  1. Well different strokes for different folks.

I am kind of curious of the reports of these bugs. I havent experienced many, none major. Think I experience more bugs in COX per time I play compared to CO.
  2. When the lights go out, it will be another memory another day in the past, well days to be more exact.

From the time that I made the first toon, linked up with a blaster, soon joined by a stone tank, and formed an SG. The time that I met the fire tank, and a Mexican concept toon that took over leadership when the founding members including myself left the SG. One went on to better opportunities, the defender had to make some real life choices and me I just retired the blaster in favor of the Villain side.

Thus Evil Legacy was born. The first redside SG that I made that was purely made up of the first villain and then grew to include many more, each with their own storyline, some that intertwined with each other. Then eventually their storyline started to come to an end one by one.

    The 9th Lost Righteousness.
A new set of characters, new set of storylines, first group of Virtue server for villain side to be soon joined by a Freedom transplant. Hero side, just a bunch of random toons of no relation to each other no less fun to play.

The Lost Ones- Based solely on the demon/thermal MM who's storyline was trying to build her own hell on earth to rule.

Donitz-The lead researcher who experimented on villains he captured. Some say he was morally wrong for the type of experiments he performed on villains but others see it as villains getting their just deserts. He sees it as all part of furthering science and was a needed sacrifice that would benefit many.

SGA- SGA V1-Obsolete cyborg that wants to live although being labeled as an illegal and dangerous piece of equipment to own. Out lasted all other versions of SGA Versions including V4, V8 V16 and the new and profitable V23. Eventually died of natural robotic causes (battery life ran out) and was found behind the villain base in Bloody Bay and taken to an Arachnos scrapyard and dumped.

The Point of Despair-Demon/Thermal MM. Finally found a piece of hell on earth but grew bored and returned to the scene to cause chaos for the sake of chaos and collect more souls to forever torment for all eternity. The more souls she collected, the more she wanted. The more pain she caused, the more pain she seek to cause, the more demons she commanded the more she seek to command until she reached the point of her own despair knowing that she will never be fulfilled for all eternity.

Yet, when the lights go out, all of this will be a memory. They can take the game, take the servers but my memories are mine. As many interesting times with people, the most important memories are my own creations. Even when the lights go out, I still will remember until they are no longer memories. Then something else will take their place. It's like the last call, the last ride, end of the road. The journey has been fun but it's about time to get off. Yet, there is one more roller coaster hill for thrills left and even though the light at the end of the tunnel can be seen, I will enjoy the rest of the way. Not sure about anyone else, but I'm not anyone else so I can’t worry about that, but I'm going to be there when it's closing time and then walk away remembering the good times.

    yea.
  4. Yeah it seemed they were caught off guard as much as the players.
There might have been signs but they might have been subtle. Prior to the announcement, not many players seemed to pay attention to the inner workings and financial status of the game or else they would have seen the slipping revenue and probably would of said something. Well that is unless someone did and was called a troll for it back then and they just dropped it.

I know in game many people was saying that they noticed the player base starting to thin out, and rumors of the game not making as much money as they used to, but it was dismissed quickly as mere heresy and someone crying "DOOM!!" again. Man, if there was anytime to have listen to them, that would of been the time and then maybe something could of been done quickly and easier to grow the player base again and bring revenue back up.
  5. I dont know, with the declining revenue and or player subs. it was forseen. Yet, the process itself was abit abrupt. I guess they didnt want to let the revenue slip any longer and pulled the plug so they could refocus on what they felt would be better for them. Compared to what it started out as, and probably, again probably the price NCSoft paid, it may have seemed like there was no turn around by this point for expecting a large increase in revenue to levels even similar to when NCSoft purchased it.
  6. [QUOTE=Novamaiden;4411705]Pretty much all the same things i feel playing it. CoH was my first mmo and i still can't get the timing of blocking correctly and hate having to remember to use energy builders. [QUOTE]

Actually I dont think I use block unless it's one of those tough leveled Super Villains or above past level 15. Outside of that, I just shrug it off and keep slugging away. As I went up in levels, less I had to use block. Then again I focused a lot on defense with the offense to back it up for a well rounded set.

Yea, early on I realize you can block all day and eventually the enemy may still be able to wear you down. S oI made it to where I didnt have to depend on that power except in cases of taking down those few hard bosses.

Yea just went back to Ka and you're right he does make clear of the storyline now. Guess after a few missions he gives more answers.

I'm still getting used to the way the storylines are presented. So far, between the missions and actually speaking to the involved contacts, it puts the storylines nicely together.

