I think you're the kind of person I'm ******** about in my first post in this thread. Giving someone 'bad Rep' is not nice, granted. But some people have it coming to them. I'm not saying anyone is gonna take bad Rep seriously and change their wicked ways from getting any. I know I usually point and laugh at bad Rep. I prefer to deal with people by attacking them right where they stand, case in point.

But if someone feels that a poster is being a retard or disingenuous or just flat-out wrong-headed, then the forums allow them to let that person know. It is their good right to exercise the means the forums allow them to brand posters they feel are toxic. Giving someone what they're due is outside the frame of reference for 'nice'. It's either justified or not.

So do I, mind you, but the idiocy seems to slowly spread out eastward from the land of Political Correctness.

The other day, I'm on my way home from work. There's some major renovation going on at a hub of the elevated train network, so they're rerouting commuters with buses. It's a steady process but a bus can only handle so many people, so there's a large group of people waiting on their spot.

Through this mass of people, a young woman comes riding her bicycle, not racing but not exactly slowing down either. There's a reason adults are not supposed to ride their bicycles across the sidewalk or through improvised bus stops. People are having to dodge and dart left and right to actually get out of the way of the ***** on her bike. Until she gets to me, of course. Me, I stare her down until it's obvious she won't actually stop, then I just sidestep a little and elbow the ***** in the chest. Not hard enough, unfortunately, as she kept on going for a few more feet, then she comes to a halt and the resulting exchange went like this:

She: "Well, thanks for elbowing me."

Me: "Well, thanks for driving on the ******* sidewalk and making everyone run for their lives."

She: "I had a bad day."

Me: "Yeah, and now you got a bruise on top of it. Wouldn't have happened if you'd actually taken the designated bicycle track."

She: "Are you German? You look German."

    Me: "Yeah...?"

She: "Cause you sound like a Nazi. Are you a Nazi?"

Me (laughing hard): "Hold on a second, you're the one who's not following traffic rules and incoveniencing people to say the least and I'm a Nazi for calling you on it?"

    She: "Yeah."

Now, if she'd been my type this would have made for great foreplay, but alas, she wasn't. And yes, I know someone's gonna be upset about me punching a woman, but that's equality for you. If you want equal treatment, you'll have to take the good with the bad.

I say BOOzeeyek, you say... possibly the same thing, or something similar.
  6. Funny thing I've noticed, numero uno: Some of the biggest twits on the forums have gotten their Rep insanely high via the asinine Forum Games thread or similar means.

Funny thing I've noticed, numero due: I am a negative forum poster. I have three bars of positive Rep. I think people actually do it to annoy me. Someone repped me for ragging on how useless Rep is.

What these prove is that Rep is utterly pointless on its own.

As for people secretly leaving you negative notes because you openly said negative things, that's just the culture of the modern day and age. I've been called insensitive for calling people to task on being irresponsible to the point where they were literally putting people's lives in danger. This is the same kind of culture that awards medals for 23rd place, borne out of some grand idea that everyone's special and unique and worthy of admiration and no precious budding flower should ever be crushed by being told just how bad their ideas really are, how faulty their thought processes, how flawed their vision (I swear, this is not a Jack Emmert dig).

Which is, of course, all poppycock. Raise a child in a sterile environment, and the first time they catch the sniffles in the real world, they'll be hovering on death's door. Also, the backstabbery people perpetrate on those who literally have the spine to stand erect from these huddled servants of conformity shows that the system isn't working to begin with. Or else, shouldn't these masturbatory sycophants be encouraging you to be negative?
  7. If I was in charge of translating CoH into moving pictures...

...I'd realize it's called City of Heroes for a reason. Paragon City is home to a legion of costumed adventurers. Sure, Statesman and the Phalanx are important, but they're not the star. The city is.

As such, a movie would be an episodic tale of interweaving stories all focussing on various people in Paragon City and how the city and its history shaped them. Think Crash with superheroes and alien invasions.

There could be the struggling young heroine only recently arrived in the city, the former costumed crusader who was paralyzed during the first Rikti War, the newsstand vendor who sees all the heroic headlines each day and has become jaded to the whole hero business thing. You could also show new employee orientation at Crey, a teenager who comes under peer pressure to try out Dyne or the Hellion Initiate needing to prove himself by doing his first arson job. There wouldn't be a lot of costumed fights involving the main characters and an awful lot of dialogue. There would however be at least one major battle between the Phalanx and a suitably impressive enemy serving as the backdrop for part of the narration, and I'd like to give screentime to other Paragon luminaries such as the Clockwork King as well.

Just never in a major role. The city's the star, and it's made up of ALL the people who live in it.

Oh please. All the math needed to make a Champions character is 4th to 5th grade stuff. A piece of paper to keep track of point costs and totals helps, though.
  9. Actually, let me try and do something noone expects here.

IF there are underpopulated servers, then the obvious way to go is to create an incentive to make characters on those servers. WAR gives XP and Renown bonuses for servers or factions with low populations for example. Though I feel this might actually not be the way to go since levelling to 50 quicker will not really do a lot for anyone once they've hit that number.

Instead I suggest increasing drop rates for everything on low population servers. Everything. From small Inspirations to Purples.

There, incentive given, no merger necessary, OP proven to be the retart he shapes up to be, entire forum community shamed for heedlessly flaming said retart, I win.

Oh yeah, I totally didn't read this thread, so if someone actually made a similar suggestion already? Eh, whatever.

