The way it works is you have to AS the target and the target has to live or die and rez for the effect to work. Then the fear effect kicks in but its a chance to do this. Also it gives a debuff that is non-resistable which is also nice. Stacks very nicely on a stalker heavy team too.

I couldnt agree more. Seriously though they should at least tell us if they are going to overhaul the AE in terms of rewards to risk. As it stands currently it just isnt worth the time doing unless you build an arc to intentionally abuse the system to get tickets.

At least now this is something. All the silence about GR started to make me think we werent even getting it in 2010. Grats on promotions and stuff.

One of the missions in Seer Marino's arc. It still doesnt point to the right way point. I completely stopped bugging it because I know its never going to get fixed so why bother. Many of the game mechanics are broken like how some avs have gawd mode powers on too short of a recharge. Also there are some npcs that 100% resistance to a damage type. If players cant get this neither should npcs. It just makes you useless on a team.

Quote:Its already in game on Aion. The GMs broadcast this crap in big bold yellow worlds that fill your chat and your actual screen. Its annoying as hell when you are in the middle of combat. People always be retards, you cant protect themselves from being stupid its just how it is. 99% of all the Aion hackings are brought on by the user in some way shape or form. People swear up and down they did nothing wrong but later on it comes out that said person download a keylogger or Aion trojan by clicking the free Wii sex bot toy link. There has to be a better way of getting these types of announcements to players other than posting them on the forums.
I can't even speculate on how many people use the forums versus how many actual players there are, but I do know for my immediate group friends who I play with, I'm probably the only one who regularly checks the forums.
In my opinion, getting information to players should be more of a priority - either via Email, in-game pops/GMOTD, etc.

Its frustrating because NcSoft is considering the use of Fobs for some of their games. I know in Korea they are testing this now. To me its not going to solve anything as I said before you cant protect folks from being stupid. It will just be a matter of time before the hackers figure out how to emulate the Fobs and we are back to square one again but still paying extra for something that doesnt do squat that got forced on us to use do to stupid people. -
Quote:this is exactly the issue we have in Aion. Most of the time they are taking quest mobs from you. But there are ways to manipulate this. What I do is train a huge amount of critters to the bots and cause them to die because do aoe damage to the mob of critters. The other way to get rid of them is to push the critters they are fighting off a cliff and have the bot to plummet to their deaths. All else fails we let the opossing faction have their way with the bots. Since there is open world pvp in a few of the zones that can happen quite often.I agree with that, yet I can also see it as a double-edged sword as pointed out by this;
Bots were an enormous problem when I played WoW several years ago. Players out doing quests in open areas would find themselves competing with bots that farmed the areas they needed to "kill x number of" or "collect x number of y" etc then having to wait around for a respawn. That was incredibly annoying.
However, I do agree that if a game has a task so boring and repetitive that there are many players who will turn to a bot to do it, that task should be adjusted by the game developers. -
Quote:I would like to see something like this. So far I have only seen one arc in the game that does this and thats the Snake arc that villains get in the 40s. What I would like to see is an updated version of the skulls and hellions but with level 50 powers, as well as the outcast. Maybe have Frostfire break out of prison and get juiced up on something that boosts him to AV status with more deadly powers. Basically have you go and defeat all the main villains you helped put behind bars that escaped. And for the love that is good with the game please please please devs give villains some actual content thats you know, villainous? instead of being sidekick to the heroes. This stuff needs to be no less evil than the Westin Phipps stuff. As far as I can tell that to me was the only contact in the game that truely made you feel evil for what you did. All the villain contacts should have been this way. I am not saying we need to go out and murder, mame, sexual assault, rob or kidnap every person in sight but at least give us an evil purpose behind the actions we do.I would hope this would go hand in hand with expanding 50 level content beyond the endgame concept. Marginal content quantity is still marginal content quantity no matter how buff your 50 is. (AE is too abstract and fractured for me to consider it as true post-endgame content). Being able to get another 50 levels worth (quantity-wise) of new connected storyline sprinkled through contacts that span back to one's level one days and across faction borders would be quite the feat; IMO.

