    You mean try to get recluse stuck in a spot where he can't move and can't attack? Sorry, no thanks. That isn't how I do bussiness. Khalens a good player, I know. he learned most of his basics under my sg's guidance. He is a valuable resource for anyone that needs advice.

    I don't try to avoid the AV... I advance on them. It's all about playstyle. But hey, thanks for trollin the boards again. Toodles, and happy turkey day.

    PS, tell me when Khalen manages to use "Resistance" instead of defense to accomplish his "Duo" team. I would be interested in hearing how he overcomes certain obsticles.

    yeah, had to go to work the night before...lol. As for the master badge, we think it's possible if u have a lot of patience. We just opted for shivans on the towers. The ONLY place we used the shivans were the towers. We only used 6 shivans the whole "Towers" run.

    We had LR NP, but we were all tired so we unleashed every shivan we had, shielded them, forged them and watched LR go squish!!!

    Overall this was a lot of hard work, but man we feel great we did it. The initial day I came into our TS and said "Hey guys, what do you think it would take to do a 4 man STF?" they all said "An act of god!" or "SHHQQQ TSSSS SShhQQQqq,.... you're breaking up. What did you say?!!!" lol. The next day they came back and said "Are you serious?!" and when they knew I was we got to work. The last few weeks was a wonderful thing watching these Guild mates work together towards this challenge.

    I thought the lady and gentlemen that helped make it possible deserved the credit, so I posted it here for posterity. I feel honored to be working with them.

    questions? ask here or tell @cherry-2000
    I want to take a moment to say hello to everyone. I have had a busy year. I also want to congratulate Cherry-2000 for posting this challenge. I don't know why but I found this to be of particular interest to me personally. My best STF run ever is 56 Mins as an MoSTF. I am continually trying to help sg members and friends with pushing the limits of this TF. Last nite we finished our 4 Man STF attempt on our 3'rd try. We used the following for our attempt...

    1 Grav/Rad @Lost Incorporated
    1 Fire/Rad @Nikki-Graves
    1 Grav/Thermal @Wiry One
    1 WP/Nrg Tank @EverStryke

    Thank you Cherry-2000 for giving this old dog something to spark his interest, even if only for a few weeks.

    Toodles folks!!!
  4. A Special thanks to @Cherry-2000 for throwing out a fun little challenge for an old vet. It was a blast!
  5. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Heya Folks,

    A few weeks ago I came along a post in the forums that evaded to a 4 Man STF Challenge. Over the years I have accomplished many things, but this "challenge" hit me as something I found particulary interesting. So I came into our voice chat, and I asked the others what they thought it would take to get it done.

    The first thing out of everyones mouth was "Illusion". I stopped them cold. I run a particular method of muscling through everything, and wanted to encompass our "style" within this challenge. So I said, everything but Illusion is welcome. We then came up with a team concept.

    2 Grav/Rads
    1 Grav/Therm
    1 WP/Nrg Tank

    We set out to build the toons over the next 2 weeks, IO'ing and Accolading out out toons. Impatience got the best of me and I pushed them to finish early. We attemped 2 failures. Some of the problems were as follows...

    Grav/Rads couldn't seem to keep the repairmen from healing the tower. And couldnt come up with the nessecary DPS needed to finish the towers. This was heartwrenching for us. So we saw an opporitunity to go back to theory and replace a Grav/Rad with a Fire/Rad. Then we tried attempt #3.

    On Attempt number 3 we brought the following...

    1 Grav/Rad
    1 Fire/Rad
    1 Grav/Therm
    1 WP/Nrg Tank

    This got us to the end, as in our first 2 attempts. In the first 2 attempts we were able to only kill 2 of the towers. With the combination changing to the Fire/Rad over the other Grav/Rad we were able to mow through things easier.

    ***NOTE***
    if you go to get shivans after killing the last 4 AV's you will have to re-kill all 4 patron AV's.
    (Don't ask...lol)

    ***NOTE***
    The endurance drain from recluse hits less often if you keep recluse in a single spot. Do NOT move him around to reposition him or you will likley initiate him spamming a ranged endurance drain on your tank that will lead to a team wipe when the tank gets their toggles dropped and dying using this method.

