I recall 5 hours. Real time...not play time...

That was the question! Thanks for the input!

Do the +Regen/+Recovery Unique IOs (Regenerative Tissue, Miracle, Numina's Convalesence) stack with themselves? They are/were listed in game as having a 120 second duration...

The best way to deal with Ghost Widow (in my experience) is to have a Tank Taunt her at range. If the Tank isn't close (and Taunt actually hits), she won't use her AoE heal. This weekend, we had a "bad" pull that brought Black Scorpion, Mako and Ghost Widow. Luckily, Widow hovered above us while we took down the other two. We had an easier time when we brought them back to the boat...do the Longbow folks on the boat add perception/+to hit?
Also had pretty good luck using PA to tank Recluse until a tower or two were taken down. The best anti-repairman power we had? Burn...go figure... -
I was running on a Fire Tank last night...granted I had great support, but I only went down fighting the last AVs...I'm not sure if it's a question of which Tank to bring, but rather how many to bring. If there had been another Tank, it probably would have been a little easier...just my two cents...

Shiney 5 x 5? lol wuh?

Whedon speak ftw!

Actually, Weldon stole the '5 x 5' part from Aliens.

Actually it's an old aeronautical term...5 by 1 means the signal strength is strong but the transmission is unintelligible, 1 by 5 means the signal is weak but you can understand what is being said...5 by 5 means that you are good on both counts (strong transmission signal and you can understand what is said). Think it like this:
"Delta, Charlie, One, One, Zero, Niner, this is Philadelphia tower, do you read?"
"Roger, Philadelphia. This is Delta, Charlie, One, One, Zero, Niner. I read you five by five" or "loud and clear".
The Shiney bit is solo Whedon... -
Don't discount the other tanks either...believe it or not, my Fire/Stone took out a Cyst about two weeks ago. Used a near identical system to what you outlined in the guide. Between my self heal and Burn (yup...Burn), it was taken down in fairly short order. The fear from Burn actually worked to my advantage, the unbounds and the other mobs would head for the hills giving me time to recoup...and the Cysts don't run.

The entire poster series is my screen saver. My desktop? Sometimes the best solution to morale problems is just to fire all of the unhappy people. Those things are great!

You have no idea how relieved I am to hear I'm not the only one who made a screensaver (for work, of course) out of their demotivational poster series!

Erm...do your co-workers give you funny looks too? -

See more "people are morons" and we are so smart comments. Even "IF" it's true, what good is it to post it? Only the really "SMART" people are gonna read it right? To post these here are useless because the group that might need the info will not be reading it and the ones that read it don't need it. Does it just make you feel better about yourselves? It all goes back to trying to fix the problems instead of complaing about them.
And to Daemongelous, when the group said "nice heals" did you take the time to explain that you did'nt heal them, but rather protected them. At least they noticed something was going on.
Just lets please keep the forums for pertinent and helpful info.

Maybe "stupid is as stupid does" was a poor choice of words. "Monkey see, monkey do" would have fit, but I'm sure somebody would have felt it insulting to monkeys...
The point is, if the team leader (or other team member) feel that there is "no way we're gonna beat this without a healer", then the team is probably doomed to fail from the beginning. Often, the problem lies in the tactics (or lack thereof) the team is attempting.
And for the record, I do make suggestions in game. However, I will not attempt to force/brow beat (in game at least...on the Forums? The gloves are off!) another player into playing differently. I make...suggestions. "You know...we have enough control and damage in this group that we probably don't need a heal." When the reply is: "Wat!! U n00b!1!! H3alorz is the ROXXORZ!!!!!1!!!eleventyone!!" I sigh and click the quit button, because we're probably boned to begin with.
I just don't like teaming with that mentality...does that make me an elitist snob...if the shoe fits...I guess... -

They are a conflict of ideas, with intelligent people who know (or think they know) what is going on, and stubborn or stupid people who believe they are right untill you prove them wrong.

I don't mind people who believe they're right until you prove them wrong. The problems are the people who believe they're right even after they've been proven wrong.