Quote:You still arent getting what I am saying. The content we got recently just isnt long enough thats what I am talking about. There only so many times you can run those short arcs. There are so many times you can re-color powers. What we got was enough to keep a person busy for a week at best. As for as the AE its just turned into utter phail because its too hard to design a mission arc that is rewarding and at the sametime not bland on the story. Because of the difficulty of some the uber critters some folks make many arcs arent worth running or impossible for some powersets. Lastly the main reason I didnt like the M.Bison TF was because it just felt like it was half done compared to all the other TFs in the game. Its like it was something they thought up 5 minutes before they pushed it to the servers. And I am not going to get on how broken the encounter was initially. People still ***** about it today so I am not the only one who hated it.We can call it opinion because that's what it is. Maybe you don't like power customization, but I do. I think it's one of the best things that we've gotten. I think Cimerora itself is pretty bland, but the ITF is one of the most run task forces in the game. RWZ is one of my favorite zones.
I'm sorry if you don't like some of the recent additions. The devs can't please everyone all the time, and there will always be some changes that you don't enjoy. But just because you personally don't think an issue was "good enough" doesn't mean the devs are breaking promises. No dev ever said "We promise that our next issue will please Ryu." -
Quote:I think you all are just missing my point completely. Its not just the broken promises. Its the fact that I know they can do better in terms of real content when you look at issues 1-3 and issue 5. Thats what I am saying. You can all it opinion if you want I dont care. The thing is I dont want to see this game fail. I have put too much time effort and money into it. Right now because everything is basically dead to me, I have no real reason to log in. I been playing Aion since its release and I have logged into CoX a total of 3 times since then and that was to move a few items around when I did the free server transfers. Even prior to Aion most of the servers I logged into appeared dead. Yeah I know some of you prefer the ghost towns but I dont. I want things to be the way it used to be when more people played. If this expansion is too light on content people may not buy it or come back to CoX. Having more subs means more money for more new projects.Ryu cites items like CoP, City Vault, and base raids as "broken promises". A less childish way of looking at this would be to acknowledge that the devs are just people doing their best, not malicious Norse gods, and a shockingly large percentage of software projects fail. Businesses run on schedules and can only alot a certain amount of time for non-critical tasks.
In fact, Ryu's post illustrates why the CoH devs tend to keep mum on things far longer than we'd like. They're crucified on the forums if they talk about something that ends up delayed, scaled down, or even just takes a long time. If I remember right, it took about 6 or 8 months of steady work to do power customization, but the project was greenlighted nearly a year and a half before it was finally released. Can you imagine the drama that would have ensued if BaB had talked about power customization when it was approved? "Where IS it then? Nothing but broken promises!"And with all that time for speculation to escalate, tons of players would have been disappointed when it finally was released.
Of course, none of that changes my desire to know more about GR nowwwwwww, dagnabbit! -
Aion itself isnt all that bad. Its just too many idiots doing careless things with their passwords and such. Their RMT is just as bad as ours, its just that 99% of our game is instance missions so you never see the bots. If we actually had folks out there farming in the middle of the street the players here would be calling for something to be done. In our case we got annoying tells and emails and all we got to deal with it is a block list that is too short and a way to disable emails from non-friends and supergroup. They did absolutely nothing in terms of banning accounts and such. Aion on the other hand you know when a ban is about to happen. It summons a fire breathing squirel thingie that kills the gold spammer and bans them. Seeing stuff like this in action goes a long way to let players know you are doing something about the good of the game.
-
No, well sort of. It was disabled because it caused too many problems for the 64-bit windows users. Its installed but disabled. Also gameguard doesnt do crap to stop bots anyways. It can be hacked around in 30 seconds which is what many folks did.
-
This GSU team is actually Aion's GSU team. They specifically hired folks in for it because the botting and RMT has gotten so out of hand in Aion mostly due to stupid players clicking pr0n links on the forums and such. CoX has had more security issues but thats mostly due to aion. Once they get your master account they get all your NcSoft accounts. Had Aion not come along we probably would not even have a GSU at this time.