    I want to take a moment to thank those who helped make this possible...

    @Lost Incorporated
    @Nikki-Graves
    @Wiry One
    @The One
    @Carebears1752

    A special thank you to those who helped Nikki get some much needed enhancments $ Respec for our 3'rd attempt, I think the SG helped her with a few hundred million easily.

    They say the proof is in the pudding, and pictures or it didn't happen. So here you go...

    The only advice I can give to a new player, focus on your primary and secondary powerset for attacks. Don't take the pool power attacks, theyre a waste of power selections. at least for a blaster. Otherwise just play it by ear and you'll pick it all up as you go, and don't hesitate to ask people in or out of game for help or advice if you need it.
    Above is a players opinion. It's worth a pile of beans if you find you disagree with it. This game is full of opinionated self proclaimed experts. This server in particular is more often then not friendlier than most other servers.

    As you learn the game take your time and enjoy your toon. Many of the players here on this server are RP'rs, but there is a large growing segment of it that are Just casual to addicted players who are number crunching fools. AT Perfection and finding the perfect build for them is thier goals. These two groups (RP'rs and Perfectionists) tend to clash. Doesn't mean either is right or wrong... just means you will get strong opinions on both sides. Be prepared, and don't get involved in the crossfire.

    I am with the perfectionists, I love doing TF's, Makin Money, and administrating a strong active SG. You may find you are a Costume freak, or a PvP junkie. Take your time... settle in.

    After you "Settle in" a bit, then you will find those who share your enthusiasm. Find a few SG's, support is nessecary for TF's and other aspects of the game as you level and progress as a player.

    Badges, Accolades and Temp powers can add in aspects of the game that you proabaly experienced. Give them a try, it builds a personal stake in your toons development. It tells the tale of where you have been, what you have done, and a comparison to who you know and play with as well.

    If you can't find JJ look me up anytime. I encourage a system called "The basic 5" and it helps to mold the finest players in CoH impo.

    Second, I have played plenty of tanks. My Invuln/Axe was my first tank to hit 50, and I have other high level tanks including Stone/Fire, Ice/EM, WP/Stone and Shield/SS. One of my regular partners is one of the best tanks in the game, Call Me Awesome. I seriously doubt you know more about tanking than he does.

    Yes, uncontrolled knockback can be frustrating . . . but that is NOT the fault of the AT or the powerset, it is the fault of the player not knowing how to maximize the use of knockback for maximum benefit. Knockback is a part of the game, and many, many powersets have a knockback power or two. Peacebringers, Energy Blasters and Storm Defenders/Controllers are particularly known for knockback, as it is a key part of their damage mitigation. Those three have far more knockback than an Illusion Controller. But many other characters have knockback, including most of the Blaster secondaries, many of the Blaster primaries, several Defender primaries and secondaries, and even APP powersets and melee sets like Martial Arts' Crane Kick. As a tank, you need to learn how to deal with and use the knockback. Your main job is to draw aggro so that the foes are not attacking the rest of the team. If a foe is flat on its back, it is not attacking the rest of the team . . . or you, either. If you have that foe taunted, then he will come after you when he gets up.

    Phantasm can be mostly controlled by using the "invisible leash" and leading him to the right places. By the right positioning, Phantasm's knockback can actually be used to make the tank's job easier. An Illusion Controller can work with a tank by staying back, pulling Phanty to the far side of foes away from the tank so that Phanty's knockback will knock foes towards the tank. And in the mean time, if Phantasm and his decoy distract and/or kill a foe, then that is one less foe you have to worry about. (If you ever want to see how it is done, I have Illusion Controllers at level 50 on Guardian, Pinnacle and Freedom, and a level 40 on Justice.)

    And you should welcome Phantom Army on your teams, if the player is good. Nothing in the game is better at taking the Alpha strike than Phantom Army -- not even a max slotted Granite tank. A level 20 Illusion Controller can, for 60 seconds, tank a level 54 AV. I'd like to see how long a level 20 tank lasts. Phantom Army, when used correctly, can make a tank a better tank by allowing the tank to gather outlying foes while PA distracts the big baddies. Less healing means more endurance available to attack the bad guys.

