Hey Von, just a quick note to say that Mime or Chilling wont be on for a wee while as the monitor on my pc has decided to move on to silicon heaven. So till I get my new one, ile just have to content myself with watching Heroes that i got from a friend. A really great show!!!
Mime's Don't talk! -
Midknight Grasp forms part of my opening combo to drop an lt and a minion in very quick succession. BU+AS lt, placate 3rd mob if there or if not mob ure about to hit - MG. 2 down in a scaryily short amount of time. and if you solo on vicious, thats often the 2 mob spawn gone, if its a 3 mob one, then uve got time to wait for AS again on the third. MG's immob helps too, ile often just leave them there to play with the tentacles while i go on the next one, depending on the lvl of the minion, it will often finish them off with the DoT too. Also when ure teaming with someone with Ghost Widows immob (cant remember what its called) the combination of your black tentacles and their white cool ones just looks great!

DM/SR is a great set (yes im biased). The -acc stacks well with the pure defensiveness of SR. Piling on all that acc debuff, especially when u get Touch of Fear can leave u going whole fights barely getting hit. Only downside of the set is that u dont get a decent 3rd attack to use out of hide till lvl 32, so if u feel ure lacking, take Air Superiority and spec out of it, or just hit and run a bit more till 26 when u get ToF. Or do like me, just stand there, watch ureself not get hit, and then get hide back up, works often too. Now im 45, this set is becoming really stunning to use. Last night i tanked for a team of 4, and several times cleaned up the spawn after popping elude through useing ToF, soul storm and Midnight Grasp to full effect. Nothing quite like having everyone cheer u on, clearing the whole mass of mobs and still have enough energy left to look smug afterwards. All i can say is, ENJOY IT! Not getting hit becomes so much fun!

Do any stalkers bother taking the ppp pet? getting near to 47 now and could take my night widow if i felt like it, but atm am thinking i could use the power slot for something else (like finally getting tp friend or stealth). I can see that they might have some use, like being cannon fodder for a boss/EB or on a big team for extra dps, or for entertainment value at least) but is it worth taking or not? is it just an lt or a boss? any views on pets would be welcome, as you lot do often seem to offer good advice on this kinda thing and a newbie like me does appreciate it.

Well not having had a hold before I didnt know, but ile skip the damage then. 2 acc 3 hold and 1 rch sounds abour right i think, got hasten and quickness to do the rest for me.
thanks for stopping me from making the mistake! (kinda why i asked lol) -
Well i went with Ghost Widow, and now that dark blast is fully slotted up im really starting to love the range it gives me. After an awesome team last night and the insanity that is 2xp weekend, i finally got to 44! (does happy dance /e drumdance) So i chose soul storm and played around with it on the team. Its kinda an odd power, with a long activation time, which looks really cool cos u float, but is kinda slow when compared to DM as a set. Now i can see this having some real uses while im soloing, but doesnt if have any real use apart from entertainment value on a team? also what can ppl recommend i slot it with? is it worth slotting for damage? was thinking 2 acc 3 dam and 1 hold?
any suggestions would be most welcome. -
You calling me a lunatic? *looks at moon* oh nvm!
Oh and what do ppl think? would a mime dentist be the ultimate in evil? -
Hello there! Finally an invite from the famous DHP! Yay! I look forward to having fun with ya all, am currently doing mishs with ppl already! oh the fun! See u all on chat!
-
I also learnt why ppl hate illusionists so much. After spending the best part of lvl 39 doing paper mishs and going up against the carnies a lot, I finally figured out why every so often, u get "unaffected" over the illusionsists head. Dunno what they do but they do some kinda phase out thing where you cant affect them with anything. Wait by them till they appear totally opaque again, then smack em. Nothing more annoying that missing your AS, but not being able to follow up after, sucks worse.

