Quote:INSANITY!You can make a new toon on a less crowded server and transfer later!
If people did that they'd be able to play right away and they'd have no excuse to come on the forums and throw hissy-fits about not being able to log onto Fre-<cough> their preferred server of choice. -
Quote:New players are forced to make their first character in Praetoria where everyone is. Vet players already know that almost everyone is going to be in Praetoria until the new wears off.Allow me to be the doomsayer...
What's going to happen to players who make alts in the regular starting zones? They'll find them deserted and unsubscribe. Also, their brethren in the new zone will arrive in the tainted Old World and find it such a letdown that they, too, will leave for the new shiny.
I bet we're down to one green dot by next week, with no teams to be found and Positron looking for work at Best Buy while Castle and Back Alley Brawler flip burgers at a Jack in the Box.
Doom.
Your attempt to "Doom!" has failed.

That may indeed affect whether or not the free transfers start tomorrow, but the free ones haven't started yet.

I always love it when Freedom gets greyed out and the forums are dripping wet with the tears of impatient Freedom residents.
I've been looking forward to this all month.

Quote:In order to get a free rename token first pick a destination server and check if the name is available on it. If it isn't simply transfer the character to that server and claim the token.Any chance of getting free Rename Tokens, (or whatever they're called - sorry I've just never been able to justify the cost of these), to minimize a bunch of unnecessary transferring = for people who just want to rename some characters.

Also (to anyone who's tried and knows...), If I were to transfer a horribly-named character that is the 1st rank "Leader" of a SG or VG, would I lose that spot to my alts OR to someone else that has alts in the SG/VG, who typically only logs in every few weeks or months?
(Or even worse losing the spot to some alt that hasn't logged in for years = literally, that I haven't booted in case just in they come back. I suppose I could just start booting en masse...)
If the name is not being used create a scrub character to hold the name and then transfer the character you want to rename to that server and claim your token.
Once you have your rename token you can transfer the character back to it's original server.
If for whatever reason you don't want to do this then cough up the $10. bucks.
They are called super GROUPS for a reason. It would be nice if we could invite our own offline characters. If your too paranoid to trust someone to invite one of your alts to the SG then maybe Massively Multiplayer Online Games aren't your cup of tea.Quote:This is just one of several things that the Devs seem perfectly content to leave as is = a major PITA - to people with only one account!
Of course, with 2 accounts - you can get around this and all kinds of similar headaches!Sorry, but relying on a semi-stranger's kindness (to get alts into SGs/VGs) and whatnot - simply isn't an acceptable solution IMO.
You can buy an unopened copy of CoH/CoV from Amazon for just $5 dollars. Hardly an expense.Quote:And now with GR (that I've bought), all the Booster packs (that I've bought), and the almost 6 years of Vet Rewards on my account = Trying to justify a second account subscription - just to avoid all these hassles & headaches that quietly nag at me when playing - is becoming a growing disincentive to play.
That's because they don't start until tomorrow.Quote:Oh, And FWIW - the free transfers don't seem to be working properly yet - according to various threads around here...
Quote:Free Character Transfers for a limited time only!
To take advantage of this new issue launch, character transfers within one set of servers (North American OR European) will be free from Tuesday, August 17 to Monday, August 23. This is the perfect opportunity for you to hop between servers depending on your mood or interests and meet other heroes and villains to enjoy brand new game features with! -

Quote:It's going to be like that as long as people insist that they can only enjoy the game on the most populated server and refuse to play anywhere else.I'm queued on Freedom, my main server. It's only been a few minutes so far,but I was wondering if this is just a temporary thing while they get GR settled, or is it always going to be like this from now on?
Eco.
We have 11 servers (NA) with identical content. If people choose to play in a sardine can then they have to suck it up and deal with the consequences. -
I'm not unsympathetic either as I was in the OP's situation 2 years ago, but I agree with you the blame is in the hardware on the OP's end.
-
Oh noes! Here's proof that the servers are all ghost towns. The game is DOOMED! do you hear?

DOOMED!
DOOMED!
DOOMED!

Dammit Oldeb! You just broke my sarcasm detector.
-
Even if it is good can we still move the Freedom players over to the French server?

Damn devs! Always trying to make the launch of a new product go as smoothly as possible.
Just who the heck do they think they are!?!

Quote:http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...45#post3105245During this period Server Transfers will be unlimited. So transfer as much as you want!
So transfer to your hearts content. -
Quote:While I don't doubt that they use pre-orders to predict the popularity of upcoming product releases, I have reservations that they count the money before the transactions are completed. To me that seems like very foolish behavior. That doesn't matter.
We have contracts, we've been paid, and we've delivered SOME of the goods/services. We still have to wait until the month of actual delivery of the REST of the services before we can realize the earnings of it. Much the same can be applied to CoH/CoV. Their earnings for the quarter the pre-purchase applied to MIGHT not show the full weight of that pre-purchase. It might not make it into the quarterly report until the full product is released. -
Quote:I went that route with a Stage Magician concept. Fire/Psi seemed to fit that concept nicely. No non-sensical powerset combinations. I'm not an RPer, and while some of my chracters have a background, many don't, yet their powersets have to make sense together. No matter how fun a, say, Fire/Psi dominator might look, I can't see any reason for the character to have both fire and mental powers (beyond something generic like "they had two mutations!"), so I won't play them. Power customisation has definately helped me here, but there's still some that I won't play.

I've been working on the idea of creating characters for specific zones that they protect. So when a certain hero reaches the appropriate level I turn off his XP and he guards that zone.
I have a Roman themed scrapper who resides in Cim, a punch drunk boxer in KR, and I've started a leprechaun tanker destined for Croatoa.
Let's see . . . Oh. When I'm on a robot type character I won't go into bodies of water. If it's before travel powers I go around, after I fly over them.
I have a Rad/Rad who only takes harmful powers because radiation is bad.
I have a character who is a magical golem made out of a Mystic 8 Ball who only says things like,
"Outlook not good."
"Yes. Definitely."
when talking to other players. -
-
Yeah I can see how one can easily come to that conclusion, but I was also drawing on some of the OP's responses I've seen in older doom threads.
-
Those weren't pre-orders they were pre-purchase. Money actually exchanged hands and goods/services were exchanged.

It's anemic in the sense that a huge portion of the playerbase qualified to be invited to the closed beta testing of GR, and once invited, we flocked to the test server to try out the new stuff as soon as possible. As a result we weren't on the live servers which gave the illusion that the population had dropped significantly.
