the most. I mean.. this is TWICE the game that it used to be.
[/ QUOTE ]
I could be wrong, but isn't Recluse the only Cryptic developer to leave?
Weren't everyone else NC Soft employees? -
[ QUOTE ]
(Muwhahaha...I got City of Villains for free! Just wait till I pay my 10-15 years in jail...muwhahahaha....)
[/ QUOTE ]
We're talking about the Zig here... you'll be free and on the streets by Saturday night. -
While I might be anti-crafting, I'm surprisingly pro-invention system.
I know it's just a change of one word, but with all the great inventors in comics (Tony Stark, Mr. Fantastic, Forge) it definitely fits in. -
Also, we have confirmation during Recluse's departure that Mako is still with them.
And with all the recent costume additions, it would appear that Weaver_One is still around and listening to our suggestions. -
Let's not forget... uh... what's his name... the guy who was the Corruptor Rep in CoV Beta who singlehandedly angered all the most vocal corruptors (besides myself) on that board. The one that handles missions and ambushes, I think?
SuperMartin is still around, I believe. He just posts when something major happens bug-wise.
Wasn't there also another environment designer along with War Witch and Ravenstorm, too? Archon Voss? -
[ QUOTE ]
...
Wait. Someone once mentioned they thought their badge count was increasing when they fought gladiator matches.
If it does work, that would seriously rock for us early players.
[/ QUOTE ]
Early in CoV's life cycle, you could earn kills towards badges in the arena. Unfortunately this bug was fixed.
The only one since then that has allowed this was Zeus Titan after two Hercs combined, only since the arena didn't label the newly made Zeus a gladiator for your opponent.
So here is my unofficial list of possible choices:
Police Drone
Paragon City Police Captain
Longbow Warden 1
Arachnos Crab Spider Longfang
Contaminated -
I shall continue speculating.
Perhaps the gladiator is a Contaminated to celebrate the first villain group most of us ever fought. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to use this to get Isolator.
Other possibilities:
Honored Brute
Overseer
Galaxy
5th Column Mek Man
Gunslinger
Chief Mentalist
Headman Gunner -
Hmmm...
Could this be Longbow Warden 1 making its appearance? -

What about if I went in every day (assuming I wasn't pickling my kidneys) and every time I ordered someting I asked for no pickels and every time they put pickles on? At what point will you allow me to become fed up? That doesn't mean I don't like the burger, I'm just tired of having the cook pretend to give a sh*t when he clearly doesn't. Either give a sh*t like you say you do, or tell me you don't and I'll just take the pickles off myself.
[/ QUOTE ]
You are never going to find any employee that actually gives a sh*t about you complaining, Living.
But at what point does anger over poor service turn into harassment? I think EG changing her name to EvilGeko and continuing a vendetta on for 4+ issues does. I think you continue to post about how Castle is the "only good one" is.
[ QUOTE ]
How about having an opinion that is contrary to the the behaviour of this developement team? Are we allowed that? Clearly you don't feel so.
[/ QUOTE ]
Great for you, you have an opinion. I have one, too. But I don't reply to the devs like a 4 year old with mine.
[ QUOTE ]
Right... so, I'm assuming you think I'm wrong about the upcoming end drain "fix"? Is it still a "conspiracy theory" if you're right? It's certainly not a vendetta... I'd have to care about them personally speaking for that to occur.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yet you care enough about them personally to hate Statesman and label Castle the "good one."
And yes, it IS conspiracy theory.
But, who cares. You've long since worn out your welcome on these boards. I welcome the nerf that finally pushes you over the edge to quitting.
