  1. [ QUOTE ]
1: Do you think characters talking about mundane things like their daily lives is "light" or not "immersive"?

2: What do your characters talk about when they're not in a mission or otherwise trying to help people?

3: What do your characters do in their "off time"? Do you actually play that sort of thing out?

4: Do your characters become emotionally involved in any way with other characters? We've had character fall in love, get married, lose their faith in humanity, be arrested, even die.

I'm going to jump in on this one, and probably shouldn't as it conflicts with the GG crowd, however it explains why I've never really got stuck in there.

The points you raised are the reason I don't tend to get on with a lot of MMOG roleplayers - the subject matter is mundane. I'm playing a character who has super-powers, lives in a place where crime is everywhere, where excitement is just around the corner, where you have 3 dimensions to run, jump and prowl around and yet you choose to do the majority of organised, group roleplay standing around talking about precious little.

This medium is not limited in the ways IRC are, or limited in the ways P&P roleplay is - you have a full environment to play with! Use your imagination and roleplay contacts to do something action oriented - it doesn't have to be violent, but the "sitting around talking about the mundane" style of roleplay doesn't do it for me one jot.

What does Doctor Ego do when he's not being (anti)heroic? He sleeps (logs off), researches his next quarry (logs off), spends time assisting the authorities (logs off) and so on. When I am inhabiting the good Doctor he is all action all the time. He gets plenty of time to sit around doing nothing when I'm not around.

Admittedly I have only attended a dozen or so GG evenings, however on every occasion nothing happened.

Given the choice between standing around waiting for my turn to talk or jumping up and down in the fountain in from of Atlas for 20 minutes I'd choose the later as it would be more fun - and far less dry (the pun is deliberate).

Don't get me wrong, everyone is free to roleplay in their own fashion and what works for the majority is absolutely fine by me, but talking is less preferable. After all, you wouldn't do a P&P D&D campaign which resolved solely around sitting in a tavern griping about the price of mead... or would you?

Not trying to say anyone is wrong or that I am right per se, however personally I find the GG style of MMOG roleplay extraordinarily dull.
  2. Forming a brand new villainous organisation with no ties to any supergroups (*spits*) under the banner of Public Enemy.

This organisation is founded on the principle of expertise taking control - if you're a budding base-builder you'll get the opportunity to assist, if you're a promotions genius you will be able to shine, if you're creative you'll have a place to flex your muscles.

Shared responsibility is the key. No organisation can succeed in world domination without playing to its strengths.

What we're looking for are mature, well humoured folk with a mean streak. We're after natural leaders, artists, thugs, writers, miscreants and anyone who wants to make a name for themselves.

In this first instance contact Sinisister or Chimeral ingame for a tryout - yes, a tryout. We won't accept txting, cussing, lowbrow buffoons. We will accept verbose, cunning, evil, weasely, smart-alec glory hunters.

Are you wanted enough to join Public Enemy?
  3. For those of you who remember me "hello again", for those I've never met "hello".

With that out of the way, let's get down to business.

Back in the dawn of City of Heroes in the UK I was a part of the Supergroup Team Deviant - an organisation catering to mature players of anti-heroes. It was a success, but unfortunately I had to leave the game for a while just as the group was building up momentum. Upon my return, the former members had all taken flight for pastures new (can't say I blame them) in order to find "active" groups.

My question is this - is there any interest from anyone with alts or otherwise who would be interested in joining Team Deviant? And what level of activity would define an "active" group?

My proposal is to set aside a single night in the week for Deviant group work, leaving members free to pursue other interests during the rest of the week. It was always intended to be a pseudo-roleplay organisation, where RP is encouraged rather than mandatory, and the roleplay which took place did not revolve around "kitchen sink" style dramas. The best roleplay is action based, at least in the opinion of this deviant.

Full details of the group can be found, in stripped down form, on the Deviant site (see signature for link), which I've just started redecorating.

    That's proposition #1.

Proposition #2 is a fall-back position from my perspective but might be more realistic. Anyone got a need for a casual, yet sociopathic mentalist in their group? Got plenty of activity? A high standard of behaviour/naming? A decent thought process behind the group with an actual inventive name?

If so, pitch me your group, I may just join.... if you want me.

    Thanks for listening.

  6. It's not a bad idea certainly but Galaxy has a few advantages -
    1 : it's really easy to find
    2 : it's zero risk
3 : there are usually a few new-blood players kicking around, and the gathered roleplay shenanigans sets them a positive impression of the game
    4 : I don't know where the bar is

  8. Name: Team Deviant
Motto: You Don't Want Our Kind Of Help
    Website: Team Deviant
Colours: Black and white. There is no grey area. You're either Deviant or you're fodder.
Contacts: Doctor Ego, more to be added
About us: Team Deviant is intended to be an entertaining, roleplay-oriented group of unpleasant/crazed/bizarre superheroes.

Our primary concern is fun. Secondary to that is maturity - not necessarily in years, but definitely in attitude.

If you'd like to join our crusade against banality you're more likely to identify with Rorschach (Watchmen), Chainsaw Vigilante (The Tick), Xenith (2000AD) or Tank Girl (Deadline) than you are Spiderman, Cyclops, Hulk or Supergirl. A twisted imagination scores points in this group.

If you're stuck for ideas, but still want to join I heartily recommend some research into general Deviancy. Our aim is not to shock or offend, but to amuse and inspire.

Get in touch via the forum here, at the Team Deviant site, or in game if you want in.
