Color me disappointed as well about that. Was hoping being premium would account for a little bit more, but --- shrugs.
  4. I have to admit, I had rushed to buy the Gunslinger pack and was a little disappointed. While not sorry I did so, I'm not happy either.

Some good to it, but some things I didn't care for.

    - I'm glad some of the costume parts are optional, because they're awfully ugly. Like the cow skull on the arms. I've never seen that and have no idea what made them wish to do so? Worse, the gold ropes. Worse yet, the spacing makes those parts appear to "float", same with the belt. Speaking of...

    - No holsters? I'm ok with the belt, its not that bad... but no holsters?!?

    - Just one hat? I was hoping for a few more. I'd rather have the choice of another 2 hats or such, rather than the hat bling. Plus whats with the hair? Ugh.

    - The guns, were just awkward. My gunslinger will stick with the navy colt pistol instead. I was hoping maybe a short shotgun like James Caan had in El Dorado, but I know that was hoping for way too much. While I'm on it... no Winchester rifle either for the AR folks? Rather than the corny pistols I'd have taken a long charge brawl that was a beer bottle smash or a stick of dynamite toss.

    - No John Wayne like cowboy shirt? Aw man...

    - No moccasin boots or fringe on the jackets? Aw man...

Other than that... I like the variety of the costume packs, keep 'em coming.
  5. Eh... no worries.

This is one of the few exclusive offers I'll be missing out on that I could care less about. No biggie.

  6. Pretty much what everyone else has suggested --- just want to add my voice to it.

    More unique buildings
--- Some zones have their own style and their own architecture. Some zones are just cut and paste. Would like to see more to make these zones unique. What about the Newspaper building? How about a fire station for Steel Canyon? Maybe some unique buildings/doors for the unique maps & missions? How about themed areas that are populated by certain groups - Little Italy as an example for wherever the mob fellas hang out. Chinatown for where the inked guys hang out. So on...

    Unique entrances
--- I don't mean the buildings themselves. But how to get into them. Coming in the front door is well, not as fun. How about through an open window? The skylight? A loading dock door? How about through a sewer to get up into a building or other secret entrances to liars?
  7. Aw man...

this just brings back memories of a few years back on another board I frequent about the possibility of this sometime ago.

    Ah, memories.

This is bad though. I'll just want vehicle emotes next.

    EC
  8. I could follow along with that.

    RTT
  9. Not a bad idea.

I wouldn't want to see Frankengun Jr. - by itself at least. I'd like to see dual pistols, with 3 subsets; standard, laser & gadget.

The standard subset would be regular bullets, much like regular guns. The laser subset would be lasers. The gadget gun subset would be gas loads, blinding flash and other various stuff.

    RTT
  10. I've said this before...

    ...I'll say it again.

Vehicle emotes for things like motorcycles, jetskis, flying hoverdiscs, surfboards or whatever.

Costume parts or invention recipes for things like jet packs /rotopacks, etc.

    RTT
  11. Thanks for not only keeping the time on the poll under 24 hours... but keeping it so vague we literally have to judge a book by its cover.

Give us informed choices for us to make decisions (and the time to do so) and not something we have to kneejerk to in under a days time.

And I'm with what a few others stated before... judging by the choices, what you think is "cool" and etc... it looks like you guys are take a huge step back in some regards.

I was more interested in the paid box back when... and with all the new free content, I'm still more interested in what would have been with the paid box.

I didn't reread the transcript, though I do remember the interview distinctly...but here's my take on bases:

They give players their own property...not exactly new ground for MMP's...however, they do offer an unprecedented level of customization.

Clearly, that customization, as well as the several gameplay benefits that the base provides hasn't been perceived to be worth the cost (i.e. Prestige/time played)...hence, Posi and several others (including myself) have taken a spin at making bases more accessible at an earlier stage.

