Quote:And the Rogue Islands are farther South. They don't actually hafta make it snow lol, it'd be nice if they'd bring back the snow drifts tho....I mean Paragon is in a New England state, snow is a given in winter lol.

So using your geographical argument Villains wouldn't get to enjoy snow.Quote:Geographically, the Rogue Isles are a small chain of islands NW of Bermuda that run in a band 50 to 20 miles off the coast of the US. Officially known as the Etoile Islands -

Quote:You're right I haven't been keeping track which is why you seemed over the top.Hey, don't you dare lump me in with lesser ranters, you cad

You obviously haven't been keeping track of my strong opposition to the (in my opinion false) belief that 'New shinies are better than Revamps!'
I agree that they are new content myself, but I'm not going to say the only official response we've gotten is lame in this situation because I don't know what their restrictions are. (Time, budget, available employees, other projects, etc)Quote:Revamps ARE new shinies, on account of having new content in them! The only reason I've seen given by the devs as to why they haven't been revamping old zones is the incredibly lame 'Because it takes as much work to revamp an old zone as it does to make a new one'.
Personally I think Jacknasty sounds better.Quote:Well, thats all fine and dandy, but what about the utter dross thats still left over from the Jackanist days of cryptic? (Yes, I am fond of that phrase)
I hate them at least as much as you do.Quote:You know the missions Im talking about; Needless Fed Ex's, Hunt 50 carnies, Arcs that send you to every corner of the City and refuse to give you a mobile phone number (ok, the I19 transport fix has made this a little less horribad)
On this I think it's more the matter of opinion. Some I like. Some I'm meh about and some I flat out refuse to do. (I'm looking mostly at Mercy Island when I say that)Quote:Arcs that plain old don't make sense. All of the starting contact 'arcs' are not in fact arcs. The missions in them have next to no corrolation, and tend to be as mind numbingly dull as 'Defeat all, defeat all, Fed Ex, hunt, defeat all'. I just summed up Rik Davies mission in Atlas Park. ALL of the pre-Villains contacts are that bad.
I think you're being conservative when you only list 6 zones.Quote:I'll drag out the analogy I use every time this arguement comes up; the Game is like a car. A six year old car, in this case. The 'new shinies' are like a new paintjob, big spoilers, shiny wheels, rediculously loud exhausts. The Revamp stuff is applied to the important things. Like the chassis, drive shaft, gears, stuff like that. And, in CoX, those essentials are the core game. Yes, Praetoria is awesome. I don't contest that. It's also not the core game. It's a paid for expansion. You can drag out 'Oh, but GR brought new 1-20 content!' Yes it did. And its STILL not the core game. The Core game is the Isles and Paragon. And they are going rusty. We have...lessee...six whole, fully made zones in Paragon. Six. Zones. That have NOTHING in them, except the one off hunts, mission doors or other dross like that;
-Dark Astoria
-Boomtown
-Perez Park
-Eden
-Terra Volta
-Crey's Folly
There are six zones there crying out for content, a la the Hollows. Hazard zones with decent content, and over-arching plot and stuff to do in them.
I don't think that's necessarily a disconnect. We know they have told us they'd like to do these things, but once again we don't know what restrictions they are forced to work under. They don't have an unlimited budget and number of employees to work with. They are forced to prioritize what they work on.Quote:How can that NOT be considered new shinies? Not only does it save you having to build six entire new zones, but that times saved can be used to revamp the old content that is seriously showing its age.
That IS a disconnect. It makes perfect sense to revamp the old stuff and fix up the chassis of the game so that it doesnt rust. Because a car can be as shiny and pimped looking as you like, if its going rusty underneath and the engine needs a clean, then it ain't going to change till it's polished up and de-rusted.
I would love to see the type of game they could give us if they had a budget/manpower like a certain nameless 800lb MMO. -
Quote:The whole point (and I thought his point too with the enchantments) is that the buffer would be able to keep the buff on, but ALSO select who gets it. In other words, there'd be no need for people to keep distance like if there was a PBAOE speed boost power.
Instead, I would select the people that want it, buff them and it would just be on the rest of the mission (so long as I had energy and they stayed in range).
Someone mentioned that the problem would be they'd go out of range and you'd have to reapply it, but that's still better than what we have now. Either that or this maintained enchantment idea where the link is still active, so when they leave range the power is not effective, but becomes effective again when they come back in range automatically.
If you can come up with a way to do it that will minimize the negatives some of us have brought to your attention then thats great.
The only solution I can think of that would make the opposition happy would be the ability to blobk buffs like we can with Mystic Fortune, but that's a different suggestion. -
Quote:*Ahem*
HELL! SMEGGING! YES!
Ye gods, the bloody minded stubborness to not revamp the pre-Paragon Studios content simply makes my brain frag out. I mean, do a side by side comparison of the new content, and then look back at the old stuff.
The old stuff. Is. Awful. Horrendous. Crap. A one handed, mentally handicapped butt monkey could do a better job. Hell, I managed to do a better job of Azuria's starting 'arc' (her missions atm have NO connection to one another [See my Sig]) in one evening and a day. A simple, five mission arc that so far people have enjoyed, and thats not even using some of the tech I would have loved to have used due to not having access to Dev tools.
Honestly, people seem to have this total disconnect when anyone says 'Revamp'. You dont NEED to re-do the whole zone, for pity sake. I mean, Dark Astoria is such a fantastic zone, it has great atmosphere, it's genuinely creepy...and there is NOTHING to do there. At all! It's dead, deserted, wasted. Utterly wasted. Stick a trainer and store in the newly added field base, add a train of contacts, BAM! New content, minimal effort!
Seriously, am I the only one who gets this?!
Have you been hanging out with B_I and not taking your meds? Seriously.
The strongest opposition the OP has gotten to this idea is that some of us think that level 20-50 Praetorian content should take priority with updating the old zones in second.
And repeating something the devs have given us as an explanation why they aren't doing something faster isn't a "disconnect" it's simply sharing the only official information we have been given.
Don't pull a KittyKrusader, you're better than that.