Any other SR stalkers find that EBs just take time and patience? or does ToF just rock that much? Anyone else ever taken out a red ballistae and only been hit twice? Without Elude?
Also yeh its always best when solo to thin the crowd out till its just the boss left. Brutes love minions cos of rage, we dont. -
I can only speak for Dark Melee here, as ive no experience with EA, but I love DM as a set. Sure EM gets the upfront damage and is great for single target attacks and pvp, but when im busy controlling the mobs around me, and still attacking heavily, and the EM ran off to get back into hide, well even a brute was impressed. Dont bother with Shadow Punch, learn to love and abuse Smite (a great quick attack out of hide) play around with Shadow Maul, it takes a lot of getting used too, Touch of Fear is possibly my fave power in the whole set. Make Even bosses cower in front of you while you stand there and let your hide go back up. Midknight Grasp as your lvl 32 power is a great one, as often I will just leave someone in a pit of tentacles and concentrate on the next one. DM is a great set for those that want to get a bit more scrappy and not the hit-and-run style stalker.
Dont really here much about EA, or SR or even DA for that matter, most ppl go either regen or nin, so all i can say is, best of luck witht he combo, and let us know how it goes! -
My choice of partners can vary. A good partner can be from any AT really. However some are better than others, and can largely depend on what mish you are doing and how youi like to do them.
For duoing and general ghosting mishes with, you just cant beat another stalker (Big shout out to Boo Cat), or at least someone with invis. Double AS will kill most bosses with just a quick follow up, ghosting mishs becomes very fast with good exp, and you understand each other, pick your targets and go to town.
For kidknap, rescue type mishs, a good MM is often my fave, they can take the flak, and have the pet, while I can run point.
A good dom, esp a plant one, is great for a stalker to team with, those extra crits are always nice and a well controlled mob is what we really love.
A corr is often my last choice esp for a duo, ive killed too many of them cos of placate.
Brutes are a mixed bag. Brutes make us look bad. When they get rage focus and just run on a head, we often cant keep up, and dont get to use our AS on troublesome mobs as we would like. However, when you just want something to take the aggro for you, and nothing else is around, they can serve their purpose as cannon fodder for you. If there are more than one brute on the team, or the brute is dictating the pace, ile often leave the team, it just gets too messy for my liking.
So in order:
Stalker (for general)
MM (for kidknaps)
Dom (kidknaps)
Brute (kidknaps)
Corr (for helping them with their debt badge) -
Just remembered another one. One of the things a stalker does best on a team is take out troublesome mobs. In order to do this, learn what the troublesome mobs are. Stalkers are the assasin class of the game. You think a good assasin just goes and kills someone withouth finding out about them first? Look up mob types on paragonwiki, right click and click info on a mob you are not familiar with, or just when you are bored waiting for BU to come back up. Sometimes these lil descriptions can give you valuable information. Learn what mobs do things that are not just outright attacks, the debuffers, the mezzers, the ones that call for backup, the rezzers, the healers, the sappers, or just any mob that has a tendency to annoy people if they dont get taken out quickly. Usually as a stalker you can just one hit these people, often without team mates even noticing what you did. This is the ability many stalkers should do on a team, are expected to do on a team, and dont, and then wonder why they dont get asked to team much.
So learn your mobs, makes dropping them all the more fun.
Also learn to time your rehide and AS together. When a mob has been placted you usually have about 10 seconds before they start trying to hit you again. After you have finished off all their buddies, stand in front of them and try to get the timing down so that you actually hit them with your AS just after hide has kicked back in. Waiting for hide to reappear again to fire AS off can sometimes mean the difference between killing the mob and them breaking you out of hide before you can AS themm, which can be very annoying. Learn to time it perfectly and your killing efficacy goes way up. oh and get it wrong, and the mob will probs laugh at you. -
I intend this to be a thread about things players have learnt about playing a stalker effectively either through their own discovery or being told by others. A thread devoted to helping those who want to take the up stalker AT but know they can be played very badly. I am by no means a very experienced player of the stalker AT, but I do feel I've learnt a lot along the way, and would like to open up the thread to all those who feel they can part with some of their stalker-wisdom.
1) Placting an ememy and then using AS or another attack on them should only be done when its the only enemy left to hit. Otherwise your just wasting 10 secs of the enemy scratching his bum.
2) Learn to change target when you enter your AS crouch pose, then hit placate, so that as soon as your done killing the first mob, a second is wondering where you went and then you can move on to the next.
3) Vicious is a solo stalkers heaven. More exp than villainous and malicious, the mobs will be +1 or +2 of you, but as a stalker 2 mobs of a higher level is much better for you than 4 of a similar lvl. Stalkers aren't crowd friendly, and large groups of enemies make them run away, fast. If you plan on doing your own missions while still on vicious, be aware of other players just 1 lvl below you, seeing a purple Lt and boss can freak ppl out.
4) Teaming as a stalker can be great fun, but make sure others on the team know what a stalker is for, as many ppl dont. Make sure they know to let you get into position behind some pesky minion or LT. Leave the bosses till later, unless your the only real damage dealer around. Make sure they know that if you run off during downtime, your coming back, and that not all areas they can see on the map will be clear.
