    Immersion. funny word that.

My Immersion is broken every time I open a mission window and see "Heroic"

My Immersion is broken every time I do a co-op mission and can't pass an awaken.

My immersion is broken every time I do a mayhem on a stalker and longbow runs right to me.

My immersion is broken when I go to the RWZ, and a Vanguard op talks to me like I am a hero.

My immersion is broken when I can fight WITH longbow but AGAINST Arachnos in the RWZ.

My immersion is broken every time I have to save some lame Hero in the RWZ.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My immersion is shot dead, repeatedly, when a hero and villian cannot fight one another.

This is how Star Wars Galaxies was originally designed. It was way too griefable, so they removed it. One of the VERY few smart things those Devs accomplished.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Never knew that. How did they grief the system and how did the devs fix it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

A group of PvP players would ride around the outskirts of a well-populated city, waiting for a player to come out to do a faction-specific mission (note in SWG there were no such thing as instanced missions - they much more often than not took place out in the open plains). Player starts shooting, gets flagged for PvP, and gets smacked down in 8 to 1 fights.

The Devs could have handled it differently, but they decided to take the most extreme route possible: remove the flags entirely.
  3. [ QUOTE ]

First idea having three maps for all zones. A hero side map a villain side map and a pvp map of the zones. If you don't want to pvp then don't if you do want to pvp then do it. With only certain maps being co-op. Mostly for maps with a mutual threat similar to the shadow shards and such.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I could get behind this, but I don't see it ever getting any use. The current PvP population is already strained between the 4 PvP zones. Having, what, 40+? zones all PvP-able will see almost no action.

    [ QUOTE ]
Second thought Co-op for all maps with ability to set yourself as hostile towards either faction. Such as say you are a hero and you attack a arachnos guards it would flag you as hostile towards villains and you would be open for getting attacked by any nearby villains. The same is true for Villains if they attack a Longbow guard they are flagged as a hostile for heroes to take out.

I eagerly await you attempts to give a reasonable argument for why opening the zones isn't a good idea.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And I eagerly awaits your attempts to give a reasonable arguement why it is. Yes, villians need new zones, but opening up all zones to both sides would require just as much work, if not more work (tons of new contacts in all zones, missions, etc.) than just giving Villians some new, unique zones, so I just don't see it being plausible.

For the record, I was not one of those people who thought it was not 'immersive' to have repeatable respecs, or even loot. All those are perfectly fine with me. I just have to put my foot down at this, though.
  5. I'm finding this hilarious how you all accuse me of using a tired arguement when you are repeating yourselves as well.

My final response: I don't give a damn how un-immersed this game is now, there's not point in making it worse.

I'm a bit disappointed it ever turned into this, because I really like the OP's suggestion until Geko hijacked the thread, like he does with every other of this topic.

I'm not asking for hardcore immersion, I just don't want to see heroes and villians palling around. It's stupid. I'm sick of co-op content as much as anyone else, and I'd like to see more Hero VS Villians content instead. Making all zones open and not giving us any PvP content is so far removed from the comic books this game was based on it's laughable. I don't care if other games do it, this isn't other games. Maybe in Good and Evil can mingle in one world, Rebels and Imperials in another, but Heroes and Villians, just, no.

The arguement is not any more tired than the one FOR opening all zones.

[/ QUOTE ]Wouldn't be co-op content. What's stupid and silly is shutting people off in their own zones.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then what would it be? The way I see it, it's co-op or PvP. A 'neutral' just doesn't make sense.

Open all zones to both sides.

Create a new PvE structure that allows people to "fight" (as in oppose by means other than combat) the other faction.

Example, Longbow creates bases in all Villain zones and gives sabotage and liberation missions to heroes. Arachnos creates similar bases in Paragon and gives villains an opportunity to do what they do best.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No.

Now, if neither side can battle each other, it DOES break immersion. Obviously no game will have absoloute immersion until we have full-fledged virtual reality, but that still doesn't mean games shouldn't try. If I see Mr. Evil robbing a bank I want to stop him. Comics are all about hero vs. villian, and having us in a giant, perpetual Pocket D really ruins that. Many other things break immersion, sure, but none to that level of stupidity. Besides, even if we have many non-immersive things what's the point in making it worse?

Having open-world PvP, sure. I'd love open-world PvP if every player was mature and fun. However, as we all know, that's a pipe dream. We'll be stuck with jerks, [censored], babies, and everything else that comes with giving players free-reign to harrass each other. I'm sure they could add more drones in all zones, but players will find a way. They always do.

In short, it would never work, unless we get a Dev who manages to think up the most balanced and fun open-world PvP ever, which sounds about as momentous sliced bread.
  9. QR: I'm replying only to the OP.

I love your suggestions, if even a third of that post were implemented it would make PvP so much better.
  10. QR:

First off, hats off to the OP for making an intelligent post like this.

