so far im loving this thread takes me back.
heres some random things that jump out at me:
i remember being so excited when i4 was coming out,
but also so disapointed that hardly anyone else seemed
into it when it came out.
in face alot of my PVE friends hated it and were mad
it got added.
i showed up on test a time or 2, with my ill/rad puzzle factory.
i didnt know what i was doing at all but for the most
part i just walked all over everybody lol. other than a few
scrappers and blasters i could just stand still and let
my 24 (roffle) pets do all the work.
i remember people asking me what that green stuff was (rad)
SI was like elude lol.
i felt pretty pwns most of the time except when those Lions
Den guys on my home server would pwn me most
of the time ( they almost never let me join in )
i remember telling Crazy that 20 greens would beat everything. ( it seemed to work for me lol )
- finally getting to play in some kickball and
random matches with some Victory Pvp's
and there were mad that i brought my emp.
EMP were gimp to alot of ppl becuse the didnt do any
dmg and were 'squishy" lol.
i was told if i wanted to pvp i should make a scrapper.
my emp got farmed and i totally believed them,
altho i still wondered why support wasnt more powerful.
spines regen beat all. only some blasters were considered
worthy as a second best option. alot of pvp still seemed
to be centered around 1v1, and team matches tended to
use alot of peoples 1v1 scrapers and blasters lol.
except of course tribute who were pwning everything.
another time i got to join in i brought my stone stone thank,
then with taunt and presence.
we drew office and i fear and TP everything in site.
laser beam eyes was also auto taunt as was hurl boulder.
i was told never to bring that toon again or they wouldnt pvp me with me.
for some reason later on i began to use that same toon
in sirens call pvp almost exclusively.
i guess i liked the challenge.
epic battles with my stone tank and 6 EM brute.
lol jk, it was pretty one sided, but some of those FC were kinda fun.
any way at some point my ill rad got nerfed and i suddenly
had to learn to pvp, like have a decent build and learn to
move etc.
at this time people like Krole Rift SoE and STARDUST RAY
were invaluable in the advice they gave me on build and
strats.
these were Orig LD guys ( before the split and Pennance )
that showed me the ropes.
When villains and zones came out i left the arena somewhat
and began to zone pvp alot. mostly in zones.
this was when i still thought villains were going to end up more
or less balanced with heroes. i played my stalker my brute and my corrs alot. i joined a villain group called Original Sin.
Manstrid played kin. i played a brute lol.
we used to pwn in zones and did pretty good in arena too.
then villain epics came out and i was lol villains.
ive never even gotten one to 50.
also about this time Pennance left LD.
i applied to both and after a chat with Ray we both felt
i should push for LD.
LD accepted me in. and i began to learn what high level test
pvp was all about.
it was still mostly 16v16 cluster [censored] back then and that same week i joined a got thrown in a match vs annointed brotherhood.
i think we won i cant even remember. i was on my ill rad lol
and they told me to just jump around and irritate people,
maybe put some RI on a blaster or something.
it was the craziest thing i had ever done, but i had
totally felt like this should be done better.
"shouldnt my rad be on the guy we're trying to kill?" i thought.
and it didnt seem like blind was doing that much against people with mezz protection or breakfrees lol.
i also remember innerspike outkilling every blaster and other scrapper on his spines regin.
people were fed up in LD. alot were used to winning and after
pennance left didnt like that they werent so much a force to be reckoned with.
a few of them didnt like my crazy ideas either, that maybe
we should use blasters, buffed with emps instead of scrappers,
and maybe a rad should call targets.
(i had been reading the forums, and had seen what pennance
was doing)
some people even quit LD over the changes, beliving
that scrappers would still be king of the arena.
after the freaks beat us likw 100-2 ( roffle ) we lost a few more people. i was still so excited to finally be in a real test
team pvp SG that i wanted to stay and rebuild.
plus my head was just full of crazy ideas i wanted to try
and these guys were at the point where they were actually
willing to listen to me lol.
we continued to build and grow, and LD was getting backinto the swing of things.
however i was living a secret life, Original Sin and Lions Den
were bitter rivals on victory, and i was in both!
at one point we did a base raid ( lol again ) promptly followed
by arena action.
i was sneaky and was on teamspeak in original sin and Vent
for LD lol, and i recorded them both ROFFLE.. good times.
anyway soon OS split, and manstrid actually joined LD.
and soon after we picked up Sing.
sing was by far the most amazing player ive ever seen.
i have played with ajax, and aura, and lab, and ppl
like demon and ray a bit.
but sing was on a whole other level.
maybe its the microsoft sam voice, or something but that
guy seemed like somekind of CoH super computer.
it was like having city of data and paragon wiki in vent.
and he was the best ive seen on any given toon.
so extremely dedicated to imrpving his preformance
(and those around him ).
after LD got sing was when we really started to pick up steam.
he showed us what we had to do, and rift made us practice
it till we could do it in our sleep.