5) When duoing, especially with something very squishy like a corr, be mindfull of using placate, as it sheds the aggro from you, and makes then run towards what else is in their view. While very funny seeing the corr wet themselves seeing that freakshow tank take a swing at them, it will often leave you with a dead corr who might just forget to heal you next time. So make sure the mob you placate is either held, or that your squishy friend is out of splatting distance.
6) Make friends with other stalkers. While generally solo players, duoing with another stalker can be great fun. You both understand how to play them (hopefully!) and you can organise yourselves to strike with devastating precision, and not the free for all teaming with other ATs can be. Double AS on a boss with BU will take out most bosses, or at least reduce them to low enough HP for just a quick follow up move.
7) Be assertive when on a team. If your just going along for the ride, it aint half as fun as when you get to do what stalkers do best. For any that ask you why the hell you keep running away, explain. (BTW, staying and scrapping will often make them appreciate you more anyway). Tell them to wait for you to at least to use BU before they charge in. Nothing more annoying that having your AS interrupted cos the brute ran in too early. Politely tell ppl that are unaware of a stalkers assets, and you will become an asset to the team.
Well thats all for now. I wonder what other usefull tips there are to share -
Hehe Rats, Ever Been spanked by a midget?
I saw 3 midgets all in a line (I was one of them) at the invention tables today, i nearly fell off my chair laughing. -
Hey there, sounds like a fun group.
Add Mime Artiste , my DM/SR 4ft stalker if you want a new recruit. He should hit 35 tonight. I'm usually on most days, if only for a while, and when i get the chance, a long while -
Well my lil guy is looking for an SG right about now. He's on Union server, villains (of course) Mime Artiste (What's creepier than a mime artiste? a midget Mime Artiste that can sneak up in front of you and punch you where it hurts!). He's 4ft, though with his pvp Top hat costume on, hes a lil bit taller
-
I would have loved to have seen that too! A whole SG full of shorties? What server and on which side!! sounds hilarious!
Also i found another reason for making shorties, especially brutes; Short Angry Man syndrome. Its when short men overcompensate by being overly aggressive. Running round and bashin peoples heads in repeatedly sound familiar to anyone? -
I make all my chars 4ft tall for a few reasons.
1. It's funny
2. You get lots of 'awww cute'
3. Helps hiding in small spaces, or getting through things like pipes in sewers.
4. It's funny when you punch mobs in the groin.
5. It's funny when you get those really tall council members, you attack their kneecaps!
6. It's funny!
It wont affect how ppl see you, but it might just help when you can hide behind that crate to break Line Of Sight, that and you just feel a bit stealthier. It just me? -
As a stalker I feel like stalkers are at a fundamental disadvantage when it comes to the IO sytem. Were stealth chars, we only engage what we have to or whats fun to do. Ghosting missions is one of the best parts of being a stalker, completing a mission in 30seconds cos we can just run to the end and do it is great. But when we have to kill stuff to get recipies and parts, whats this mean for stalkers? Anyone else forsee a slight problem with this system for this archetype? We gonna have to start clearing out all our missions just to ensure we get all the salvage? Or are we simply going to be spending insane amounts on the black market in order to buy things? Or just be gimped cos were the class that unless teamed, or its the mish, rarely take on the whole map's spawn and therefore dont get the all the invention origin enhancements?
Also with all the new stealth IO's coming out, will hide become a power only usefull for PvE? Or will the perception race take a new leap forward?
Anyone else feel that stalkers are put at a disadvantage with this system? -
OOO a whole breed of nakie stalkers in big top hats in the pvp zones? Now that would be funny! I think I might just make that my next costume slot! A Big top hat, bare chest, little trunks and a big grin! Hehehehe
-
Ok to move away from the tea thread and to keep things silly, use this post for telling your best CoV jokes, especially any relating to stalkers!
Umm dam, can't think of one at the moment.... anyone? -
I was looking on the US forums and found this thread that made me laugh my ... off
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...art=1&vc=1
For those of you not bothered enough to read its about how some guy got annoyed at this one stalker cos he was one of many that had killed him, while wearing a top hat. My lil guy wears a bowler hat, just goes with the costume, but I have never seen a stalker with a top hat on the Euro servers. Most seem to be wearing hoods to go with the ninja stylee thing. But after seeing this thread, who feels tempted to add a top hat to their pvp costume?
I would love to see a 8 man stalker team, all wearing top hats!!! -
There is another way to make tea? I thought everyone poured the water onto the teabag. It's just what makes sense.

I've got a DM/SR stalker that I really love. All the accuracy debuffing and dodging makes me smile a lot, esp when the whole alpha volley from a big mob misses me entirely. I've been using Touch of Fear for a while and am still getting used to it. I wanted to know any tips ppl had for using it and its slotting. At the moment its got 2 accuracy 1 acc-debuff and 1 end reducer. When applied several times to a boss, it makes them cower, which is always fun! but the main thing I want is to not be hit. But adding extra acc-debuff uses up a ton of end. So should I just slot it for fear? I mainly want it for boss control, as the minions dont scare me, and lts are usually dead anyway.
I mostly solo on vicious so am taking on stuff 2-3 lvls above me, and while it adds an extra bit of crowd control, I dont usually need it less im teaming. So what would be good slotting for making boss's and EB's cry and miss me all the time? I will have this 6 slotted next lvl, any advice would be appreciated.