It isn't the popularity of bases so much as the fact that our programming & art team did a phenomenal job of allowing players to generate their own lairs. Maybe not enough players have experienced this content to comment on it, though hopefully Posi's changes will help.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow, I think you just had your self a revelation States.

Of course players haven't had a chance to enjoy it much. They ability to do much out of the box is not there.

You certainly did give Supergroups a goal. Problem is you set it so high, that only full supergroups that gamed a large percentage of time could enjoy the full benefits quickly enough to deem it "fun" and/or useful.

You excluded such a large amount of the playerbase for what has to be an incredible feature.

Unless a player was smart enough to play with bases on the Test server, players had to join supergroups they didn't care for, for the sole reason of experiencing a playerbase. Of course, along with that came the big problem. A player wasn't doing things to have fun anymore.

I bought COV for 2 big reasons, none of which was to play COV. The costumes and the player bases. I wasn't able to enjoy the costumes as a hero until 6 months after its release... and I still have yet the chance to enjoy a player base outside of screwing around in Test.

No, I don't mind working a little to obtain a goal. I been around since Beta and may main STILL has yet to hit 50... and I have NO travel powers... so we're not talking about a lack of patience here. It was a lack of fun.

Which was a damn shame, because from what I got to play with on the Test server... player bases are truly awesome. You guys did an INCREDIBLE job with them and deserve all the kudos for it.

But so much fun was taken out of the process on live... having to be part of a large supergroup... having to work like hell in a supergroup and find a supergroup that didn't REQUIRE playing in SG mode as a requirment and then... one was never guaranteed a chance to actually participate in the building of a base.

    Anyways.

Glad to see youre finally coming around States and starting to see players have been BEGGING you for the ability to enjoy what you guys had worked so hard on.

    Better late than never.

Hmm, is there yet hope for skills?

besides, wasn't it replaced with the inventions system? I thought that was what they were planning to use the univeristies for in i8...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, and that is why I have my issues. Salvage, worktables, base items, inspiration stations, and the coming invention systems are all the leftover, working parts --- whats left of skills system as a whole.

Nine times... and they couldn't put it all together as skills? Yet, what they had was enought o dish out into other things.

I'm sorry --- not good enough. A skills system they've gone over nine times and got those systems from is on the verge of coming together. They need to do it. If its not fun... then why are these systems being applied to other things... elsewhere?

Does the "fun" rule not apply to that part and what it is now applied too?

I can't let it go... and neither should Cryptic. I'm disappointed they decided to quit on skills and thought dishing out the smaller peices of the skills system to other things would be sufficient.

Updates to Boomtown, Faultline, and the Rikti Crash Site are currently being worked on and expected for Issue 8. We will be able to enter the ship. The zones are being redesigned with new art, contacts, etc using Striga and Croatoa as models.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thumbs up, very nice. Although I wish they'd update Atlas Park, Galaxy City, Steel Canyon, and Skyway City. They all have a case of the generics. Seeing them get some attention to detail like COV has would be nice. Like Blackbeards, the various banks and Casinos with their own names, even something like WSPDR, a specific bank here and there, maybe the Paragon Times News building in Steel Canyon, a small Chinatown, a small little Italy section, etc. Man, I'd love to see a unique building just for Lou's Garage. Stuff like that.

Hero/Villain teaming - There will be lots more coming. Some big threat/enemy will require heroes and villains to put aside their differences and work together.

Thumbs up. Some of the best story lines in comics where when heroes and villians had to do just that. I just hope the missions do have that "Do or die" feeling. Teaming up with the local baddie to just whup on a pack of Hellions who stole a purse is a little... underwhelming.

    THUMBS DOWN!

I am so diasappointed about this, its not even funny.

Allow me to cut and paste my own comments from another thread in regards to this.

    [ QUOTE ]
everytime is mentioned the number of systems they tried practically triples. We hear the failure of one system, then later we hear the failure of 5 systems, and now they have gone through 9 different systems that weren't "fun"?