Quote:And just to add some further information. Several years ago there was a particularly obnoxious poster on the forums by the name of KittyKrusader who religously professed to be the font of all knowledge when it came to programming because she used to write code for NWN. Her attitude is one of the ones that helped form the negative reaction people here still get when they see someone say they are a programmer or that they know how easy something would be to put in the game. The big thing is, since you don't work at Paragon, you don't know what kind of baggage they have. But no offense was intened to you - we frequently get people saying "That would be easy to do!" without knowing what would need to be done, because not only are they not a programmer/etc, they are not one working at Paragon Studios.
As a computer term, clipping is well know for being what it is - clicking however is something you do with a mouse; at least that is how most would see it. And how close they are... makes it sound like you were repeating something slightly wrong.
The "I'm a programmer" phrase has the unfortunate effect of putting people that remember Kitty on edge and unconsciously defensive.
(If Kitty has 50 posts left that haven't been deleted by the mods I'd be surprised) -
Quote:What, you just noticed what happened to ever single niche cable channel that existed 10-15 years ago are hollowed out husks of what they were are are now all about reality shows or scripted shows that have little to do with their original niche content?
There was a time friends of mine jokingly called the History Channel the Nazi Channel due to all the WW II documentaries about Germany and the war. Nearly all of that content is now gone, spun off onto the Military Channel which doesn't even get an HD version on my cable system.
Disney cartoons are now on Disney XD or some other Disney derivative. Same with toons on Nick or Cartoon Network (is Boomerang still around?).
Bravo use to have Opera and Broadway musicals (I watched the original cast version of Sweeney Todd on it), now it's thick with reality TV.
MTV use to have music videos 24/7 with older music spun off onto VH1, now it's reality shows with a few music videos on at 4am.
Country Music Television use to be the country music equivalent of MTV, last time I watched it they had pimp my semi-cab (which was kind of neat).
What happen is cable companies told the owners of those channels that they can't sell advertising on those channels to local companies due to their low ratings. The original idea is to be able to target unique demographics but "Joe's Plumbing Supply" either got driven out of business by Lowes and Home Depot or simply want their ad seen by the most people for the $, niche demographic be damned. So nearly all the niche networks of a decade or two ago have sort of become similar to one another in style of content. Content that is cheap to make but still draw more viewers, at least in terms of percent of overall viewers, than the content they originally had a decade or two ago.
SyFy is just the latest victim of a trend that started years ago and due to the success of it on other channels has finally been applied here.
This. -
Quote:In either case it is still going to cause the same problems. Players that don't want the maintained buffs are going to stay as far away from the buffer as possible which can get teammates killed, and some people will shun inviting people with those powersets. We've already seen examples of this with Emp players. The phrase "Rockin the Aura" usually refers negatively to someone having Healing Aura on autofire. No, the OP is essentially asking for Maintained Enchantments from Guild Wars.

