Ah, how I've missed having to disagree with you.

And agree with Olantern, pretty much.

Which is funny, because the darker incarnations of Batman have had no issues crippling people if necessary. That said, there is a distinction. Someone killing an attacker in self-defence comes down to them not being able to find a better solution, and it being preferable to the attacker killing the victim. It has to fall under acceptable losses.

But a criminal that has been arrested and 'neutralized'? If Batman had any interest in seeing that happen, he'd testify in court against the three or four of his enemies that aren't legally insane. With the rest actually being legally insane, it's a non-issue unless they move Gotham to Texas.

    Not aerodynamic enough.

But you could combine your desire to gold with the desire to whack someone in the head and hit them in the head with a nine iron, hoping to strike hard enough to sever their head and send it flying across the fairway. In fact, I'd love to see a gameshow based around burying annoying people up to their necks, then taking whacks at the exposed heads with golf clubs. Winner is the one who manages to do sever the head of 'their' celebrity with the least strokes. There wouldn't be any prizes, though. Knocking the heads off of people like Paris Hilton or Richard Simmons should be considered a reward in its own right.

Granted, compared to dwarves for example, they look pretty bad, but their combination of solid allround stats and the stuff they can get through Mutations make them out to be a lot of fun in the long run. Essentially, I'd spent the first half of my first games trying to injure or kill as many enemy players as possible (not nice, I know) while non-Dwarf players would try to play around me.

It helps that I prefer defense and runs with regard to American Football and can't stand the Joe Montana style passing game. No matter how much more effective decicated throwers and catchers might be. You'll see how helpful those are when I've broken all their bones.
  6. Snow White/She-Hulk? Am I missing something here or is that just random?

Snow White and the seven Mutants featuring the All-New All-Different lineup of the X-Men for example would have worked better. Of course, Snow White and the Seven Soldiers of Victory would have been perfect, but... wrong comics company.

Spider-Woman vs. Monsters Inc.? It'd be right up there with her classic Carmine Infantino stories.

    Finding Namor!

Lastly, no Darkwing Duck? Maybe not as potentially funny, but a perfect match for obvious reasons.

    Blood Bowl

Meh. I do kinda hate wasting a Blitz on a guy who might not go through with it. It might be wasteful, but I prefer to just get my Minotaur Block if he doesn't have it and Tentacles, then try to set him up as an obstacle people are forced to move around.

Speaking of Tentacles. On its own it's not as much fun as Tentacles with Shadowing. Guaranteed to ruin the day of Skavens and Skinks sooner or later. And when that Skink does get hit, that Stunty trait will come back to hurt it fatally.

  13. General reply:

    Yes and no.

Making the hundredth clone of an existing game and improving on only one aspect or another, or simply transitioning a proven formula to a different setting can only go so far.

On the other hand, most attempts at doing something else entirely meet with rejection or people trying to shoehorn their tried and true methods from the big formula games into the new game.

As such, it's impossible to truly invent the MMO wheel anew and actually get away with it, I believe.

In that sense, aiming for a smaller, non-massive audience and aligning one's structures accordingly might be sensible. However, the question is whether such an approach is economically viable. If not, it'll remain the domain of hobbyists, but at that point, you might as well go play a MUD or MUSH since it's hard to do appealing graphics without an appropriate budget. Yes I know there are tons of successful indie games out there, thanks to download platforms covering the distribution side these days. But very few of those have graphics in any way comparable to big money productions.

    Oi.

  15. I actually really liked what Morrison said about 'Batman Inc.'.

With all due respects to Bruce, I always thought his talents were even better suited to running the Bat-Family and his business empire in the pursuit of his cause than to just go and beat up thugs. There are... lesser people who can do that just as effectively. But Bruce is one of a kind in the mental department (well, there's Ra's...). Never mind that someone else is wearing the mantle now.
  16. Throwing in my own favourite easy pasta dish. Only a teensy bit more involved than the Goat's Aglio e Olio.

    Torellini alla Panna

You can use other noodles, but I like some meat in my food.

You'll need ham, cream (sweet will do, but I prefer an even mix of sweet cream and crème fraiche for a richer taste; should be a bit more than you have fresh noodles, weight-wise), butter, Italian hard cheese (again, I prefer Grana Padano, but Parmigian Reggiano will actually work perfectly) and fresh tortellini, filled with 'meat'. And a broth cube.

Dissolve the broth cube in about half as much water as you're supposed to and boil. Toss the tortellini into the boiling broth, put a lid on it and turn off the plate.