I whole-heartedly agree low-level CoH needs a revamp. New mission maps to remove the monotony, more convientenly placed mission maps, less travel. While I don't have any problem flying from Atlas Park to Kings Row every once in a while, it's not particularly fun at level 5. The idea of the Hollows being a self-contained zone for quicker missioning is great, but it defeats it's own purpose by sending you through +5 mobs to a mission over a mile away. I'd rather take the train to Skyway and hike it there...

I also agree with Veteran Rewards. Sure, they are nothing that important, and I really don't give a flying hoo-haw for the temporary powers and costume tokens. However, I want the costume pieces. I'm of the opinion we should be able to choose which rewards to take at certain veteran rewards. For example, every veteran reward with a temporary power should let us choose which power we want, regardless of it's level, for our entire account. Perhaps the magic wand fits more of my characters than Sands of Mu. Or at a landmark that awards a costume set, we should pick. Perhaps I want the Tech Armor now, and will leave the Kilts for later. Just to reinforce it, I'd much rather have the faction chest emblems rather than the Greek alphabet. If the rewards get incrementally better, as I don't believe they do, this should not be overpowered, and if it was, then we'd have a problem right now.

To me.. it seems like a huge rip off.

$10 for some costumes that I doubt I'll ever use and four lowly emotes? No powers? No badge? $10 for something that I expect to see in most updates?

    HUGE rip-off.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You seem to have your terminology comfused. Where you said "huge rip-off", you should have said "package I'm not interested in". Just because you don't find it useful doesn't mean it's a rip-off. Those of us who like it will buy it. If you don't, then don't buy it. No rip-off there.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd still call it a huge rip-off. I have absoloutely 0% interest in every in the pack except the tuxedo, which I really want. For me, it's $10 for a single costume piece, a.k.a. huge rip-off.

I sincerely hope NCSoft doesn't make this costume pack thing a new habit.
  12. I don't like it. I hope these buyable packs don't become NCSoft's new favorite thing. It affects me directly - I was going to make a magician-themed character, but now I feel a bit slighted that I'll have to pay an extra $10 for a really cool tux for his costume.

Not to mention, if they really must do it, at least give us a bit more in the pack.

It's pretty easy to make something with the half-helmet, now the Arachnos one that's another story......

    [/ QUOTE ]

True, but I've seen two costumes now with the Arachnos Wolf Spider helmet that looked awesome.

They're hard helmets to work with, but if you can get the look right, they are, to repeat, awesome.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I take it they were Arachnos themed characters? it'd be interesting to see if you can make them work without it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, Arachnos themed. I can imagine people making it work without the character being tied to Arachnos, but that would be a challenge.

  19. Awesomely enough, I already had a character meeting the specifications. Here he is:

    Blaze Diffusion
    Back
    Close-Up

    Bio:

Blaze Fusion was a normal teenager living in the neighborhood of Woodvale, until the Devouring Earth attacked. The creatures' invasion was swift, and, for many residents, deadly.

Blaze was seperated from his family when a group of vine-like beings burst through a wall inbetween them, and where met by a pair of super-heroes. More creatures came to aid their bretheren, and so did the heroes. Casualities on both sides sky-rocketed. The battle quickly grew into the largest skirmish of the invasion, and Blaze ran for the nearest shelter. Dodging past guards busy fighting overgrown mushrooms, Blaze hid in the most well defended building in Woodvale - the Crey facilities.

He found refuge in a small lab, and waited for what seemed forever for the fighting to stop. It didn't. He noticed a suit of armor hanging on the wall. Hearing the combat growing closer, he decided to don the suit, hoping it could somehow save him.

The creatures bashed down the door, and Blaze began frantically barking commands and pushing buttons. Fire unexpectedly wipped out from his large gloves, and his armor glowed with radiation. The Vines where charred, and Blaze, filled with courage, escape from the building.

After escaping into the refuge of Founder's Falls, he searched desperately for his family. Fearing they where dead, he remembered those who fought their hardest to save him and his family, and others like him. The heroes of Paragon City.

A quick change of his last name, a spray-painting of his armor, and a short registration with the Paragon government, and Blaze Diffusion walked out onto the streets as a new hero, determined to destroy evil and chaos wherever he sighted them, and protect the innocents.

I think "Lighthouse & Friends" (Good name, huh?) are doing a fine job.

Granted, I've disagreed twice on the Mods choice of thread deletion, although, side from that, there's not one mistake I've seen them make (concerning moderation).

All the closed threads have been a load of nuts and bolts.

It only takes one exception to disprove all, yes?

Miss_Kitty's followup "the tails are clipping" thread. The first thread got out of hand, got locked, Kitty started a second one, it did not get out of hand...it got locked.

Creating new threads when the original gets locked is against forum rules. Sorry.
