The fact is we all know what "exploit" actually means, just like we all know what "torture" really means.
[/ QUOTE ]
The only practical definition of "exploit" I can think of: "Exploit" means whatever the devs want it to mean.
It's a more useful definition than "statistical advantage" at least.

I agree 100%. -

That's about as far as I dare go in saying what it is. I'll be banned if I keep typing. Oh, one more thing, I am not the only one who has noticed this.

oh, are you talking about the mythical 'clique'?
Umm.... no...this 'clique' is nothing more than a bunch of people who talk a LOT more than anyone else, and play on test a lot more than anyone else.
Some of them hold the dev's ears more than others, but that's because they have spent the last 5 years yammering into the dev's ears, and some of them have been right more often than wrong... If you spent 5 years sending a PM to a dev every time you had a really good idea that would fix a current problem, you'd probably have gained a great deal of respect from them as well. Some of these folks (like arcanaville) probably could have pushed for a paycheck years ago.
If that's what you mean by 'friends and family' I doubt it's really a category, since some of these people are right on the verge of what you might consider 'exploiters', or people who push the envelope so hard it has them arrested for assault and battery.

Oh no, there are people who don't have to play by rules most of us have to. It's plain as day and night. Search my posts there my be some that have not been locked in which I brought this up in more detail. It has nothing to do with the way people play, exploits, farms, none of that. It's all about friends and family group. It's a sweet deal if your in the program. -

what exactly is the 'friends and family' program supposed to be?
[/ QUOTE ]
I could come and say it plain as day, but that is not only not allowed, it's denied by all who are part of the friends and family program, plus a few goofy sycophants. Believe me if you are not a member of the friends and family program, and you try to use a few of the "features" of CoH often enough, and your not a sycophant fayboy, you'll find out what "not" being in the program means. -

Ok you people need to learn how to read ALL the words. I said Custom characters.
In case you missed it Custom characters.
Again Custom characters.
Then again it could be your arcs are fine with Custom toons in them. This only means you are part of the friends and family program. Congratulations for being part of the anointed few.
But if your a regular sap like me pays and is not part of the friends and family program don't make stories with custom characters.
Ok in mid rant I logged in and tried my mish after not doing for since the first week just to quote some numbers. They may have fixed the custom characters = crap XP. Instead of getting 29 XP for killing a yellow with a lvl 37 toon I got several hundred. It was definitely not that way when I made and played the story. It was maybe lvl 5 XP with a lvl 40 toon. -

Patch by patch, we're getting AE back to where the devs wanted it to be -- a way for players to create arcs that are equivalent to playing the dev-created arcs. Not a way to make arcs that are twenty times more rewarding.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, if this is true why do AE arcs give a 10th of the XP a real mission does. If you use custom baddies that is what you get.

[ QUOTE ]
Well now. I would probabbly find that pretty insulting if I knew you had run my arc. #11529 has a nice little story line and some custom baddies. It may not be the best in the world but people seem to enjoy it.
[/ QUOTE ]
If I wanted the kill some time by not getting any xp or influence I'll try your arc. Again, if you use custom characters xp and influence is only a 10th of what real mission will bring. -

Been playing near 4 years, almost every day since I came back after a 2 month break, namely because I was having no luck making money(no, I dont marketeer, I failed business economics class in school), and came back when Shields hit. Past few weeks, guess what, I was having A BLAST. I was able to level up chars to the range I wanted within A FEW DAYS. I wasnt gonna go 1-50 in one day, hell, I went 1-25 for a couple alts in like 2-3 days, with less stress, and with all the tickets, got a few good rolls to fund them in advance! Making money, leveling chars, even bought a few more char slots to make more concepts I had in mind, and I was HAVING FUN. Now, tickets are nerfed, no one wants to farm, or do anything AE. After near 4 years, they finally did a change that upset me. Plan your stuff in advance folks, dont give people a nice shiny for 3 weeks then smack em in the face figuratively speaking. Past 3 days I've logged on for a few minutes, maybe bought a IO or two, and logged off. And this is with 40+ chars. I love farming, I love PL, I hate grind. Still here after near 4 years, but now, my will is gone. Maybe CO will be better, maybe it'll be crap, but who knows. I played Diablo 2 for 5 years, quit for this game when I was getting desperate enough to debate buying items online. Now im thinking of quitting this game because the enjoyable-ness I had past near month in terms of making/outfitting my chars is gutted down. And no....you can't have my stuff.

One reason you have trouble with money is you are not in the the friends and family program. The fact that this exists has always bugged me. -

I would bet on it.
AS far as Circuit_Boy's comments I found that it's true playing the same map get old fast. I was trying to help this goofy kid who whined about not have a lvl 50 toon gets one. Well, I got tired of doing the same mission. Plus this person would not play unless he was sk'ed by a 50. Then he creates a new toon and played this one with the same only sk'ed by a 50 mandate when his toon I was helping him with was still a lvl 28. That was the end of any help from me. I was already sick of the constant PL me messages anyway, and like Circuit_Boy says that stuff gets boring, then it's like work, not fun. -
Exploits??? Getting XP is an Exploit? Completing a mission is farming? What exactly are these Exploits?
I know if I make as AE mission with custom characters you will get level 1 XP doing it at any level. Example: doing it at level 40 you will get 29 xp for a minion, 56 XP for a lieutenant, 99 XP for a boss. Wow!! Boot me from the game for using Exploits!
When you browse for AE missions the first one on the list will get you 10 times the XP fighting green opponents than you will with my mission fighting opponents 2 or 3 levels higher than you are. Why is this not an Exploit? Answer: I am not in the friends and family category. There many things in CoH that work right only for certain people.
So here are my AE Dos and Donts for people who are NOT part of the friends and family program.
Dont: Try to create an AE mission that has anywhere near the same XP as someone who is in the friends and family program.
Dont: use custom characters. Your AE mission will be stuck at level 1 XP for any poor sap who tries it.
Dont: try to make an AE mission that will give decent XP. You will be exploiting the game. Unless you are in the friends and family program.
Dont: Think that the game should be fair and evenhanded with everyone who pays to play it. Its not, and never has been, and never will be. You have to be part of the friends and family program.
Do: Stay away from any AE mission that is not approved by COH. The ones that dont have the brown AE badge next to it. If you play any mission that does not have this seal you are exploiting the game mechanics.
Do: Try to get into the friends and family program. If you do get in, let me know how you got in. Its a sweet deal if you can get it.
Have nice day -

