Quote:That's what you ARE saying. All the time and energy the devs spend time on Trapdoor and all that he represents is time and energy they won't be spending on the aspects of the game I like. So there. How would you feel if I said that you should have part of the game you enjoy taken away because *I* don't like it?

I already dropped all Marvel titles except for the main Thor book, which for some reason is still fun for me to read. And I've never been a Thor fan! What's up with that?

Quote:So...We can't have the game evolving now, can we? How much longer will the game stay viable or relevant if everything they release is just a variation of the same old crap they've been releasing for 6 years?
CoX has been crap for the past 6 years, eh? Dude! Why didn't you say something the FIRST YEAR? -
Quote:According to the Paragon Wiki, the bifurcations are HIM teleporting himself into 'multiple places at once'. So when there are 45 bifurcations lounging about, they are each and every one HIM. Simultaneously. They're not really clones, or even echoes or after images - they are HIM. In multiple places. All at the same time. And this somehow increases the regen and damage resistance of the one with the name 'Trapdoor' floating above his head until and unless you defeat all the other bifurcations which are HIM existing simultaneously in a different spot but which for some reason don't gain the same benefits from all the bifurcating as the one with the name 'Trapdoor' floating above his head.I agree that the clones spawn way too fast now.. maybe lower their HPs to compensate?

No, it's more like that episode of the Incredible Hulk where at the end J.R. comes out of Mrs. Muir's shower and we find out that David Addison was a car the whole time.

Quote:That's similar to my feelings toward Inspirations. Often, our heroes just aren't good enough without a little... bump... toot... snort... splash... hit... taste... or whatever to get them through the tough missions. Just. Plain. Not. Good. Enough. Can't cut the proverbial mustard. Even with all those enhancing enhancements.Using Shivans feels like cheating (because, really, it is -- *you* aren't uber, that stupid walking Jell-O mold is)
Alternately, one might view the 'City of Heroes' as a stage upon which strange otherworldly creatures known as Insps use so-called Heroes to perform their insidious rituals - but to what end? The world may never know...
Looking at it from another angle, wouldn't it be cool if, say, when we used a red inspiration, there was a cool sound effect - bloop bloop bloop! - and our toons got BIGGER, signifying their enhanced damage potential?
Ahem. Ah. Okay. Back to the Trapdoor Man discussion. -
I did not request it and both my grandmothers are dead so it's unlikely they requested it. As for any difference between the new stuff and the old, our characters' foes have been getting stronger along with our characters since level two, and we have been slotting our characters with various types of enhancements in hopes of gaining an edge over those foes for years now. Is it not so?

So far:
Electric/Ice Tanker w/Incarnate Damage Boost (sure wish I'd gone with recharge) equipped: woa, dude! If I hadn't had a bunch of greens and large oranges going in (alas, no purples as I didn't think to buy any beforehand - alas! - someday, maybe, our heroes will be good enough on their own that they won't need to rely on 'Heroes' Little Helpers'.) he'd have died pretty much right away. As it was, he only postponed it for a few moments. All her little snow buddies were gone and she was at about 1/3 health when he finally fell - no more greens, self-heal still recharging. On the second attempt I loaded him up with small purples and popped four of them before attacking - and she nearly got him again! I noticed that his smashing resistance, normally at 78%, was down to 8%. Anyway, with the help of purples, he eventually prevailed.
Rad/Sonic Defender, level 23: Piece of delicious and moist Sugar Frosted Snow Cake and not a single inspiration needed.
Electric/Storm Controller, level 23: Flawless Victory! Used three small blue inspirations. I have to wonder, though, if she was bugged - she never closed for a melee attack even though my troller was standing just out of melee range. I can't believe he kept her held and/or immobed the entire time. Well, she did get off some ranged attacks and right before she fell she took a few steps forward. I dunno, something felt off about it.
Mind/Electric Dominator, level 23: Flawless Victory! However, she was running all over the place trying to attack my Dom, who was hovering out of melee range. Never could get her pinned down - as opposed to her just standing there vs my troller - which reinforces my notion that something was bugged about her in that battle. Used three greens this time.
Widow w/Incarnate Accuracy Boost equipped: Her first attack knocked off almost half my Widow's health. I kept attacking and *thought* I was doing well (even though my attacks were recharging at a glacial rate) and then THIS happened:
Lady Winter slashes you with their Ice Sword for 409.61 points of lethal damage!
Lady Winter freezes you with their Ice Sword for 671.76 points of cold damage and slows you!
And that was the end. Second attempt: 2 small purples and an orange, 3 medium greens and a small blue won the fray and the day. My biggest hit was:
Your Lunge hits Lady Winter for 294.9 points of lethal damage and slows them slightly! -
When I was fighting my way through the all those clones on my Widow, they were often 'paired up' - two in one spot - which suggests they do spawn according to a set pattern. At that time I thought maybe he summoned them in pairs - since they were not an issue with my previous two runs on the arc, I hadn't really paid any attention to them. Later runs proved that to not be the case.