    Being a good tank isn't about your ego. It is figuring out a way to help the team as a whole take foes down safely and quickly. Phantasm provides good damage and damage mitigation. A good tank learns how to work WITH the powers that benefit the team instead of trying to ban them.
    Firstly this post is about slotting, so assuming that someone is worse at another AT than another is moot, Thanks for your personal Jibe at my ability to play tanks... i'll move on and be the adult here son.

    As to welcoming Illusion controllers to teams, I still never will. Because it's a personl playstyle. I encourage folks to play what makes them happy, and if this is what makes you happy then go for it. Just saying, be ready for ppl that can't stand Illusion Controllers.

    Dealing with MA Scrappers, Storm, Energy blasters, PB's and other forms of KB is eliminated when you don't pull them into the mix. Does it hinder some teams? Never. I form my own teams, so I don't have to ***** about it.

    High level tanks have more then "Draw Aggro" capability, and if you and your "Best tanker in the game" friend knew that they would also know that if your tank was worth thier salt the mob would be half dead before your team was at it's designated herd spot, or caught up to the tank on forward herds.

    As to the point of the Phantasm using it's KB to push mobs, or other enemies "towards" the tank, I say this... "If the tank is worth it's weight in the team the mob should have never been spread out". Therefore making the KB unessecary and worthless anyways. And no I have no desire to see it. I spent years saying "Sure come join our team" to energy, PB, Storm, and Illusion. I now don't. It is nothing but frustrating, time consuming, and only benifits the person that is using that AT. They get frustrated because they can't "Find teams" and rightly so.... I am not the only person that distains KB. Many tanks don't deal with it either. Be prepared for this, but never take it personal. When you make this AT you understand that going into it.

    As for experienced tankers, our job isn't our ego, and it sure as hell isn't to boost yours by allowing you to Knock mobs around because "it looks cool". Most tanker lovers run daily trying to find the perfect herd, and they love it. KB just doesn't allow for that. So, it makes for 2 AT's that will probably never get along. Doesn't mean I am right and it doesnt mean you are right, it just means be prepared to meet those among the tanker crowd that can't stand and will not allow you to team with them. And if you think that makes us idiots, or bad players because it doesn't suit your style of "Having fun" then so be it. At least I didn't have to deal with the chaos that Illusion brings to any team.

But if he insists on being ignorant, then I would announce to the team that I was quitting because the tank is a bumble-headed buffoon who won't take the word of someone who knows more than he does . . . and then quit in a snit, hopefully convincing any teammates I like to quit with me.

    Sometimes I enjoy being snooty, especially when I'm right.
    I wanted to chime in here, simply because I am a tanker afficianado. I despise PB's, Energy Primary blasters (even Defender Energy secondary) and Especcially Illusionists.

    Let's get one things straight right here. I understand and even respect your views on an AT that you obviously Love, I myself have my own views on how Tanks are run. You or myself can write Guide after guide trying to out one another, but I personally don't have anything to proove, I simply want to state something.

    I have seen in the past PA do KB. This was issues ago mind you. Things may have changed, but even so... Phantasm does do KB. This simply wont work with me. I despise KB as a tanker and it may not work for me and the way I form my teams.

    When playing an Illusion Controller you must take into account that what you consider "Ignorance" may be another experienced player that has dealth with too much of something and they simply refuse to put themsvles back into that position again.

    let's concede that PA does Not do KB, ok... Phantasm still does, and as a tanker I would still have to deal with it. My teammates would have to deal with seperated mobs, Bosses that you would have to chase down due to them being knocked around and even mobs that tear apart because the Aggro that PA steals can have chaos insue. None of these things work for "Me".

    Cost of playing an illusion controller. And the cost of playing a tanker that likes nicley herded mobs.

    On a side note, I have dealt with enough Illusion Controllers and Energy blasters, I could care less if PA does KB or not, this is because Phantasm does and it makes the PA issue a moot point. Have a nice day.

    BTW - I got sent to the AE building for a newspaper in IP over the weekend and the datastream turned out to be the door.
    Ran one on Sat, Had Tons of them. Luckily we had a lot of rads on the team, they were worth 15-20k a piece for Exp and we were slaughtering them. So it was great leveling fun!!!
    On a side not, if we had not had the rads, it wouldn't have been so much fun.