If you've got a real problem, you should be man enough to put your name behind a petition and follow through with it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Who would they /petition against? The players have no record, which leaves CS to tell the player "too bad, go join another group". Not a good enough answer.
I don't have any problem writing a /petition if someone is griefing me.
[ QUOTE ]
Who would CS talk to if there were an auto-petition generated? They'd have a much better chance of picking the wrong leader (if there were multiples) than the one with the problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
As others have said: there is a record of the person doing the booting in the system logs. I doubt that they'd get the wrong person. I don't believe the CS team is full of people that cannot read.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
The following should have been put in place:
Auto message to those being removed from a group stating the global account doing the removal, the character name doing the removal, and the time of removal.
SG log stating the character name of the person doing the booting, time of removal, and the character name being removed from the group. This log should be separate from the other activity logs (storage interaction).
This way CS and the rest of the group do not have to sift through mounds of data to determine who did what.
[/ QUOTE ]
These are separate issues from what the SL rank is supposed to address.
[/ QUOTE ]
These address problems that the new rank makes worse. Again, the cart has been placed before the horse.
[ QUOTE ]
And if anything, they should be put in just for the players to do the investigative work themselves first. CS shouldn't be first on the list to work out anything, unless it's a bug. SG problems are not bugs.
[/ QUOTE ]
And it isn't my job to make theirs easier at my expense. I am paying NCsoft money to provide a service. I have a problem with them offloading their work onto me.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, an SG isn't a right of passage if you get kicked you move on there are other nice SG's. Also the SL would help minimize all this being booted stuff since only one person would have total say in what goes on. -
Why do I get that page all the time? this forum is next to useless. I can't search for anything. All I get is "Thanks beta testers! See you again soon! " Gee thanks, for nothing.
Oh yeah, don't know if this being posted, when i click continue i go to the Thanks beta testers! See you again soon! page -
When All I get is a "Thanks beta testers! See you again soon!" page. The answer is I CAN'T USE THIS FORUM!

An exploration badge, by the way, is a small round brass-looking inscribed disc, usually on the ground but sometimes on a building or something. If you get within 10' or so of it, you get a popup yellow message on your screen that you got a badge. Your "rewards" list in your chat tab will show which one you just got.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks, this is some good information. I do have some badges for different zones, it's the SG badges that you need for the teleporter beacons that I couldn't get. I just got one for Atlas Park. I had to get help to find the Sentinel one. Even after printing out a map with the locations, I still couldn't find it. I'll look for that disc from now on.
[ QUOTE ]
If you flew over the zones, you may have managed to uncover the map without ever getting close enough to trigger one.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is what I did. I was told that if I uncover the whole map of a zone you get the SG badge. That was not correct as noted above. -
[ QUOTE ]
Thank you! this is a great bit of detail!
I have "inherited" an SG, and am trying to modify the teleporter. You stated:
"That said, beacon choices are never set in stone. You can swap the beacons out effortlessly and for no cost. Sell one, buy another."
When I go to edit, I can see that the beacon is "linked", but no mention how to unlink it or change the link, in the the TP or link options. Do I have to "sell" it to remove it?
And are some porters only allowed one link, and others two? that wasn't clear, but seemed to be implied.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, you sell it and buy another if you have the SG badges. It is automatically linked if the teleporter has room. (2 per teleporter) That much I do know.
How do you "inherit" an SG? That is an interesting concept, it may happen to me. -
Thanks,
I hope this works. -
How do you get the Teleport Badges?
[/ QUOTE ]
You have to visit each exploration badge in the zone in SG mode, regardless of whether or not you have already personally found them.

Badge? Visit a badge? I have no idea what an exploration badge in a zone is. What does it look like? I uncovered the whole map of Steel Canyon. I didn't see any Badges. In fact I have never seen, or heard of a "badge" as a place to go or visit. Is a badge a misson? Is it a building? Is it a NPC? What do I have to visit?
I have tried the in game support. They have no idea what a telporter is. No idea what a badge is, and do not understand typed english sentences or words. In short support has no ablity to communicate. Unless by communicate you mean replying with the statment "In order to further investigate and assist you with this issue, I'd like to gather some additional information." I don't what else I can tell them. They are teleport beacon badges, for city zones. Support has no idea what city zones are, or why anyone would want to go there. Just as I have no idea where a "city zone badge is, or how to get there." -
How do you get the Beacon Badges nessesary to build Teleport beacons. I was told that you get them by exploring a zone in SG mode. This in not true, I explored Atlas Park, and Steel Canyon and got zilch.
How do you get the Teleport Badges?