Nine systems that weren't "fun"? But they keep finding enough from it to apply to the game in another way, somehow.

I knew there was a reason why I felt salvage, base items, and inspiration stations were "half baked" ideas.

That just scares the hell out of me concerning the development staff. What is their definition of "Fun"? Remember, Jacks the guy who hated the idea of badges, something a lot of us love. And of 9 systems... they couldn't put together something as a whole, instead they're just dealing out what little bits and peices do work to other things?

Sometimes I think they need to "go to the people" with what they do have an ask us, y'know?

9 tries with skills... and nothing. Now its never.

Sometimes my faith in the devs drops to like zero, y'know?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Universities - They will be doing something with them in Issue 8.

    [/ QUOTE ]

THUMBS DOWN! This would be thumbs up... save for the fact that I know its something left over, reheated, and served to us between two slices of bread and covered in gravy from the skills system. This will just make me want skills even more.

Game Events - More are planned. There will be a Halloween/Fall event this year.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thumbs up. I missed the first "event" because I went to Halloween Horror Nights for 3 days. I was livid. Much happier that they decided to extend the events afterwords for longer amounts of time. Glad to see they're doing another one.

    [ QUOTE ]
Level 50 content - Currently in the works. This has become a higher priority because the percentage of players with a level 50 has grown.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hesitant thumbs down. I don't like the idea of "End Game Content" for a game like COH. I understand other peoples desire for an end --- as baffling as it is to me. There never should be an end to the game itself. Storyline, archs, events, ok... but to the game itself? Nah. City of Heroes/Villians should be an ongoing world. Always Expanding. Sometimes Changing. Not something with an end. I should never want my hero to hang up his tights. I want him to always improve, become better, learn more, be able to do more. Give me ways to make more of my hero, different ways to play --- SKILLS, ya' hear me? I don't like the idea of beating whatever storyline, boss or whatever and it being the end of the game. The end game is when I'm sick of City of Heroes/Villians and decided I've had enough and quit. Not something you guys script. Thats bullocks.

    [ QUOTE ]
5th Column - They are going to be coming back. The gladiator badge is not all we will see of them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thumbs up. As Cap America, Indy Jones and many others have proved... nothing is more fun than beating up a Ratzi.

    [ QUOTE ]
Heroic animal-themed costumes - Sounds nice but not a high priority.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can live with that. Tails, monster heads, hooves, claws. We have a decent selction. With wings it expands a little more. I think a few more would be nice... to just offer a choice or two more. Like a bird and felines head, some different animal ears, and perhaps a mane too. To just help flesh out what we already have.

    [ QUOTE ]
Positron said that badge junkies will hate him for one of the villain I7 contacts - There is a badge that you can only get if you complete all of a certain contact's missions. And every mission is timed and can be failed. He said that the times are not long, but not so short that it is impossible. Also, you can only get the badge by doing the missions yourself. joining someone else for them will not award it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Jury is still out with me on that. Hmm. Lot to think about and chew on. Has its good and bands, like the actual sense of some importance and challenge and uniqeness, but something with the potetnial to be very frustrating like that is not usually a good thing. Being able to fail sure... but not being able to get a change again via someone elses mission --- I don't like that.

    [ QUOTE ]
Server transfer - It is in the works. There will likely be a fee for doing it. This is because they can't completely automate the process and will have to hire people to move characters over and change names when necessary.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not hassled with alt-itis nor have the problem of friends on other servers. I'm pretty much settled into Freedom... so this is no issue to me. However, considering the hassle, the charge is understandable. If I ever did switch servers, etc... the extra fee would only seem fair to me.

As a side note... in regards to Cuppajo. Yeah, shes smoking... in that... the kind of girl you don't fake losing to and really is competitive and fights against you hard-way.

    EC
  18. ---Flop---

It was such a downer too after seeing the video with the trenchoats and dual pistols too --- for npcs or not, it really got me excited. Usually when NPCs start sporting things --- that same stuff for the players isn't too far behind.

