Clearly, the Merit Vendor is not producing a sufficient supply of these new recipes.
[/ QUOTE ]
The "problem" is that the newly created difficulty in getting the right sets may be "working as intended". -
[ QUOTE ]
The numbers on the Profiteer bonus are too weak.
A common IO recipe drop from the Chronologist badge is worth over 100,000 (just talking Vendor prices, never mind market value) and I can get multiples of drops from the same charge-up time it takes to score one Profiteer token. So Chronologist is "worth" 200k or more.
The Crafting Token, on the other hand, is worth at most 122k, assuming I have a need to craft a rare level 50 IO, which isn't too frequent.
Profiteer should be significantly better than the direct results of other day jobs since it takes a 42 day prerequisite.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I was "working towards" Profiteer as well, but when you compare the bonuses from Marketeer/Profiteer versus Chronologist/Time Lord... -

I'm usually in your camp on many things, but how is this not exploitive PowerLeveling for a fee?
[/ QUOTE ]
In fairness...that is exactly what is happening ingame now. If you go to PI on Freedom, people are paying 1-2 million per fun on farms.
[/ QUOTE ]
We can buy fun directly now? -
[ QUOTE ]
Why do the Sting of the Manticore recipes cost so many merits?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because when you look at it from a distance, the recharge bonus isn't half bad, and so the merit prices are roughly in line with other sets that give similar bonuses. Merit prices are based on the set's value in the abstract, not how much value actual players assign to the set. -

I do find the concept somewhat fun, but for some reason I don't like it. I don't often remember heroes doing wrong because of duress or not main heroes at least. Maybe the second hand heroes that I don't remember the names of. The main heroes might have pretended until they did something to the ones causing them duress, but they never actually helped them completely.
[/ QUOTE ]
Let's be honest, there's a LOT of missions redside where the objective at the end is hardly evil - or even selfish!
Hero: "So - you want me to help you stop an insane priest at the head of an army of brainwashed Freakshow from reviving a terrible Leviathan which will probably, if released, consume the entire civilized world. And you think you need to go through some complicated blackmail scheme to get me to come along?"
Villain: "Well, he wants to make me a human sacrifice first, and I didn't want you to think I was, you know, wimpy or something." -

The original "Scratch n Pray" cards were a PITA. Having used several timecards in the past, I am glad to know of this improvement.
[/ QUOTE ]
I end up carefully dissecting the "scratch" cards. You can peel the entire silver-and-plastic cover off of the code with a little effort. It's kind of an indictment of how much the scratch ones suck that going at them with a knife is much more reliable at getting the code out intact than using them in the intended manner! -

Just to be a jerk sometimes I got the /release_pets command on a macro, this also insta-kills the table if you dont want others using it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um...Ok..
[/ QUOTE ]
I admit I've occasionally despawned my crafting table early while on villains. Particularly if someone has just come up and started using it. No real reason, I just feel like it. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you leave your recipe window open, you can continue to craft in it after the table explodes. Given that, I wouldn't mind if the table hung around longer to reduce window clutter.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sometimes I can get the window to stick around, sometimes I can't. Sometimes it closes no matter what I do, sometimes I can leave it open as long as I want. I'm pretty sure it's a bug. -
[ QUOTE ]
You may want to add more to the useability of the table.
I have it on one character and my interest in getting it on others is negligible since I need it most while I am pursuing it (mega crafting in the market while buying salvage and recipes).
I probably haven't used it 10 times since I got it last year.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wish it was summonable more often. Or lasted longer. Why is the crafting table on a harsher summon schedule than the Oroborous portal? All it does is make us not have to go zone to the base to craft.
<hits market>
<you have 15 bought items!>
<summon table>
<craft craft craft>
<fiddle around a bit>
<you have bought [last thing you needed to craft with]>
<you have got [last thing you needed] from the market>
<table, sensing this, explodes>
<table is recharging> -

BTW, Positron just posted a reply on the reasons for the changes. And has said nothing about the problems except "well, maybe some TFs could have their minimum reduced"
[/ QUOTE ]
Positron's post unfortunately suffers from the fallacy of "you must be disagreeing because you don't understand". Whereas in fact many people are disagreeing despite (or perhaps because of) understanding what the change was aimed at. -

For an average player, the Cap, Sky Raider, Leviathan and Ice Mistral SFs, and the Respec Trials; already require 4 people to complete successfully since they all feature final AVs that you don't have much chance defeating if there are only 3 villains or fewer on the team.
[/ QUOTE ]
I just completed the Leviathan SF two days ago with only 3. 2 Brutes and a corruptor. (I'm energy/energy) Are you calling me an above average player? Thanks!