Get a pan. Any will do in this case in spite my love of cast iron ones. Melt a slice of butter in the pan and meanwhile dice the ham into tiny little cubes or whatever you like. Once the pan is hot enough, fry the ham to get some of the taste out of it and into the butter, but don't allow it to brown. When you're satisfied, slooowly add the cream. Pour a bit of cream, let it warm up and the moment it starts to throw the first bubbles, add more cream. Add the ground hard cheese and stir it in. Let the mixture simmer just below boiling point.

Get your tortellini and drain the rest of the broth. Let them drip off, then add them to the sauce once it has the right consistency. Stir until the noodles have been thoroughly covered on all sides, then serve.

A note on spices: At base, this dish doesn't need any. Many people I know like to add paprika, nutmeg and/or parsley right before adding the noodles (or add the parsley on top of the final dish). I'm partial to paprika and nutmeg, but the one thing you'll never need to add is salt, as the ham will provide for that.

Another note: This isn't healthy, and not for people who can't handle fatty foods. But it tastes ******* awesome.

Two things in favour of this post:

I've never been a fan of garlic presses myself. You end up with too much of the oil (which carries most of the taste) in the bloody press rather than in the mash that comes out, IMO. Chopping (with a really sharp knife) is always better. This also goes for ginger (aimed at a friend of mine who isn't here, but likes to run his ginger through a garlic press when cooking).

**** teflon. Cast iron pans are where it's at. I inherited three from my grandmother, and they're the only ones I use anymore. No-stick pans may be handy, but the food just doesn't taste the same and things don't seem to brown as well.

It was a rhetorical question. All of these guys, like most human beings, have in the past demonstrated the ability to be rather... rigid when the right buttons were pushed. While I realize this is all in good fun, I find it hilarious to point out one person's inflexibility of point of view when it's actually as common in that group as it is anywhere else in human society.

I need a good recipe for Mie Goreng Pedas. I found exactly one on the net, but it doesn't really do it for me.

The best noodle to go with pasta is one you actually make yourself. I forgot what it was called, but there was a BBC series where a guy (a molecular cook by trade) went looking for the perfect version of dishes, including spaghetti bolognese. Now, one thing they did in that episode was actually look at different kinds of noodles under the microscope. Essentially, premade noodles are over-refined. Homemade ones actually come out with a microscopically rough surface that allows sauces to cling to it.

Shop around online for how to make various styles of pasta, I can't be arsed to give a rundown beyond telling you that you need wheat, semolina, an egg or two, salt (YES, SALT) and ideally a teensy bit of olive oil. Heap semolina into a bowl or onto a clean wooden board (I prefer the latter), make a dent in the middle, put the semolina into that dent, make a dent in the semolina then and break the egg into it and also add the olive oil. Slowly work the flour and semolina into the liquid contents, bit by bit. Keep kneading for about 15-20 minutes. Roll out and form into pasta of your choosing.

If you don't think you can handle anything fancy, get yourself a noodle maker to cut strands of dough into tagliatelle.

Once you've done the above a couple times, it'll come easy to you, and then you can really experiment. I like adding a paste of even parts pulped tomato and paprika to the dough. Tomato is how Italians make the red pasta anyway, so it's semi-legal. Green pasta uses spinach, and black pasta for when your Goth friends drop by is made using sepia in the dough.

As an added bonus, fresh pasta really only needs to see boiling water to be done. Unless you want to go for anything but al dente, which I wouldn't recommend cause it's grounds for pubic fogging.

Whole grain noodles. (We presumed this healthy)
I don't know about healthy, but if you use any dried noodles, I'd definitely go for these. Integrali as the Italians call them at least have a bit of taste to them, and a firmer consistency.

    ...I prepurchased spaghetti sauce...
    KHAAAAAAN!

    *ahem*

No, no, and again no. The basic sauce bolognese or what-have you is not hard. You need onions, celery, carrots, tomatoes, wine and either ground beef or the right sausages (my favourite one is essentially the Italian version of a rough ground bratwurst, caraway and all, but there are many alternatives). Chop the vegetables into tiny bits, peel the tomatoes. Warm up a pan, put in some olive oil, throw in the vegetables for a minute or three before adding the meat. When the meat is to your liking, add the tomatoes and watch them melt. Mind you, there are a dozen variations on this recipe, but it's hardly rocket science.

While I generally prefer mine al'arrabiata, I can't stand not having meat in it and am thusly being a heathen about it.
Parmesan cheese. Is this always a given? I assumed so.

    Quote:
    ...Parmesan cheese...
Not big on the Parmigiano with my tomato sauce, personally. It tastes like granny feet. If at all, I tend to use Grana Padano, even if it's considered the lesser of the two, as it doesn't taste offensive to me.