Also, one day lab came to visit us on Vent, and run a few
spike practices with us. I was still using my ill rad, and he
showed us why people ere using rad psy. it was a serious
eye opener for us.
Cuddles was also instrumental.
cuddles laughing on vent is so funny.
people used to get "so mad" when he would perma cage them.
he got " so mad rite now " when people wanted to nerf cage.
roffle, good times.
at one point we were all playing in WB one day, and
cuddles was on his flying sonic ( yes he had fly )
with vengenace just put into the build.
wow , it was unbeliveable what we could do with veng.
LD was starting to do really well, but guys like pennace always
had our number.
one time, just to toy with us i swaer, we had a fight that was like 7 v 4. 7 of LD started against 4 of them.
they pwnts us, and i mean bad.
we just could NOT figure it out. at one point tho cuddles and
i saw what was going on. little red flashing lights over there heads.
z0mg.
it was veng.
around this same time i was reading abot a PVE group
using stacked veng.
i think it was buffer overrun or pinball wizards or something
i dunno.
anyway they were some superteam idea and they had a token
dead guy, and they would all get stacked veng it was sick.
and while leveling up thru pvp zones ( was a decent way to
level at the time ) anyone whoe tried to pvp them
got wiped out.
this got me thinking... maybe we should do that?
as it turned out, Sing and Cuddles had been thinking the same thing.
in fact we started to think we were late on the bandwagon
and this was why groups had been pwning us all along.
We had also belived that groups were using macros as well,
and after learning about them, we decided not to use them.
we sent petitions to the devs and asked that macros be nerfed.
veng however, was a different story. that was a power in the
game.
well right at about this time, likely due to the PVE useage,
veng stacking got nerfed.
or did it.
we had gotten so used to synching up our spikes, that
it just seemed like a good idea to try and synch our veng.
sing didnt think it would work, i thought it would.
it did.
we startded gathering for veng all the time, and before long
everyone had managed to work it into their builds.
i dont think at the time we were thinking it was an exploit,
and we were honestly really paranoid that everyone was
using things like tier3 and lying, or macros and lying, so
we just said [censored] it, lets just do it.
i remember during the paranoid times a practice we
did with HVND. who we were friends with at the time.
We were so convinced they must be using macros
(in hindsight i doubt they were, just better than us)
so Mikey and i were trying to see if we could prove it in some
way. we bagan to hide in corners and what not to see if we
were still being targeted.
at one point, i ran under the glitch in perez and all of thier
blasters were trying to follow me thru the tress.
it was freakin hilarious.
after that HVND refused to practice with us ever again.
we werent even really serious but they took it very personally
for some reason.
Ld then went on our quest for number 1 and defeated all other SG we fought.
that last match vs HVND was totally amazing.
ill never forget manstrid rushing in to nuke
without accro and getting KB.
things went seriously downhill from there in that first match.
but LD managed to regroup and pull out the win with a last
ditch effort and a lucky well timed nuke by Sing.
it was truly epic to watch and to be a part of.
this was before officials, so it was even more for bragging rights only than it is now.
after LD left, i decided to join a "noob" group and teach
them what i could.
it wasnt long before r0x asked me to join NDX, a fledgling
pvp group and my home server, Victory.
i joined right away, thinking cool i can show them what i know.
that turned out to be a joke, since they were
already gathering for 6-7 veng like 3 times better than LD was lol.
there spikes were tighter too, i knew that this core group
would be a number 1 group before long, even without me.
But they were awesome fun to pvp with so I stayed, and
NDX got veng banned from officials in Our 1 and only match
lol. we remained undefeated
6, who was/is a monumental leader, stepped down,
and NDX split.
most went to freaks, i applied but got rejected.
I then loitered aruond my new home freedom untill
i got picked up by JAL.
I had lots of fun with those guys. Again they liked to try out
some different ideas and not always just do the same run and gun. people love to give alrays and psy and alot of other
ppl in JAL a hard time but i had fun pvping with them and i
think theyre pretty good.
sadly i didnt help them get to number 1 like a wanted,
velocity just had our number during my time there.
Not long after i joined jal putz and myk started telling me off discension with in the ranks and freaks camp.
they soon formed a new group victory reborn.
having played with putz in NDX and myk in LD,
i had considered the 2 to be old friends.
it was a tough choice, but i left JAL for VR.
i missed pvping with my old friends plus i thought we need
more groups on the playing field.
it was a blast playing in VR. putz's leadership is outstanding.
6 and ED's target calling is so on point its scary.
guys like ajax, aura, FIFI lab, are amazing on anything
they play.
VR was like playing on the dream team.
so there are somethings i remember