Ya know, I'm starting to wonder if ol' Trapdoor is as buggy as the forum software (waves at whoever hasn't managed to fix this thing yet - logged out twice today, thank you very much). I watched the video of the dark/dark corruptor taking him out very quickly, so naturally I got MY dark/dark corruptor and tried it.
Well.
Even with a Dark Servant *and* a Fortunata Mistress also attacking and my corr going after the clones ASAP his health bar might as well have been made from cast rodinium, adamantium, and a day old Kraft American cheese single.
I finally just said to HELL with it and did something else.
Flashback to - pre-patch - when my WS and a single fluffy kicked his butt. And now we have not fully slotted controllers defeating him in ten seconds or less and my guys who, even though slotted for damage, can barely scratch his paint. Ah, well. -

Quote:Here's my scientific analysis of how it's gone for my guys so far:I was going to poke him with the Mk III scanner, and I didn't do it. I haven't fought him with anyone who has an Energy attack type, just lots of Dark, Fire, Cold and Lethal or Smashing.
Unless someone beats me to it, I'll see what I can dig up tomorrow.
(Pre-patch)
Electric/ice tanker - wham bam oh gosh that lava looks painful. Bifurcates? What Bifurcates? There were Bifurcates?
Cold/ =
WS - zap zap - owie! - go fluffy go! Zap zap, yay. Did he what? Bifurcate? Eww. Look, his personal habits are none of my business I'm just here to make sure he doesn't hurt somebody.
Negative =
(Post-patch)
Widow - swish swash swish, ouchie. Swish swash swish, ouchie. Say, this isn't going well at all. All right, clear out some of these clonely guys that are just standing around looking... clonely? Right. Clear clear clear. Now, Trapdoor, back to business! Swish swash swish, ouchie. Grr. Clear out some more clonely guys. Swish swash swish, ouchie. GRR! /e Roy Orbison: Only the Clo-o-o-o-onely... now, Mr Trapdoor, it's YOUR TURN! Die, die, die! Lesson learned the silly way: kill the bifurcates.
Lethal =
Energy/energy/fire blaster: - pew pew pew! Damn, just flesh wounds! Sigh. Bifurcate roundup! Pew pew pew - ow! Like a Phoenix from the ashes... Pew pew pew! Phooey. Bifurcate roundup! Pew pew pew - ow! Grumble grumble. Pew pew pew! Bifurcate roundup! etc. until eventually, victory.
Energy/Smash =
Ice/wm - thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate thud thud bonk bonk whack-a-bifurcate etc. until eventually Trapdoor fell into the fire and couldn't rebifurcate in time to prevent the thud thud bonk bonk of doom from pounding some fear of thud thud bonk bonk into his thick skull.
Smash =

It would be most illuminating if I could fight him again with my electric/ice tanker and WS, as their relatively easy victories occurred prior to the last patch. -
Quote:Hmm, the main difference I see in our power trays is, you have Hasten and Tough, and what appears to be Aid Self. Clearly, those three powers are overpowered and should be nerfed! Here we go, I just got finished with this run. The quit team you see was me getting there the first time and going hmm why not up the diff instead of spawn size to see if I could still beat him.

Quote:That's the result of four defeats with two trips to the Hospital. He's a busy little beaver, our friend Trapdoor.Oh, I wasn't doubting you in the least. I appreciate the screenshot nonetheless, but I did believe you. I'm just more than a little boggled at the difference in that and what I experienced.

Quote:That boggles my mind. I've never faced more than five, and probably usually less than three. I've taken him down with as few as one produced.
I wasn't under the impression that he stopped producing them, either. The really low Bifurcation count occurrences were on characters who were stomping his face in. -
OMG I think I got one!
I did! I did got one! The orange code just to the right of and a little above center.
Cool,thanks theOcho! -

Silly, you say? Silly? That's your opinion, sir or madam! I suppose you are entitled to it. I, however, happen to think more highly of our beloved devs. Sure, Trapdoor's ability to summon a seemingly infinite supply of regen-buffing clones may seem to smack of overkill at first glance, but clearly it's part of a greater plan to maximize each and every players' maximum level of fun. Don't you understand how difficult it is for the devs to create a challenge that will challenge all players without challenging any of them beyond their capacity for challenge? Don't you care about all the hours of testing and retesting, all the 'Hey, try this!' and 'Aw, hell, that doesn't work!' and 'Woo hoo, got it!' the devs must have put into creating not just this character, but this mission, this arc, this entire system? Just stop for a moment, stop right there where you are right now, and think of it. All the sweating! The slaving! The sacrificing! All just for us. And why? So that we can, for a brief, shining moment or two, or three, maybe four if we are unemployed or on vacation or independently wealthy, in which case five would not be unlikely, set aside our real lives, whether fulfilling or not, pleasantly overflowing with sunshine and roses or drab and dreary and drenched in self-deprecating gloom or just sort of going on and on in a monotonously monochromatic gray funk, and have a little fun and be entertained, all for a very small and reasonable fee. So, no, sir (or madam). I don't think it's 'silly' at all, and I, for one, will not sit here and listen to you badmouth our beloved devs!
Gentlemen!
