  1. The next Paragon Metahuman Academy open discussion will be on Wednesday the 14th December at 8pm

It will be a talk on Villainy, moderated by someone with personal knowledge of the other side of being a metahuman.

As with all our events, it's open to any Hero character who wants to come along and listen, contribute, disagree with the speaker... just send a tell to @Elleth or (for this event) @Alaena before the start time, and we'll send an invite for base access.
  2. Not a zombie thread, a sticky. As such it *should* be up to date, and relevant to the way things are done now, or you should petition to have it un-stickied.

I agree with Nitro's comments with regard to the emote-fight-based player versus player aspect of roleplay, but don't particularly enjoy that sort of RP myself. It's too prone to the sort of problems he describes.

There are a lot of other ways of RPing - emotional/relationship based stuff, shared storytelling, in-character missions or AE arcs, plotlines with an agreed 'gamesmaster', even simple stuff like just showing up in a bar and talking, with no competitiveness involved. New roleplayers (the people addressed by the title of this thread) should be able to explore all these options.
  3. Global Name: @Elleth
    Server: Union

    CoX RP Characters:

Albedo 100: Scientific genius, uses her discoveries to manipulate localised weather phenomena. Founder and principal of the Paragon Metahuman Academy, a school that assists metahumans learning how to become Heroes.

Elleth: A little psychic from another reality, with obscure motives

Ivriel: A warrior from a realm of dragons and magic, stranded by a teleportation malfunction but continuing to battle evil in an uncompromising manner

Dr Fey: A demon, sent from hell to teach would-be villains the true meaning of what they are doing.

Jellian: A cheerful kid with a tenuous grasp on reality and an invisible friend who sometimes becomes terrifyingly visible.

Type of RP: Whatever seems fun at the time. Organises events and classes through the Paragon Metahuman Academy. Also always happy to turn up and provide plot McGuffins for other people, take part in or run IC mission teams. Allergic to OOC drama queens.

Times on: Variable. Prefer not to play much past midnight GMT

    Timezone: UK GMT
  4. Too much getting obsessed with details in this thread.. roleplay should be like dancing, not American Football. It's about the inspiration, the imagery, the poetry of matching steps with someone for a few passages, then moving on. It's not about rules, attempting to bully or over-ride each other, or half hour time-outs while people argue over Lore in local chat with flurries of (( ))

Setting out hard and fast rules like 'you can't possibly know about that' is a way of breaking the spell. Wherever possible, if you *can* justify something another player has done, you should try and do so. If it's a challenge - isn't overcoming challenges a sort of fun as well? Some of the best stories start when someone does something unexpected and you have to incorporate it, taking the plot into strange territory.

I'm kinda hoping some psychic will try to read one of my character's minds. She's completely insane, and looking too closely in there might well drive the viewer a little crazy as well
  5. Looking forward to the next talk.. the question is, given that the subject will be psychics, will it be a talk at all, or will we just *know* what the speaker intended to say?

If anyone would like to give a talk or hold a discussion at the Paragon Metahuman Academy we are open to all, just send a tell or ingame email to @Elleth

The purpose of the group is to promote roleplay and create new and different types of event, so feel free to experiment!

Dr Jane Carson a.k.a Albedo 100, Principal of the Academy

    Server status

My hatred for the server status page comes from the failure to integrate the EU servers.
  8. Thanks Leandro, that was a good link and the solution applies to Windows 7 x64 systems.

In Control Panel > User Account Control you have to put the slider all the way down to 'never notify', and restart your system. The patch will then properly apply and the game sucessfully launches.
  9. What was the updater issue and how was it solved? I don't want to have to mess about with techy stuff every time the game is patched
  10. Yes mine is Window 7 (x64)

No idea how that affects things or what previous problem you're referring to, but it does seem like a problem with the file permissions
  11. Same problem here, and I can confirm it's definitely a Windows 7 issue as my other computer running Windows XP has updated fine

I've tried repair, running the launcher as administrator, rebooting the computer and changing the file permissions on the crashpoint.dll file that seems to be at the centre of the 'permission denied' error, but still get the same problem.

I was at the end of the trial period and at the point of buying the full game as well... not sure I'll bother if the client is this unreliable
