  1. Posted for Shadowe:

    ************************************************** ********

Speaking as someone who plays a character who technically is a black hole (for example), this is a tricky point. I guess it helps that Richard doesn't like to kill. At all. But this is a war.

From my point of view, then, having a toon who is emminently capable of wiping out entire battallions of enemy troops wouldn't make for a good story, so I'm going to be playing on Richard's psychological barriers against causing death - he always has limited himself in this way, and I see no reason (at the moment) for him to change the policy.

Naturally, for plot purposes and advancing stoylines, it might be useful to do it a few times. I don't know. I'll be playing it by ear.

  2. Good question.. How IS Grav Mistress going to deal with it?

    /me sniggers!

You dont have to kill to help win a war.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But you will though. If you're involved in combat during the war, you won't be able to avoid it. The zig won't be able to hold the hundreds of thousands of "arrested" Rikti, and if you don't take them out; they'll take you out.

    Simple question, them or you?

I think they should add some realism and have the mediport system go offline. Afterall, infrastructure such as that would be one of the first things targetted by an invader. Have triage units dotted around the zones during the world event, like in the safeguard missions, and you res at those instead. You could be picked up by paramedics and driven there, just without the animations so no different to now really, but it would add realism!
  4. Posted on behalf of Shadowe, who's still beseiged by the Great Firewall of his Work!

The upcoming (and as yet unfinished) retirement of Richard Huntington at Huntington Technologies (while still retaining his role on the Board of Directors with Huntington International, of course ) couldn't be coming at a better time.

He intends to become a full-time hero.

This event has been in the offing for a month or so now, I just haven't finished it, but things are proceeding apace in his quest to 'rediscover' his humanity.

He didn't take part in the first war, simply because he didn't have any powers. But this time? Shadowe will be one of those to stand tall, stand proud, and take the war to the enemy, best spoken in the immortal words of Dylan Thomas:

Do not go gentle into that good night,
    Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be [censored],
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
  5. I think there's going to be some interesting RPing going on whilst street hunting in RCS too...
  6. You think Heroes for People was a riot? I lost actual friends during the Requiem War plot due to things going on away from the forums.
  7. It's was a roleplay event only, nothing game wise but it DID affect nearly every roleplayer in one way or another.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
I think though that i10 will give us a great opportunity to take our toons in a new direction - whether they "find themselves" and prove to be true heroes, leaders, compassionate, cowards etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

For some, that happened during the Requiem War last year.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Ah - did I forget to mention that the sight of Solar Flare running headlong into a huge mob of Rikti to get utterly smeared into a sticky goo a hilarious and side splitting sight strong enough to encourage High Burn into believing that Solar Flare really is a suicidal maniac?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just thought I'd fix that up for you there...
  10. Problem is, will it be POSSIBLE to ignore? In RP plots, if we don't like them, it's easy to ignore as they can't affect the game world our characters live in, but this is a massive game world plot. Ignoring it might NOT be possible.

Which means our future RP direction is going to be at least partly out of our control.
  11. The length of time it goes on is part of my concern too.

I suspect the world event for Issue 10's launch will last a couple of weeks at the most, then the Rikti will be 'contained' within the new RCS zone. But it's still going to have a huge affect on the game world, as the fight will probably continue for... well... forever I guess!

So sooner or later we'll probably have to ignore it.

BTW: The world event is very likely to screw up GG roleplay for a while, as it's not a "safe zone" protected by police drones.

There's other things to consider too. What about the rest of the world? In the last invasion the entire planet was invaded, will the same happen again?

BTW: No spoilers is a good thing Stalingrad! I don't so much want to know what people will do, but more to make them think about how it will affect them!
  12. So, Issue 10 is going to have an enourmous impact on Roleplayers I think. No longer will we be able to stand around chattering about random innanities whilst a war rages on around us; not if we're really heroes anyway!

So, how do you think it'll affect your characters? Some of you won't kill, well I've got news for you, it's WAR and it'll be kill or BE killed; but that's going to have a huge impact on your characters!

In the Requiem War, the killing tore Miss Ellie up so much emotionally that she ended up in shell shock, almost catatonic for a short while. It took her a LONG time to recover. When war comes, will she once again don her cape to fight for freedom and survival, or will she run and hide? These are questions many of us will have to answer for our characters.

How do you think it will affect YOUR characters? Will you stand and fight? Will you run? Will you ignore it completely, or maybe something else entirely?
  13. Indeed, Kind of a shame really, it was interesting in there for a while.
  14. You could try turning up at GG from 9pm, or Pocket D from.. whenever it starts... But if I were you, I'd look up some of the RP SG's that post in this section.
  15. I think most of it has moved to private locales now. GG is, alas, a shadow of its former self. Apologies to it's current attendees, but GG used to be full of plots and excitement and heroes discussing their exploits; and now it's full of kittens, poodles and cuddling. This, IMO, explains why not many go anymore, including me (except for a random drop by).

Pocket D was OK for a while, but has an awful lot of tools of late. I've stopped going there.