I do think they need to relook at IOs for masterminds. For the most part most of the sets are garbage except the procs for pets and I dont even slot the whole set for those. Basically for me its the following slotting for ninjas. tier 1 3 Acc/Dam HO, pet defense IO,tier 2 3 acc/dam HO, pet resists IO, -resists debuff IO, lady grey proc, tier 3 3 Acc/Dam IO, 1 lvl 50 Reduce End IO. If the set has a heal I might slot miracle and/or numina depending on the set, maybe a resistance set but for the most part you come out better with HO or SHOs because all those crap stats like 2% debt reduction dont mean **** at level 50

Base raids were another thing as well. I could go on with this but I am not. The point is they signed checks that their butts couldnt cash. Thats why I am not getting my hopes up with this. Not trying to be all doom and gloom, I am just being realistic here. Some of you might be wowed by the power customization and crayons for the powers but I wasnt. Some of you might have been wowed by the AE but I wasnt because it did more harm to the game then it helped. Some of you might be easily entertained by the weak content that was in Cimerora and the M.Bison TF/SF, I wasnt because it wasnt dev worthy content like the previous issues like with Striga, Hollows, Croatoa. Thats what I mean. I am setting the bar really high because at this point we are owed this dev worthy content. But I am not getting my hopes up because its going to fall short like all the past issues have been.

Personally I hope they give you several options. A player might not want to go to praetoria but want to actually start a brute or stalker at lvl 1 on blue side. From what I been hearing it wont be possible. I remember reading something about exemplary heroes and villains. Those who stay bad or good the whole time. If they dont give us the option I mentioned you might not be able to get that on certain toons.
-
Considering past experience and let down I am just not getting my hopes up on this. I dont think its going to even be 1/4 of what CoV had to offer. Too many broken promises.
-
It works so much better with this set than anything else to pair it with in my opinion. The problem with the pets is they get 1 shotted so easily. With thermal shields this doesnt happen as much which gives your more time to heal them if needed. Plus the damage buffs are nice to have for them as well. I recommend getting the pet proc IOs to help add a touch more resistance to them.

Its almost always better to build your own. The problems with OEMs is typically the cases like you said and often times their motherboards go out pretty fast. At least with building your own you have more control over that kind of stuff. Most of the time folks go the oem route because it comes with windows pre-loaded. Many folks dont want to pay the cost of that but there are tons of sites where you can get windows and office 2007 dirt cheap if you are a student and have an email address that ends in .edu.

