  1. Tonight I decided to toggle between my usual shows (NCIS) and SGU. Once again I'm uhm disappointed with the writing. C'mon that's how they chose to explain how they got another shuttle? I'd much rather have preferred them encountering another automated gateship and learning it had a shuttle that they could take for their own use rather than resurrect some characters we already wrote off as dead just to kill them for no better reason than the writers realized they screwed up by destroying the only shuttles Destiny had.
  2. I don't expect them but I would appreciate something along the lines of what they did last year.

Just curious, You don't think that 300 billion (or was it trillion) that was accumulating during the years prior to the market being added to the game had nothing to do with it?

I still laugh at the guy I saw this same thing happen to. This happened this past January in another MMO that launched in February. An RMT site got into this guys account and started spamming that games forums with their website and services.

    <pause while this sinks in>

YES! The dummy bought stuff from an RMT site for a game that was still in prelaunch open beta, and the game servers were getting erased before the game launched!

Now as I recall this guy had said in earlier posts he had bought at least three different copies of the game (minimum $150. spent) for the pre-order perks, and he also bought a lifetime subscription (another $230.). So he lost at least $380 bucks plus whatever he spent at the RMT site.

I can just imagine his Charlie Brown "AAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGH!" when he discovered his account was banned before the game went live. Stupidity like that deserves to be ridiculed.
  5. I think the comments that we both have seen are true. As to the rest, I'm not a programmer nor do I know how the devs assign people to fix exploits so I can't honestly judge how hard it is to fix these exploits but I do think the GM's could do a heck of a lot better job enforcing the rules.

I'd support this. They already have a precedent that keeps people from switching factions rapidly.

It's not good for the long-term health of the game. CoH has a pretty well established reputation as 'City of Exploits'..
That's funny cuz whenever this game gets brought up on other MMO forums I continually see people complaining how they quit this game because the devs nerfed their favorite exploit or how our GM's banned them for some (in their opinion) "trivial" EULA violation.
  8. I can believe that they are still around, but I don't notice them anymore because the first thing I do when I create a new character is set up my chat channels so the only chatter I see is from the private channels I've joined.

I agree. That is what I meant when I said it's not the message itself. Some people only think of RMT as spam but that's not the only kind of spam there is.

Oh and it's not just the "selling" that's spam, the "begging" is just as bad and includes people asking for everything from inf to team invites (PL meh!).

I've even seen a moron begging for Vanguard Merits and another for AE tickets. The character the Vangaurd Merit begger was on was only level 8 so he couldn't even get into the zone (it was still level restricted then) even if the merits were transferable.

EDIT: You know, it is actually a little more difficult to post quotes from two different people in the same post. Does someone have things like that stickied somewhere?

If that is what happened then I apologize for misunderstanding what he was attempting to do. (Bolded to indicate sincerity)

That's the way to go: spamming, grinding out prestige, more uncaring ceaseless spam, grind out prestige. It's SG building 101, fast track base building 101, How I built an SG base in 34 days by Howard B Jerk.
I am with Hot Mike, who has time to create a toon, start a team, chat it up, ask if anyone wants to join SG, quit team, start team, chat it up, ask if anyone wants to join SG, blah, blah, blah. Just start the spamming mills and watch the prestige roll in. I start SG's all the time and lord help any poor sucker logged in when I get a hankering for recruitment. That's the American way, high speed, high efficiency, recruitment. Like Hot Mike said leave the namby pamby chatin to Chuckles the Clown.
Stealth editing another persons post and adding a bunch of crap they didn't say is really stupid (especially when that post is in the same thread) because the original unedited post is available for everyone to see and requote.

This is what Panzerwaffen really said

Honestly, if I was looking for an SG, your recruiting tactics would steer me away from your group completely.

    Right.

No it isn't spam because I get it every 5 minutes. It's spam because 1000 people get the same message in those 5 minutes.