  14. Get the HERO System Rulebook and the Champions background (pen and paper, not the online travesty). Would solve all those problems in a heartbeat. Well, once everyone has read through a few hundred pages of rules anyhow.

That's not a problem. Supposedly, infinity loops around in the infinite and 'returns' as negative infinity. Or vice versa.
  16. Threads like this one make me sad.

Noone's ever tried to force themselves on me, mentally or otherwise. Of course, I doubt people would want to be in the heads of my mains. One's excessively crowded and one's just not exactly a nice vacation spot. Which makes it all the sadder.
  17. Lock the door. Polish girls are lovely.

    Boys and girls

Male playing about 95% males. Every once in a while I get a concept in my head that calls for a female character, but they all end up looking like hookers, so I end up not playing them.

That was actually Sinestro's original yellow ring. It was the same in all respects, just lacking (and exploiting) the yellow impurity of the old GL rings and actually being recharged by feeding off of GL energy rather than from a battery. If Guy's evil clone, the Enforcer is still out there he should still have that ring.

    Charlie Chop-Chop
    Danny Dashing
    Erin Expeditious
    Frankie Flash
    Hasty Hank
    Lisa Lickety
    Nathan Nimble
    Perry Pronto
    Quinton Quick
    Richie Rapid
    Screamin' Steve

And that's LIMITING myself to VERY specific rules of "normal" name + "fast name" + alliteration and giving it a minute or two of thought.

Anyone that complains about not being able to get an APPROPRIATE name for their character is just simply uncreative. PERIOD.
Yeah. Cause Batty Bruce and Tony Tin sound so much better than Batman and Iron Man, respectively.

As people have pointed out time and again, there is a TINY element of personal preference involved. I find all the names you've given dodgy at best. Valid, sure, but not exactly top of the heap. More like a Dial H for Hero selection than someone who could head up their own book.

I can see why people would rather have something a bit catchier. One nice Speedster name I've seen in-game and haven't seen in comics was Breakneck for example. Very sleek and far more down my alley if I were to make a Speedster.

And something related. Way back when in this thread, someone mentioned using foreign languages. Seriously only do this if you know what you're doing. At best use a singular noun found in the dictionary, and only use that if there are no alternates given. Some (most) languages are not as user-friendly as English, for example when forming composites.

In all honesty, you deserve more than that. Like, a slap up the back of your miserable head. And a boot to the teeth, possibly. You're being straight-out irrational on this one.

The lying bit was straight-out unfounded, considering your quote. After all it's been pointed out by several people that there currently are several Flashes and obviously tons of GLs (one of which is not associated with the Corps, by the by) concurrently. And if we look at the pre-Crisis DCU, we got tons of everyone.

Hardly any lying involved in stating fact.

Next up, belittling anyone who has their heart set on an already taken name. It's not exactly worse, but it's hardly better. Yes, there is a ton of nominally valid names, but there is only going to be a limited amount of names that I want. You're free to not like that idea, but the guy's idea is not exactly on the same level as 'let's all eat kittens' and hardly deserves that kind of ****.

You on the other hand do. Here's your ****.
  23. The Mighty Crusaders had, at some point in the 80s, two completely unrelated characters called 'the Shield' in them.

What about the Jay Garrick Flash? The Alan Scott Green Lantern? A recent issue of JSA had 3 Hourmen in the same story. And let's not even get into the number of Starmen, -girls and -women.

If you happen to have the old Handbook to the Marvel Universe issues, you'll notice several instances of one name being used by several characters. A lot of the alternate versions are not necessarily concurrent, and yes, often some or all versions are not exactly well-known or beloved characters. But it's not unheard of.
  24. By the same token, ie. our characters being the stars of their own stories, I do however find they deserve quality names. PK makes a nice argument, which is utterly utterly flawed. Because, as has been pointed out, not all of his ideas are valid. Sure, we could just set up a name generator that mixes and adjective or title with a noun, but don't come running to me if you're stuck with the Flatulent Reaper, Leprosy Lad or Mr. Sister.

Of all those words and letters, there are only so many valid heroic or villainous or even just dramatic combination. And only a given percentage will actually both fit my tastes and wants, and the character concept. Granted, I once had a Fire/Fire Blaster called Empathy Healer, but you know what I'm talking about.

As such, I don't see anything wrong with freeing up names that haven't been on paid accounts for years now. Staggering should take care of most worries. Hasn't been paid for since before 2nd Anniversary? Free up. Hasn't been paid for since before 3rd Anniversary? Free up anything but 50s. Just for fun, have the crawler that does the freeing compile a list and post it up somewhere.

    Defender Debate

I think increasing the hitpoints is a good way of buffing defenders without infringing on the other ATs turf. It would also give players a reason to pick defenders over corrupters.
Once upon a time, it used to be Defenders had more HPs than both Blasters and Controllers. At the time, Blasters were nevertheless somewhat overpowered due to various factors (mostly an out of whack Smoke Grenade). Once those factors were fixed, it turned out that Blasters were actually useless. So the Devs kept throwing stuff like more HP and a new Inherent at the AT in an effort to make it worthwhile.

The Defender Inherent was just added in to insult Defender players clamoring for an Inherent of their own after everyone else had gotten one. Essentially it's the Devs saying 'shut up and heal, n00b'. In other words, I wouldn't expect anything to come out of that. After all, Defenders are fine as they are, even with low HP and Negligence.