Too a point, I think the coming of an invention system is great. But it just makes me think that is 1/x of what a skills system could have been for everyone.

Inventions could possibly have been one part of the skills system. I've no doubt that've taken what they could have from skills and decided to proceed along with that at least.

I just hope it all works out and they're able to apply it in other ways. Maybe from inventions they can... and we'll soon see some science skills applied in the same way... maybe some detection skills applied the same way.

    Wouldn't that be cool?

So we have the Universities for invention or whatnot. I'd like to see the The Paragon Times building (Actually, I would just like to see the building with some custom art itself... that would be spiffy.) be used for something having to do journalism/detective type skills. How about the Paragon Police Department be used for that too? We can go there to enhance our crime solving/clue finding/forensic skills? Science skills... Portal Corps and the Universities again would be great for that.

So maybe skills aren't shelved. Its incomplete and we're just seeing the first part of it - inventions.

There. Plenty of hope and bright visions of a future...

... now someone better take my wet blankie away before I start rat-tailing a few of ya with it.

  21. Thought I'd give you all a visual reference for my idea, how much nicer and cooler it is to see a fire engine, than just a stack of backpacks on a palate.

  22. Did the fire event a fire times myself. Major fun.

    Suggestions...

    1. I can imagine its hard for you guys to program for us to go into the building and put out the fires from the inside and rescues. So I'll meet you halfway on this, have victims come out of the building on fire and run around in circles until someone puts the fire out on their backs. NOW THAT would be cool as can be.

    2. I like the idea of the top few floors of a skycraper being on fire. But that would leave all the non-flying heroes out of the fun. Which is why I then suggest...

    3. Giving the backpacks a temp fly ability as well.

    4. The fire chief blowing a whistle with a cart of backpacks is kinda' lame. Give us a fire engine with lights flashing, horns blaring. It also gives a better illusion to recharging the packs somewhere. Have him tell us what to do, and 2 firefighters handing out backs out the back of the engine.

    5. Badges are cool... but if you get a badge AND A hat for smacking around a witch 10 times... WE WANT A FIREHAT for putting out XX amount of fires succesfully!

  23. Only been playing solo, so I can't really say how this works for a team setting, which I'm sure Defiance is really meant for as the game seems to be more and more itself.

Sadly, I have to say... Defiance for a level 30+ blaster going solo means little. In fact, the few times I read that Defiance was any good for anyone was in the very early levels, or against one Lt or Boss in a ***very situational*** circumstance.

I found myself looking for some good to Defiance as I was getting eaten up and chewed out by minions. Found myself dead several times before it was even of any use. I was lucky enough in several circumstances to OVERKILL a minion who had a slither of life left as I was wasted upon by the others around him. Haven't had the chance yet to use flamethrower under Defiance, which I'm sure would... pull my fat out of the fryer so to speak with said gaggle of minions.

All in all, I'm finding Defiance not very helpful or applicable to a blaster in what he needs most. I don't think the increased damage is what a blaster needs when his health hits red. He needs defense. I think Defiance is a fine idea just applied in the wrong way.

Health goes down to those extremes, a blasters hits his "zone"... becomes defiant and his defense increases. All that increased damage is no help, if your dead the very next few seconds after you get that one kill. I'd rather get a defense bonus with defiance, fire off a few shots, under normal damage and be more effective that way. This enables my blaster to survive long enough to get healed by the defender, while getting in a few more good shots.

Defiance as it is now... is nothing but a faster way to end up dead, with loads of debt and a party very frustrated at you for making poor decisions and putting the defender in an awkward position of saying he didn't heal you because he wanted your Defiance to take effect. In fact, I think this is going to cause a HUGE rift between blasters and defenders and is going to cause a lot of problems on teams.

Please retool Defiance to work as a defense buff. Its just a much better idea.