Quote:Well the more content the better. I think at this point though it needs to be more slanted towards making CoV better. Reason being it has fewer missions, fewer TF. It will get old and stale pretty fast if they dont making many folks just go back to heroside where its generally more fun. Then you have the opposite of the spectrum where so many folks want to get their characters out of the doom and gloom environment that is Rogue Isles and away from that anemic Black Market. In order to draw me folks back to Rogue Isles there is going to have to be the start of them equaling out the content finally instead of it being so hero heavy. At the sametime they need to do away with the villains playing sidekick to the heroes on all future content because thats just getting old too.I'll take your word for it that is what you meant. But its not what you said:
That says the exact opposite of what you meant.
I do agree that Going Rogue has set very high expectations, specifically because of the implied amount of time the devs have worked on it. I do not believe any one area needs a minimum amount of attention, but I believe overall GR needs to have a level of content that, if not equal to, is at least in the general ballpark of the content in CoV. Not because they are both boxed expansions, but just because the level of content in CoV just coincidentally happens to be in the general vicinity of what I believe is reasonable for Going Rogue at the present time. If GR ends up having even half or two-thirds the content of CoV, by my subjective standards, I will consider it to have at least nominally achieved my expectations. -
Quote:Yeah the storyline aspect of this game is long over due for some progress. We should have seen what the so called coming storm was at least by last issue but all we got was crayons and a few ported sets. I will say this it will be interesting to see how the cross-over is going to effect certain TF/SFs. I can see LRSF being uber easy with all illusion controller team. Or how an all stalker team would put new meaning in the term quick Katie Hannon TF, or how easily Mind doms would trivialize the the final encounter on the STF with the sleeps lasting uberly long with domination and power boost. I do think they will eventually have to throw out the whole merits over time metric we have now because certain ATs would butcher the current datamined times to the point where we are getting 1 merit per arc on some of them. There are many folks that feel that way.
To be honest with you I'm more interested in how the story gets progressed than ANY of the new announced ATs.
Also interested in seeing how side switching and the new level 50 content works.
EDIT: That last sentence you posted is probably why marketing doesn't allow them to give much news or previews until they are sure what they are previewing won't be pulled at the last second for technical issues. -
Quote:I think people should judge GR more critically than CoV. First off its been ages since we got real dev created content. I dont count the Mission Architect because it did more harm than good to the game, and everything is just too generic with that. I dont count power recoloring because thats just the devs whipping out some crayons for something that could have been done 10+ issues ago. I dont count the return of the 5th column TFs because that isnt dev worthy content. Even after the many revisions it feels like it was half-***** put together unlike their previous content for like issues 1-5. Even now there is still much QQing about the final encounter is more broken than the LRSF by some teams. I dont count the Cimera/Midnighter stuff because it was entirely too short for that zone. It should have been on par with Striga or Croatoa but fell really short of that in my opinion.I consider GR to be the *first* boxed expansion. City of Villains can't really be considered an expansion of CoH because it was intended to be a stand alone game - and *was* a stand alone game when it was first released. An expansion can have a new AT, or two, or three. City of Villains absolutely positively had to have five archetypes and a lot of content, because it was possible to buy only CoV, and even if you had both games your villains were going to be locked into CoV content only regardless.
As an expansion, I believe GR should devote about half its effort to adding new content for both sides, and half its effort enhancing the existing content in some way. That means I don't consider the number of new archetypes in GR to be significant. In fact if they had the resources to make five all new archetypes I would rather they spend them making just a couple new archetypes and add more powerset choices to the existing archetypes.
One more thing: it was a lot easier to make the CoV archetypes than it would be today to make all new archetypes. And that's because CoV archetypes reused a lot of powerset types and powers from CoH. Corruptors took less time than a brand new archetype would take because the devs could start by flipping Defenders. Stalkers are mutated Scrappers, they aren't a totally new archetype, at least in terms of the raw work necessary to construct the data for them (so are Brutes). They could get away with that because none of those concepts existed anyway on the red side, because blue-side characters couldn't cross over. They could generate a lot of the CoV archetypal diversity by shuffling, and didn't need to invent as much from whole cloth.
Today, especially within the context of soon-to-be side-switching, a new archetype actually has to be new: it can't be too trivial of a rehash of existing archetypal concepts, because otherwise it will collide with the other archetypes (which will now potentially exist on both sides).
I think GR should be judged at least in part on how it enhances the existing components with the game, and not exclusively on how many new things it adds.
So with the devs holding back all this content we should have been getting I expect more missions and such than what CoV had by itself. I dont see this being a problem at all. Considering how easy it is to create an arc in the MA and the devs have superior tools than that we should be getting lots of stuff for the time we havent gotten anything tangible. As for as powerset swapping goes just about everything I ever wanted is there just about so a few more ports isnt going to make my day at all. I think at the end of the day GR has to be bigger than CoV in terms of real content and to make up for all the empty promises the devs never delievered on (CoP, Base Functionality, and City Vault). -
Quote:Also I want to add that it helps to run the game at the same resolution as the desktop. Sometimes it wont load if the settings are different. It is compatible. The issue most likely lies with one of your settings.
Right click on the City Of Heroes shortcut on your desktop and click on properties.
Go to the Compatibility tab and make sure "Run this program in compatibility mode" is unchecked. Look down a bit further and make sure "Run this program as an administrator" is checked.
If the problem persists after you've done that, try reinstalling your drivers. Posting a CoH Helper log may be helpful as well. There are a lot of people who are running City Of Heroes just fine under Windows 7, including myself. -
Yeah they suck and there is no excuse at this point for all the bugs we still have in this game that even go back to issue 1. I am almost too embarrased to send out a trial for this game because of all the obvious bugs we still have at this point.

Quote:Totally agree with you there. I think thats part of the reason why I was able to move to playing Aion so much eventhough I have always hated fantasy MMO's.I feel the PO. I check the forums once a week and am always disappointed to see the same post from weeks before still there. In the last 3 months we had the holiday events and the ninja booster pack....but I'm just bored as hell. I haven't even logged in for at least 3 months...or since Halloween anyways. I doubt I'm the only vet that has become bored. GR is taking forever. Another booster pack would help, but I doubt I'll log in again untill GR goes live. I just can't redo the same content anymore.