-The AR/Energy Blaster with Bonfire who dropped Bonfire every spawn and thought Power Push was a great idea when trying to fight a Boss.
-The Plant/Psi Dominator who kept yelling at us for breaking his AoE sleep and had almost no powers from Psi.
-The Invul tank without Unyielding "because it had crap resistance".
-The Claws/Regen Scrapper who said Regen was too endurance heavy and refused to use any power other than Shockwave
-The countless masterminds who didn't purchase the Upgrade powers "because they cost too much end to use and the pets always die anyway"
-The FF Defender with no bubbles and a constantly-on Repulsion Field/Force Bubble
-The Fire/Kin controller with no Flashfire and Repel always running

    Teaming was impossible.
    Geesh.

Yea came across my fair share of those like the kin who thought his only job was to SB everyone and nothing else, or the MM that seemed to be always "afk" while his pets ran amok, the scrapper who wanted to herd and then berate the defender for not following him to his death ignoring the fact that the defender was of the archery and TA variety and couldnt heal him even if he wanted to, the stalker that refused to fight anything outside of hide, and etc. examples of seemingly goofy behavior.

So I mosty just started to solo unless it cae to a TF that I wanted and or needed to do.

Guess people have different ways of playing their toon.

I don't know, I didn't have any trouble interpreting this story arc. I'm not sure how you missed the central bit involving Dr. Ka and Caliburn that is all about preventing the apocalypse.
Not sure, but when ask Caliburn "If your remember anything about the apocalypse" button the reply is more of the lines of "No and I would of thought of you asa nut but Ka says you are telling the truth." And Ka's information didnt seem much deeper. Must of missed an important piece of cotnact dialog somewhere in the mix. Granted havent talked to Juryrig just yet in regular Vibora Bay and he might have more information on it.

Yea I liked the old one better the new one kind of cut down on the information so much that it might as well be skipped unless that extra starting level is wanted and or needed.

Really, though, I'm frankly expecting to be extremely unimpressed with the Titan Network's efforts. I do agree that the odds of the Titan Network's proposed game being any good are pretty damn slim.

Furthermore, IIRC, while CO and CoH were both developed by Cryptic, the actual members of the teams were different. Unless I'm mistaken, most of the original CoH team stuck with Paragon Studios, and most of the team working on MUO-turned-CO was relatively new. And let's say, hypothetically, they were the same team; all that would prove would be that they collectively only had one good idea and they didn't know how to evolve it, and/or their other ideas are bad. Seems to happen all the time in music where an artist will have one really great album or even just one really great song, and the rest of their stuff winds up being mediocre at best.

I assume you were quoting me as a jumping off point to make a general point, not a point directed at me, as I didn't really mention the Titan Project in my post.

As for the graphics, this is all really a matter of opinion. I don't think Champions looks good. I can't put into technical terms what I think is wrong with it, I just don't like it. It's got nothing to do with cel-shading; I loved Borderlands and I think it's a great looking game. I do not think Champions is a good looking game. Some of the indoor environments are actually quite cool, but most of the outdoor environments and the character models, IMO, are awful. People say it looks like a comic book; I have to disagree. Borderlands certainly looked like a graphic novel; Champions, IMO, looks more like a low budget Saturday morning cartoon drawn by particularly untalented artists and animators.

And I like to think I've given CO a fair shake; heck, I was playing it last night (in a group, no less, probably the first time since I rolled the character that I actually grouped! With some names I recognize from this very forum). I've got a level 24 ice character. And I still maintain that it is an ugly and uninteresting, poorly written game. Other than the adventure packs and comic series, the only missions that are memorable to me are memorable because they're so bad: the ham-fisted "Anchorman" reference, the unbelievably insipid and inane Snake Gulch Robot Cowboy nonsense, and the vaguely racist Hi-Pan ("Mirrenny... Milrenny... The City!"). None of these are good impressions. The only other mission I remember is only memorable because it made little sense. This would be the mission against the Purple Gang in Milennium City, which would be completely forgettable, except for the last bit where the leader of the Purple Gang, which appears to be a street-thug/Mafia-esque gang, inexplicably has come into possession of a mind control device. It is never explained how such an exotic piece of hardware has fallen into such mundane hands. If the gang leader is some kind of tech genius, or has connections to a tech genius, it is never evident before, during, or after the mission.

Every other mission in the game has gotten a resounding "meh" from me.