Most seems to go on in missions, SG bases, or random spots around the city these days.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I've never understood certain characters 'not being involved at all/not acknowledging a plot' - perhaps someone could explain this to me?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Without trying to cause any kind of argument, the main reasons this happens is personality clashes and stylistic differences. There have been, in the past, some quite unpleasant clashes between groups of roleplayers, (and I cannot claim innocence in that regard either), and it's led to lots of unpleasantness over the last couple of years.

Several of my friends have left the game due to it, and some are no longer friends because of it. I don't RP much in game anymore either. Pretty unfortunate, and in some ways, rather childish too; but that's human nature for you.

Constructing a timeline would be pretty complicated, what sort of information would you include? Everyone would want their own plots, where they touched on public knowledge at least, to be included; so cataloging such a thing would be a rather major task. Not the least because these days a lot of things just don't get posted in the forums. Compare the GG thread 18 months ago with the current one for example. The old one had multiple updates and discussions of plots every day; the new one is just... random.

@billyhorrorshow, mostly because any drama like this just goofy.

Though now I'm curious to know what the hell a forumite is and what a smurf cartel smuggles into the country. Aren't we all Forumites or am I a Forumian?

Well orgionally it was just a term used when talking about forum users, then somehow it became a term referring to a small number of posters. Not sure how though.

But not by those who are considered forumites. Those outside are the ones who started calling us a clique and grouping us together.

It's also bringing up something that HAD blown over for the most part.
  19. OK. Me and Z as Riff Raff and Magenta?

    Perfect!

hmm also need to work on my russian accent typing.

Talk to Red Commissar, he's an expert!

Just don't make the mistake of swapping every single S with a C, like another player does/did. It looks really stupid, makes it near impossible to understand what you're typing, and is completely wrong anyway!
  21. [ QUOTE ]
So far we've had the hero community divided (Heroes for people), Epic struggles (Requiem war), evil underhanded villainy (Tempest Virus and the kings row riots) and just ordinary villainy (Chronodyne).

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's just in your experience though. There's been a LOT more go on since the EU launch than that; some of it is chronicled on the GG Wiki. Most of it wasn't world changing as such, but there were some pretty big plots that would be common knowledge to a lot of heroes.

But getting all RPers to agree on a consensus; that's not going to be easy and there's only so much that can be explained as a "alternate dimension". Take the trigger for the Requiem War for example; the kidnapping and torture of Miss Ellie (My main). That took place in the current game world and was the main trigger for kicking off the larger Requiem War plot. Does that mean the war took place in another dimension? Not to my characters it doesn't, yet some consider it as being so. The only way to resolve that is to essentially not discuss it.

No one minds a newbie, it's when they start mixing IC and OOC, and going a bit overboard with "evil" that difficulties arise.

    [/ QUOTE ]
See I'm the opposite...I stopped going to Pocket D because I once got ridiculed for being steretypically evil, when I was just being a jerk to heroes. Isn't roleplaying a bad [censored] villain allowed? Plus I dig golden age comic books. I want my good guys good and my bad guys bad. Not all hanging out together in a night club But I guess we all looking for different things from the game, each to their own.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Roleplaying a bad<bleep> villain is perfectly fine; but what we often get are people going on about gutting people and ripping them apart and doing all sorts of thoroughly nasty to other people. Quite frankly, a lot of people don't want to hear that kind of thing and people who do it frequently find themselves ignored by most everyone else.

If you think about it; hearing about all sorts of nasty crimes in Pocket D is a measure in frustration, especially for heroes. Their IC morals would require them to do something, but they simply CAN'T. So on a general basis, be as evil as you want; BUT people won't appreciate hearing about it being just randomly bandied about.
  23. No one minds a newbie, it's when they start mixing IC and OOC, and going a bit overboard with "evil" that difficulties arise.
  24. Ye gods! I really must rescue the poor girl from WoW...
  25. [ QUOTE ]
On the subject of elitism: Being an elitist is looking down on one part of society and refusing to see another sides story (it's my way or the highway syndrome), this did become most clear during the forum split with the people for heroes plotline, some people of BOTH sides refused to see the points that some people were making and come to a friendly conclusion. So people on both sides could be labelled elitist.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just as a point of note, that plotline isn't the first time the RP community has schismed, and it won't be the last; you can be sure of that. Not trying to doomsay, but these things are cyclical. I think it's about the third split I've seen since being here.

    [ QUOTE ]

If you point blank refuse to help (even giving just small pointers in /t quickly) a ROOKIE who is blatently there to try and improve, then your an elitist. Since there is one thing that this RP community needs, to be able to stick together for a change instead of yanking itself apart as we constantly seem to do. Teach those rookies that wish to be taught otherwise they're going to think the RP community on CoX sucks as much as it does on WoW.

    there...all done...

    [/ QUOTE ]

When you've been accused dozens of times of elitism when trying to help people in the past, does that give you incentive to go through it again? No, not really... Quite the opposite in fact. At the end of the day, you cannot tell how a person is going to react to "teaching"; and could quite easily jump down your throat for trying. So, once bitten, twice shy.

Kind of sad really, but it's the way things seem to work. We older RPers (I use the term as in those of us that have been here a long long time) have had it happen to us several times. It happened to some of those that did it to us, and now it looks to be the turn of the newer generation.

(Please note, this is a generalisation. I'm not trying to point any fingers at anyone, or burn any crosses or anything; it's simply an observation.)