SadysCHICK 497 badges

Nobody with that many badges can make any claim to being a casual or average player. -

Overall, I would say that the philosophy of putting PvE in the PvP zones, as a means of encouraging non-PvPers to participate, has failed miserably. It has only served to polarize the two sides even further.
[/ QUOTE ]
Though some of these features are more problematic than others. The Siren's Call time badge being a requirement for a villain accolade being the most vexing of them all. Stuff like that might as well have been designed specifically to fill everyone involved with homicidal rage. -
[ QUOTE ]
Otherwise, You'll have to go find PvP on a different MMO, cause it looks like they are gonna scrap it all together.
[/ QUOTE ]
The first thing I thought of when I read this was "but then where will I get Shivans?"
Strangely that was also the second thing I thought of. -

[ QUOTE ]
If they added world PvP I'd either adapt or move on.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the problem is too many people would move on.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah; I'm not sure I would leave because of that, but it would mean a lot of the people I play with would abandon the game the moment it looked like world PvP was going to be implemented, much less it even getting to the live server. Wether or not they're correct in doing so, it would still leave me rather lonely. -

Makes me wonder what kind of content Boomtown has in CoH that isn't found in any other zone.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, it has missions in it. Missions that you got in other zones that have been randomly placed in Boomtown to create the "content" of hopping around the city and zoning to get to them.
If villains would like hazard zones for their missions to be randomly placed in so that they can enjoy the content that is the zone load screen, I think we should give them this, as a lesson that one should be careful what one asks for. -

As it should have. Giving Blasters Unstoppable is unforgivable.
[/ QUOTE ]
And yet some folks want to compound one error by duplicating it villanside ?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. It's called a level playing-field.
Make PPP's available to Heroes through some series of quests.
Make EPP's available to Villains.
Call it a day.
[/ QUOTE ]
More choices = more better.
At 40+, everyone should have a choice between
1) a Patron Pool (one of the Arachnos Elite or Freedom Phalanx, depending on your faction - basically a set of powers in the theme of your patron)
2) a Mastery Pool (elemental/weaponry/generic energy type pools like the current hero "epics" - for people who don't like the Patron Pools for flavor or suck reasons)
3) a 5th Generic Power Pool for people who think both the Patron and Mastery pools are a waste of their time, but would really like to fit in Recall Friend in a build that already had 4 Power Pool choices.
Then you could have your cake and eat it too. You could still have "pick one patron you're stuck with forever", but you could respec FROM that Patron Pool to one of the Mastery pools or the 5th generic. -
[ QUOTE ]
We have a few shared zones with most zones being for one faction only, while they have only a few faction only zones with most being shared.
[/ QUOTE ]
So the division between "they're the same game" and "they're seperate" is an entirely arbitrary count or percentage of shared zones?
I applaud your willingness to admit this is totally arbitrary. -
[ QUOTE ]
If CoV and CoH really are just one in the same to some of you, then why are you fighitng so hard against more CoV specific features?
[/ QUOTE ]
For the same reason that people occasionally get into arguements about which tier of the game ought to get the next content addition. ("I'm so bored in the 30-40 tier!" "More missions for 50s plz"). People want content in the section of the game that's most interesting to them, or in the section of the game that the majority of people are playing. -
[ QUOTE ]
Sooner or later the developers will figure out that writing missions briefings to sound like we're working for ourselves, rather than for the one big bad, is an easy step that would improve things tremendously.
[/ QUOTE ]
I find it hard to really blame the developers for this one. What we really need is more branching-style story arcs, where your choices actually matter. And that would be staggeringly difficult to retrofit into the existing system. If there's ever a CoH 2 though... -
[ QUOTE ]
But that still doesn't make them "the same game".
[/ QUOTE ]
CoH and CoV are different games in exactly the same way that Pinnacle server and Infinity server are different games. -

If someone handed you the Holy Grail you'd complain it was only half full of the Milk of Human Kindness.

You're darn right I would. If someone's going to go to the trouble of getting the Holy Grail, they can at least top that sucker up. -

Why keep playing the character if theres nothing left to do with them?
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe because for some people, character development isn't the be all, end all of enjoyable game playing?
Boggles the mind, no?

lolrp
[/ QUOTE ]
RP nothing; I think he was referring to "levelling up". I have a number of characters at 50, several of them with far more set bonuses than anyone really needs, and I still enjoy playing them. I may not pull them out solo much, outside of events, but I'll still run task forces or exemplar down to join people I know.
Even though the characters aren't "earning" anything anymore, they don't stop being fun to play. I wouldn't have gotten them to 50 and IO/HO'd them if that weren't true. -
[ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't mind if the developers (If it is even possible with this engine) to somehow create a co-op zone where there is no instance missions. All of the content and story arcs take place in the "real" zone. There could be certain spawns and NPCs you might have to hunt. (Destroy the Nemesis Horse Automation) Yes it would be similar to World of Warcraft but there should be a balance.
[/ QUOTE ]
To an extent this is in the game already - just look at the PvP zone missions. The problem is balancing it in such a way that people keep doing it - and are able to keep doing it with the inevitably diminished participation after the majority of players have the badges from it and are back to their instances.
Story arcs in non-instanced missions though? No way. -

Blame the bug that allowed for infinite fedex type mish completions while the trial was in progress. Many Sg/Vgs exploited it, and since the devs couldnt tell everyone who had exploited they couldnt touch those peoples accumulated prestige/inf/exp or there would have been a huge public outcry, so they simply took the trial offline siting a major bug (which it was) and then kinda shelved it...
I for one never got to play the trial, I wish I had, and I really really want it back. If I knew how to code, and had the experience i would work for Cryptic for free on this one issue, just so that it could go back in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Gunna cry newb on this, what did this bug do?
[/ QUOTE ]
For some reason, unlike a normal TF, the Cathedral of Pain didn't blank out your other missions while you were on it. However, it ALSO didn't let you clear any other missions. So if you had a "click this person" mission, like a delivery to Azuria, you could join a CoP trial, then go to Azuria, click, get the reward, but the mission wouldn't clear. So you click her again. And again. Repeat until clicky mission is outlevelled.
