There are still lots of supplies of GvE floating about.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And would you honestly stock a 2 year out of date game in your shop if you had one?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If it was marketed by the publishers decently, yes. Warcraft still has plenty of shelf presence, even in it's original box... That's because Blizzard market it aggressively.

That they're floating about just proves that retailers DID put them on shelves. As to why they didn't actually SELL, that would be down to not actually marketing it very well. A couple of website ads are not marketing. They need point of sale material, ads in actual print magazines, and paper reviews. You know, the stuff Blizzard do to push Warcraft.

I'm not expecting NC West to be able to match Blizzard, but they didn't even TRY to market the GvE pack anywhere offline, that I was aware of.

Sorry for this but, ANY box on the shelves would be nice.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But as GR says, NCSoft cannot force retailers to put a box on thier shelves.

I believe they had a lot of problems getting retailers to stock the GvE edition, I remember a lot of people complaining that they wanted to buy it but it wasn't in thier local shop.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And contrarily, they cannot stock what their suppliers don't have.

This new box will only have a limited run even in the US. There's a lot that goes into deciding whether or not to produce a box. For the US, this box makes sense for very specific reasons that do not currently apply here in Europe.

For us here in Europe, this boxed version does not make good economic sense right now. I know you all want to see new boxes on the shelves, however this specific box, at this specific time, is not the right box for us to be trying to convince retailers to stock.

    [/ QUOTE ]

See, now this just hints of some other box they ARE planning to release here, but doesn't actually answer any questions.

I'm sorry GR, but IMO, it's really not good enough. People who have played this game for YEARS deserve to see some sign of confidence in the EU product from NC West, and hints at possible things to come are NOT signs of confidence. I'm not blaming you, you can only tell us what you're allowed to tell us, but NC West are really not helping themselves here. All they're doing is making a section of their EU community think that we're being forgotten about more and more.

Question: What's the point of increasing the marketing role of NCSoft Brighton if you're not going to market one of your core products?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not releasing a new box at this point does not equate to not marketing the product at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course not; they're clearly marketing it, in the US. But what it DOES appear to equate to, is not marketing it in the EU.

I think it's an easy guess, actually.

    Consider:

    1) EU NC is now mostly marketing and sales.

    2) EU NC's budget has probably been slashed.

    3) EU NC know what's coming in the future.

The only reason I can conceive of for not spending the time and money to print, box and ship this new disk is... there'll be another one coming later on in the year that they are going to be putting on shelves, and they need to save budget for it.

    Expansion, perhaps?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's a possibility, and could be what these "other factors" are that GR is alluding too. However, not telling people what's going on + not releasing this Architect Edition box in the EU = more things for players to worry over.
  7. FloatingFatMan

    New Retail Box

A very unfortunate decision, and one which, unless we are soon told about these "other factors", WILL just foster more and more lack of confidence in the EU side of the game.

I think they should re-evaluate this decision, otherwise they're just showing they lack confidence in their ability to sell the game in the EU.

    Editing to add:

Question: What's the point of increasing the marketing role of NCSoft Brighton if you're not going to market one of your core products?

Answer: City of Heroes is not a core product for the EU market.

    VideoMode

CoH has some slash commands that allow you to record, and playback, on screen action. /demorecord is the one you're looking for, but check the help as they ARE documented. These produce text files which can then be manually edited by those savvy enough. There are some guides online if you're interested in doing it yourself, but it's really complicated stuff.

Seems I find myself in disagreement with you for once then FFM...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey, it's no biggy! People disagree on things all the time! I don't see any point in getting in to an argument over it though, so I think I'll just say this:

It's human nature to interpret things to fit your own world view. Many people will interpret the same information differently, so it's important to remember that they're probably NOT trying to antagonize you intentionally, they just don't see things the same way.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this topic TBH, as we're just going around in circles.

The game flags players as grey BY DEFAULT.

