Except he follows it up with this phrase "Sometimes you should not make decisions about what you think you might out of them, just about whether its worth doing something for its own sake." which explains his point quite well and helps everyone understand his point. Therefore, his analogy works fine.

    No, it doesn't.

Simply put, spending several hours to collect the 200 presents required for Toy Collector wasn't worth it without some sort of tangible reward. We would have put in the effort if we had known there was some sort of reward. But spending an excessive amount of our already free time for something that appeared to be just another badge was not worth it to a lot of us.

There was no risk to anyone over level 10. It was just a grind. It strikes me as very arbitrary. Pretend for a moment that on President's Day, a toon earned a gladiator if she had the letter X in her name on New Years Day? If you had known about this, you would have been able to make the INFORMED CHOICE (TM) to have at least one toon with that letter X. But by the time the gladiator rolls around, it's far too late to do anything about it.

Well, Seeing as CoV LAUNCHED on Halloween this year, That in itself was a big enough Event to take care of from the Devs point of view. I'm willing to Wager this Holiday season (Barring any MAJOR Launches of a New Game or Issue) we will all be able to gather the badges we all so richly Desire

    [/ QUOTE ]

Cool! Like how the people who missed the Winter Lords in 04 were able to get the winter lord badges this year!
  3. [ QUOTE ]

Um, ok. So, how many Gladiator Matches take place on a given day?

    Right.

So, again, what is the real complaint here? Is it a matter of completeness?

I'd lay good odds that you will have the chance to get the Toy Collector next holiday season.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um, ok. Kind of like those who missed the Halloween 04 event had the chance to get the badges again in 05?

    Right.

You have to admit, as far as Uninformed Decisions (TM) go, this is pretty minor ...

I disagree. Powers, slotting, even your name can be changed under the right circumstances. This ship has sailed.

Heh, I find it funny how people go from "Statesman knows too little about his own game!" to "Statesman knows too much about his own game!"

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can't speak for other people, but I don't think it's contradictory to say that "Statesman understands the math underlying the game better than the player base" and "Statesman doesn't understand the psychology of the player base.", or to put it your way, "Statesman knows too much about his own game!" and "Statesman knows too little about his own game!"

I just played a Tanker with the following group (actually, at the request of a PM)...

    [/ QUOTE ]

This has come up in other threads, but I think the flaw in your tests is that you're not representive of the typical player. You understand the math behind the game far better than any of us could hope to and that gives you quite an edge. These posts come across like Evil Knievel saying "I don't see why you people can't jump your motorcycles across the Grand Canyon too. I'm managing it just fine."

With Enhancement Diversification comes a benefit for ALL City of Heroes powers.

Every power, across the board, is getting a 13.33% reduction in its Endurance cost.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Meh.
  8. Well, how about making it so that the confuse icon is delayed by a couple seconds, rather than not displayed at all? I think that would be a fair compromise.

    [ QUOTE ]
In fact, if you were confused, you WOULDN'T know it! A good analogy is that if you're dreaming, or hallucinating on drugs, you don't know it. Sure, you'll realize after you wake up or sober up that you were hallucinating and, in fact, that penguins can't talk. But during the hallucination you honestly don't realize anything is wrong. So, realistically, confusion would work the same way. You wouldn't realize your perception of reality is screwed up until after you start blasting your teammates.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well said, Diddug. I'm only sorry you beat me to the punch, though I think you made the point better than I would have.