Also spam is not limited to RMT so don't try to confuse the subject by deliberately focusing on RMT companies. Their services are against the rules regardless of how they advertise whether it's

    Announced in a global channel
    Sent via tell
    Sent via email
Recruiting people to teams/SG's and telling them about the services
Advertised in the SG MOTD (Message of the Day)
Spelled out on the walls of a base in wall lights
Constantly being spoken by NPC's in an AE mission
Spelled out in corpses falling from the sky (done in another game)
Spelled out using chest symbols on disposable characters on a bunch of trial accounts

My point was this: if people have been abusing various ways (whether they are considered exploits or not) for Power Leveling large amounts of XP quickly for years then how could the latest AE thing in particular be a specific reason to justify a Double XP weekend moratorium? Bottomline the Devs seem to be technically "punishing" everyone for the actions of a handful of AE farmers they can't seem to control.

Also I would argue that the Double XP weekends aren't really just a tool the Devs use to encourage people to play during downtimes. They've run Double XP weekends during times when other new updates/Issues had already bolstered interest in this game.

I'm not complaining that I want another Double XP ASAP. I was simply pointing out the silliness of the idea that we should not get a Double XP weekend until the latest AE exploit is fixed. If the Devs now want to avoid giving us another Double XP weekend until all the applicable exploits are fixed then we might as well resign ourselves to never seeing one run again.

First off I honestly didn't think you were complaining that you wanted another 2xp weekend ASAP. I only thought you were chiming in with your perspective on the discussion. I'm sorry if my posts gave you another impression.

In hindsight what I should have also said was that I don't think the AE issue is the only reason we haven't seen more than we have this year. I'm guessing that with all the other stuff that we have/had going on this year the devs may have decided that there was enough events on the schedule that they could hold off on a 2xp until after they fiddle with the AE problem.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't get offended at being asked a question by someone else. When it comes to SG invites, my reply is always "no thanks" because I have two SG bases of my own to look after so all my characters go into my SG's.

Let me ask this question: if someone you don't know sends a tell asking if you'd like to team up, is that spamming? And if not, what's the difference? Both situations involve a complete stranger asking you a question completely unsolicited by you. Have we really gotten so insular as a community that all communication must be a certain way or it upsets us?

The content of the message isn't the spam nor does the number of people recieving the message determine if a message is spam. It's the speed at which the message is being sent out that makes it spam.

    For example:

Repeating the same message 100 times in 5 minutes is spam.

Repeating that same message once every 5 minutes is not spam.

  18. 8-10 NCIS after that I log onto the game and play for a couple hours.

Oh well. To each their own.
I wouldn't be too concerned. I've seen similar attitudes expressed by other players over the years and they either learn to change the way they express themselves in the game or they end up like the occasional poster that claims "The servers are dead!" because their attitude has alienated them from everyone on whatever low pop server they make their home. They can't seem to understand just how close knit the player communities are especially on the low pop servers.

No one is jumping to conclusions nor are they not reading the whole thread. We are well aware that the Mods have been in this thread and pruned some of the posts. The very first day you posted people provided you with links to a sale that was going on at a popular online store where the $40 dollar edition was being sold for $20 bucks, and although the sale continued until noon the next day for whatever reason you chose not to take advantage of the sale.

I do not even know if I will enjoy this mmo after a month anyways but for some reason you all insist on being jerks to me about my own opinion of what the expansion is worth, enough is enough back off ok?

And on the note about having to wait I never said I would not wait I said I need an online game to play, I will get bored only playing some of my single player games, so I was trying to find an alternative I never demanded it I asked nicely but you just threw it in my face like the jerks you are.

The correct meaning is I did not want to wait good god.

Yeah what kind of community goes out of its way to show someone where they can get a new expansion on sale for half price and less. That's not the type of behaviour that will endear new/returning players to the game.

No one is being punished. Holding off on a special event that they usually only throw out when theres a lull between events and issues or as a perk to a reactivation weekend isn't a punishment.

We've had a busy year that's kept most of us excited.

    1. Free transfers at the end of the Winter Event in January.
    2. Then the Spring Event.
    3. Then Issue 17 and Ultra-Mode.
    4. Then the Going Rogue Pre-Purchase with early access to two new power sets.
    5. Then Issue 18 and Going Rogue itself with more free transfers.
    6. Then the Halloween Event.
    7. Soon to be released I19.
    8. Shortly after that the next Winter Event.

I'll take a year like this last one over a 2xp weekend anytime.
  25. I'd say we all want the show to succeed. If we didn't care about it we would be getting frustrated and complaining about how things are being done. The show should be more popular because it started with a built in fanbase.