Nobody bothers to change it unless they're desperately looking for help with something. Grey might technically be labelled "Not Looking for team" in-game, but in practice it corresponds more to "I am not hidden and am not so annoyed by other people that I have changed my status to 'Not accepting Invites' - I am therefore a good candidate for recruitment".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hence why so many people use their search comments. If they're flagged as "Not looking", and their search comments say something like "Soloing", then it should be pretty clear that they're not interested. Assuming ANYthing else is just making yourself more comfortable with sending blind tells or invites, and has nothing to do with thinking that person might just have forgotten to change it.

Show some courtesy, leave them alone.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's a two way street mate.

If you REALLY don't want to team, why not hide? Then I won't see you, I won't invite you (with or without a tell) and everyone's happy. If you've got an, at best, ambiguous message then it's not surprising if you get the odd invite.

Sure if it's just a blind, I can understand it being problematic, but equally you and I both know that if you only want to team with specific people or your SG, it's simple enough to let those people know you're in game without the wider world knowing.

If you have a message saying "I don't want to team with anyone EVER" then chances are I won't invite you. But this is fundamentally a team game, and so if you're on the grid, and you show up in the search, without a categorical refusal to team, I might just invite you. If you really don't want to be invited to a team, I'd suggest the onus is on you to take the steps to prevent that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Assuming I or they actually remember to set to /hide, or they might have a perfectly valid reason for not wanting to hide. Personally, I wouldn't ever invite someone, no matter their search comments said, unless they were actually flagged as looking for team.

Take me for example... Sometimes I'll just pop on for a quick mission, I forget to set my hide status all the time, I leave my search status on the default "Not looking", and my search comment says "No blinds". I might just be on for 5 minutes, or I might be missioning whilst also cooking or something else, so am randomly AFK, I might be in the AH, or I might even be roleplaying with some friends. In either case, I'm doing my thing and don't want random invites popping up all the time, so why do people have to send them?

The answer is, of course, quite simple. Generally, people aren't interested in what other people want to do, they want to do what THEY want to do, and they'll bug other people no matter what until they find someone else that'll do it with them. It doesn't matter what you put in your search comment, or what your teaming status is, people WILL ignore it (long proven), and will send you blinds, or tells, unless you're hidden.

For what it's worth, if I see a tell, I *will* reply to it politely 99.9% of the time. But if I don't see it, don't be getting stroppy if you don't get a reply. After all, I didn't ask you to bother me, did I?

If they Vant to be Alone so badly why they playing an MMO?
People forget to update their status regularly.
You might be soloing and I might invite you to form a team. It could be that having gotten an invite it might be just the mission you want to do. You can either join, or decline - but I'll be polite when I invite you so where's the problem?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Some people forget, some people don't. Why assume they're one of the forgetful ones, and then end up annoyed when they either ignore you, or tell you to bleep off? You're the one that bothered them when they clearly said they didn't want to team.

As for playing solo, sometimes people just want to play solo, or are doing RL stuff at the same time, or a billion other reasons. Just because you're playing an MMO, doesn't meant you HAVE to team. Show some courtesy, leave them alone.

I agree with Carni. "Soloing" in the search comment means exactly that. If you send them a tell or invite anyway, you're just being rude and pushy.

  23. [ QUOTE ]
thing was i read on the internet that other NCsoft games have similar problems. I suspect its a vista problem which is why the updated drivers didnt sort out the problem and infact made it worse.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I really rather doubt that it's an "NCSoft" game related problem, as plenty of other games have had this issue, and NCSoft games don't all share the same game engine anyway.

If you read the article included with the hotfix, the reason for the crash is evident. The cause is a combination of factors in the WDDM driver model that Vista uses, and GPU companies like NVidia not following the guidelines fully.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
ive set up and installed that hotfix SO far it seems to be stable ill let you know if it all goes belly up. I dont understand why vista didnt automatically install this hotfix in my patch update Autoupdater. Seems incredibly bizare that this kind of known problem wasnt included in the existing patchs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not applied by default because technically, the hotfix is a beta (All hotfixes are generally classed as this until they're rolled into a service pack), and also because this problem only affects a smallish number of Nvidia users.