Despite my misgivings about the game, I'm probably going to continue to level my character to 40 simply out of mild curiosity to see if the game gets more interesting later. Unless I'm blown away by the endgame, though (and from what I'm reading, I won't be), that'll probably be the end of my time in CO. I will certainly say there are many very cool ideas in CO, but their execution is generally quite poor. I see they're adding vehicles and vehicular combat soon. That sounds really cool! And, if it's anything like the rest of the content and systems I've encountered in CO, it will be.... quite "meh".

With all that said, none of this should stop anyone who enjoys the game from continuing to enjoy it, and I encourage people who haven't played it but are curious about it to try it for themselves and forge their own opinions.
Yea, there isnt a single game made in the history of mankind that is made for everyone. Well, at least you gave CO fair shake and there is nothing more you can do.

And the rest of the storylines probably wont get better for you. In upper levels (36-38 period) for example vibora bay, you walk smack dead into the middle of the "apocalypse" and then eventualy travel back into time to pre-apocalypse Vibora bay with new missions that is suppose to prevent the apacalypse but it doesnt explain who/what this powerful thing is, why it's happening or happened, and what does the rest of the enemy groups in the area have to do with it besides a one line about promise of more power from this apparently powerful foe. Of course when you travel to the pre-apoc. vibora bay, the apoc has not happened yet and thus teh contacts have no idea what you are talking about and thus the storyline about the apoc. all but ends there. Monster Island, if you are familiar with the Island of Dr Moreau then the Man Animal storyline is easy to figure out but if not...it may seem like a cliffhanger.

I think a lot of the stroyline lore is found in "exploration" badges and I guess they assumed that the player would come across these to put the pieces together.

    I don't have this problem.

Neither do I but graphics are on the low priority side of judgement of how fun a game is to me. Doom 3, good graphics, excellent storyline but original Doom is still more enjoyable to play, regardless of the low pixels, and relatively thin storyline. Same deal with finding more fu in the NES Super mario bros. comapared to the N64 and later titles.

But for others, if the game doesnt have graphics they find visully appealing, they cant enjoy the game.

Just like I have a friend who refuses to watch anything that is not in HD or on Blue-ray.

Oh yea that mechanic isnt for everybody that is for sure. But I like it better than running out of end and waiting for the bar to return or having to take an insp.

That mechanic, you can still deal damage. as small as it is, and build up endurance bar. Instead of having to basically stop attacking here so the bar can rebuild.

At first it seemed to be that they had it together but when it got tough, it seemed to turn into chaos. I think they might eventually pull it off but hope they die down some hype or else I think many will be disappointed if the new game isnt exactly like the current COX. And the way it looks, it looks like they cant even agree on what would constitute a spiritual successor to COX.

I also think it's notable that some people who often vehemently disagree with one another on this forum collectively disagree with the OP.

Also, very few people responding in the thread have claimed the AE was in no way harmful, yet many of the OP's replies have tried to make it look like everyone who disagrees that it "killed CoH" is saying it was utterly harmless. Again, that sort of argument style, applied repeatedly and aggressively, feels "trollish".

I agree that some folks like to throw out the "troll" moniker any time anyone disagrees with them, and that it might have even happened in this thread. I think applying it in a blanket way to everyone who disagrees with the OP would actually qualify.
I never said all, but have said many and it wasnt just apllying to this thread alone. More like talking bout many threads.

Then again why cant it be let be that he think that AE killed COH if that is what he believes? It seems to be nothing but a mere opinion. Why is the goal is always to change the opinion and thoughts of others? Why cant it be that a person states they disagree, state why they disagree and let the other peron make up their own mind? When it gets to the point of people trying to force a change of opinion of another regardless of how much evidence then yea, that comes off fas trolling just because they disagree.

Right now I assumed everyone know there is not a single solid hard fact based reason of killed the game and thus any thing that specualtes on what killed it is pure specualtion and a view of the poster. IS he right? Maybe. Is he wrong Maybe? But unless there is one hard fact that definately is the thing that did in COX available then it's all speculation.

My personal opinion is that the Cryptic programmers are the amateurs, and the PS programmers are the professionals.
And that really makes me wonder how this new game that is in the works is going to turn out. The PS people seemed to know and or had the knowledge to do some pretty amazing stuff in this game that may or may not be able to be easily replicated. I think the new replacement game will turn out ok but being recognizable as the new COX is something that may not be able to be seen until the new game is done or near completion.

In the end, someone in the know and with power made the decision to close things down. Generally, they don't get to that position by just taking huge losses with no means of mitigation. Maybe they have in this case, but it seems pretty unlikely due to the rushed nature of the close down.