The basic problem is that you expect people to be clever and reasonable, while in fact most people are morons. And there are so *many* of them, it's a never-ending battle. I play a superhero on the CRT, but I lack super-patience in real life. I tried the "explain" route a couple times and it didn't work so well. I tried the "not going to shield" route and it brought the point home quickly, but didn't leave me with terribly happy teammates. So now I don't try, and my FF def only comes out on request and for the occasional Hami raid. (And Storm Summoning, the OP's hero-side powerset of choice, is even worse to explain.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Couldn't have said it better myself. The reason the OP used the other games as a reference is...well...there are a fair number of folks out there who came from those games with the expectation that the ATs would perform and be utilized exactly as they were in the games they were coming from.
As I haven't played any of the other MMOs, I can't comment on the validity of her statements. However, "stupid is as stupid does". If a new player comes to the game and the people they team with only recruit Emp/Defenders because "without a Healer we're screwed"...it will most likely skew that players view on what a Defender is capable of, which only serves to perpetuate the cycle and mentality of RUH3l0R...
2 more cents from me...guess I'm up to 4 now... -

Now, I'm not saying we're all obnoxious. In fact, on occassion, I strive to be helpful. This FAQ is not one of those times, but *still*, if it *were*, you'd know it. You'd *love* me. You sick sick person. But we, the established player base, by which I of course mean, the people who agree with me, and not anybody else--we aren't always in the mood to teach people about DOs and give enough advice for someone to actually find the infromation useful. Them's the breaks! You play the game to relax (probably), and teaching people how to stroke the mink in just that certain way that irritates the fur-is-murder crowd the most isn't relaxing. It's very stressful. I mean, for crying out loud, these people probably aren't even aware of what kind of hat most accentuates your snotty self-satisfied expression.

I couldn't stop laughing for twenty minutes after reading this paragraph...I'm not sure why...

Thanks for posting in the CoX boards. I could care less for what happens in WoW and all the others MMO's or for that matter D&D or any other game experiences you may have. Keep posts related to this game only please and do not assume to know where other gamers develope game styles. Maybe the less than godlike players that have more things to do then play to your preferences don't want to spend time finding out if that(insert any other def/troller) knows what they are doing either. I've seen so many statements that nobody hates emp or healers or whatever but most of these Guides?(rant) all seem to be very dicouraging to anyone that dose'nt share your views. I am new to the game and i like the forums because they do contain some very good information but unfourtunately most are like this one. And big shockers, I know I'm not going to be the popular guy here and I don't really care. Please leave the forums for useful info.

Um...perhaps you should invest in a sense of humor. If the post upset you so much...why was it "worth" your time to read it, let alone your reply?
Besides, she speaks the truth! Don't believe me? Roll up an Emp Defender and concetrate on taking more powers from your secondary than your primary and see how many times other players refer to you as "teh gimped n00b". Or roll up any Defender for that matter and see how many /tells you receive asking the infamous question...R U H3L0R? The point she was trying to make (I believe) was that just because you are a Defender, you are not strictly a "Healer". The power set options for the AT offer quite a bit of diversity and you shouldn't allow yourself to be pigeon holed into a skill set/role based solely upon the chosen AT.
Just my two cents... -
I wouldn't say that nobody likes your guide...it can be a tough set to play. My first tank (also my main) was/is a fire/stone...and I didn't get into the game until after the nerfs. Couple that with the fact that most folks on the boards feel that the fire primary is gimped and mostly unplayable compared to the others...a newbie (or experienced players for that matter) may not even take an interest.
Personally I love my fire/stone tank...and I think you may have underestimated the power of fault+burn. I have had fault (3 Acc SO) knock down +2's...I have even had luck with two faults knocking a +4 on it's rear. When they're stunned, they don't run out of the patch as fast...at least they haven't for me (ymmv). Fault then a burn patch (with I7 changes) and let the barbeque begin. I don't like tremor's animation time...but that's just me. Otherwise a pretty good guide, though...better than the one I didn't make.
