  1. Thanks to all the team that built and supported this amazing game and premiere community. Chris and I played 8 years and loved every minute of it... I only wish we didn't have to say goodbye to the amazing characters, people, and places we love so much.

I'll be watching your twitter feeds for the next projects for all of you great people.
  2. Me too - it's beyond frustrating. Cleveland Akron area on Time Warner Cable. The few tims I do manage to log in, I end up disconnecting from mapserver when I try to join a map.. or change zones.. or pretty much play a game

No CoH for me at this point, it's unplayable.
  3. Location: Akron, Ohio
    I.S. Provider: Time Warner Cable
Server(s) Used: Infinity and Triumph are both unplayable for me - at times we're talking solid red bars as wide as your thumb along with the bed of nails mentioned by others above.

After troubleshooting my network and finding no problems, and calling my ISP and having the connection checked, switched to west coast servers (Guardian and Champion) and showing no dropped packets at all. Smooth as glass.
  4. Traditional RPG branching tree dialogue?!??!

I am seriously geeking out here - thats something I've been wishing for a long time. And yes, I'm serious! I love it when there are choices, consequences and divergences.

Can't wait to see what you do with the new tech!
  5. DO WANT.

Already bought Teh awesome and l33tness is palpable.
  6. Jumpin' on board! Nothing makes me feel more unique than being just like everyone else.. or.. whatever

    YAY CANDY HEARTS!

Listen. You know the range of your own heals by heart. As long as you're in range of being able to heal, you're in range of getting xp. Just stay near the team like a good healer.

Yeah, basically I'm staying near the center of the group - anybody who runs off is on their own now
  8. I apologize - you are correct that damage isn't required. (That's why you don't post after a 12 hour shift kids.) I'm going to edit my original post so that it doesn't perpetuate.

I do stand by my belief that there will with time be less pure healing classes however - rarely during a pitched battle do I check my range from other players. I spend most of my time trying to heal and buff them. It will be very distracting now watching to be "sure" I stay in range at all times.

If what controllers and defenders are designed to do does not reap rewards, then 1) I will not play those ATs and 2) they will lose their effectiveness.

I would predict we will see a lot less of the 'pure healer' classes within a few days of this going live.

**Edited due to a mistake on my part.
I originally thought it required damage to do get XP. This is incorrect. However, I do still believe that the inconvenience of having to constantly monitor range when street hunting with friends will be enough to reduce the controller population.

It will be interesting to see. I reserve final judgement until I have playtested the change for a while, but it appears to me that several of my controllers will be permanently shelved after the change goes live. How does less variety among archetype builds help a team?

    Waiting and wondering....
  10. Just chiming in with my vote - it's too early to say how they'll market this, obviously. But I'd guess that message board sentiment is one way (certainly not the ONLY way) that the powers that be will decide how to charge for City of Villains - or even if they should charge at all.

    Therefore, my two cents:
    - The software itself can be priced as high as $49.99 and I will buy it. Expansion pack or no.
    - If there is a separate monthly fee to play - I won't. I enjoy City of Heores, but I won't pay to play two mmorpg's at once, no matter how good they are. I always end up feeling I'm wasting my money somehow - that I'm not "fully" enjoying or playing one of them. Keep in mind $15/month = $180 a year.

    - If there is one combined, discounted fee offered for the games, even if it is SLIGHTLY higher (say $5 more a month to add City of Villains to my account) I will do so. I don't feel that's a contradiction. My thought processes turn into "So for only $5 more a month I can play both games? Cool!" And $5 * 12 = $60 which is a reasonable upgrade price in my mind. Anything more than $5 a month, though, and I won't bite.

In a nutshell, if I was doing the marketing, I'd set it up as follows: People who never played City of Heroes could buy City of Villains for $49.99, and subscribe for $14.99 a month, as a stand alone product. People who currently owned City of heroes could buy it for the same price (although a discount for existing players would be nice, say $34.99?) and have the option of adding the subscription to COV to their existing account for $5/month more, or switching over their account to COV entirely at no cost.

It would of course be nice if it was free- but in the real world it costs money to make and host these games. I'm more than willing to pay a reasonable amount for a good quality game or expansion.