Quote:Fix'ed that for ya.I would close it with them doing whatever it is their doing when suddenly Kaley Cuoco's voice breaks in, "Really, Eli?"
<cut to Eli and Kaley Cuoco in a bubble bath together>
Kaley: "This is your fantasy? To take a bubble bath with me while telling me about your role playing game?"
<knock on door>
Eli's Mom: "Eli! What are you doing in there?!"
<Eli looks towards door>
Eli: "Nothing, Mom! Can't I have any privacy!"
<Eli looks back towards Kaley only now she's Sgt. Greer>
Eli and Sgt Greer simultaneously: "Oh great..."

Because when they added City of Villains that faction doesn't have any lakes on any of their zones. So they stopped it rather than piss off the whole Villain community, and instead added new content where everyone can go during the Winter Event to slide around.

There are no messes to clean up. When a mob spawns after a present is opened it isQuote:Further, I clean up my messes when I open them, including the +3 mobs I get.
1. Level appropriate to the zone it is in.
2. Relatively stationary and doesn't go running all over the zone chasing the person that spawned it and thus can't be used to gank other players. (unlike the ToT mobs)
3. On a timer so they die when the present respawns.
4. Easily avoided by anyone watching where they are going.
There is no problem except in your own imagination. Nothing needs to be changed.
Too bad you chose not to follow you mothers advice.Quote:So another thing my mother taught me shall be passed on to you: don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. -
Just gonna say No.

That's right. Refuse to admit you're wrong and cast dispersions on the people who point out the flaws in your imaginary problem. From what I'm seeing your the only one here with an entitlement issue.

My mind went in a completely different direction, although I admit I like yours better.
I pictured Jerry Seinfeld waking up with a start and a confused look on his face which changes as he suddenly has an epiphany and says one angry word . . .
"Newman!" -
Quote:You're out of luck on the temp powers. One of the reasons people still love tham after 6 years is because they are only available during the special events. Being limited keeps them fresh and exciting.Greetings,
I now have an all year round toon that I want to play as my main toon. Mind you I've been playing said game for 15 months off and on! I have been fishing for a theme that might work for me and nothing seems more unique than an 'Evil Santa Lady'! Only problem is I can't permanently have a Snow Beast pet following me around! That would be awesome if I could get that! I can't forever have the snow ball throwing power, or the ring binding power. If I could have just those two abilities on this toon forever that would be great! Now since I won those gloves, hat, and boots they aren't going to vanish after the Holiday time of the game is over are they?
I wish We could AT LEAST get the Santa Belt if not the whole coat. I'm going to get the magic pack too because I'm going to create a Witch toon to set myself up for next All Hallows Eve (a.k.a. Halloween).
With all that said what do you all think about Halloween and Xmas toons being rolled all year round? You think I'll get tired of my evil Santa Lady? I mean she does have super strength and invulnerability. Would love thoughts and opinions. I've even though of trying to create a Legion of Yule Time Evil Santa Women!
The costumes however are different. We get to keep those once the character unlocks them. I have several characters that make regular use of them. Some are also holiday themed. -
I think this is just another example of what happens when people spends far too much time door sitting in AE farms. They forget how to play the game.

Quote:Apparently not.Well the science of steriod use along with the fiction of a soap opera.....
As to SGU i honestly didnt predict it to go beyond this season, i just wonder if they will be given the opprotunity to tie up the story or are we just gonna be left with them wondering space.

Quote:Don't forget how Laggy things get when theres a bunch of people at one location. Imagine how much worse it would be during a Hami Raid, Mothership Raid, Zone Events, etc if everyone had to deal with a dozen or more people running around with their buffs toggled on, on top of all the other stuff.Um... no thanks.
I'm just sitting here thinking about a "speed boost toggle." I'd much rather set and forget - and NOT have my END constantly drained by it. Aside from the mentioned technical issues. And, of course, getting mezzed and having them drop when someone may actually need them on (thus them getting the buff in the first place.)
No, no thanks.
Edit: Plus... speed boost? Heh. People complain now about having to take a few seconds to apply it. Toggle it? *SB* *Team runs out of range since you're not affected.* *toggles drop* *Team demands SB again* /rinse /repeat. -
At least now I can ask the buffer to refrain from saddling me with buffs I find annoying.
-
I recall a recent article where one of the SGU people said they could wrap up the storyline in 1 season. I guess now they have their chance.
-
Considering the security problem they had last year I'm wondering if what we are seeing now are an intentional result of cracking down or an unwanted side effect.
